"You've got to be kidding me!" Lydia exclaimed as they parked in a gas station. She turned to face Malia who was laying down in all three of the passenger seats in the back looking at the car roof. "You told Ally first and not me!?"
"Huh? What are we talking about?" Malia asked while she was getting into a sitting position.
"You came out to Ally first!" Lydia accused. "If I had known any sooner or the first second when you figured it out I would've had dates lining up for you or maybe even gotten you a girlfriend already!"
"Since when do you know that many people?" Allison asked.
"Since always," Lydia said looking at Allison. "You forget I know everything of everyone."
"Not everyone," Allison protested. "Two words, Kira, Hope."
"That's different, they are both closed off. But we're cracking Hope's shell. And Kira is occasionally closed off, when she's not she hits on half of the school, boys, and girls. So that's another to add to the list," Lydia said proudly.
"Kira? Is it that girl from history?" Malia perked up but they didn't notice cause they were wrapped up in their own conversation.
"Well I suggested that we go to Sinema one day," Allison said.
"Ohh, the club for all," Lydia said smiling. "Malia, don't worry about anything, we've got it covered you're in the right hands."
"This is what I get for liking girls?" Malia asked.
"Yes, it is. Two of your best friends helping you out," Allison said when her phone got a text message. "Scott's going to find Peter. And we're supposed to meet stiles and Isaac at Scott's house." Allison said as she was reading the text Stiles had sent her in a summary.
"What is with them coming up with the most ridiculous plans?" Lydia asked.
"But we've had worse."
"Like yesterday in Mexico?" Lydia asked.
"Yeah exactly," Malia said. "Though I liked the club. Maybe the Sinema isn't such a bad idea."
"Yeah, see. We come up with good ideas." Lydia said getting out of the car. "Pass me the-"
"Beacon hills credit union I know, I know," Allison said getting one of the many cards that Lydia.
"Hey, Lydia!" Malia called once she saw how much gas she had left. "It looks like you have a full tank!" There was no answer.
"Lydia?" Allison called out. There was no response so they both got out of the car to go check up on her.
"Lydia? Are you okay? Lydia?" Allison asked walking up to her.
"Don't look," Lydia said but it was too late and they looked towards where Lydia was looking at and saw what was in front of them.
There was the bathroom door ripped open, and inside was blood spilling everywhere with his limbs and guts all over the place as well.
"We're going to wait here for Scott," Stiles said entering the McCall house. All while Hope's feet were still taking her somewhere while her mind was distracted. "We're going to sit quietly. We're not going to call or talk to anyone."
"Do I talk to you two?" He asked.
"No." No Isaac replied quickly.
"Good."
"Fine," Stiles said.
"Who's going to talk to her?" Derek asked.
"Who's her?" Isaac asked before there was a knock on the door.
"I said no wolf powers!" Stiles exclaimed as he went to open the door that revealed Hope standing at the other side. "Hope, what are you doing here?"
"Uh, hi I'm looking for Scott," Hope said after a second, and Stiles opened the door wider for her to come in.
"He's not here," Isaac said from the living room couch.
"But we're waiting for him." Young Derek said surprising Hope. "Hi we haven't met but I'm D-"
"Miguel." Stiles interrupted quickly stopping Derek and patted his hands on his shoulders to make him stop his sentence. "Eh, My cousin. Miguel. From Mexico. So...yeah..."
Hope admits she found that suspicious in how Stiles interrupted so she couldn't bite her tongue back.
"Tú sabes español entonces?" Hope asked. She knows English, Latin, French and she picked up Spanish since she was bored and it was similar enough to Latin.
"Oh my God." Stiles cursed.
"Sí yo sé español, no soy nativo de Mexico pero me interesa la lengua." Young Derek replied.
"When were you going to tell us you spoke Spanish?" Stiles asked Hope.
"If the topic came up," Hope said looking at her watch. "Whey did I even come here." She muttered which Isaac and Derek caught. "I have to go, sorry for bothering," Hope said and left out the door.
"That was a short visit," Isaac said.
"Who was she?" Young Derek asked.
