Klaus had lived over a thousand years. He had seen many feats of magic, seen (and bedded) plenty of powerful witches. And yet, all the wonders he had seen were mere child's play to the small witch known as Bonnie Bennett. The girl, because in every sense of the word that was what she was; a girl but also she was a powerhouse. She was the only one in years to bring him even close to the blink of death - actual death. Not the false sense of the dark, but the final beat of his heart and the breath that had died on his lips, only for it to restart. That night in the quarry had left him intrigued.
Every interaction had left him wanting to know more about the little witch.
He had dedicated his time to learning about her. Her strengths and weaknesses. They all revolved around the doppelganger and her ungrateful lap dogs.
He found it amusing that one of said lapdogs was currently cradling Bonnie close to him. Bonnie herself was burrowing into Stefan like he was a safety net, and the hybrid felt his chest tighten at the sight. He was jealous over something so small, and he wondered just why he was.
Perhaps it had to do with her power.
But he watched as Stefan began to pet at her head, whisper about how she was fine, but they needed to get back. Bonnie wasn't even listening to him. She was going on about someone named Graham.
"He should be here," she murmured, her voice almost hysteric. She pulled back and looked into Stefan's eyes. "Stefan, I need to find him."
"Bonnie, I'm sure Graham is fine," Stefan told her, though he was only saying it to quell her. The witch's eyes were shimmering a vivid green and her magic was thick in the air.
Bonnie shook her head and pulled away from him. This was wrong. It was all wrong.
She didn't want Stefan or even Klaus.
She wanted to get back home; she wanted to demand answers from her father. But that small part of her that was crying aloud; that small voice was crying for a man with a scruffy bread, a detached warmth in those brown eyes. She remembered how Graham had carried her home from the police car, wrapped in his jacket.
He had felt safe.
And right now, all she wanted to do was feel that safety again.
But she couldn't.
Graham was...
He was...
Her fingers curled into her hair. Her eyelids shut and with she let out a loud scream before slumping to the ground. Stefan once again caught her and this time, he didn't let go.
Klaus blinked at the sight, of the fearful Ripper cradling the most powerful witch of her age like she was a new born babe. It was like something out of a fairytale; how Bonnie looked peacefully asleep and her head tucked into his bicep, while Stefan turned and stared at the hybrid. Evergreen eyes were cold before he peered down at Bonnie and then back to the man he had once called a friend.
"I don't know what you did," Stefan started, though Klaus held up a hand.
"I did nothing," he said, defending himself. He pointed to the unconscious witch. "that was all the little witch's doing."
He turned towards the stairs and then paused and looked back at Stefan. "Come along then, she needs rest and I have questions for her. She'll get neither if you have her in that position."
Regina turned on her heel towards her ex-lover.
"What the hell was that?"
"You think I know?" Rudy shot back at her, hand pressed to his chest. He glared at the woman. "She's not just a witch from this realm, Regina. She's got your magic too."
"Oh trust me," snipped the Evil Queen. "I felt it."
Rumple said nothing as he looked around the house, but he could agree with the queen. That girl was powerful, and he had been wondering just how long it would take for her to preform a spell. But her being magical meant nothing if she couldn't wield said power.
Shelia had brought them here to help the girl. To take the magic within and help it wrong. Rumple had so problem with planting a few seeds of his own within the girl.
She was Cora's granddaughter after all. No doubt the woman knew of her, and probably had tried to contact her before her demise. If the small thrums of magic he felt were hers, it meant the woman had already chosen the witchling to be her successor.
A new Queen of Hearts, he thought. She would need an advisor.
Who better an advisor than the Dark One?
The goblin was calm on the outside, but inside? He could hear his own twisted laugh as he formulated his plan.
"I don't give a damn about her magic," the blond girl said. Everything about her reminded him of Emma; just as strong willed and brazen. She also took charge, as she was doing now. The girl, he believed her name was Caroline, had shot up fo her feet.
"All I care about is Bonnie," she continued, her face shifting. Fangs sprouted and she growled at the Queen and Rudy. "You two are going start talking about what the hell that was."
Quick as very, Regina fired off. "That was magic, little girl. A very powerful feat of it."
Caroline glowered at her. "I know that was," she growled at the woman.
Elena sat in silence, thinking of the feat Bonnie had done. It was right up there with her bringing Klaus close to death, if Elijah hadn't betrayed them. A smaller part of her remember when Bonnie faked her death and it brought pain to her chest.
She would never forget the lifeless green eyes or the blood running down Bonnie's face. Exhaling a shaky breath, the brunette shot to her feet and turned towards Damon.
"You head out and look for Stefan and Bonnie," she told him and then turned back to look at Caroline.
"And why should I do anything for Bonnie?" asked the vampire, annoyed that he was even being put in this position. But he did see a small way to get into Elena's good graces.
"Because Bonnie spared your life when she shouldn't have," Caroline said turning to him. Her corn blue eyes were sharp like glass, and she placed a hand on her hip. "If Elena hadn't begged her, you would even be here."
The adults looked between the two. What was she talking about.
Damon stepped towards the blonde, a menacing look in his eyes. "Watch what you say next, blondie. It could be your last."
"And I'll go with a smile on my face knowing Bonnie went and burned your to ashes like she should have," Caroline boasted with a smile.
"Bonnie what almost did what?" Rudy looked like he was about swallow his tongue at the very thought.
"I should have killed the little witch when I had the chance," Damon grumbled.
It was the wrong thing to say because for the second time, he had someone's hand plunged into his chest.
So that was what it felt like, he thought while gritting his teeth. His blue eyes looked into murderous brown ones that shimmered purple.
"Wrong words," Regina informed him with a sickening sweetness.
