"Mom I'm going to a friend's house!" Liam called to his mom as he was putting on his shoe. He woke up with his brain spinning remembering what had happened the day before and almost jumped out of bed in a rush.
"To Mason's house or a new friend's house?" His mother Jenna called from the kitchen.
"Uh, yeah. New friend. Sort of," Liam mumbled the last part. "I don't know how long I'll be out."
"Ok, just make sure to be home by 8 pm," His mother called out.
"Ok ok, fine," Liam said as he finished putting on his shoes and walked out of the house trying to find out which streets were familiar to get back at the mansion that apparently Hope Marshall lives in.
The process of vampires, werewolves, and witches existing in their world was still fresh in his mind. He didn't tell his mom or stepdad. No, he made a promise to Hope. Or she would have his heart in her hands. So, yeah, he is definitely not telling anyone without her permission.
If that didn't terrify him to his core he would've thought it'd be very cool that she held that much strength. But he was terrified, correction is terrified, and made an excuse for being late to his parents last night so they wouldn't suspect anything.
They had spent the rest of their time talking about werewolves. And he'd learn that they only shift on full moons like according to legends, they had incredible strength, their bite can kill a vampire, speaking of vampires, they didn't get around to it since he had to leave. But go ahead and blame him for wanting to know more about the supernatural world. Even though it sounds insane. Like extremely insane. Which he would still think so if he didn't see it with his own eyes with the gargoyle. He still has many questions about that, that still needed answers.
So he was going to get answers.
If he can find that mansion again!
"I'm sorry I'm sorry I'm sorry," Hope ranted on as she put the blood bag in the IV bag. "It's just that I didn't know what else to do and you can't take his memory and it would hurt a lot if I took them my way and then it'd leave a blank hole that no one wants and it'll drive them insane..." She took a deep breath. "Someone knows about us," She spoke more calmly even though this was an important subject. "It's just, first it was the dragon, now, it was a gargoyle. It's gone don't worry. But this kid, Liam Dunbar got caught up in it. And I had to explain it. I don't know if he's going to want to know more but, what if I screwed up by telling him. What if he's a Hunter. Shit! If he is I better get home immediately, bye mom." Hope said and rushed about of the hospital without a glance and wanted to go home.
She practically ran home only slowed down when she noticed there was a new car in the McCall driveway, she knew it wasn't Scott's or Melissa's because Scott drove his motorcycle and Melissa's was a different kind of car and color and Isaac would walk or ride with Scott or Melissa. There was vague arguing. But she couldn't worry about that now, her mind barely acknowledged it (or else she would've knocked to see what was happening) as she continued home but found Liam at her front gate standing there turning his head when he heard her footsteps approaching.
"What are you doing here?" Hope questioned grabbing her key. She noticed Liam didn't try to jump over the fence or lick the lock so, so far that was a plus.
"You say werewolves, witches, and vampires exist and that they could be anywhere and you expect me not to have questions?"
"I expected you to skip town in fear and make everyone think you were crazy by blabbing on the supernatural," Hope admitted.
"No! If someone said that to me I'd think they're crazy too! Plus you could kill me in a second!" Liam exclaimed.
"Right," Hope said and she opened the gate and Liam followed in which she frowned. "I didn't want you to come on the property."
"Well you opened the gate, and I followed," Liam said simply.
Hope cursed. "The spell is out. It must've broke when the other spell wore off yesterday," Hope mumbled but still loud enough for Liam to hear.
"There was a spell up?" Liam asked.
"Yes! And now I have to do it again!" Hope said and rushed to get to the front door with Liam not far behind. "What do you want?"
"I want to know everything. Anything. You have no idea how many questions I have." Liam said.
"Fine," Hope said. "Follow me." She said and led Liam into the mansion in which he was looking all around. "Rephrase, follow me after you have a tour," Hope said seeing the way that Liam was watching over the walls and the chandelier on the roof.
"Really?" Liam asked.
"Well if you're going to know everything might as well talk while you're distracted," Hope said and led the way to the living room first. Liam followed quickly behind and gazed in awe once more at the room's appearance.
"This room probably cost more than my parents rent," Liam said.
"It probably definitely does," Hope confirmed. "This was built during one of the golden ages of the world, or so my aunt tells me. They wanted to show off what they had but once they left, they left this house as one of their safe houses since this is a small town that no one would look, one of the reasons my mom picked this place."
"You said you were from Louisiana right?" Liam asked.
"Yeah, why?" Hope asked.
"And your family can go anywhere?"
"Basically."
"So why come here?" He asked that made Hope frown. She hadn't given it much thought. "My mom said it was away so that we are on the other side of the countryside within arm's length but still far enough away from the people who's enraging my family."
"But, I mean look at this room," Liam said waving his hands around the room. "I'm guessing you have a dozen more rooms like this so why not go to Paris?"
"You know what, those kinds of questions later," Hope said and they moved on from the living room to the dining hall. Hope wanted to ignore that question. Sure her family could've sent her Paris but...uh...but, what she said about the arms-length thing. They wanted to keep her safe and yet still reach her. And she had been on the run for seven years of her life with her mom and now they have a cloaking spell making it harder to find them, plus they are not on some quest to save their family to draw attention to themselves.