"She is Hope Marshall. You don't know her so don't worry about it." Stiles said.
"Marshall..." Derek repeated. "That sounds familiar."
"I don't see how because she and her mom moved her just a couple of weeks ago before school. Though her mom seems more like her sister." Isaac said.
"That's off-topic, and you no more talking to anyone," Stiles said to Derek and Isaac scratched his neck.
"That might be a problem," Isaac said.
"Why?"
"Scott's dad is here."
"What?! Scott's dad is here?! Since when!" Stiles asked.
"Since about two days ago to my knowledge," Isaac said. Suddenly they heard keys jiggling from outside.
"Ok, we're taking a trip to Scott's room," Stiles said pushing Derek up the stairs.
"But I'm hungry," Young Derek complained.
"Yeah, no you're not," Isaac said as he helped push Derek into Scott's room shutting the door as the front door opened.
"Scott! Are you here?" They heard.
"Holy shit! That is Scott's dad!" Stiles whispered yelled.
"Why is that a bad thing?" Derek asked.
"Because we hate him."
"I see my daughter isn't here," Peter said from the couch he was sitting on while reading a book, making Scott turn his head to face him. "Yet."
"What do you know about people being turned by a scratch?" Scott asked.
"Straight to the point I see." Peter exhaled getting up from his spot. "Did you scratch someone, Scott? Don't worry about it, the claws have to go pretty deep."
"But it's possible. Like if you clawed out someone's throat?"
"Well, yeah, it's possible. It's also beyond rare. We're talking one in a...million." Peter said realization setting in his anger flashing across his face.
"Can't someone in this town stay dead?!" Peter said turning his back to them.
"I think they were hoping you would," Malia said as she and Allison, and Lydia entered the loft.
"Do you have any idea why Kate would turn Derek into a teenager again?" Scott asked.
"What color were his eyes?" Peter asked calmer now.
"Blue," Scott answered.
"After Paige," Peter said. "Which could mean around the time he first met Kate."
"Derek and Kate knew each other?" Allison asked.
"Biblically," Peter said turning to face half of the McCall Pack. "That's right, Scott. You weren't the first wolf to climb into a hunter's bed."
"Uh! Gross," Malia gagged.
"Okay, Derek went to the site of the house thinking it was still there, right?" Lydia reminded.
"Yeah. But he doesn't remember the fire." Scott said.
"But if he doesn't remember the fire, then he doesn't remember that it was Kate that set it," Allison said.
"So what does that mean?" Malia asked.
"Kate didn't just take him back to being a teenager," Peter said. "She took him back to the age where he still knew her. When he still trusted her."
"When can I talk to Scott?" Derek asked.
"When he gets here, which will take a while," Isaac said. Young Derek flashed his blue eyes in which Isaac flashed his golden eyes.
"Hey! Hey, no fighting here," Stiles said coming between them and both of their eyes glowed down back to their normal colors.
"This is taking too long," Derek said.
"Yeah I agree, so wait here while I talk to Scott. You," Stiles pointed at Isaac. "Keep an eye on him."
"Why don't I call Scott and you watch him," Isaac said and took the phone away from Stiles unaware Derek was glancing at the open window. Isaac then left for the hallway making Stiles sigh and turn back to Derek to find him missing.
"Crap!" Stiles cursed. "How does he always disappear?!"
Derek jumped into the sidewalk from the bushes and tried to find the Alpha Scott to make him explain what happened to him when someone was beginning to follow him after a few minutes. He turned around and saw no one there but swore he heard the clicking of heel and turned back around to find someone standing in from of him.
"Kate?"
"Hey, handsome." Kate Argent replied. "Been a long time." She giggled. "Longer than you think."
"How could you let him out of your sight?!" Isaac demanded.
"You're the one who left a human guarding a werewolf!" Stiles yelled back.
"What's going on?" Scott asked coming to the room.
"Ah! Scott! Uh, how'd you get past your dad?" Stiles asked scratching his forehead.
"I dodged him," Scott said with ease. "What happened?"
"Well uh funny story," Stiles said chuckling nervously. "Uh, we don't know."
"What?"
"Derek escaped." Isaac shorten.
