"Are you sure that's my cousin?" Malia asked pointing to the sleeping (unconscious) young Derek that was put in the trunk of the Jeep. "He looks our age. I thought you guys said he was old." It was the evening on Sunday and they are still in the Jeep driving to Beacon Hills.
"Older than us. But yeah," Stiles agreed. "We are approaching Beacon Hills."
"How are we going to explain this one to your dad?" Lydia asked.
"Um, we won't?" Stiles said/asked.
"Stiles," Allison warned.
"What? It's not like we need to. Scott, come on man! Back me up!" Stiles complained while he took a turn and were now officially back in Beacon Hills.
Instead of Scott speaking up they heard snoring and looked to see he was asleep with his head on the window.
"Isaac, wake him up.''
"Nah, I don't think I will." Isaac shrugged from where he was sitting.
"Fine, then you back me up!" Stiles complained.
'No, I don't think I will do that either, you're on your own mate." Isaac said and went back to ignoring the conversation.
"Great. That's just great," Stiles said. And soon enough it started raining making the roads less safe for the speed they're going but Stiles wasn't stopping.
Eventually, Scott awoke wide awake when Stiles took a turn a bit too fast, and eventually stopped in front of the animal clinic where he turned off the car and they all got off immediately putting Derek over their shoulders as they rushed to get into the animal clinic where they called Deaton ahead of time and he was waiting for them inside as he dropped all the things that he had on the table to lay Derek on it where he got his first glance at his face.
"Wow," He said.
"Wow? Wow as in, "I've seen this before and I know exactly what to do," kind of wow? 'Cause, that's the kind of wow we were hoping for." Stiles spoke.
"I think you might be overestimating my abilities," Deaton responded beginning to examine young Derek.
"He's cold." Lydia noticed when she touched him. "Really cold."
"Do you think this is permanent?" Scott asked.
"I'm not sure a medical diagnosis is even adequate," Deaton replied. "This is well beyond my experience."
"So what do we do with him?" Isaac asked coming closer to the table to get a better look at his former alpha.
"Until he wakes up? Probably not much." He replied honestly. "It might be best to leave him with me. He'll be safe here."
"You mean from Kate?" Allison asked bitterly, thought the bitterness wasn't for Deaton it was when she spat out the name 'Kate'.
"If she's alive and she is what you say she is, she won't be able to walk past that gate."
"Why would she want to do this to him?" Lydia asked puzzled.
"Knowing Kate, it's probably for a reason that won't be any good for anyone but her," Deaton said looking up at them.
"And bad for everyone else. Got it," Stiles answered.
"You guys should probably go home. He doesn't look to be in any danger. So maybe the rest of you should get some sleep? It is a school night...And you all need to start taking care of your own lives again."
"Someone should stay with you," Scott insisted.
"I'll stay. My grades are fine...Despite missing a few classes." Lydia said.
"Great! That's settled, Malia said walking out of the clinic into the rain before Allison pulled her back.
"I'm so not okay with this," Stiles said.
"For once I agree with Stiles," Allison said.
"Guys, go. I'll be fine,"
"See she said she'll be fine," Malia said but Allison was still holding her.
"At least this it's an improvement," Allison looking at Malia who just smiled.
"Text us if anything happens," Scott said to Lydia.
"Nope, still not okay with it. Not going anywhere. All right, just 'cause you guys stronger..." Stiles said as they all had to drag him out of the clinic.
The rain was still going on outside and made it harder for them to get into their homes. For Stiles it was easy, his dad was on a shift, Allison could sneak into her bedroom unnoticed, same for Malia. And for Scott and Isaac? They thought they'd be ok cause Melissa was working a night shift, so when they walked into the house turning on the living room lights they heard a gun's safety go off and thought there was an intruder and when they turned around to face whoever it was Scott froze which made Isaac confused.
