The police came and took the little girl to a new family. On her first day to Sunday School, she walks into the building and sees a picture of Jesus on The Cross. The little girl asks the teacher, "How did that man get off the Cross?" The teacher replied, "He never did." The little girl argued, "Yes he did! Please read-true story (not me) I was walking around in a Target store, when I saw a Cashier hand this little boy some money back. The boy couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 years old. The Cashier said, 'I'm sorry, but you don't have enough money to buy this doll.' Then the little boy turned to the old woman next to him: ''Granny, are you sure I don't have enough money?'' The old lady replied: ''You know that you don't have enough money to buy this doll, my dear.'' Then she asked him to stay there for just 5 minutes while she went to look a round. She left quickly. The little boy was still holding the doll in his hand. Finally, I walked toward him and I asked him who he wished to give this doll to. 'It's the doll that my sister loved most and wanted so much for Christmas. She was sure that Santa Claus would bring it to her.' I replied to him that maybe Santa Claus would bring it to her after all, and not to worry. But he replied to me sadly. 'No, Santa Claus can't bring it to her where she is now. I have to give the doll to my mommy so that she can give it to my sister when she goes there.' His eyes were so sad while saying this. 'My Sister has gone to be with God. Daddy says that Mommy is going to see God very soon too, so I thought that she could take the doll with her to give it to my sister.'' My heart nearly stopped. The little boy looked up at me and said: 'I told daddy to tell mommy not to go yet. I need her to wait until I come back from the mall.' Then he showed me a very nice photo of him where he was laughing. He then told me 'I want mommy to take my picture with her so she won't forget me.' 'I love my mommy and I wish she doesn't have to leave me, but daddy says that she has to go to be with my little sister.' Then he looked again at the doll with sad eyes, very quietly. I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy. 'Suppose we check 'OK' he said, 'I hope I do have enough.' I added some of my money to his with out him seeing and we started to count it. There was enough for the doll and even some spare money. The little boy said: 'Thank you God for giving me enough money!' Then he looked at me and added, 'I asked last night before I went to sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll, so that mommy could give It to my sister. He heard me!'' 'I also wanted to have enough money to buy a white rose for my mommy, but I didn't dare to ask God for too much. But He gave me enough to buy the doll and a white rose.'' 'My mommy loves white roses.' A few minutes later, the old lady returned and I left with my basket. I finished my shopping in a totally different state from when I started. I couldn't get the little boy out of my mind. Then I remembered a local news paper article two days ago, which mentioned a drunk man in a truck, who hit a car occupied by a young woman and a little girl. The little girl died right away, and the mother was left in a critical state. The family had to decide whether to pull the plug on the life-sustaining machine, because the young woman would not be able to recover from the coma. Was this the family of the little boy? Two days after this encounter with the little boy, I read in the news paper that the young woman had passed away. I couldn't stop myself as I bought a bunch of white roses and I went to the funeral home where the body of the young woman was exposed for people to see and make last wishes before her burial. She was there, in her coffin, holding a beautiful white rose in her hand with the photo of the little boy and the doll placed over her chest. I left the place, teary-eyed, feeling that my life had been changed for ever. The love that the little boy had for his mother and his sister is still, to this day, hard to imagine. And in a fraction of a second, a drunk driver had taken all this away from him. Jesus had no servants, yet they called him Master... Dear Friend, I just had to write to tell you how much I love you and care for you. Yesterday, I saw you walking and laughing with your friends; I hoped that soon you'd want Me to walk along with you, too. So, I painted you a sunset to close your day and whispered a cool breeze to refresh you. I waited; you never called. I just kept on loving you. As I watched you fall asleep last night, I wanted so much to touch you. I spilled moonlight onto your face trickling down your cheeks as so many tears have. You didn't even think of me; I wanted so much to comfort you. The next day I exploded a brilliant sunrise into a glorious morning for you. But you woke up late and rushed off to work-you didn't even notice. My sky became cloudy and My tears were the rain. I love you. Oh, if you'd only listen. I really love you. I try to say it in the quiet of the green meadow and in the blue sky. The wind whispers My love throughout the treetops and spills it into the vibrant colors of the flowers. I shout it to you in the thunder of the great waterfalls and composed love songs for birds to sing for you. I warm you with the clothing of My sunshine and perfume the air with nature's sweet scent. My love for you is deeper than the ocean and greater than any need in your heart. If you'd only realize how I care. I died just for you. My Dad sends His love. I want you to meet Him. He cares, too. Fathers are just that way. So please call Me soon. No matter how long it takes, I'll wait because I love you. Favorite Quotes Alice Cullen Quotes "Hi, are you riding back on our bus? Hello, Bella. It’s nice to finally meet you. Hi Bella! You do smell nice, I never noticed before. Can we come in? It sounded like you were having Bella for lunch and we came to see if you would share. Of course you should bring Bella. No. The storm will hit over town. It should be dry enough in the clearing. Let’s go see if Carlisle will come. Everybody stop! I didn’t see—I couldn’t tell. They were traveling much quicker than I thought. I can see I had the wrong perspective before. They heard us playing and it changed their path. Less than five minutes. They’re running — they want to play. Three. That won’t help. I could smell her from across the field. Edward, pull over. Do it Edward. He doesn’t know where—. She’s right. Let’s look at our options for a minute. There’s another option. It might work — and we can’t leave her father unprotected. You know that. I don’t see him attacking. He’ll try to wait for us to leave her alone. We’re going to make it there before him. What are we going to do with the Jeep? No, I’m not. Yes, she is. You’ll get a better crack at him if you stay. Of course not. Jasper and I will take her. Edward, we’ll be with her. Stay indoors. Shut up, Emmett. Give him some credit, Edward. He’s been doing very, very well, all things considered. Edward say the woman is on Esme’s trail. I’ll get the car. May I? No, but it’s better to be close, just in case. Can I come in? You look like you could sleep longer. We’ll need to stay inside. Thirsty? Nothing unmanageable. I ordered some food for you, it’s in the front room. Edward reminded me that you need to eat a lot more frequently than we do. No. It was before we left. Nothing’s wrong. We wait for Carlisle to call. It just means that they don’t have anything to tell us. It’s been almost a century that Edward’s been alone. Now he’s found you. You can’t see the changes that we see, we who have been with him for so long. Do you think any of us want to look into his eyes for the next hundred years if he loses you? Yes? Carlisle wanted to lead the tracker as far north as possible, wait for him to get close, and then turn and ambush him. Esme and Rosalie were supposed to head west as long as they could keep the female behind them. If she turned around, they were to head back to Forks and keep an eye on your dad. So I imagine things are going well if they can’t call. It means the tracker is close enough that they don’t want him to overhear. I think she must be back in Forks. She won’t call if there’s any chance the female will overhear. I expect they’re all just being very careful. Bella, how many times do we have to tell you that there’s no danger to us? Yes. I will always tell you the truth. Edward doesn’t want me to tell you that. I know. He’ll be extremely angry. I’ll tell you the mechanics of it, but I don’t remember it myself, and I’ve never done it or seen it done, so keep in mind that I can only tell you the theory. As predators, we have a glut of a weapons in our physical arsenal — much, much, more than really necessary. The strength, the speed, the acute senses, not to mention those of us like Edward, Jasper, and I, who have extra senses. And, then, like a carnivorous flower, we are physically attractive to our prey . We have another fairly superfluous weapon. We’re also venomous. The venom doesn’t kill — it’s merely incapacitating. It works slowly, spreading through the bloodstream, so that, once bitten, our prey is in too much physical pain to escape us. Mostly superfluous, as I said. If we’re that close, the prey doesn’t escape. Of course, there are always exceptions. Carlisle, for example. It takes a few days for the transformation to be complete, depending on much venom is in the bloodstream, how close the venom enters to the heart. As long as the heart keeps beating, the poison spreads, healing, changing the body as it moves through it. Eventually the heart stops, and the conversion is finished. But all that time, every minute of it, a victim would be wishing for death. It’s not pleasant, you see. We’re also like sharks in a way. Once we taste the blood, or even smell it for that matter, it becomes very hard to keep from feeding. Sometimes impossible. So you see, to actually bite someone, to taste the blood, it would begin the frenzy. It’s difficult on both sides — the bloodlust on the one hand, the awful pain on the other. I don’t know. For everyone else, the pain of transformation is the sharpest memory they have of their human life. I remember nothing of being human. Something’s changed. I see a room. It’s long, and there are mirrors everywhere. The floor is wooden. He’s in the room, and he’s waiting. There’s gold...a gold stripe across the mirrors. I don’t know. Something’s missing — another decision hasn’t been made yet. It’s soon. He’ll be in the mirror room today, or maybe tomorrow. It all depends. He’s waiting for something. And he’s in the dark now. He’s watching TV...no he’s running a VCR, in the dark, in another place. No, it’s too dark. Just the mirrors, and the gold. It’s a band, around the room. And there’s a black table with a big stereo, and a TV. He’s touching the VCR there, but he doesn’t watch the way he does in the dark room. This is the room where he waits. But we do know that he won’t be in the mountains in the north of Washington, being hunted. He’ll elude them. Carlisle. Yes. I just saw him. Whatever made get on that plane...it was leading him to those rooms. Yes. Bella? Would you have any reason to go there now? So there’s no way it could be connected with you? Yes. The number will just trace back to Washington. I thought she was in Florida. Jasper? Bella. Bella, Edward is coming to get you. He and Emmett and Carlisle are going to take you somewhere, to hide you for a while. Yes, he’s catching the first flight out of Seattle. We’ll meet him at the airport, and you’ll leave with him. Jasper and I will stay till she’s safe. We’ll catch him, Bella. They’re just boarding their plane. They’ll land at nine-forty-five. He went to check out. No, we’re relocating closer to your mother’s house. Hello? No, she’s right here. Your mother. We’ll make sure she’s fine, Bella, don’t worry. Sure, Bella. Bella. Nothing, really. Just the same room as before. Did you want breakfast. Yes? Yes, things change... Some things are more certain than others...like the weather. People are harder. I only see the course they’re on while they’re on it. Once they change their minds—make a new decision, no matter how small—the whole future shifts. Yes. I’ll come with you. Edward, you have to do it. Will that work? Happy birthday, Bella! Do you want to open your present now or later? Okay...later, then. Did you like the scrapbook your mom sent you? And the camera from Charlie? I think it’s a nice idea. You’re only a senior once. Might as well document the experience. That’s different. Of course you’ll enjoy it. Everyone is supposed to nice to you and give your way, Bella. What’s the worst that could happen? Eighteen isn’t very old. Don’t women usually wait till they’re twenty-nine to get upset over birthdays? Technically. Just by one little year, though. What time will you be at the house tonight? Oh, be fair, Bella! You aren’t going to ruin all our fun like that, are you? You don’t, actually. I already spoke to Mrs. Newton about it. She’s trading your shifts. She said to tell you ‘Happy Birthday.’ You have Romeo and Juliet memorized. You’ve already seen the movie. This can be easy, or this can be hard, Bella, but one way or the other— Sounds good. See you tonight, Bella. It’ll be fun, you’ll see. Time to open presents. But I didn’t listen. Open it. Open mine and Edward’s next. Here, Carlisle. I’ll get your bag. You might as well do something useful. C’mon. I’ll get you something less macabre to wear. Yes? I’m not sure yet. He’s very unhappy with himself. It’s all so much more of a challenge for him and he hates feeling weak. Of course. Take your things! You can thank me later, when you’ve opened them! Bella? I’d forgotten how exuberant you are. It’s my own fault. It’s been too long since I hunted. I shouldn’t let myself get so thirsty. But I was in a hurry today. Speaking of which, would you like to explain to me how you’re alive? No, I saw you jump. I told him this would happen, but he didn’t believe me. ‘Bella promised.’ ‘Don’t be looking for her future either. We’ve done enough damage.’ But just because I’m not looking, doesn’t mean I don’t see. I wasn’t keeping tabs on you, I swear, Bella, It’s just that I’m already attuned to you...when I saw you jumping, I didn’t think, I just got on a plane. I knew I would be too late, but I couldn’t do nothing. And then I get here, thinking maybe I could help Charlie somehow, and you drive up. I saw you go into the water and I waited and waited for you to come up, but you didn’t. What happened? And how could you do that to Charlie? Did you stop to think about what this would do to him? And my brother? Do you have any idea what Edward — Are you saying you didn’t jump off a cliff? Someone pulled you out? Don’t be ridiculous. Who was with you out there just now? It sounded like you were arguing? I don’t know. I’m not sure what it means. He was a fool to think you could survive alone. I’ve never met anyone so prone to life-threatening idiocy. So, if the currents were too strong for you, how did this Jacob manage? Well, I guess that explains the smell. But does it explain what I didn’t see? You smell awful. A werewolf? Are you sure about that? No. I hadn’t found him yet. Your best friend is a werewolf? A young werewolf? Even worse! Edward was right — you’re a magnet for danger. Weren’t you supposed to staying out of trouble? Until they lose their tempers. Leave it to you, Bella. Anyone else would be better off when the vampires left town. Butt you have to start hanging around with the first monsters you can find. Victoria? Laurent? Tell me everything — start at the beginning. Our leaving didn’t do you any good at all, did it? Well...I guess I acted impulsively today. I probably shouldn’t have intruded. All right. I’m not going anywhere tonight. Take a deep breath. You look like hell, Bella. It goes deeper than that. You’re a mess. What do you mean? I told him. I do. But I hoped. They aren’t excited that I’m here. So what do we do now? Things to do. Loose ends to tie. I don’t know for sure...I need to see Carlisle. If you think it’s a good idea. I have a house, Bella. Well, I need to go get a suitcase of clothes, at the very least. And I think I’ll need to hunt. Immediately. Can you stay out of trouble for one hour? Yes, you’ll be fine. For tonight, anyway. I promise—one hour. Thanks. Bella. What are we going to do with you? I believe you. No. He checks in every few months. I was in Denali. Visiting Tanya’s family. He didn’t approve of my interfering. We promised... And you think Charlie won’t mind my being here? Well, we’re about to find out. Hi, Charlie. I’m sorry I came at such a bad time. It’s me. I was in the neighborhood. No, I’m alone. Thank you, Charlie. I know it’s horrid timing. You look tired. He doesn’t know. He and Esme were on a hunting trip. I’ll hear from him in a few days, when he gets back. No. He’d bite my head off. How bad was it, Charlie? Tell me about it. I want to know exactly what happened when we left. She snapped out of it, though? But? I’m so sorry, Charlie. She seem better now, though. Then it’s good she has him. She’s one of a kind. So am I, Charlie, so am I. I wouldn’t have come if I’d had any idea. I’m sorry. I hope you’re right. Go ahead. He doesn’t even know I’m here. The last time I spoke with him, he was in South America. I wouldn’t make assumptions, Charlie. I’m in the kitchen, Bella. My name was Mary Alice Brandon. I had a little sister named Cynthia. Her daughter — my niece — is still alive in Biloxi. I couldn’t find much about them. I went through all the old newspapers on microfiche. My family wasn’t mentioned often; they’re weren’t part of the social circle that made the papers. My parents’ engagement was there, and Cynthia’s. My birth was announced...and my death. I found my grave. I also filched my admissions sheet from the old asylum archives. The date on the admission and the date on my tombstone are the same. So, what are we doing today? But it’s still early. Bella, I have a fairly good guess who that might be, and I think I’d better step out. If this is a repeat of my egregious lapse of foresight yesterday, then it’s most likely Jacob Black or one of his...friends. So it would seem. Trust me — it wouldn’t be a good idea to have me and Jacob Black in a room together. Bella. Edward. Bella? Bella, snap out of it. We have to hurry. Calm down, Jacob Black. You don’t want to do that so close to her. I don’t know. What is he thinking?! Rose, I need to talk to Carlisle, now. Fine, as soon as he’s back. No, I’ll be on a plane. Look, have you heard anything from Edward? Why? Why would you do that, Rosalie? Well, you’re wrong on both counts, though, Rosalie, so that would be a problem, don’t you think? Yes, that’s right. She’s absolutely fine—I was wrong...It’s a long story...But you’re wrong about that part, too, that’s why I’m calling...Yes that’s exactly what I saw. It’s a bit late for that, Rose. Save your remorse for someone who believes it. How long ago? What did he say? Is that everything? What were his exact words? That wasn’t Carlisle on the phone. It was Edward. He thinks you’re dead. Yes. In her defense, she did believe it. They rely on my sight far too much for something that works so imperfectly. But for her to track him down to tell hem this! Doesn’t she realize...or care...? You’re not upset. Bella, Edward won’t call again. He believed her. He’s going to Italy. He made up his mind as soon as your friend confirmed that it was too late to save you. I don’t think he ever planned to outlive you by long. That was the first thing I tried. He left his phone in a trash in Rio — someone answered it... Bella, I — I don’t think I can ask you to... We may already be too late. I saw him going to the Volturi...and asking to die. It all depends on what they choose. I can’t see that till they make a decision. But if they say no, and they might — Aro is fond of Carlisle and wouldn’t want to offend him — Edward has a backup plan. They’re very protective of their city. If Edward does something to upset the peace, he thinks they’ll act to stop him. And he’s right. They will. So if they agree to grant his favor, we’re too late. If they say no, and he comes up with a plan to offend them quickly enough, we’re too late. If he gives into his more theatrical tendencies...we might have time. Listen, Bella! Whether we are in time or not, we will be in the heart of the Volturi city. I will be considered his accomplice if he is successful. You will be a human who not only knows too much, but also smells too good. There’s a very good chance that they will eliminate us all — though in your case it won’t be punishment so much as dinnertime. I’m only afraid of getting you killed. You write a note to Charlie. I’ll call the airlines. Hurry, Bella. Get your wallet — you’ll need ID. Please tell me you have a passport. I don’t have time to forge one. Yes. You’re right, dog. The Volturi are the very essence of our kind — they’re the reason your hair stands on end when you smell me. They are the substance of your nightmares, the dread behind your instincts. I’m not unaware of that. You think she’d be better off if I left her alone, will Victoria stalking her? Then why is she still hunting? It’s faster than running. I can’t be sure, I keep seeing him do different things, he keeps changing his mind... A killing spree through the city, attacking the guard, lifting a car over his heard in the square...mostly things that would expose them—he knows that’s the fastest way to force a reaction... No, you can’t. Tell Emmett no...Well go after Emmett and Rosalie and bring them back...Think about it, Jasper. If he sees any of us, what do you think he will do? Exactly. I think Bella is the only chance — if there is a chance...I’ll do everything that can be done, but prepare Carlisle. The odds aren’t good. I’ve thought of that...Yes, I promise. Don’t follow me. I promise, Jasper. One way or another, I’ll get out...And I love you. I hate lying to him. Two reasons. We could try to stop Edward ourselves — if Emmett could get his hands on him, we might be able to stop him long enough to convince him you’re alive. But we can’t sneak up on Edward. And if he sees us coming for him, he’ll just act that much faster. He’ll throw a Buick through a wall or something, and the Volturi will take him down. That’s the second reason, of course, the reason I couldn’t say to Jasper. Because if they’re there and the Volturi kill Edward, they’ll fight them. Bella. If there were any chance we could win...if there were a way we could save my brother by fighting for him, maybe it would be different. But we can’t, and, Bella, I can’t lose Jasper like that. If he were listening. But believe it or not, it’s possible to lie with your thoughts. If you had died, I would still try to stop him. And I would be thinking ‘she’s alive, she’s alive’ as hard as I could. He knows that. If there were any way to do this without you, Bella, I wouldn’t be endangering you like this. It’s very wrong of me. I promised him I would get out before they killed me, too. That’s not something I can guarantee — not by a long shot. I was surprised you recognized the name. That you understood so immediately what it meant — when I said he was going to Italy. I thought I would have to explain. How much did Edward tell