"Maybe it was Kate," Scott said and they gave him confused looks. "I'll explain later but I guess we're lucky Peter and Malia are out there looking for her," Scott said.
"You mean the werewolf serial killer and the werecoyote who will kill anything?"
Realization set into all of their faces and they were scrambling to get out of the bedroom and the house all at the same time and met with the girls in the front.
"Hey, are you ok? You look disturbed." Stiles noticed and asked Lydia.
"Yeah, I'm totally fine, except for the part for when we saw a body teared limb from limb in a gas station bathroom. But other than that we are all fine."
"What?! Where?"
"We already called Stilinski but I took some photos," Allison said and showed her phone to them.
"Ugh, that is not pretty," Stiles said.
"Why would she want to kill a gas station attendant?" Isaac asked.
"I don't think she could help it. This was done in a frenzy. It's not a murder. It's a symptom." Scott said.
"Of what?" Lydia asked.
"She can't control the shift." Isaac realized. "Derek said he had the same issue on the full moon. That he was still learning."
"Kate's still learning?" Allison asked.
"She wants to learn," Isaac said.
"So she wants Derek to teach her?"
"No. I think she wants something from him." Scott said.
"Did you catch a scent?" Scott asked when they finally found Malia again.
"It's the same one," Malia said looking back. "The same one as Mexico."
"What is she talking about?" Peter asked.
"One of them came after us in the church ruins," Scott said.
"And one on the road," Malia added.
"They couldn't have followed us here," Allison said with her bow slung over her shoulders.
"But they could've been brought, by Kate," Scott said
They heard a growling noise that was from the sent Malia had picked up on making them all look back.
"Oh, I've heard that sound before." Peter groaned. "Did it have an animal skull? A human wearing a skull over its face?"
"I think so."
"What are they?"
There was that growling noise again but it sounded louder and closer.
"Berserkers."
One appeared behind them in an armor of bones.
Malia was growling back ready to pounce when Peter grabbed her arm pulling her back.
"Are you crazy?" He asked.
"There's just one of them," Malia said struggling against his grip.
"And that means we have a chance," Peter said.
"To beat him?" Malia asked.
"To survive," he said letting go of Malia's arm and started running away while the rest had time to process it before running away too. They ran across the school before coming across another one in front of them.
"Guys, it's both of them. They're both here." Malia said with panic in her voice.
"Where the hell's Peter?" Isaac demanded.
"I don't know. He just took off." Malia said.
"This is it?" Kate asked taking it into her hands. "You're sure?"
"Yeah." Derek nodded.
"It doesn't look like much."
"That's 'cause it isn't," Peter said revealing himself in the light that was from the moon on the steps into the vault. "Quite the elaborate scheme you have here, Kate. Two countries, Aztec temples, Derek returned to a teenager. One that trusted you. One that loved you. All this complication just to gain access to our vault. Just to get your hands on that little piece of junk." Peter said making young Derek frown. "Turn it over. Go ahead. There's a scrape on the back where it used to say "made in China.""
"You're lying," Kate said.
"I admit I have a tendency to exaggerate things," Peter admitted. "But in this case, the truth is so much more fun." Kate's face was with anger. "Oh, I'm sorry, sweetheart, that little pendant is just a physical object to focus on. It's training wheels. Talia used it to teach Laura. I tried to use it to teach Derek."
They all heard a roar coming from outside the vault. Coming from Scott who was trying to attack the Berserkers with his fangs, claws, and red alpha eyes show as the rest of the pack got ready to attack but the two berserkers were already beating them up.
"Is this real? Tell me if this is real." Kate urged Derek bringing her face to his.
"Didn't you hear that? That was Scott. I just heard Scott..." Derek countered worried about the alpha.
"Tell me!" Kate yelled which did nothing to calm Derek.
"I don't know. And I don't care!" Derek yelled as he rushed past a crossing armed Peter and made his way to ground level.
"I can't find a weak spot!" Allison yelled with her bow ready aiming it at the Berserkers.
"Just shoot!" Malia yelled trying to get her head from being smashed into the school pillars again. Allison let go of an arrow that brought its attention to her in which when Isaac jumped in front of her, protecting her.