"Dad?" Scott asked not believing his eyes that his dad, the one who had abandoned him and his mom years ago was standing in front of him lowering his gun with a bit of relief on his face that Scott just wanted to punch and Isaac also being a werewolf can smell the anger coming off of the true alpha. "What are you doing here?"
"You got so big," Was what Scott got instead of an answer.
"What are you doing here?" Scott asked growling a bit this time.
"I came to the house yesterday and your mother said you were out on a camping trip. And she made me sleep on the couch. Are you sure the guest room isn't available?"
"That's actually my room now," Isaac said speaking up.
"Well, this was my home,"
"Yeah, was," Scott said. "Come on Isaac we got school tomorrow," Scott said and both of them went upstairs passing Scott's father.
"Was that really your father?" Isaac asked.
"Yeah, I wish it wasn't," Scott said. "Goodnight Isaac," Scott said before closing his bedroom door.
Isaac figured it must've bothered Scott a lot and dropped it for now and didn't go knocking on his door but he was going to bring it up tomorrow eventually.
All right, well...
In the morning*
"His heart rate is alarmingly high," Deaton said checking his pulse
"He's a lot warmer now." Lydia noticed taking his other wrist.
"Lydia, I'm going to try something. I want you to keep holding his hand if that's okay." Deaton said and grabbed a knife and made a deep cut along his arm and it healed the second the blade left and once the blade was lifted it was completely healed.
"That looks like it healed really fast," Lydia said.
"Unusually fast." Deaton agreed.
"What does it mean?" Lydia asked.
Deaton sighed. "I'm not sure. Let's try something else. Grab me a five-milliliter syringe. Top drawer." Deaton said and they both moved to the other table to get the stuff they needed. They weren't aware of Derek's claws and how he was regaining consciousness.
"Derek..." Lydia said (in a bit of shock) trailing off. "Derek, are you all right? Derek... Derek, are you all right? Derek?" Lydia asked but Derek couldn't focus. He couldn't focus on what he was seeing or hearing and that made him panic showing his glowing eyes and canine fangs.
Derek accidentally attacked and left without a word.
"So why did you sneak into my room at two in the morning?" Allison asked as she and Malia were walking to school.
"I don't know. My sent is barely on my room anymore since I'm always around you guys, and I'd prefer to stay with girls than boys. They are better, and better looking?" Malia said.
"Wait, wait." Allison turned around smiling. "Ok stop me if I'm wrong or if I'm being offensive," Allison started. "OK but, do you prefer girls or boys or both romantically?"
"Is this suppose to be a hard question?" Malia asked.
"Just answer the question." Allison insisted.
"Fine! I guess girls. Boy are way too complicated and, girls just seem so much better." Malia shrugged.
"So, would you date one if you had the chance?" Allison asked.
"Yeah, I would," Malia said and out of nowhere, Allison hugged her.
"You just came out!" Allison squealed.
"What are you talking about? We are already out?" Malia said looking around.
"That doesn't matter," Allison letting go. "What matters is that I am so setting you up on dates."
"Ok?"
"Oh my god, we should totally go to the Sinema one day," Allison said.
"What's the Sinema?"
It might surprise you to know," Mr. Yukimura started as he began to write on the board. "That some of history's greatest leaders have had to endure some pretty great failures. One you'll recognize
from last night's reading" Mr. Yukimura got cut off by Hope rushing in the class.
"I'll just take my seat," Hope said taking her seat at the back of the class.
"No worries Miss Marshall." Mr. Yukimura said and continued on with the lesson. "They failed in business, had a nervous breakdown, was defeated for both houses of congress, and lost as vice president before he was finally elected as one of the greatest presidents that this country
has ever seen. Who was he?" He asked and some hands went up. "Malia." He called on. Malia's head shot up with a highlighter in her mouth as the class turned to look at her (including someone who was watching from the corner of their eye) waiting for her answer.
Then Scott's phone rang. "Scott phones off." The teacher said. "Malia? One of our greatest presidents. Gettysburg address?"
Another phone rang and this time it was Stiles'.