you? You have to understand. We Cullens are unique in more ways than you know. It’s...abnormal for so many of us to live together in peace. It’s the same for Tanya’s family in the north, and Carlisle speculates that abstaining makes it easier for us to be civilized, to form bonds based on love rather than survival or convenience. Even James’s little coven of three was unusually large — and you saw how easily Laurent left them. Our kind travel alone, or in pairs, as a general rule. Carlisle’s family is the biggest in existence, as far as I know, with the one exception. The Volturi. There were three of them originally, Aro, Caius, and Marcus. Two females joined them over time, and the five of them make up the family. I’m not sure, but I suspect that their age is what gives them the ability to live peacefully together. They are well over three thousand years old. Or maybe it’s their gifts that give them extra tolerance. Like Edward and I, Aro and Marcus are...talented. Or maybe it’s just their love of power that binds them together. Royalty is an apt description. Five that make up the family. That doesn’t include their guard. Oh, it is. There were nine members of the guard that were permanent, the last time we heard. Others are more...transitory. It changes. And many of them are gifted as well—with formidable gifts, gifts that make what I can do look like a parlor trick. The Volturi chose them for their abilities, physical or otherwise. They don’t get into too many confrontations. No one is stupid enough to mess with them. They stay in their city, leaving only as duty calls. Didn’t Edward tell you what they do? There’s a reason he called them royalty...the ruling class. Over the millennia, they have assumed the position of enforcing our rules — which actually translates to punishing transgressors. They fulfill that duty decisively. It’s not that complicated, Bella. There’s only one core restriction—and if you think about it, you can probably figure it out for yourself. Maybe it’s too obvious. We just have to keep our existence a secret. It makes sense, and most of us don’t need policing. But, after a few centuries, sometimes one of us gets bored. Or crazy. I don’t know. And then the Volturi step in before it can compromise them, or any of us. Is planning to flout that in their own city — the city that they’ve secretly held for three thousand years, since the time of the Etruscans. They are so protective of their city that they don’t allow hunting within its walls. Volterra is probably the safest city in the world — from vampire attack at the very least. They don’t leave. They bring in food from the outside, from quite far away sometimes. It gives their guard something to do when they’re not out annihilating mavericks. Or protecting Volterra from exposure...I doubt they’ve ever had a situation quite like this. You don’t get a lot of suicidal vampires. We’ll do what we can, Bella. It’s not over yet. You say that like it’s a good thing. Knock it off, Bella, or we’re turning around in New York and going back to Forks. You know what. If we’re too late for Edward, I’m going to do my damnedest to get you back to Charlie, and I don’t want any trouble from you. Do you understand that? No trouble. Let me concentrate, now. I’m trying to see what he’s planning. Not exactly. He’s getting closer. He’s deciding how he’s going to ask. Bella. It’s not wrong. It’s right. They’re deliberating, but they’ve decided to tell him no. Of course, Bella, keep up. No, thank you. They’re interested in him — they think his talent could be useful. They’re going to offer him a place with them. I can’t see that yet, but I bet it will be colorful. This is the first good news — the first break. They’re intrigued; they truly don’t want to destroy him—‘wasteful’—that’s the word Aro will use—and that may be enough to force him to get creative. The longer he spends on his plans, the better for us. What? It’s clear because it’s immediate and close, and I’m really concentrating. The faraway things that come on their own—those are just glimpses, faint maybes. Plus, I see my kind more easily than yours. Edward is even easier because I’m so attuned to him. Not as clearly. What do you mean? It was a possibility at the time. Actually, Bella...Honestly, I think it’s all gotten beyond ridiculous. I’m debating whether just to change you myself. Did I scare you? I thought that’s what you wanted. Shh. Try to be reasonable. We don’t have enough time. We have to get into Volterra tomorrow. You’d be writhing in pain for days. And I don’t think the other passengers will react well. No. I don’t think I will. He’ll be furious, but what will he be able to do about it? You have too much faith in me, Bella. I’m not sure that I can. I’ll probably just end up killing you. You are so bizarre, even for a human. Oh well, this is merely hypothetical at this point, anyway. First we have to live through tomorrow. Go back to sleep. I’ll wake you up when there’s something new. They’ve told him no. It was chaotic at first. I was only getting flickers, he was changing plans so quickly. There was a bad hour. He’d decided to go hunting. In the city. It got very close. He changed his mind at the last minute. Probably. I’m hoping so — if he sticks to his latest decision. He’s going to keep it simple. He’s just going to walk out into the sun. Right now, he’s leaning toward the melodramatic. He wants the biggest audience possible, so he’ll choose the main plaza, under the clock tower. The walls are high there. He’ll wait till the sun is exactly overhead. If we’re lucky. If he sticks with this decision. That depends on how fast you drive...Bella? How strongly opposed are you to grand theft auto? Hurry, Bella! The important question, is whether I could have stolen a faster car, and I don’t think so. I got lucky. Trust me, Bella. If anyone sets up a roadblock, it will be behind us. There’s something going on. Some kind of festival. The streets are full of people and red flags. What’s the date today? Well, that’s ironic. It’s Saint Marcus Day. The city holds a celebration every year, As the legend goes, a Christian missionary, a Father Marcus — Marcus of the Volturi, in fact — drove all the vampires from Volterra fifteen hundred years ago. The story claims he was martyred in Romania, still trying to drive away the vampire scourge. Of course that’s nonsense — he’s never left the city. But that’s where some of the superstitions about things like crosses and garlic come from. Father Marcus used them so successfully. And vampires don’t trouble Volterra, so they must work. It’s become more of a celebration of the city and recognition for the police force—after all, Volterra is an amazingly safe city. The police get the credit. No. They’ll act very quickly. Yes. He’s decided to wait. And they’re waiting for him. You don’t have to do anything. He just has to see you before he moves into the light. And he has to see you before he sees me. I’m going to get you as close as possible, and then you’re going to run in the direction I point you. Try not to trip. We don’t have time for a concussion today. There. Volterra. It’s the only way in. I know. Bella, I can’t see what the guard here will decide now—if this doesn’t work you’re going to have to go in alone. You’re going to have to run. Just keeping asking for the Palazzo dei Priori, and running in the direction they tell you. Don’t get lost. Or ‘the clock tower,’ if they speak English. I’ll go around and try to find a secluded spot somewhere behind in the city where I can go over the wall. Edward will be under the clock tower, to the north of the square. There’s a narrow alleyway on the right, and he will be in the shadow there. You have to get his attention before he can move into the sun. It’s a private tour. Only if you think it’s funny. I’m in a wee bit of a hurry. Just a little farther. There — we’re at the southern end of the square. Run straight across, to the right of the clock tower. I’ll find a way around — They’re everywhere! Forget about them. You have two minutes. Go, Bella, go! Let’s behave ourselves, shall we? There are ladies present. We’re not alone. It was my mistake. It was my job to set it right. It’s a long story. In summary, she did jump off a cliff, but she wasn’t trying to kill herself. Bella’s all about the extreme sports these days. I’m right here, Bella. Drop her. Patience. Oh, I’m far from infallible. As you can today, I cause problems as often as I cure them. Don’t! He’s fine. No, thank you. But that will. You’d better make her sit before she falls. She’s going to pieces. I think she’s having hysterics. Maybe you should slap her. What was all that talk about singers? Yes, that. I’m sorry. There wasn’t much to choose from. I may have to acquire one of those legally. It was fabulous. Yellow. Everything. That, too. Which was? Idiots. Yes. Um, Bella, I don’t think I ready for that. I’ll need to prepare... I know, but...Seriously, Bella! I don’t have any idea how not to kill you. Happy birthday Bella! Here’s your present. You’re going to love it and wear it to my house tonight. See you at seven. Relax, Jasper, it’s just a little...blood. Would you care to explain to me how you’re still alive? I’ve never met anyone more prone to life-threatening idiocy. What is that wet dog smell? Yes, as soon as you let the dog out. I didn’t see Victoria either. I can’t see anything with you and your pack of mutts around. He’s going to the Volturi. Rosalie told him why I was coming here. He thinks you’re dead. He wants to die, too. I figured you wouldn’t be too opposed to grand theft auto. Go, Bella, go! Now, gentlemen, let’s behave ourselves. We wouldn’t want to cause a scene, now would we? Yes, I already think of you as my sister. All done. What should we do? Free is free, right? So what are we doing tonight? We’ll celebrate this weekend, then. Sorry, I was daydreaming, I guess. You’re not really that good a mechanic, Edward. Maybe you should have Rosalie take a look at it tonight, so if Mike decides to let you help, you know. Not that it wouldn’t be fun if Rosalie showed up to help. But since Rosalie is supposed to across the country attending college, I guess that’s not the best idea. Too bad. Though I suppose, for Mike’s car, you’ll do. It’s only with the finer tunings of a good Italian sports car that you’re out of your depth. And speaking of Italy and sports cars I stole there, you still owe me a yellow Porsche. I don’t know that I want to wait for Christmas... I’m offended. You’re not honestly worried about this, are you? They left early. All the boys left and we’re having a slumber party! Aren’t you excited? Till Saturday. Esme cleared it with Charlie; you’re staying with me two nights, and I will drive you to and from school. Sorry. He paid me off. The Porsche. It’s exactly like the one I stole in Italy. I’m not supposed to drive it around Forks, but if you want, we could see how long it takes to get from here to L. A. — I bet I could have you back by midnight. Pretty, isn’t it? Not really. You don’t seem to grasp how dangerous a young werewolf can be. Especially when I can’t see them. Edward has no way of knowing if you’re safe. You shouldn’t be so reckless. I’ll give you a pedicure and everything. How late do you want to stay up? What kind of a slumber party would that be? Already taken care of. Oh. I’m not sure about that. Okay, okay. He didn’t specifically prohibit this — I don’t think he’ll have his phone on him. This hostage stuff is fun. I’m just going to show you where your stuff is. You didn’t really think he would make you sleep on the couch, did you? I’ll give you some privacy. See you in the morning. Tonight we’ll go out to Olympia or