"Ok so I know about werewolves, everything one comes from a bloodline that was there when a witch cursed them and a witch was powerful enough to do that?" Liam asked.
"Yep."
"So any witch can curse people and that's it, their gene is passed down forever?"
"No," Hope said. "That was only because the members of the tribe kept feeding her their power as she was in the womb thinking they were going to create a savior for them but when she was born she still had a thirst for more power and was a threat to the village. But while they were going to kill her she chanted one last spell, with a ton of power and anger."
"So, a witch would have to be strong enough like her to create a curse like that?" Liam asked.
"Yeah, any more questions on witches?" Hope asked.
"Does a witch have unlimited power? Like nothing to fear? Are they as powerful as everyone say?" Liam asked Hope as they moved on to one of the many hallways. "Wow, this place is like a museum filled with gold."
"Witches do have their limits. Even me. Every time a witch pushes into their magic it pushes back making them weak. But my aunt Freya, a witch, has been alive along as my dad because of a sleeping spell that preserved her and made her wake up only for a year every century. And she picked up some things so she doesn't have much to worry about. As for me, I can pretty much do magic without consequence because of my werewolf healing, and I thought I could pretty much do anything, until Friday." Hope said and Liam made a face of confusion before Hope continued. "I did a spell to made sure my friends wouldn't be harm by the storm but in order to do that some of my magic had to be around them 24/7 so that resulted in me getting a nosebleed nothing major."
"It could be worse," Liam said. "Wait your friends? As in Scott, Stiles, Isaac, Malia, Lydia, and Allison?"
"Yeah, it was quite unexpected. They were so straightforward. Well Scott was, he introduced me to his friends the day after. All of them were so welcoming." Hope smiled.
"Huh," Liam said. "Do they know?"
"No!" Hope exclaimed her mood changing immediately. "Not! A chance! The only reason you know is because you've stumbled into the supernatural world and I've been generous enough not to take your memories! Do you have any idea what would happen if one, one that all it takes, one person slip and some hunters are knocking on our door to kill us!" Hope said her eyes glowing in blue that made Liam back up a bit before Hope calmed down as she faced the other way. "Sorry, Hope sighed. "Anger issues come with being a werewolf."
"No worries," Liam said.
"So vampire burns in the sun unless they have jewelry from a witch to protect them from the sun. Stakes to the heart works. They have about the same speed and strength as werewolves, and there is a plant called vervain that works like poison to them," Liam concluded.
"That's the summary," Hope said. "There, now you know most of the supernatural world. Now you can leave," Hope said shooing him.
"But wait! What about your family?"
"What of my family?" Hope asked, there was an edge to her voice.
"You said your dad and mom are hybrids, and that on your dad's side he has siblings and they were the first vampires. What about them?"
"They can compel, basically mind control, humans, and vampires who don't take vervain, they can turn people to a vampire so can other vampires, and can only be killed by a specific wood stake. There now you know, now go," Hope said with a wave of her hand and Liam was at her door.
"Oh come on!" Liam groaned.
"Don't make me take your memories," Hope threatened.
"How many people have you told about the supernatural?" Liam asked still frozen in place near the door.
"No one," Hope said not knowing where this was going. Whether someone knew about the supernatural was either was because they were supernatural, they accidentally witness the supernatural who were then compelled, or they were hunters who hunted them down.
"That explains why you just placed a bomb on me and tell me to leave."
"You're the one who wouldn't let IT GO!" Hope yelled where some furniture shifted a little and so did Liam.
"Then why don't you just TAKE MY MEMORIES IF YOU ARE SUCH A HARD TIME WITH ME KNOWING ABOUT YOUR WORLD!?" Liam yelled with almost an equal amount of force compared with Hope but she did notice at the time.
"BECAUSE!" Hope yelled back.
"BECAUSE WHAT?!"
"BECAUSE NO ONE IS THE SAME AFTER IT!" Hope finished off facing the other way. "There was this boy, about a year ago. His name was Landon. I thought we had something, something that was going somewhere. But once he found out about the supernatural world from his best friend that was a werewolf, he used his friends' power for their own benefit, the friend came to his senses but Landon kept trying to convince his friend that they can have it all. When it was clear we couldn't compel him for some reason, it was up to me to find a way to erase his memories, I came up with my own method, my own spell, and once it was done, he couldn't remember me. All supernatural things have been erased...including his personality. He acted more arrogant whenever I saw him less grateful, and the whole thing I saw him for fell apart. So I moved back with my family to New Orleans until now." Hope finished her speech as she finally let the spell over Liam fall so he could move again. "Just go."
"Hope-"
"I said GO!" Hope screamed loud enough cutting Liam off but also loud enough to push Liam out and closed the door in Liam's face.
Hope felt the power surging through her again and ran into the werewolf shed and had to chain herself with the magical chains she had stolen from the Salvatore Boarding School and locked herself up for the rest of the day.
