Captain Blues: And I am back with a brand new chapter. My health has been rough for a long while, but I am back. I will be updating all my Rizzoli and Isles fics monthly from this chapter one until I'm better. With that said, time to continue the show!

Solid Bullet: One Shot Love
Chapter Eight: The Boyfriend and the Best Friend

Maura watched the movie screen with a blank expression on her face.

Her boyfriend, Garrett Fairfield of the wealthy Fairfield family, had finally returned from some business trip with his brother and father and decided to take her out to the movies.

She thought she would be having fun after having her boyfriend back, but all she could think about was Rizzoli. Ever since their conversation last week, Maura couldn't keep her mind off of her.

It felt weird to have her former enemy living in her mind like this, especially when her mind kept replaying Rizzoli's smile.

Her beautiful smile….

"Hey, you in there, Maura?" a hushed voice asked.

Maura's head snapped up to see Garrett staring at her with a disappointed expression on his face. "Oh, forgive me, Garrett," Maura apologized in a whisper. "I just have a lot on my mind, that's all."

Garrett frowned and said, "Well, whatever is on your mind, take a load off of it and enjoy this with me. I rented out the whole theater for the first showing of this movie."

Maura tried to smile at him, but she couldn't help but think poorly of the action. Maura understood that he was insanely wealthy but flaunting it like this was something she disliked.

But he was right. Maura should sit back and enjoy the movie and try to take her mind off the brown-eyed girl that seemed to occupy it.

"Hey Maura," Garrett's voice said. "This Saturday, my family was invited to a Gala for the Luthors. You want to come with me?"

The Luthors were America's most notorious and affluent family. From what Garrett had told her, his parents had been trying to nestle close to the Luthors to become business partners for over three years.

But while Maura knew this would be an excellent chance for the Isles family to be noticed by the wealthy family, Maura didn't want to disappoint Jane by canceling their outing. "I have plans," Maura simply told him.

"Plans?" Garrett asked with a hint of anger in his voice. "With who?"

"With my Mother," Maura replied as she patted his forearm to soothe the raging beast known as his jealousy. "We're going out of town for an event," Maura continued with a hitch in her throat, ignoring the immediate hive that formed on her forearms.

Thank goodness she wore a long-sleeved sweater today. Curse her allergic reaction to lying.

"Oh, okay," Garrett said, calming down. "That is disappointing, but maybe, we'll be able to meet them in the future together."

Maura remained silent, her right hand shaking from trying to scratch at the hives on her arm. "Let's just watch the movie," Maura said, her voice barely strong as she nestled into Garrett's arm.

But despite trying to focus actively on the movie, the smiling face of Rizzoli filled her mind once again.

"I just don't know what to do."

Frost and Frankie watched as Jane tore another piece of paper and launched it into the garbage, causing the paper ball to skim the rim before it fell inside. "I've been trying to think of places to take Isles, and yet, I can't think of anything!" Jane exclaimed.

Frost and Frankie exchanged looks before they both looked at Jane. "Jane, you need to relax," Frost said. "I know you want to make this work. But you can't force it."

"Yeah, yeah," Jane grumbled and leaned back in her hospital bed, her hands positioned behind her head. "I just want this to get on the right foot, y'know?"

Without warning, the door opened to reveal a teenage Caucasian female with honey blonde and striking blue eyes.

The girl wore a blue polo shirt, tan slacks, and blue sneakers, and she looked mad.

"Jane Clementine Rizzoli!" The girl exclaimed.

"K-Kara?!" Jane exclaimed as she leaned up off the bed.

"Oh yeah….I knew we forgot something," Frost said to Frankie before he turned to Jane and said, "Kara's back. Surprise."

"Gee, thanks!" Jane exclaimed before she looked at Kara. It had been six months since she had seen her best friend last, and while she was happy, she was terrified at seeing her again.

Every time her best friend left for school in Midvale, Jane always wound up hurting herself, but this time, she couldn't lie and say that it was an accident.

"W-What are you doing back here so soon?" Jane asked.

"Eliza was called back here for work earlier than expected, so we came back. But that can wait," Kara told her. "I leave for six months, and you decide to become a bullet sponge for Maura Isles? I thought you hated her."

"Man Kara, It's so good to see you, but we just remembered we had a thing," Frankie quickly said as he packed up.

"Yeah, we all should grab some Chinese food later," Frost said before he and Frankie ran out of the room.

"Traitors!" Jane yelled after them before she turned to Kara's annoyed expression. "T-To be fair," Jane stammered out. "I didn't expect this either. It just happened."