"Here," Lydia said handing his metal baseball bat to him. "Thought you might need this."
Stiles took it from her and tried to go help Scott as Allison was trying to find their weak spot. The obvious one was their open stomach but she couldn't get a clear shot every time she fired, all while Isaac was still protecting her by drawing the berserkers away from her to focus it on him. And luckily Derek came and took one from the while Scott attacked its back. When it punched Derek in the face knocking him down, Derek got back up with his adult face returning.
"Derek gave up on it back when he learned another way to control the shift. When I taught him. I taught him to use emotion. To use anger. And to focus on it. To feel every ounce of rage and hatred that he could summon. It was the anger that taught him control. So you want to learn to control it? You want to get angry, Kate?" Peter asked. "Let's get angry!" Peter yelled showing his claws and fangs while Kate showed her and they both roared before a smoke bomb with a bit of wolfbane was thrown down in the middle of them making it hard for them to focus and see while Kate barely managed to escape bringing her berserkers with her as they stopped fighting the McCall pack and turned back. Footsteps were all that Peter heard and saw coming to take what was in the Hale safe and leaving. "Wait! Wait!" Peter tried to call out and crawl but he was too weak.
"Derek?" Scott asked and he turned to face them with his adult face but instead of showing them his blue werewolf eyes, he showed them golden eyes.
They wanted to comment on that as they were all in shock on how that was possible but they made their way to the Hale vault where Peter was sitting in front of mumbling to himself before they came in and he spoke loud enough for them to hear.
"It was never...Never about the triskelion. They took it, they took it while I was blinded." He said to them.
"Took what?"
"Bonds. Bearer bonds and they took them all." Peter said standing up facing the pack.
"Bearer bonds? Hold on. Are you saying you got robbed?" Stiles asked but couldn't help the little smile that found its way to his face.
"This was a heist. Somebody planned this." Peter said.
"How much did they take?" Lydia asked.
"117..."
"Thousand?"
"Million."
"Hope!" Kira perked up as she opened the door to see Hope Marshall standing there awkwardly. "Thank god! You're 30 minutes early. Oh! Come in." Kira said opening the door wider for Hope to come through.
"Thanks," Hope mumbled.
"Uh you can wait in my room just down the hall the last door," Kira said pointing to it. "I'll go tell my parents that our guest is here." She said and left for what Hope assumed was the kitchen.
She made her way to Kira's room that was a nice shade of blue and a bed in the middle of the room with the head against the wall and a white puffy blanket covering it and a desk on its side with books piling up and on the other side of the bed was another desk with a mirror and a light. On the other side of the room was her tv and closet and a door to her shower. What surprised Hope though, was two katanas above the bed.
"Ok, I'm back," Kira said opening the door to her bedroom. "Take a seat." She said and sat on her bed patting a spot next to her and Hope sat down. "I just want to say thank you, this was the only way to make my mom get off my back. She is always complaining about how I don't fit in."
"You have trouble fitting in?" Hope asked puzzled.
"It's kind of hard fitting in when you have," Kira stopped talking and closed her eyes before they snapped opened with glowing orange-red. "Don't mind Kira," Leidian said. "She's just jealous she doesn't have the confidence." She said before her eye closed again and revealed her normal eye color. "But I do have more control!" Kira exclaimed before blowing the hair out of her face and looked to see a chuckling Hope who was barely restraining her laughter. "What?" Kira asked panicking. "Did I freak you out?"
"If I'm laughing it's not because I'm freaked out," Hope assured as she managed to stop chuckling but not the smile. "It's just, you're so calm with her.
"Except when she's flirting with everyone I don't like, and making mean comments."
"It could be worse," Hope said.
"How?" Kira asked.
Hope looked at her seriously he smile faded, before answering. "Rumors." She said looking down. "There was a lot about at my old schools."
"About you?" She asked looking worried at Hope whose' eyes were somewhere else.
"Yeah, there was some about other people, but mostly about me," Hope admitted. Mostly about her and her family saying that they were all on a murder spree every time a dead body popped up at Mystic falls even if it was from a natural cause.