something. That would be fun, right? He’s going to take the Porsche back. I’m not doing a very good job. You’re supposed to be having fun. I haven’t even had a chance to drive it. You look like you could use a hot shower. Do you want to talk about it? Do you want to go to Olympia tonight? Thanks. I have no idea. I didn’t see anything. It’s not an exact science. I would have seen that. You’ve already got me watching the Volturi’s decisions, watching for Victoria’s return, watching Bella’s every step. You want me to add another? Do I have to watch Charlie, or Bella’s room or the whole street? Edward, if I try to do too much, things are going to start slipping through the cracks. She was never in any danger. There was nothing to see. I don’t think it’s them. I would have seen that. I don’t know. I understand. I’m not happy about it, either. Aro hasn’t asked anyone to look for her yet. I will see that. I’m waiting for it. Or Jane’s... They both have the resources to send an unfamiliar face... I don’t think so. The timing of it was too perfect...The visitor was so careful to make no contact. Almost like he or she knew I would see... It’s all going to be fine, Bella. I have foreseen..., Fine, Edward is making me do this. But I did foresee that you would be more difficult if I surprised you. Don’t be a baby about this. No tantrums. So you’re—we’re—having a graduation party. It’s no big thing. Nothing to freak out over. But I saw that you would freak out if I tried to make it a surprise party and Edward said I had to tell you. It’s nothing. Promise. None at all. That’s the spirit. By the way, I love my gift. You shouldn’t have. Oh, I know that. But you will. It’s a talent. Bella, do you know what day it is? Yes, it is Monday...the fourth. What is he rambling about? What are you thinking? You’ve kept me waiting a long time. And you ducked your head like a good Southern gentleman and said, ‘I’m sorry, ma’am.’ I was just relieved. I thought you were never going to show up. Your room had the best view. An army. Why didn’t you tell me? They’re not coming after us, Or...they don’t know that that they are. Not yet. Flickers. I can’t see a clear picture when I try to see what’s going on, nothing concrete. Not enough to make sense of. It’s as if someone’s changing their mind, moving from one course of action to another so quickly that I can’t get a good view...I don’t know. Who would know that? Unless they didn’t want to get their hands dirty. Say whatever you like. The party is still on. Oh, calm down, Bella! There’s no reason not to go through with it. Besides, the invitations are already sent out. You’ve already bought my present. You don’t have to do anything but show up. Graduation is what’s going on right now, and a party is so appropriate it’s almost passé. There are a few things we need to get in order now, and that’s going to take a little time. As long as we’re sitting here waiting, we might as well commemorate the good stuff. You’re only going to graduate from high school — for the first time — once. You don’t get to be human again, Bella. This is a once-in-a-lifetime shot. They’re friends. Everything’s going to be fine. Don’t worry. And then, Jasper has to teach us a few courses on newborn elimination... You look kind of green, Bella. Yes. That really wouldn’t be helpful. There’s not enough time to make you helpful, Bella. Do you remember how Jasper described the young ones? You’d be no good in a fight. You wouldn’t be able to control your instincts, and that would make you an easy target. And then Edward would get hurt trying to protect you, Oh. I hate last-minute cancellations. So that puts the party attendance list down to sixty-five. Renée. She was going to surprise you for your graduation, but something went wrong. You’ll have a message when you get home. What did I do? Knock, knock. I’m just passing through. I thought you might need something to wear. Admit it. I’m a lifesaver. Well, it’s nice to get something right for a change. You don’t know how irritating it is — missing things the way I have been. I feel so useless. So...normal. Well, at least this makes up for missing your annoying thief — now I just have to figure out what I’m not seeing in Seattle. Aren’t you going to open it? What is? You don’t have anything like this. For crying out loud, you only own one skirt! You don’t like it? Why do you think that? You’re right. Of course you’re right. And when you put that way... Oh, no. If you think that one thing has changed, you’re absolutely wrong. If someone wants one of us, they’re going to have to through the rest of us to get to her. Maybe. I have to go. Edward is coming. If he hears this... Put it on. Edward! I need your advice! Should we give them familiar and comforting? Or should we educate their taste in music? You’ll do. Who invited the werewolf? Well, you go take care of it, then. I have to talk to Carlisle. I need to talk to you. Excuse me? It’s okay Jasper. He actually has a point. The decision’s been made. No. Yes. One carried your red shirt. I know. But it doesn’t matter where we stop them. There still won’t be enough of us, and some of them will come here to search. That won’t help. It’s not like we’re dealing with a tracker. They’ll still come looking here first. Bella! Our kind. Lots of them. For Bella. That’s all we know. Excellent! Everything just disappeared, of course. That’s inconvenient, but all things considered, I’ll take it. I wouldn’t go that far, but we need the help. We aren’t going to be picky. Bella, separately we all could get killed. Together— It changes—twenty-one today, but the numbers are going down. Long story. And this isn’t the place for it. What do you mean? Gotcha. Cool, huh? I’ve got my eye on you, Bella. I’ll warn him if your plans get any more defined. It doesn’t help anything to put yourself in danger? Do you think either of them would give up if you died? They’d still fight, we all would. You can’t change anything, so just be good, okay? I’m watching. You’re going to miss all the fun. There’s not much to arrange. I already told them. Emmett is pleased. You worry too much, Bella. You’re going to go prematurely gray. Edward is such a grouch when he doesn’t get his way. I’m just anticipating living with him for the next few months. I suppose, if it keeps you sane, it’s worth it. But I wish you would control the pessimism, Bella. It’s so unnecessary. That’s different. Go clean yourself up. Charlie will be home in fifteen minutes, and if you look this ragged he’s not going to want to let you out again. I’m fine, Charlie, thanks. It was worth it. It was great party. No. He’s off planning the weekend with Emmett and Carlisle. Yes. They’re all going, except me. We always go backpacking at the end of the school year, sort of a celebration, but this year I decided I’d rather shop than hike, and not one of them will stay behind with me. I’m abandoned. Oh, would you, Bella? You don’t mind shopping with me, right? Tomorrow. After dinner, I guess. You don’t have anything going on Saturday, do you? I want to get out of town to shop and it will be an all-day thing. Of course not. I was thinking Olympia, maybe... I think that you’re going to want to pack for cold weather, Edward. I can’t see where you are exactly, because you’re taking off with that dog this afternoon. But the storm that’s coming seems particularly bad in that general area. It’s going to snow over the mountains. Wear a jacket. Bella, could I please speak to you alone? It’s not. This a female thing. Bella? Don’t you love me? Then why do I see you sneaking off to Vegas to get married without inviting me? I don’t care whose idea it was. How could you do this to me? I expect that kind of thing from Edward, but not from you. I love you like you are my sister. Words! How much do you love m, Bella? Please, please, please. Please, Bella, please—if you really love me...let me do your wedding. If you really, truly love me, Bella. I’ll bet Edward would like it better if you did this the traditionally, though he’d never tell you that. And Esme — think what it would mean to her! I’ll owe you for a decade. Is that a yes? You won’t have to do anything but walk a few yards and repeat after the minister. Please? Please, please, please, please, please? Yay! But it will be. Not a chance. Bella would never do that to me. You know, Edward, as a brother, you are sometimes a disappointment. I’m trying to make you happy, too, Bella. It’s just that I know better what will make you happy...in the long run. You’ll thank me for this. Maybe not for fifty years, but definitely someday. So, are you going to show me the ring? Huh. I saw him put it on you...Did I miss something? No. Wedding’s still on. What’s one more diamond? Well, I guess the ring has lots of diamonds, but my point is that he’s already got one on — We’ll talk about it later. Edward is right — you’d better get going. You’ve got to set a trap and make camp before the storm comes. Don’t forget your coat, Bella. It seems...unseasonably cold. Have a nice night. Another five minutes. And Bella will open her eyes in thirty-seven seconds. I wouldn’t doubt that she can hear us now. Three minutes. Overprotective fool. Jacob’s still unconscious. Carlisle or Edward will call when he’s awake. Anyway, you need to go see Charlie. He was there at Billy’s house, he saw that Carlisle and Edward are back in from their trip, and he’s bound to suspicious when you get home. You need to think of Charlie now. You’ve had a long day — sorry, I know that doesn’t begin to cover it — but that doesn’t mean you can shirk your responsibilities. It’s more important than ever that Charlie stays safely in the dark. Play your role first, Bella, and then you can do what you want second. Part of being a Cullen is being meticulously responsible. Go home. Talk to Charlie. Flesh out your alibi. Keep him safe. That dress is adorable on you. You need the evidence. What’s a shopping trip without a new outfit? It’s very flattering, if I do say so myself. Jacob is fine, Bella. There’s no hurry. If you realized how much extra morphine Carlisle had to give him — what with his temperature burning it off so quickly — you would know that he’s going to be out for a while. Is there anything you want to talk about before you leave? You must be more than a little traumatized. Everyone is different. But something like that, yes. It passes. A few years, maybe less. It might be different for you. I’ve never seen anyone go through this who’s chosen it beforehand. It should be interesting to see how that affects you. We’ll keep you out of trouble. If you’re worried about Carlisle and Edward, I’m sure they’ll be fine. Sam is beginning to trust us...well, to trust Carlisle, at least. It’s a good thing, too. I imagine the atmosphere got a little tense when Carlisle had to rebreak the fractures — Sorry. You know I don’t see everything. Jasper, too, Bella — his talent works on your body just as well as it does on anyone else’s. That’s the difference, do you see it? Jasper’s abilities affect the body physically. He really does calm your system down, or excite it. It’s not an illusion either; reality, or at least one version of it. But Jane and Edward and Aro and Demetri — they work inside the mind. Jane only creates an illusion of pain. She doesn’t really hurt your body, you only think you feel it. You see, Bella? You are safe inside your mind. No one can reach you there. It’s no wonder Aro was so curious about your future abilities. He’s going to be okay, Bella. I don’t need a vision to know that. Are you ready to go? I’ll do my best. Oh, that’s easy. Sure, I do. Don’t you know your own mind, Bella? I’m only as sure as you are, Bella. You know that. If you were to change your mind, what I see would change...or disappear, in your case. I’m sorry. I can’t really empathize. My first memory is of seeing Jasper’s face in my future; I always knew that he was where my life was headed. But I can sympathize. I’m sorry you have to choose between two good things. Thank you, Bella! I know, I know. I only until August thirteenth at the latest, you have veto power on the guest list, and if I go overboard on anything, you’ll never speak to me again. Don’t worry, Bella, it will be perfect. Do you want to see your dress? These things take time, Bella. I mean, I wasn’t sure things were going to turn out this way, but there was a distinct possibility...Perrine Bruyere has a waiting list, you know. Fabric masterpieces don’t happen overnight. If I hadn’t thought ahead, you’d be wearing something off the rack! He’s not a major designer, Bella, so there’s no need to throw a hissy fit. He’s got promise, though, and he specializes in what I needed. No, you’re not. You — out. Bella. You know the rules. He’s not supposed to see the dress until the day of. All right! C’mon. Well? What do you think? I know. More or less. Some of it is my design, the train, the veil...The lace is vintage. Do you like it? But is it just right for you? Thank you, Bella! I’ve got so much to do! Go play with Edward. I have to get to work. Esme!"