"Yeah, when I woke up yesterday morning, I didn't expect you to be on the news for saving Isles' life," Kara told her. "Do you know the panic Alex and I went through when we found out?"

Jane grimaced and asked, "How mad is she?"

"Very," Kara answered. "Lucky for you, she decided to stay in Midvale f with Jeremiah. So you still have about two months before she kicks your butt."

Jane sighed and said, "Thank goodness for small miracles. But, I'm glad you're here because I need help."

"Help? You're lucky I'm not throwing you to the moon for the amount of worry you caused," Kara said with a frown. "Jane, you have to think. You could have died, and where would I be without my best friend?"

Guilt blossomed in Jane's chest as she saw Kara's eyes tearing up.

Kara and Jane had been best friends since Kara arrived at their school three years ago. Sure, she only had Kara for half of the year due to her mother's job sending her back and forth to Boston every six months, but they were as thick as thieves.

Unfortunately, being as thick as thieves caused issues like this one where Jane would have to weasel out of Kara's bad side due to her reckless actions in helping others.

"Kara, I'm sorry," Jane apologized. "I really didn't think about it at the time. My body just moved on its own that day…."

"Why don't you tell me everything that happened. I need to understand what I've missed," Kara told her.

"Do I have to?" Jane groaned.

"Unless you want me to kick your butt for worrying me, you do," Kara answered with crossed arms and a pout.

"Okay, just put that pout away," Jane told her before she sighed and regaled her friend with all that occurred with Isles while she had been away, and after twenty minutes, Kara stared, gobsmacked by the tale.

"Rao…." Kara breathed out. "So you took a bullet for her, you two buried the hatchet, and now you're taking her out on a date?"

"Not a date!" Jane exclaimed, her cheeks turning red. "Just an adventure."

"Right….An "Adventure" and totally not a date. Got it," Kara replied with a smug smile.

"Yeah, it's not a date," Jane repeated. "So get those ideas out of your head."

"Okay, I believe you," Kara instantly replied earnestly, but Jane could hear the faint dismissive tone in her voice. "So, where are you taking Isles on your "Not" Date?"

"That's what I've been having issues with," Jane sighed as she laid back on the bed. "I've spent so long hating her that I never clocked what she likes. And now, I'm struggling."

Kara nodded before she announced, "Okay. Well, now that I know the full story. I'll help you out."

Jane's eyes widened in surprise before she narrowed them in suspicion. "What's the payment this time?"

"Frost and Frankie said something about Chinese food, right?" Kara asked. "You have to pay for me."

"What?! No! You're stomach is a bottomless pit!" Jane exclaimed.

"That's my price," Kara told her.

Jane sighed and said, "Fine."

Kara beamed as she marched up to Jane's side and kissed the girl on the cheek. "Marvelous. You sit here for a while. I'll be back," Kara chirped before she walked to the door.

"Kara? What are you about to do?" Jane hesitantly asked, but Kara turned her head and grinned. Apprehension turned to terror as she shouted, "Kara?! What are you about to do?!"

Kara quickly left the hospital.

"Oh no…." Jane sighed out.

"You think Kara killed her this time?" Frost asked Frankie as they sat outside the hospital.

"Nah, Kara wouldn't hurt her," Frankie said. "Might make her feel guilty, but not hurt her."

Frost nodded as he took a sip of his Cherry Pepsi and asked, "You think we should have told Jane that she was coming back?"

"And miss her reaction? No way in hell," Frankie replied before taking a drink of his Cherry Coke. "But now that Kara is here, we can let her in on the plan."

"What plan?" Kara asked as she walked up behind the pair and sat in between them.

"To hook Jane up with Maura," Frost answered.

Kara grinned and said, "Glad to see you two finally picked up the clues."

Frost and Frankie blinked.

"We're sorry, what?" the two asked.

Kara smirked and said, "Did you two really think I wouldn't have picked up on Jane's unknowing crush on Maura? I mean, Jane's my best friend. I've had to deal with her rants about Maura for years now."

"Besides," Kara said before she took a bottle of Orange Vanilla Coke from out her bookbag and drank it. "I already have a plan."

"Well, clue us in!" Frankie shouted.

Kara smirked and said, "Alright. Their date is this Saturday, right?"

The duo nodded.

"Then we don't have any time to waste," Kara announced. "Let's head to the Institute of Contemporary Art."

Captain Blues: A pretty short chapter but one that will help me get back into the swing of things. The next chapter, Kara , Frankie and Frost work on a plan and the NOT date is covered. Until then!