"Why?" Kira asked. "You are almost perfect," Kira said Hope chuckled at that. "It's true, if you were my type, no offense, I'd totally date you."
"Well. I'm not perfect. Not even close. My family is...mysterious you could say. And that opens up questions that can't exactly be answered since they don't know about us."
"I'm sorry Hope," Kira said putting her hand on Hope's shoulder.
"It's over now, I'm here. So mind telling me what the katanas are used for?" Hope asked switching the depressing topic to the swords above the bed.
"Oh! Those, I hope those didn't freak you out." She said getting on top of her bed to bring one down carefully. "When my mom isn't complaining with me she likes to teach me how to used these." She said gripping it. "Don't worry I know what I'm doing. Mostly." She said and started spinning it back and forth guiding it like the wind, before stopping.
"That's cool," Hope said. "Can I hold it?"
"Yeah! Of course," Kira said handing it over. "Just be careful."
"Of course," Hope said gripping both of the handles with both hands in a fighting position and tried to copy Kira's movements from earlier.
"Almost, your hands need to be higher and your stands need to be lower," Kira said bringing her knees lower and her arms higher. There was a knock at the door and Kira quickly put the katana back just as her dad opened the door.
"Dinner is ready honey," He said and Hope just nodded at Mr. Yukimura as he left.
"Come on Hope," Kira waved and they both exited the bedroom and made their way to the dining room.
"I hope you don't mind the food we've prepared." Kira's mom said bringing plates to the table.
"Ohh, sushi," Hope said with a delighted face.
"You've tried it before?" Kira's mom asked in shock.
"Where I come from we are surrounded by multiple cultures, foods, and music, mostly from where it originates from but all is welcomed. 私の家族は彼らに対してとてもオープンで、彼らも私に教えてくれた多くの言語を知っています." Hope switched language surprising everyone there with what she can do.
"Well Kira," Her mom said. "I like her."
Hope heard her exhale in relief from behind her as they all took a seat at the table.
"So where is this place you live, where is it?" Kira's mom asked.
"New Orleans, born and grew up there," Hope said grabbing the chopsticks and started putting the food on her plate.
"Sounds like a great place."
"It is, Ms. Yukimura," Hope said.
"You're a wonderful young girl, are you involved with Kira by any chance?" Ms. Yukimura asked.
Hope almost choked on her food midway before swallowing it. "I'm sorry what?" She asked as Kira almost choked on her water.
"No, mother, Hope is a friend," Kira said emphasizing the word friend to make it clear.
"Oh, shame." She said. "What other talents do you have, Hope?"
"Is this an interrogation?" Hope whispered to Kira before returning her attention to her mom. "Uh, I play sports, boxing, and painting."
"I'm impressed. How did you make my daughter's acquaintance?"
"It was actually through-"
"The other one wasn't it. I am sorry if she had made an inconvenience or made a fool of herself, as usual."
"Uh, no she just...came out strong," Hope assured taking another piece of sushi.
"That's...reassuring," Ms. Yukimura said though she didn't sound sure. There was a distant roar coming from outside that no one seemed to notice so it must've been her wolf heard that picked up on it but she wasn't listening, so how was it that she heard it? There was another roar from the same distance a couple of minutes later that was smaller but held the same strength as the first. Where were these sounds coming from?
"Uh we'll just take dessert in my room," Kira said pulling Hope up from the table.
"Thanks for the food," Hope said before Kira pulled her away to the room.
"Couldn't I had at least finished my food?" Hope asked as Kira slammed the door.
"Dinner always finishes early," She said but when she looked back her eyes were orange-red. Hope admits that was a little strange since she's never really encountered people like Kira with this, but, it was some amusing even if she didn't understand it fully.
"Hi Leidian," Hope greets properly.
"Hello again, Hope Marshall," Leidian says. "I knew Kira made a right choice choosing you, from how you wooed dear old mom, she's not going to bothering us for at least a month. And god! That'll be nice."
"Good to know I could help?"
"Definitely, you need help with anything me and Kira are here," Leidian said.