—Alice Cullen Esme Cullen Quotes "It’s very nice to know you. Do you play? No. Edward didn’t tell you he was musical? I hope you haven’t been showing off — it’s rude. Well, play for her. There are exceptions to every rule. It’s settled then. Was that you we heard, Edward? Shall we go down? No I prefer to referee — I like keeping them honest. Oh, yes — you should hear the arguments they get into! Actually, I hope you don’t, you would think they were raised by a pack of wolves. Well, I do think of them as my children in most ways. I never could get over my mothering instincts — did Edward tell you I had lost a child? Yes, my first and only baby. He died just a few days after he was born, the poor tiny thing. It broke my heart — that’s why I jumped all off the cliff. Always the gentleman. Edward was the first of my new sons. I’ve always thought of him that way, though he is older than I, in one way at least. That’s why I’m so happy that he’s found you, dear. He’s been the odd man out for far too long; it’s hurt me to see him alone. No. You’re what he wants. It will work out, somehow. All right. Batter up. If they don’t hit it, it’s a strike. Wait. Out! Emmett hits the hardest, but Edward runs the fastest. Safe. Alice? Of course. Trying to confuse the smell. It won’t work for long, but it might help get you out. Now. Be safe. Happy birthday, Bella! I’m so sorry, Bella. Yes, of course, Bella. I already think of you as part of my family. Dearest Bella. We’d never allow anything to happen to you, sweetheart. You know that. Please don’t be anxious. It’s going to be fine, Bella. Perhaps we’re looking at this the wrong way. Maybe it’s a coincidence. I don’t mean a coincidence that a stranger happened to pick Bella’s house to visit at random. I meant that maybe that someone was curious. Our scent is all around her. Was he wondering what draws us there? You would. The rest of us aren’t always so direct. Our family is very large — he or she might be frightened. But Charlie wasn’t harmed. This doesn’t have to be an enemy. Hardly, Bella. And nothing will happen to Charlie. We’re just going to have to be more careful. And all those innocent humans in Seattle. It’s not right to let them die this way. Bella, honey? Can you hear me? You’re safe now, dear."—Esme Cullen Max’s Voice Quotes “I knew you’d come. I’ve got big plans for you. Playing is learning, Max. Games test your abilities. Fun is crucial to human development. Go have fun, Max. Get on the Madison Avenue bus. Get off where it looks like fun. It’s just a toy, Max. Kids deserve toys. Don’t you think you deserve a toy too? I’m sorry it hurts sometimes, Max. I don’t want to hurt you. I want to help you. All in good time, Max. You need to learn how to relax. Relaxation facilitates learning and communication. Studies have shown it. But you’re not relaxing. Just one voice, Max. Not voices. Calm down. You can use it if you can figure out the password. You never know until you know. It’s okay, Max. You can use it. Once you get the password. Don’t borrow trouble, Max. Worry is unproductive. You can’t control what happens to Angel. You can save the world, but the only thing you can control is you. Go to sleep, Max. It’s time to learn. Time to learn. This is on a need-to-know basis, Max. You need to know. Not weird, Max. Divine. And brilliant. You six are works of art. Enjoy it. Come one, Max. You and I both know that isn’t true. A regular family and a regular life would bore you to tears. What do you wish you could do, Max? If you could do anything? Maybe you would want to be able to save the world. Did you ever think of that? But grown-ups are the ones destroying the world. Think about it. Don’t think about what has to be, Max. Think about what is. Yes, Max, you are going to die. Just like everybody else. When are you going to trust me, Max? When are you going to trust yourself? You’re on your own now, Max. See you later. There you go, Max. That’s the difference between you and Fang. Is it important to be right or do what’s right? That’s one of the hardest lessons to learn. Plan ahead, Max. Think it out. Think on your feet. That’s more than three questions, Max. And sometimes whether someone is your friend or enemy is all in how you look at it. But if you must know. I consider myself you friend, a good friend who loves you very much. No one loves you more than I do, Maximum. Now listen. I ask the questions, not you. You’re just here, chuckle for the ride. For incredible, indescribable, Maximum Ride. Knowledge is a terrible burden, Max. It’s a two-edged sword. It might help you, but it might put in danger greater than anything you’ve faced so far. Max—you have a bigger mission than finding the flock’s parents. Focus on helping the whole world, not just your friends. You had to do it, Max. You’re still working toward the greater good. And nothing can interfere with that. Nothing can interfere with your mission to save the world. Optimism is overrated, Max. It’s better to face reality head-on. Split up, Max. Think 3-D. Max? Size isn’t everything. Nudge. And Iggy. Take a deep breath, Max. Stop the bleeding. Stop the bleeding. Put pressure on it. Press the cloth over it and lean on the wounds with both hands. Elevate his feet. You have to respect you enemy, Max. Never, ever underestimate them. The second you do, they’ll squash you. Be smart about them. Respect their abilities, even if they don’t respect yours. You chose to stay with Fang. Family is extremely important. Didn’t you tell me that once? Respect and honor your enemies. Always. Know your friends well; know your enemies even better. Your greatest strength is your greatest weakness, Max. Your hatred of Erasers gives you the power to fight to the death. But that hatred also blinds you the big picture: the big picture of them, of you, of everything in your life. So glad you’re having fun, Maximum. While the world burns. You do fit into it, Max. You’re part of everything and everything is part of you. Everything should flow together. The more you resist, the more pain you’ll feel. The more you go with the flow, the more whole you’ll be. Don’t resist the flow, Max. Become one with the flow. Asunción. Inhabited principally by the Guarani. Explored by Europeans starting in 1518. Paraguay is a land-locked country in South America. Population, six million and change— Maybe you have feelings for him. You can’t still stay children forever. People grow up, have kids of their own. Think about it. Watch it! Go with the flow. Max—focus! Believe what you know, not what you see. Go with the flow, Max. Max, you need to stay focused. If you’re going to Florida, go to Florida. Pick a goal and follow it through. When you’re saving the world, you can’t exactly take commercial breaks. Max, you’re acting a child. You’re above rebelling against your fate just to rebel. You’ve got a date with destiny. Don’t be late. Max, sooner or later, you have to take this seriously. If it was just your life, no one would care if you bothered. But we’re talking about saving everyone’s lives. By existing. By being strong. By lasting. Yes, that would be cruel. You might not want to know. Are you sure you want to know? You’re in an isolation tank. A sensory-deprivation chamber. I don’t know where, exactly. Think, Max. What is they want from you? What would happen if you took that away from them? Think about it. You’re afraid of them. Fear is your weakness. You must conquer all your weaknesses. Good, Max. Keep your eyes on the prize. Excellent, Max. Sometimes you amaze me. Connections are important, Max. You were doing pretty well on your own. Everyone is always alone, Max. That’s why connections are important. Connections, Max. Remember your dream? No. Your dream that the Erasers are chasing you and you run through the woods until you come to a ledge. Then you fall off the ledge but start flying. And escape. This canyon is very much like your dream. It’s as if you’ve come full circle. Connections. Putting it all together. Your dream, Fang’s laptop, people you’ve met, places you’ve been, Itex, the School, the Institute. Isn’t it all connected? You’ll see. You’ll figure it out. Before it’s too late. They’re dead, Max. They’ve all been...retired. Dead. They’ve been retired. All around the world, every branch of the organization has been terminating their recombinant-DNA experiments. You’re among the only ones left. And they’re coming for you. Tsk-tsk. You guys are crazy about each other. Maybe he really does just want to talk. Max, you’re making a serious mistake. Get up and get out of here right now. Get back to your mission. I’m very serious about this. Max. Max, I forbid you to take out the chip. Too late for that, Max. Only you can help yourself now. Everything’s part of the big picture, Max. All you have to do is put the pieces together. Sometimes all you have is instinct, a gut feeling. It’s important to pay attention to it. Hello, Maximum. I’m glad you’re okay. I’ve missed talking with you. Now I’m back. Have you thought about your choices lately, Max? Are you making choices for the greater good or just for yourself? Stopping it is your job, Max. You both have hard decisions to make, Max. Decisions that will affect the whole world, your future. Everyone’s future. Go to Europe. England, first. Start with England. Look for Schools. Go to Washington D.C. There’s a direct flight from Dulles. Exactly like. Right down to the shiny silver outside. You’ll be fine. Go to Europe. England, first. Start with England. Look for Schools. Go to Washington D.C. There’s a direct flight from Dulles. Exactly like. Right down to the shiny silver outside. You’ll be fine. You know, when you’re right, that’s all you get to be. Yes, you should pursue your mission. But you haven’t learned how to balance your leadership. You have to lead, but you must also listen. Max, they’re children. They’re just along for the ride. A strong leader can bend sometimes. Remember the Hydra, Max? No. The Lernaean Hydra, one of the labors of Heracles. Every time Heracles cut off a head, two grew back in it’s place. Think it through, Max. It’ll come to you. The Hydra itself must be killed. The whole thing at once. This is just one head. Find the body and kill it. I couldn’t have said it better myself, Max. You’re where you need to be, doing what you need to do. But are you sure