Hermione Granger graduated from Hogwarts after repeating her Seventh Year. Her last year at the magical school consisted of being at Harry Potter's side and helped him (along with her other best friend, Ron Weasley) during the Second War. Now that Hermione was satisfied she had fully completed her magical education, she wanted a break from the wizarding world. She knew she should have a job by now, and with her grades and intellect, she could get any job. Her eyes were set to work for one of the Ministry of Magic departments. Hermione even meant to go to an interview, but her owl arrived at her Muggle home's window and she paid her owl in treats.
The owl's claws released an envelope in her hand and Hermione opened the letter. For the first time in a long while, Hermione beamed and a genuine smile appeared on her face when she read who sent her the letter.
It was from her cousin, Bella Swan.
Dear, Hermione
I remember when you told me that letters were how you communicate over there in England. I find it a bit outdated, but there's something old-fashioned about it I like, too. You know I plan to be an author someday so I'm used to writing. I wish we did that over here, but we use so much of the technology that we have our cellphones for that. Didn't one of your friend's Dad love Muggle stuff? (Isn't that the correct term? Muggles for non-magical people like me?) I'm sure he'd love to fiddle around with a cellphone. And you use owls as the messengers which is pretty nifty, but could you imagine my neighbor's reaction if they saw Athena flying in and out of my bedroom window?
Hermione did chuckle to herself at the Muggle's reaction. They would think that'd be an odd sight for them.
Anyway, the reason why I'm writing to you is Edward proposed to me! We're going to get married soon and there's an invitation for you including a First Class plane ticket that Edward was generous enough to offer for you. He knows that we're pretty much like sisters.
It was true Hermione and Bella had a sisterly bond. They always played with each other whenever Hermione would visit Bella over the summers. The two girls would play with Bella's best friend, Jacob Black, and go to First Beach together.
Bella sometimes visited Hermione in England whenever she could with her father, Hermione's Uncle Charlie. Hermione's mother was one of Charlie's siblings.
Also, she couldn't believe that Edward Cullen proposed to Bella! She met him a few times and didn't know what to make of him; she thought there was something off about Edward, but she couldn't put her finger on it. He seemed to treat Bella well enough so there wasn't much that Hermione could complain about him.
There's even another First Class ticket if you want to bring a date. The last time you've written to me, you told me you're in a relationship with Ron Weasley. If you're still dating him, he can be your plus one. It would be nice to finally meet him in person.
Hermione frowned when Bella mentioned Ron. After the war was over, they dated, but it wasn't like what Hermione imagined.
They fought a lot being in a relationship. Ron kissed Hermione like when she saw him making out with Lavender Brown and was eating the poor girl's face. Hermione may not have a lot of experience with kissing, but she read books how authors described it and it was nothing like what Ron did. He had no ambition or drive to push himself further and made something out of himself other than slacking off with Harry like they always did at school. His excuse was that he risked his life for the war. Neither Ron nor Harry finished their seven years at Hogwarts which Hermione rebuked them for, but they became Aurors instead. At least Harry had dreams and goals and Ron followed right behind him.
Ron even broke up with Hermione because his life got too stressful being an Auror and then he changed his career to be George's co-worker at Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes to fill in since George's twin, Fred, died from the war. Hermione wanted Ron to be someone he could never have the ability to be and Ron wanted Hermione to be more laidback, but she knew she could never be changed either.
Maybe the wedding would help Hermione to have some fun. She thought taking Ron, her ex-boyfriend, along with wouldn't be such a good idea. But Hermione did have someone else in mind who she could bring.
I really hope you can make it to my wedding, Hermione. It'll mean the world to me if my favorite cousin showed up. I'll be very interested in who you bring as a date. ;)
P.S. I read your recent letter and I'm really glad you guys won the war against Voldemort. Give Aunt Clementine and Uncle Jed my love. Tell Harry and Ron I said hi. Looking forward to hearing from you again, Hermione! :)
Love, Bella
XOXOXO
Hermione finished reading Bella's letter and happily went downstairs to announce the good news to her parents. They lounged in the living room drinking hot tea and having finger sandwiches in the afternoon.
"You're just in time for tea, darling." Her father, Jedidiah, told her.
"I got a letter from Bella," Hermione announced and handed the wedding invitation to her mother. "And she gave me an invite to hers and Edward's wedding."
Hermione's mother read over the beautiful invitation.
"Bella's getting married? My niece Bella?" Her mother, Clementine, asked in disbelief.
"Yes," She grinned. "I even got a First Class plane ticket and I can bring a date if I want to. May I go?"
"Of course you can, dear. I have to write a letter to Bella and congratulate her," Her mother was happy for her niece. "And give her a gift."
"You know Bella doesn't like anything too gaudy, Mum. She's very simple."
"Who are you going to bring for a date? I know you and Ron didn't end well." Her father remembered.
"I know. I thought about having Harry as my date actually," Hermione answered thoughtfully then she added to avoid speculations. "But we'll just be going as friends."
"Harry is so lovely and sweet. I can't wait to see him again." Her mother complimented fondly.
"He's quite busy these days being an Auror, Mum, but hopefully Harry can take the time off for the wedding. From how he talks about it, he really needs a sabbatical."
"It does sound like a lot of work from how you've explained what Aurors do, love," Her father replied. "Why don't you go ask him?"
"I will. He's making dinner for Ron, Ginny, and I."
"You don't think that things between you and Ron would serve any sort of awkward or uncomfortable tension, do you?" Her mother asked with concern.
"Perhaps, Mother, but Ron and I are adults and we can handle a break up maturely," Hermione answered with confidence. She sat down next to her mother on the couch and drank her hot Earl Gray tea.
Hermione hoped they would, anyway.