"Phones off. Everyone. Malia?"
Hope leaned in to whisper. "It's-" She got cut off by another phone ringing.
"I said phones off!"
"Uh, sir, that was yours." A student said.
"Oh. Um..." He said and checked his phone. "Scott, call Lydia," from Natalie Martin." He frowned ad excused Scott who took the phone call outside the classroom.
Hope couldn't help the werewolf hearing.
"Stole my moms' phone...come quick!" Was all that she was able to hear before Lydia hung up. Then Scott came back in the classroom and pulled Stiles and Isaac out of the classroom.
"What was that about?" Hope asked.
"I don't know," Allison said but something in her eyes made Hope thinks she might have an idea.
"What happened?" Scott asked.
"Derek attacked Deaton," Lydia said.
"He attacked you?" Isaac asked.
"I mean I know you guys don't exactly get along but-"
"I don't think he's just younger in body." Deaton cut off Stiles. "I think he's younger in his mind too. He didn't recognize either of us."
"And he looked like he was scared out of his mind," Lydia said.
"So if you're a teenage werewolf and you're scared, where do you go?" Stiles asked.
"A wolf goes back to its den. But Derek lives in a loft." Scott said.
"Not when he was a teenager."
"The hale house," Lydia concluded.
"He wouldn't remember the fire," Deaton added. "It wouldn't have happened yet."
"Hold on," Lydia said to the two boys who were about to march out. "Say you do manage to catch up to him? What are you going to say to him?
That his whole family is dead?"
"I guess I'm going to have to," Scott said.
"Oh...Good luck with that." Lydia said.
"She's probably right. Maybe you shouldn't. You know, at least until
we figure out how to get him back to normal." Stiles agreed.
"I can't lie to him," Scott said.
"Okay, I'll do it," Stiles replied.
"None of us can," Isaac said. "He can hear a heartbeat rising." He reminded them.
"Well, when we find him, we tell him the truth," Scott said.
"If he gets to the house first, you won't have to," Deaton warned.
"Excuse me, young man?" A deputy called to the young Derek who was sitting at the ground of his old property.
"You're calling him young man?" The other deputy called.
"Shut up, Haigh." The deputy said, "Sorry, but you can't be here."
"Hey, dumbass. You ever hear of no trespassing?" Haigh said.
"This is my house." Young Derek said looking at the torn-down wood.
"Nobody's been here for years, kid. Now get the hell out of here." Haigh said.
"Haigh..." The other deputy warned. "Maybe a slightly gentler touch?" Then he faced the boy. "Are you all right? We can help you if something's wrong."
"What happened to my house? Where's my family? Where's my mother?" Young Derek pressed on.
"All right, let's go. Now." Haigh said grabbing Derek's arm pulling him up when Derek flipped it and he had the deputy's arm in his hand.
"Hold on, just take it easy." The other deputy said but when Derek turned his head Haigh grabbed a taser and put it to Derek's back. "Haigh, would you...Don't... wait!" He put the taser on Derek's back a second time that made him pass out and carry him into the station.
"The other deputy thinks I'm an idiot for even asking," The deputy from before (the nicer one) came and kneeled in front of Derek who was tied down to a chair, "But I have a feeling if I take these cuffs off, you're going to be okay? And I think you'll
help us figure out what happened to your family so that we can get you out of here.
Am I right?" He asked and Derek nodded as the cuffs were removed.
"The other deputy's the idiot." Young Derek backed up.
"I can't argue with that." The deputy chuckled. "Parrish," The deputy in front of Derek looked back. "Get over here." Another deputy called and Parrish went over to the desk. "I ran this kid's prints eight times. This is all that comes up." The other deputy said and showed him the screen.
"Derek hale?" Parrish asked.
"Did you say hale?" The sheriff asked from inside his office.
The Sheriff looked back and forth between the computer screen and the young man that was sitting in front of him.