you can do this alone? You’re missing half your family. Who are also half your army. Does that mean it’s not your problem and you don’t have to fix it? You need the rest of the flock. You need more fighters on your side. Get them back. Max, you have to trust me. You were created to save the world. You still can. Max. Max. You’ve come a long way, Max. You’re almost home. Everything will work out, but you have to do your best. And you have to trust me again. Max — you’re still here to save the world. That’s what you born for, that’s point of everything, all of this. No one else can do it. I believe that with all my heart. This isn’t a test and I’m not snowing you. You have to do this. Nothing in the history of mankind has ever been more important. Nothing. Ever. Ever. That isn’t you, Max. No. Because that’s not you who are as a person. No one designed it. It’s all you. You’re just not a killer. You’ve shown that again and again. And it makes me prouder than anything else about you. Okay, Max. This meeting is very important, so no funny business. Just remember your mission, keep your mind open, and listen to what they have to say. I’m not Jeb. You were wrong about that. You have part of the picture, Max. Not all of the picture. Sometimes when you’re at you most certain, that’s when everything you know is wrong. You’re making progress. You’re a couple steps ahead. But Max, you’re mostly human. MAX, FLY TO THESE COORDINATES. Your mom is waiting for you. You’re off course. Correct by three degrees, south-southwest. It’s okay, Max. This is part of the bigger picture. You’re being used, but for good this time. I knew there was something strange about that dog. Max? I know you’re in the middle of something here, and I hate to interrupt, but there’s another mission for you. Max, Max, Max. The world isn’t saved yet, is it? You’ve got work to do. Now, get out of there, and I’ll give you the coordinates of where you need to go. He’s your soulmate. Your mind creates your reality. If you expect nothing, you open up the universe to give you options. If you expect the worst, you usually get it. Max. Go lie down. You’re having a panic attack. You’re having a panic attack. Go lie down on your bunk and slowly breathe in and out. You’re okay. Go lie down. There’s plenty of air. And you’ve got to start paying more attention to her. And to what she’s saying. Get a move on, Max. The birds are working. The birds are working. The birds are working. They’re working to help us. Beware of Mr. Chu. And maybe Brigid.”—The Voice. I promise to remember Elphaba whenever I see something green My Wicked Theory regarding Elphaba’s Downfall I concluded this, so pm me if you want to copy and paste it. “Okay. This is just my theory. At the beginning of the second act of Wicked, Elphaba returns home for the first time in months or years and begs Nessa for help. Elphaba asks Nessa to intercede on her behalf to their father, but Nessa refuses and rather than give her sister a chance to recover, drops the bombshell that their father is dead, claiming that he was embarrassed to death and died of shame, because of Elphaba’s actions. Then Elphaba says she’s glad he’s dead, and Nessa says her reaction is Wicked. Elphaba doesn’t seem to care and then rushes to tell Nessa that she can help Elphaba instead. Nessa loses it and tells her sister to shut up and that she can’t help her. Nessa also claims that she can’t hide a fugitive, citing her role as an ‘unelected official.’ Nessa wants a reason to help her sister, forgetting everything that Elphaba had done for her, without any reason, except possibly because she had to care for Nessa. Accusing her sister of abandoning her, Nessa confesses of wanting to be able to walk. Feeling guilty, Elphaba enchants Nessa’s shoes, creating the ruby slippers. Nessa calls Boq into the room to celebrate with him, only learn that he wants to tell Glinda that he still loves her. Angry, Nessa tries to cast a spell to get Boq to fall in love with her—that’s what she meant when she said, ‘You’ll lose your heart to me, I tell you, if I have to...I have to magic spell you’—tries using the Grimmerie, only to miscast it. She begs her sister to reverse the spell, who merely says, ‘You can’t reverse a spell once it’s been cast.’ Nessa loses it and begs her sister to do something. Elphaba finally gets angry with Nessa and snarls, ‘Hush, will you?’ Elphaba hopes it will get her sister to shut up. Elphaba turns Boq into the Tinman and Nessa accepts that she truly is the Wicked of the East—‘SAVE HIM, PLEASE JUST SAVE HIM. MY POOR BOQ, MY SWEET, MY BRAVE HIM. DON’T LEAVE ME ‘TIL MY SORRY LIFE HAS CEASED. ALONE AND LOVELESS HERE—WITH JUST THE GIRL IN THE MIRROR—HER AND ME—THE WICKED WITCH OF THE EAST. WE DESERVE EACH OTHER.’ When Nessa challenges her sister’s motives for returning to the Emerald City after Elphaba claims she wants to free the winged monkeys that she’d accidentally created, Elphaba realizes that her sister will never help her. Then Nessa decides she may want to help her sister, but Elphaba is already too far convinced that Nessa won’t help her. Nessa tries to convince her sister that she wants to help her, but only reveals that at heart, she is still just a child. Elphaba tells her sister, ‘Nessa, I’ve done all I could for you, but it hasn’t been enough, and NOTHING EVER WILL BE!’ Nessa then blames Boq’s transformation into the Tinman on her sister, denying that she had anything to do with it. Elphaba and Fiyero run off together, hurting Glinda, and even though she’s hurt her best friend Elphaba is happy, because for the first time, she has love. Then Nessa dies, and Glinda gives the ruby slippers to Dorothy. This is enrages Elphaba and the two friends fight over both whether Glinda had the right to give the shoes to Dorothy and who should be with Fiyero. Then the Gale Force arrive and grab Elphaba. That angers her further. Then Fiyero arrives and he and Glinda tell Elphaba to leave. Fiyero is captured and taken to be beaten in the nearby cornfield until he confesses where Elphaba is hiding. He refuses to talk, and Elphaba struggles to save him. Thinking she’s failed to save him, Elphaba concludes that ‘no good deed goes unpunished. No act of charity goes unresented. All helpful urges should be circumvented.’ She vows to never again do a good deed. She kidnaps Dorothy, but by then she’s lost her senses, and she doesn’t know who she is. When Glinda confronts her, Elphaba merely shrugs off the kidnapping, claiming, ‘I’m the Wicked Witch of the West. I can do what I want.’ Then the Witch Hunters show up and Elphaba is ‘melted’ by Dorothy. That’s my theory.” WICKED fanfiction quotes “You’re going to work with original characters?” Elphaba spat the word ‘original’. “Oh, I am so through with original characters!” Glinda said. “Fiyeraba was a right little shrew!” “Hey!” Elphaba and Fiyero said together, the best representation Fiyeraba could get in the ‘canon’ section of the Lost’s mind. -- Elphaba, Fiyero, and Glinda, Occupational Dilemma, by LostOzian It’s a disease!” Glinda whispered ominously. “We mean no harm!” Fiyero screamed girlishly. “No! Bad! Whenever you show up, it means my sexuality is in question!” Fiyero said accusingly. “And it’s all because of you!” Fiyero said again, sounding about to cry. “Who’re you calling an Oz-freak?” Elphaba said darkly. “I’m not technically an Oz-freak…” The Wizard said ambiguously. “Wait!” Fiyero said. “I demand terms to my cooperation.” One- I am a heterosexual male. This will not be debated by anyone.” “We gotta get those bohos out of here,” Boq whispered. “Elphaba and Fiyero are playing contract, so that leaves three of us against eight of them.” “Two- the same terms apply to Elphaba in the fact she is a heterosexual female.” Fiyero said. “What about me?” the Wizard said in his best conspiracy-voice. “You’re creepy,” Glinda told him. “That’s okay. Really, all I want is to know for sure that she’s female.” Fiyero said. “So what? I can help,” the Wizard said. “Fine, on three…” Boq said. “One…” “All right then, I’m in,” Fiyero said. “Me, too,” Elphaba said. “Two…” Boq continued. “NO!” Elphaba screamed. “MY private fantasy land reserved for M-rated scenes of Fiyero and I! Get them out of there!” "I'm just glad she isn't pairing me with Boq anymore," Elphaba said ruefully. That was so disgusting when she did that in 'Guilty Pleasures', and then again in 'Tango: Elphie'. Fiyero had refused to talk to her for a week after that was posted. “Not roses!” Glinda exclaimed. “Roses are mine!” “Poppies are mine!” Elphaba declared, just to make sure the Lost didn’t use her signature flower in Nessa’s little date. Poppies ruled. “Heck no!” Glinda said, deeply offended. “Fiyero and I forever!” “Hello? Taken?” Fiyero scorned. “I’m with Elphaba.” “Good old Yero,” Elphaba said fondly. Fiyero chuckled slightly, giving the Lost a hint of a good Fiyeraba scene to write. Just, not now. “Hey everybody!” He said energetically. “What’d I miss?” “The Lost is hitting herself over the head with a cheap modern broom while screaming ‘Defying Gravity’.” Elphaba currently had the strongest connection with the Lost, and was able to tell to some extent what she was doing. It was usually either her or Nessa, but occasionally Glinda had a turn. That hadn't come up recently, due to the fact she had a friend that would make a much better Glinda than she would. “Oh,” the Wizard said, considerably less energetically. “So I guess she’s not writing today.” “No, now she’s searching for chocolate and a cleaver.” Elphaba added nonchalantly. “Is that even healthy?” Fiyero asked worriedly. “What, the chocolate or the cleaver?” Boq said. “Well…both.” Fiyero said. "I feel like the Big Bad Wolf in front of Little Red Riding Hood." "Wrong fairy tale. I’m the Witch. Can’t you tell?" “Five bucks says a tornado was involved somehow!” Fiyero cried, waving a dollar-bill in the air. “I now pronounce you husband and wife.” the priest smiled, “You may now--” Fiyero didn’t wait for him to finish his sentence. He lifted Elphaba’s veil gently and then pulled her to him and kissed her passionately. Her arms went around his neck and his circled her waist. The crowd cheered. They heard James’ voice in the background. “Don’t you two ever breathe?” he was asking. Elphaba and Fiyero pulled apart and laughed and then brushed each other’s tears away at the same time. Elphaba lay on her bed, feet on her pillow and head by the foot, pretending to be reading a book, even though Glinda wasn’t back yet. Yes, she had promised Fiyero she would sleep, but she had to find out what Glinda thought about seeing Fiyero on a date with a guy, and was pretty sure Glinda would wake her up to tell her about it anyway. She had sufficiently hidden her Raphablo costume; the suit (Glinda would cringe) folded into the top hat’s box with the hat itself, the shoes hidden at the bottom of the box of her knickknacks. Oh, that went far better than expected, in spite of Glinda’s numerous attempts to prove Fiyero wasn’t gay. Which he wasn’t, Elphaba thought. He was with me the whole time. She heard voices out in the hallway, and put a little more effort in pretending to read. “Dead? WHAT?!” Galinda yelled, “Elphie was DEAD and you didn’t tell ME?!” “Well I was a little busy grieving.” Fiyero snapped. “But I’M her best friend, if anyone gets to know when she dies, it should be ME!” Galinda whined. “Hey now, I’m her sister.” said Nessa, “I should have known. Elphaba, how could you tell Fiyero before your own sister that you were dead? What, is he more important than me?” “Of course he is!” Galinda snapped at her and Nessa huffed. Elphaba looked at them in shock. “Really, I die and you guys are fighting