Percy's journey through the Underworld felt different this time. Calmer. There was no rush to prevent a war between two ruling kingdoms, and certainly none of the fear that it would be a one-way trip. Percy took a deep breath as the cold air seeped into his bones. He wondered if his uncle Hades already knew that he was here if the god of dead could feel him as he made his through the tunnels.
The prince of the seas wondered how the god felt about him now. It had been a while since the two of the had spoken, even though the god of the dead was his favorite uncle, that didn't mean that he was the gods favorite nephew.
Almost as if in response to his thoughts, a shiver ran up his spine and the shadows around him reached out toward him. He didn't feel threatened by the shadows, in fact, he was oddly comforted by them. Percy let a small smile grace his lips as he took that as a good sign. His favorite uncle favored him, and that was enough to calm his nerves as he made his journey through the Underworld. But his destination was somewhere far removed from his Uncle's kingdom. Hecate's palace was near the cavern that slipped into Tartarus and overlooked the chasm. He had visited once before, back when he was working on repairing the relationships between the Olympian gods and their titan relatives. He never thought that he would have ended up as a diplomatic representative, but things never did end turn out the way he expected them to.
Still though, he was somewhat glad that it turned out the way that it did. Now there was a shaky peace between the two dynasties that Percy had been the architect of. Not Annabeth, not Athena, and certainly not Zeus. Perseus Jackson had brokered a peace between two warring houses and had managed to keep that peace going for years. That had been a surprise for everyone, but Percy relished in it and had used it to fuel his drive to improve upon that peace at every opportunity. Maybe that was why the Titans saw him as a king.
He had fought for his distant relatives' time and time again because some part of him had believed that they deserved it. And if there was one thing that Percy Jackson believed in, it was second chances.
So as Percy finally approached the palace of Hecate, he didn't feel any animosity emanating from the Titan goddess of magic inside.
"Hecate." He said underneath his breath in a quiet prayer. One that he knew would reach the Titanesses ears no matter how simple it might have been and watched as the door simply opened with a click.
He entered without hesitation.
"Hello Perseus,' He heard her voice call from deep withing the palace and he followed it as he heard the echoes bounce off the walls.
He found the woman laboring over a cauldron, her long black hair flying behind her as she grabbed bottles of unknown substances from the shelves that towered above the two of them.
"How have you been Perseus." She regarded him with a soft smile as she came to a stop in front of him. Her purple eyes shined with warmth as she placed her hands on his shoulder and placed a gentle kiss on both of his cheeks.
"I've been good cousin, how are you?" Percy wasn't sure if they were really cousins, but it was the title that they had decided to go on a long time ago after deciding that their family tree was far too complicated to be sure.
Percy saw something flash behind her eyes and her eyebrows scrunched together slightly, almost as if she was trying to hide something from outside eyes. But Percy had always been much too observant for his own good.
'What's wrong?" He asked and let the concern seep into his voice.
She stared at him for a second, before taking a deep sigh.
"Someone has been messing with forces of magic far greater than they can comprehend. The wellspring is being depleted, and those two idiots Ember and Umber are too incompetent to take care of the world that they begged to create. And that damned trickster Reynard has escaped confinement and I have yet to locate him, because apparently, apparently, someone seen fit to start praising him again. The last time this happened, Jack the Ripper roamed the streets and killed in his name!"
The goddess had started ranting, Percy could see the cauldron start to bubble up angrily behind her and he did his best to use his powers to stop it from bubbling over the sides.
"Hecate." Percy said softly and took her hands in his own. "Cousin, help me understand your frustration. I understand that things are happening that I have no knowledge of. B-But these things you speak of, these names, different worlds. I've never heard them before. I need all the knowledge if I'm to help set things right."
Hecate looks at him as if she was receiving news that she couldn't comprehend. The titan goddess blinks. Once, twice, three times.
"I-I thought they had told you." She pulls her hand away from Percy's and pinches the bridge of her nose. "Great Chaos above, you go through all of this trouble of repairing our broken family and they don't even give you the full roster of things we need to fix."
She starts pacing.
"Perseus, our family us filled with far more secrets than they care to acknowledge. And one, hidden so deep in the shadows is the existence of Ember, Umber and Fillory. Now Reynard is another problem all together so I will explain that later, but Ember and Umber are the twin gods that created Fillory, an entirely different world than ours. They were disgraced gods of Whimsy, and Minor gods of Magic. But before they were disgraced, they begged Zeus to create a world where they would be free to rule, and not knowing where this would lead, Zeus allowed it. Now without them know, I placed the source of magic for human onto their world, thinking that they would be too high on opium filled air to find. But apparently, they did, and now someone else has as well. Now this wouldn't be a problem, except the person who found it has been drinking from it. And what makes everything worse is that once the twin idiots were sent into exile, they made it so that no other immortal could enter Fillory. Now the two of them are in hiding, and everything is going, quite frankly, to shit."
Percy stood there for a moment, stunned to silence. He could see how frustrated his cousin was, and he took a deep breath.
"How can I help." He said simply, and the goddess smiled.
"This world continues to deal you shitty hands Cousin, and yet still, somehow, you manage to win the game, and com out kinder still." She says as he places a gentle hand on his cheek.
Percy chuckles and smiles tiredly.
"Guess the odds are just always in my favors that way."
"I suppose so. Thank you, for everything."