Just then Scott, Isaac, and Stiles rushed in the doorway standing there awkwardly looking at the Sheriff.
"I'll handle this." "Sheriff said sighing as he brought the three boys in his office closing the door behind them so they couldn't be heard while leaving confused deputies in the back.
"I want you to be honest with me. Absolutely and completely honest." Sheriff Stilinski said leaning on his desk. "Have you been time traveling?"
"Hang on, what?" Stiles asked.
"Because if time traveling is real, you know what? I'm done. I'm out." Sheriff Stilinski said as final. "You're going to be driving me to Eichen house!"
"We found him like that." Isaac shrugged.
"Where? Swimming in the fountain of youth?" Sheriff Stilinski asked carefully not to be yelling.
"No. We found him buried in a tomb of wolfsbane in an Aztec temple," Stiles said not shutting up. "In Mexico underneath a church in the middle of a town that was destroyed by an earthquake." Scott looked down while Isaac hit his shoulder.
"You told me you were camping!"
"Yeah, we were..." Stiles trailed off. "In Mexico."
The sheriff sighed again.
"Derek's been aged backwards. He can't remember anything." Scott said bringing them back on topic.
"We just need to talk to him." Stiles finished.
"Yeah, well," The Sheriff said sitting on his desk, "So far he's not talking to anybody."
"He'll talk to me." Scott insisted.
"Are you sure?" Isaac asked.
"Yeah, totally," He said walking out of the office.
"Why would I go anywhere with you?" Young Derek asked.
There was an accident. You lost some memory, but we can help you get it back." Scott said telling him carefully choosing his words as Stiles was sitting behind him when he noticed an envelope.
"How much memory?" Derek asked.
"A lot. But you can trust us." Scott said and looked down before lifting his head up showing his red eyes and Isaac showed his golden eyes.
"You're also werewolves." Young Derek said looking between the two as the glow faded. "Okay, who are you? And who is he? Who are you?" He asked Stiles who was checking the mail.
Stiles finally tore his eyes away from the envelopes on the desk to look at young Derek. "Oh, we're the guys keeping you out of jail."
"Let us help you," Scott said.
"No." Derek shook his head.
"Okay, seriously, you almost tore apart two cops back there," Isaac said.
"You need to listen to us," Stiles said. " And that starts with no fangs, no claws, no wolfman. You got that?"
"I'm fine as long as it's not on a full moon."
"You still have trouble with the full moon?" Scott asked a bit in shock with this discovery.
"I said I'm fine."
"All right, you coming with us or not?" Stiles asked.
"You want me to trust you? Where's my family?" Derek asked pressing on the matter of where his family was.
"There was a fire. And..." Scott trailed off. "They're not here anymore. They're fine. Just had to move out of beacon hills. And we're going to take you to them as soon as we figure out how to get your memories back."
Derek looked down. "Okay." He decided.
"I shouldn't have done that. I lied my ass off." Scott said once they were away from Derek.
"Hey, your ass is fine. You saved him a ton of unnecessary pain. We'll figure this out in a day or two, he goes back to being old Derek, everyone's happy." Stiles replied.
"Except for Derek, who's never happy," Isaac spoke up.
"It's just another person that we're lying to," Scott said looking down.
"This is about Hope, isn't it?" Stiles asked.
"Great, we're talking about feeling now, I'ma be over by the vending machine now," Isaac said leaving the two who went back to their conversation.
Scott sighed. "I've known her for three weeks, three weeks Stiles! And I already want to tell her everything."
"It's for her own good, besides isn't that how it was when you were with Allison? It'll pass, eventually."
"No, it's different." Scott insisted.
"How?" Stiles asked.
"It's just, with Allison I wanted to be directly with her no matter the consequences. With Hope, it's the consequences I'm afraid of." He admitted. "My point is that I was blinded the first time, now, I'm scared, dude. What if I accidentally spill and she thinks I'm a freak or what if I hurt her one day?"