over who found out first?! If I were dead, I wouldn’t be able to TELL you anything!” she said incredulously. That’s really what scandalacious was, another word for interesting. Something that made you perk up and pay attention. Something that boggled your mind. And that’s the kind of scandalacious I was made for, Elphaba thought, slipping off the window seat as terrible inspiration struck. If there was any day to pretend to abide by Glinda’s idiotic fashion rules, it was today. Fiyero couldn’t stand being ignored any longer. It was the Monday after he had been discovered, and whispers followed Fiyero wherever he went. Only three facts kept reoccuring: Glinda and he had broken up, Fiyero had been seen in girl's clothing, and Elphaba was somehow involved. Three days after the incident, Elphaba was still avoiding him, and it hurt. With a determination he had only felt once before- ironically, the moment he had decided to dress as a girl to make Elphaba love him- he entered the library. He wouldn’t let her get away from him this time. As the animal ran away, an important question crossed Maureen’s mind. Without taking her eyes from Morrible she asked, “Faba? Please tell me I looked a little better than that when I landed. Did I?” Her only answer was a shrug from her sister. That did it. “Guys,” Maureen called to the Monkeys near them, “Lessons on landing later, please? Please?!” Chistery spoke up from his place on Elphaba’s other side. “Yes…today…before you’re hurt!” Morrible was on her feet again. As afraid as she was, her nature won out, and her nature was to be cruel. “Poor little witch! You can’t even land a broom?! You were better off without her, Elphaba. At least then you only had that simpering blonde at your heels. I did you a favor when I rid you of this one! She’s a useless runt, Elphaba. She’ll never be as powerful as you, never have the promise you have… never be as adept as me!” Elphaba’s eyes were cold and stormy. For the first time since she’d met her sister, Maureen felt what it was like to be truly afraid of Elphaba and her power. She heard Elphaba answer, soft but deadly, “You wish!” Glinda's coddeling was enough to drive anyone batty, and Elphaba was already close to the edge. So she didn't feel too guilty about disapearing from the dorm room three days later and walking the grounds. He merely leaned his head on Elphaba’s shoulder, careful not to tip the hat, wondering why Elphaba had to be so sadistic to the poor Munchkin Yero! I can walk now, you know!” She was insistent but Fiyero had a surprise for her. “I know, love. But tell me, which way would you rather expend your energy? Walking all the way up to our bedroom, or in our bedroom?” His meaning was unmistakable. With a sensual smile, Elphaba let her body relax against him. “In, please, Yero.” “As you wish, love, it will be more than my pleasure.” They moved upstairs that way. Along the way they passed guards and courtiers and servants but none of them thought twice. They had grown used to the Prince carrying his injured wife about. When they reached their bedroom, Fiyero turned and watched as Elphaba locked the door. He helped her remove her gown, carefully; very carefully as her arm was still healing and when he laid her on the bed, he saw how her eyes followed him almost hungrily. When he joined her though, he moved over her body gently. This loving would be sure and passionate but supremely gentle. Fiyero was more than aware of her injury and how close he had come to losing her. It made their loving sweeter somehow, more precious. Later, as they lay nestled together they both knew they had been granted a great gift from some Higher Power…more time. The day after she first awoke, she watched an exhausted Fiyero sleeping soundly beside her. Rather than disturb him, she tried very carefully to get up on her own. Her legs felt like quoxberry jelly and she was more than a little lightheaded. She made it about halfway across the room. It was then that she ran out of furniture to lean on. Two steps farther brought her excursion to a screeching halt. Her legs gave out and with her head spinning; she fell to the floor in a very unladylike manner. The thump, of course, awakened Fiyero who bolted from bed at the sight of his Fae in a heap on the rug. Fiyero would later joke that he almost had to tie her down because she was so restless and insistent on beginning her work with Zara. Glinda rubbed her eyes a few times, wondering who would have the nerve to kidnap Elphaba and greenify themselves in order to pull a trick like this. Galinda gasped audibly at the sight. “Oh, Elphie!” she cried, dropping to her knees and flinging aside the books that were swamping her roommate. “I knew this would happen someday! When are you going to learn that magazines are the only safe reading material there is??” “Yero, this is it! This is the... the portal, the portal to the Wizard’s world, it makes so much sense now...” she pulled away from his arm – he grabbed his shoulder to keep the seams together – and started pacing in front of the fountain. Then she turned towards the scarecrow and grinned. “Fancy swimming?” she beamed and spread her arms and fell backwards off the edge of the fountain, into its roaring waters. “Elphaba!” the scarecrow ran to the fountain, but there was no sign of his green skinned lover. “Elphaba!” his voice echoed off the stone of the fountain walls. “You are so lucky I love you,” he muttered before closing his eyes and diving into the water that never actually came... Fiyero came up behind her, narrowing his eyes determinedly. He bent down, slowly prying the book out of the girl’s green hand. “NO!!” she cried wildly, wrenching it back from him. She began flipping through the pages again. “Pixie dust, toadstools, where do you find…?” “You find it at the liquor store, next to the stoli,” Fiyero said sardonically, yanking the book away again. “Now what is wrong with you?” Elphaba eyed him fearfully. “Give it back,” she pleaded, pulling herself up and sitting cross-legged. She began to rock. “Need to study…have to pass… TOTOs…tomorrow…the TOTOs….no future, no future…” Her face immediately darkened, twisting itself to re-purse her lips and to re-narrow her eyes. She turned to give Fiyero such a look he squirmed in his seat and instantly dropped the pencil he had been using as a drum-stick. Her eyes still didn’t leave him, daring him to do it again...damn she was good at sending mental messages! “We’ll find them, Chis. We’ll find them, and Lurline protect whoever took them from us. I’ll show them what a wicked witch can do!” She was pulling Elphaba along with her, The blonde emerged from one of the rooms in the hallway which had housed the wounded. “Yeah, Mo? Ooh! Elphie, you’re back! Are you okay?” Glinda rushed over to the sisters, looking Elphaba over for anything wrong with her. “I’m fine, Glinda.” The green witch replied. Elphaba cut her sister off before she could get the word out. “Everyone’s okay, Glinda. Yero and Emrys should be joining us soon.” Glinda looked a bit confused, looking back and forth between Maureen and Elphaba. “Wait, Mo, what were you saying? What aren’t you telling me, Elphie?” “I’ll tell you as soon as Fiyero gets here. He deserves to be here too when I tell you.” “I’m pregnant, Glinda.” Glinda let out a high-pitched squeal as she launched herself at the green woman. “Elphie! I’m so happy for you! And Fiyero too! Did you just find out?” Glinda followed her, fussing with her purse, and looked up just in time to see Elphaba kiss Fiyero. It wasn’t anything deep and passionate; almost like she was saying hello. Glinda gave an audible gasp. Something along the lines of ‘What’s she up to now?’ ran through Fiyero’s head. Elphaba broke, glancing her eyes toward Glinda behind her and raising her eyebrows. I get it… Fiyero thought as he took Elphaba’s hand and started off down the hallway. She’s messing with Glinda. Glinda didn’t follow, staring at the place where they had kissed as if someone had frozen her to the spot. “So, kissing the supposedly gay prince the day after he gets a new boyfriend,” Elphaba said quietly so her voice wouldn’t carry. “What’s that on the scandalacious scale of life?” “Um…Pretty close to a ten,” Fiyero said. “Though what’s making you feel scandalacious today?” “Well, you and Glinda have far more fun than I do,” Elphaba said. “So I’m adding my own brand of tabloid-shaking gossip to the mix.” “And how are you doing that?” Fiyero asked. “I confuse people,” she said, starting to mimic one of Glinda’s posse. “What’s suddenly got Artichoke dressing up? Wait, she kissed Fiyero? Wait, she doesn’t care he’s got a boyfriend?!” “Well, since you brought up Raphie, what are we going to say to people who ask about him?” Elphaba smiled up at him. “I’ve got the story all figured out,” she said. “Just listen carefully.” Let me tell you, my imagination is not always my friend! “Not toto,” she said slowly. “TOTO- Tests of Terrible Ominousness? They’re worth ninety-five percent of your overall grade! And if I you don’t get at least a 6,000 on the written part, you have to spend the first twenty years after you graduate laying yellow bricks!! 5,000 and you don’t even get out of school and have to lay the red bricks!!” “I always wondered why those were so uneven,” Fiyero mused. He shook his head, getting back to the issue at hand. “But come on, Elphie. Relaxify. You’re the smartest person at Shiz, you don’t have to-“ Little Voice gave an audible “humph.” You’ve been repressing your inner ditz since you were four, it has to express itself somehow,” it replied snippily. Elphaba nodded. “She’s on to us,” she repeated. “You do know this is Glinda we’re talking about-” “Well, she has Boq for help. He’s only half-idiot. I’m pretty sure Raphablo is going to be grilled about his relationship to me after Glinda apologizes.” Fiyero looked off at where Glinda had gone. “So what are we going to do about it?” he asked. “We can throw them for one last loop, and then they’ll find out.” Elphaba said. “Now, do you still have the Ritiga wig?” -You now want to throw a brick at your TV every time you watch The Wizard of Oz and Elphaba is melted, but you tell yourself it's all an illusion and she's going to escape with Fiyero, so it's OK. -While looking for colleges the first one on your list was Shiz. -When making your Christmas Wish List, all you do is write the URL link to the Ozdust Boutique and send it to everyone you know. -You plan to be in Wicked, and if you get there and find that you’re just not good enough then you think that you can move those darn sets. -Before you reply to anything you think "what would Elphaba say?" -You find yourself singing I’m Not That Girl, when you feel that you’re just not that girl. -You tried to write your history paper on "The Great Drought and it's Effect on Animals in Society" -If someone who hates you calles you a witch, you take it as a compliment. -You get good grades because you tell yourself, "Elphie would pay attention in class, so I guess I have to." or "Elphie would be studying, not goofing off, so I probably should, too." -You got upset when you found out you couldn't take Gillikinese, Vinkan, or Qua'ati for your second language class. -You find yourself saying things like , "Oh, my Oz!" or "Sweet Lurline!" or "Oz-forsaken", or even "Son of a Munchkin" in public, and get really wierd looks for it. -You wish you had a Goat teacher like Doctor Dillamond. -Someone asks you, "If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?" and you answer Oz. -You own a stuffed monkey named Chistery (yeah...) -Cinderella's Castle? He lifted Elphaba’s veil gently and then pulled her to him and kissed her passionately. Her