Okay, wow, it's been a while! Sorry about that! I got out of both my Marvel and MacGyver phases, so I didn't have any desire to write on this story. However, after just rewatching the Marvel movies in order (what with all the new shows coming out) as well as watching Stargate SG-1 for the first time (man, I'm loving that show so much), I finally have inspiration for this story again! Sorry it's so short, but I figured anything was better than nothing. Do I know where it's going yet? Nope! But hopefully it will get there!

MacGyver returned to the Phoenix Foundation the next day, having a clean bill of health and no serious injuries to worry about, though he still had a few cuts and bruises that made him wince as he walked. Steve followed him, wishing to hear how Pete had fared in his findings.

They entered Pete's office, only to find it crawling with government agents and Phoenix Foundation employees. Everyone seemed to be working busily, deeply preoccupied with what they were doing. MacGyver asked someone where Pete was, and they answered,

"Mr. Thornton has been taken to the hospital. He was paid a visit by James Barnes last night. He's not in a good way." Then, they turned back to continue their work, leaving a distressed MacGyver and concerned Steve to make their way to the hospital.

It didn't take them long to find Pete's hospital room. When they entered, they found Pete awake, and he smiled wanly at the two men.

"Pete," said MacGyver with a smile of his own. "Good to see you awake."

"I'm sorry about what's happened, Mr. Thornton," added Steve.

"So am I," Pete rasped, his humor intact despite his injuries. MacGyver ambled over beside his bed and flipped through a few pages of a manual there.

"So it was the same guy, then, the guy who kidnapped me?"

"Bucky," added Steve. Pete nodded, and said,

"Yeah, it was him. The first thing I felt was his metal arm, so I knew who it was immediately." MacGyver shook his head.

"Y'know, that guy just needs to learn when he's not welcome!"

"He's brainwashed," explained Steve. "He doesn't know what he's doing." Closing the manual, MacGyver turned and said,

"Yeah, okay, fine, but that still doesn't give him the right to beat people up." Then, he turned to his friend and asked, "You sure you're okay, Pete?" Pete waved him off weakly, saying,

"Yeah, yeah, just need to rest a few days." MacGyver nodded, pacified for the moment, and prepared to leave, but before they could Steve asked,

"Mr. Thornton, is there anything you learned from the Winter Soldier that might help us find him?" Pete started to shake his head, but then he paused. Slowly, he answered,

"Yeah, he said something about the KGB, and mentioned a name…" Clearly trying to remember, he stared at the wall behind them. They could almost see the gears turning in his brain.

"Something's burning, Pete," said MacGyver drily. "I think you're working your engine too hard." However, even as he said this, Pete's face lit up and he exclaimed,

"That's it! Burns! He said the name Burns!" MacGyver's wry smile evaporated as he raised his eyebrows and opened his mouth in surprise.

"Burns?" he repeated with a dramatic shake of his head. "You mean I really just helped you remember the name?" Even Steve caught a smile from MacGyver's reaction. Just then a nurse entered the room.

"That's enough excitement for right now. Your friend needs to rest." They both grew serious, and Steve said as they left,

"We'll find out who Burns is, and then we'll find Bucky, Mr. Thornton, you can be sure of that."

"Maybe 95 percent sure." MacGyver stuck his head back in from outside the room. When they both looked at him curiously, he explained with a shrug of his shoulders, "The guy seems like he knows how to hide."