"Dude, you are the last person ever, who's going to be hurting someone and if she sticks along long enough we'll tell her and she'll be totally cool with it. Just watch." Stiles reassured his best friend. "Now, what do we do about Derek?"
"You and Isaac take him to my house and don't let him out of your sight," Scott said walking to the door.
"And where are you going?" Stiles asked.
"I'm going to go talk to the guy we should have gone to before," Scott said before leaving.
"Uh...Yeah, I hate that guy." Stiles called after him.
Hope exited her last class of the day only to be faced by Liam Dunbar on her way out and walked the other way.
"Hope! Wait up," Liam called out and rushed to catch up with Hope not even turning her head. Hope!"
"What!?" Hope snapped facing him.
"Look, I'm sorry for my outburst-"
"Yeah well, you can't control it," Hope cut Liam off. "Why are you here?"
"To apologize. I figured that might've been the reasonable thing to do." Liam answered.
"Ok? What else?"
"What else what?" Liam asked.
"There's always something else," Hope said making her way to the school doors.
"There's nothing else!"
"Then why are you still following me!" Hope demanded as she walked out of the school with Liam still on her trail.
"Hope! Hey!" She heard and saw Kira coming her way. "Can I talk to you?"
But-"
"Sure," Hope quickly said and they both walked away from Liam. She escaped one problem but she's sure another one will come soon.
"So, um have I been bothering you? Well, I mean the other me?" Kira asks.
"She calls herself Léidiàn," Hope says. "And surprisingly she was much calmer than the first time I met her when she called out my friend in class."
"And I am so sorry for that!"
"People can't help it," Hope said and Kira was puzzled. "So, were you going to ask something, or was that it?"
"Yeah! Actually, I need a favor"
"Of course," Hope said under her breath.
"So, uh during another fight with my mom about, I forgot about what, um, me and Leidian accidentally said that our friend is coming over just to silence her and it worked which I didn't think would happen but, now they are expecting someone to come over for dinner and...," Kira trailed off on her rant.
"You want me?" Hope asked and it's her turn to be shocked while Kira nodded her face with panic. "Me, to go over to your house?" Hope asked slowly.
"Yes. Please?" Kira asked again.
"Eh, don't you have a couple of friends already?" Hope asked,
"Nope! Those are Leidian's gossip buddies."
"Me?
"Yes!"
"But..." Hope trailed off. "Why me?"
"Your the only one who got close to me, well the closest to my personality and not Leidian's, and she seemed to be ok with it so, can you please come over?" Kira pleaded.
"Uh, sure?"
"Great!" Kira exclaimed writing down an address. "Please just come before 8:00," Kira said handing the paper to Hope. "You have no idea how much this means to me!" She exclaimed one last time before heading to the school parking lot.
Hope decided to walk home just to have some time to her thoughts. At least this favor is the least dangerous thing she's been asked to do. People at the Salvatore school kept asking her since she was a Mikaelson witch, even one of the Saltzman twins asked for a favor in making a love potion, Lizzie Saltzman (Hope guess she couldn't do it herself since she could only absorb so much magic) and now she is with the wolf that was friends with Landon. And there was where her mind wanders to.
It's not the first love she's lost. There, of course, was Roman, the vampire who almost got her and her mom killed, luckily they did the binding spell wrong and Roman saw what he was doing was wrong but Hope couldn't forgive and forget. She forgave, but didn't forget, so things ended and she found Landon, he was freaking out about the supernatural world and took it into his own hands using his best friend. She had to wipe his memories which erased her and his personality. She tried, so hard to get him back to his old self, when that failed and her spell couldn't be erased, she tried to start over. Introduce herself to him again but he ignored her and went to go flirt with the person at the next table. Josie Saltzman. Everything was gone now between them. She knows she has time, that people fall in love many times, but she was trying not to anytime soon. So imagine her surprise when Scott McCall came into the picture. Hope tried not to think about it too much since her stop here at Beacon hills isn't going to last forever. Everything has it's end.