"Don't think I'll be forgetting about that," Hope said. "It will be nice to have a favor for me for once."
"No need, just cash it in quick. I don't like being in someone else's favor for once either." Leidian said.
"It's getting late. I don't have a curfew but I prefer to be up early. Or try to. I'm sure you have Kira's memory so, you'd know why."
Leidian only nodded. "I'll walk you out, " She said and opened her bedroom door.
"Girls," Mr. Yukimura said. "I thought you guys wanted dessert."
"Nope, sorry dad, Hope has to go," Leidian said.
"Oh ok, well remember both of you have an assignment due in two days," He said.
"Got it, dad," Leidian sighed as if she was already tired of this conversation and she probably was.
"Ok, goodnight girls," He said and disappeared.
"See ya Hope," Leidian said.
"See you tomorrow at school," Hope said as she waved by and turned her back as the door closed. It was a good dinner that her mom had prepared. She was a little too stiff for Hope's liking but if that's her when she's calm, Hope doesn't want to see her mad even if she can take her easy.
The fastest way to her house (that was painfully on the other edge of town) was just in a straight line down the hundreds of blocks. On her way home was a scent in her nose that made her stop dead in her tracks. The next second, she's running. Not away, but towards it. The scent that she smelled...she wasn't looking for it like the roars at the beginning at dinner but they were hard to ignore. The point being was that she knew the smell. It had been all over the bayou back home where her mom felt the most at home.
Hope ran until she was at where the scent had led her.
Beacon Hills High School.
It was coming from on-campus. So she did what she had to do. She cast a spell that opened the main hallway doors and continued on her path. Sure she could've used one of the other entrances that were opened but they were on the other side of the school, she didn't have time for that. She reached her designation after a minute. It was on one of the stairs connecting the first floor to the second floor of one of the school's buildings. Hope froze in her place by what she saw. Claw marks on the lockers, two of the school's pillars had a piece of their side gone like someone had taken something the size and weight of a bowling ball and smashed it over and over until they got this result, there were holes in the lockers as well but they looked like someone was using them for archery practice. And the scent she was following was coming from this exact spot.
"Hoc reficere pulmentum," Hope chanted waving her hands across the mess she saw and pieces of the pillars and lockers, plus the cracks on the ground that were spread throughout the floor across about 2 yards, were getting fixed in 30 seconds.
She tried to make sense of what happened here. Anything logical. But the scent made it clear of one thing. Werewolves were here. The arrows holes in the lockers made another thing clear, a hunter was here too. If I had been more than one hunter then there would've been more holes. But Hope doesn't think they were fighting each other. (If they were a single hunter couldn't make this much damage and not feel the rage of the werewolves and survive) There were many scents here too, two smelled of wolves, one smelled familiar to wolves but not quite, one was your average human being, the other was clearly of the hunter who probably used wolfsbane as perfume or cologne that messed up Hope's sense of smell enough to not know who the scents belong too but not enough to damage her sense of smell.
The other three scents though... were different. They smelled like death. One was calming like it was nothing to fear like you should welcome it but powerful at the same time like a ticking time bomb. The other two...reminded of her family. They were caring and loving towards her but...they all had their bad moments, including herself. It essentially smelled like brutal death, an unpleasant way to go out. Hope has no idea what all these people were doing out here or what they were fighting or if they were fighting each other, but there was one other thing Hope has to be cautious about. The wolves...it's not a full moon. But how could she ignore it? She heard the howls, she is seeing the damage and is smelling the scent (even if it smells a bit off), but there was no way, unless...shit. What if...what if...she's got to get home. Now! The spell was done so she rushed out of there immediately. Hybrids. Hybrids were what first came to her mind. They were the only wolves who could shift when they wanted to. That or the Crescent wolves. Her pack. But they don't leave New Orleans after making a stand that they belong there. Hybrids, on the other hand, were a different case. Her father had created some. And she had created her own too, though they were killed. But what were the only other options were there to consider? It had to be hybrids. It didn't matter what they were fighting or what they were doing with all the other scents. The only questions on Hope's mind were, "Did they find me? How were they turned?"