arms went around his neck and his circled her waist. The crowd cheered. They heard James’ voice in the background. “Don’t you two ever breathe?” he was asking. Elphaba and Fiyero pulled apart and laughed and then brushed each other’s tears away at the same time. -- Priest and James, Chapter 42, He's A She?, by Wicked'elphaba-fiyero Elphaba lay on her bed, feet on her pillow and head by the foot, pretending to be reading a book, even though Glinda wasn’t back yet. -- Scandalacious Princess, Chapter 12, by LostOzian “Dead? James stood up and Elphaba gave him an exasperated look that read: you too?! --Galinda, Fiyero, Nessa, and Elphaba, He's A She?, Chapter 39, by Wicked'elphaba-fiyero That’s really what scandalacious was, another word for interesting. -- Scandalacious Princess, Chapter 13, by LostOzian Fiyero couldn’t stand being ignored any longer. -- Scandalacious Princess, Chapter 9, by LostOzian As the animal ran away, an important question crossed Maureen’s mind. She heard Elphaba answer, soft but deadly, “You wish!” -- Maureen, Chistery, Morrible, Elphaba, If You Fear the Storm Ahead, Chapter 38, by BreathOfMidnightAir Glinda's coddeling was enough to drive anyone batty, and Elphaba was already close to the edge. So she didn't feel too guilty about disapearing from the dorm room three days later and walking the grounds. -- Seeing Is Decieving, Chapter 5, by Tiggy the Hopeless Romantic “Mark, put the camera down.” said Maureen, “Do you really want to be the man behind the camera for the rest of your life? Filming other people’s life’s makes you miss out on your own.” “But I--” Mark began. “I know, filming is your passion,” said Maureen smiling at him, “But there’s a difference between filming out of passion and hiding behind your camera. You’re going to miss your chance if you stay behind the whole time.” “What chance?” asked Mark stupidly. “You’re so funny,” said Maureen, poking his nose, “You’ve been staring at her the whole night.” “El—Elphaba?” asked Mark. “Go on,” said Maureen, “I’ll watch your camera.” she took his camera gently out of his grasp. He smiled sheepishly and went to Elphaba. He cocked his head at the door. She looked at him curiously, but got off of Collin’s lap and followed him. Galinda watched them go, a secret smile on her face, she giggled before returning to her argument with Roger about the awesomeness of pink. She hated him, but she loved to fight with him. --Mark and Maureen, Remember Me?, Chapter 5, by Wicked'elphaba-fiyero He merely leaned his head on Elphaba’s shoulder, careful not to tip the hat, wondering why Elphaba had to be so sadistic to the poor Munchkin. -- Scandalacious Princess, Chapter 11, by LostOzian “Yero! -- Fiyero and Elphaba, Swept Across the Storm, Chapter 25, by BreathOfMidnightAir The day after she first awoke, she watched an exhausted Fiyero sleeping soundly beside her. -- Swept Across the Storm, Chapter 25, by BreathOfMidnightAir Fiyero would later joke that he almost had to tie her down because she was so restless and insistent on beginning her work with Zara. -- Swept Across the Storm, Chapter 25, by BreathOfMidnightAir Glinda rubbed her eyes a few times, wondering who would have the nerve to kidnap Elphaba and greenify themselves in order to pull a trick like this. -- Scandalacious Princess, Chapter 13, by LostOzian Galinda gasped audibly at the sight. “Oh, Elphie!” she cried, dropping to her knees and flinging aside the books that were swamping her roommate. “I knew this would happen someday! He deserves to be here too when I tell you.” Maureen rolled her eyes. “Just tell her already!” As if on cue, Fiyero and Emrys caught up to them in the hallway. “Okay, Fiyero’s here, so…” Maureen edged. “I’m pregnant, Glinda.” Glinda let out a high-pitched squeal as she launched herself at the green woman. “Elphie! I’m so happy for you! And Fiyero too! Did you just find out?” -- Maureen, Elphaba, Glinda, If You Fear the Storm Ahead, Chapter 40, by BreathOfMidnightAir Glinda followed her, fussing with her purse, and looked up just in time to see Elphaba kiss Fiyero. “Just listen carefully.” -- Fiyero and Elphaba, Scandalacious Princess, Chapter 13, by LostOzian Let me tell you, my imagination is not always my friend! -- Fiyero, Swept Across the Storm, Chapter 25, by BreathOfMidnightAir “Not toto,” she said slowly. “TOTO- Tests of Terrible Ominousness? Elphaba nodded. “She’s on to us,” she repeated. “You do know this is Glinda we’re talking about-” “Well, she has Boq for help. He’s only half-idiot. I’m pretty sure Raphablo is going to be grilled about his relationship to me after Glinda apologizes.” Fiyero looked off at where Glinda had gone. “So what are we going to do about it?” he asked. “We can throw them for one last loop, and then they’ll find out.” Elphaba said. “Now, do you still have the Ritiga wig?” -- Elphie and Yero, Scandalacious Princess, Chapter 15, by LostOzian It was then that I decided if there was ever in the middle of a war or life-or-death situation, I definitely called dibbs on Elphaba. -Shanny, Intelligent Insults, Chapter 12, by Cohen101 “Glinda…” Elphaba’s voice nudged Glinda’s sleep, said roommate’s hand doing the same to her body. “Glinda, I need you to get up.” “Elphie, quit it…” Glinda moaned, rolling away from Elphaba. “Well, if you won’t get up, at least tell me something.” Glinda screwed up her face. Why did Elphie want her to think so early in the morning? “Which matches best to my skin tone, light blue or purple?” Glinda sighed. An easy one. “Elphie, how many times must I tell you, bright purples are unflatterifying to medium greens…” Glinda practically said in her sleep, before registering the question. She forced her eyes open, sitting up best she could. Elphaba was standing with Glinda’s closet open, scanning through the blouses, skirts, and dresses. “Elphie?” Glinda asked, just to make sure it was her roommate. Elphaba seemed just as at ease in the closet as Glinda had seen her in a library, looking for some horrendible book to bury her face in. Elphaba turned to her mildly, looking the same as ever; black braid, green skin. Unmistakably Elphie. “Elphie, are you feeling all right?” “Yeah, fine,” Elphaba said lightly, selecting a pleated Shiz uniform skirt with a white trim. She held it and a rather simple sky blue blouse up against her nightgown and looked to Glinda for approval. “Yes? No?” Elphaba asked. Glinda rubbed her eyes a few times, wondering who would have the nerve to kidnap Elphaba and greenify themselves in order to pull a trick like this. “Y-yes,” Glinda said. “But why?!” “Because we have a lecture in about, oh, an hour,” Elphaba said, as if this was reason enough for her to be (compared to what she usually wore) dressing up. “Come on, I let you oversleep a little. You might not have enough time to be fully made up.” I have got to do something about that weak point of mine, Glinda thought miserably as she rolled out of bed to get dressed and prettier-ified. It was like what she had expected getting ready with her best friend of a roommate to be like, but nothing like what getting up with Elphaba was like. Glinda couldn’t stop herself from gawking; Elphaba got dressed in Glinda’s clothes without complaint, snide comments, or retaliation of any kind. If Glinda hadn’t known better, she would have thought it was of Elphaba’s own accord. She took her hair out of its vicious braid and spent at least five minutes brushing it out until it was a silky curtain of black. She barely spoke, mostly keeping to herself, asking Glinda once if she could borrow a pair of sandals. “I remember you set the rule, boots with skirts aren’t a good idea, though I’ve never owned anything but boots, so it was hard for me to follow it,” she said. Glinda’s jaw had dropped several inches. Somehow, Glinda managed to dress and makeup herself as well. (Elphaba even put on the small makeup trinkets Glinda shared with her- mascara, an eyeliner pencil, and the strange green lipstick Glinda found for a costume party- causing Glinda to stop and stare for a minute.) “Ready?” Elphaba asked. She had placed her books in a messenger bag rather than her usual carry-by-hand and slung it over one shoulder, letting it hang by her side rather than cross her chest. Another very un-Elphaba thing. “Elphie, are you feeling all right?” Glinda asked for the eighth time that morning. Elphaba gave a small smile. “Is there any reason I shouldn’t?” she said. Glinda looked Elphaba over; for about the second time in her life, she was truly beautiful. “Because I feel great.” “Any reason you feel great?” Glinda asked worriedly. She might need to get an intervention together. She had read about them; a gathering of people who supported a friend to attempt to get them back to normal. "Augh! I can't stand that prissy little brat! She wouldn't give me two minutes to unpack my stuff without throwing a fuss about how ugly I was!! I hate her!!" She slammed her fists on the desk, and immediately flames appeared, nearly scorching her book. Liiku swore loudly and started stomping out the flames. Elphaba was doing the same, and soon, the fire was out. A small scorch mark on the desk was all that remained. Liiku stared at the burn. "So . . . you really are a witch," he murmured. "I guess so," she said. Liiku grabbed the collar of her jacket. "If you ever do something as stupid or careless as that again, I'll kick your scrawny green ass!" Elphaba shoved him away. "Watch it or I'll incinerate you." "Like you could do that again on will," Liiku said. Elphaba folded her arms across her chest. "Hey, at least I can do something." Everything Is Not What It Seems Speeches My character, Madison Tiffany-Crystal’s first speech, given right before leaving the Emerald City to kill the Wicked Witch of the West, in my story: Everything Is Not What It Seems, and defending her instead of attacking her so-called ‘Wickedness’ “I want to do good for Oz, by stopping the Wicked Witch of the West. But how do you know she is really Wicked? Let me read you something from one of my favorite books, Maximum Ride: The Angel Experiment. ‘“Let me tell you a secret, old pal, old chap,” Ari yelled at me. You’ve got it all wrong. We’re the good guys!”’ You see, sometimes things aren’t what they appear. Look at the Cullens. Their cousin, Irina, mistook the youngest, Renesmee, or Nessie as she’s more commonly called, for an immortal child, a forbidden creation, by one of the rules that made up the law—KEEP THE SECRET—and so she had to tell the Volturi about the Cullens’ illegal creation. Irina paid the price; she died, but the Cullens were innocent. I have another thing I want to read. Hold on, just let me find it. Well, I’m sorry, this isn’t at the beginning of the book like the last quote was. Oh, here it is: Chapter twenty-eight—THE FUTURE. ‘Carlisle and Edward had not been able to catch up with Irina before her trail disappeared into the sound. They’d swum to the other bank to see if her trail had picked up in a straight line, but there was no trace of her for miles in either direction on the eastern shore. It was all my fault. She had come, as Alice had seen to make peace with the Cullens, only to be angered by my camaraderie with Jacob. I wished I’d noticed her earlier, before Jacob phased. I wished we’d gone hunting somewhere else. There wasn’t much to be done. Carlisle had called Tanya with the disappointing news. Tanya and Kate hadn’t seen Irina since they’d decided to come to my wedding, and they were distraught that Irina had come so close and not yet returned home; it wasn’t easy for them to lose their sister, however temporary the separation might be. I wondered if this brought back hard memories of losing their mother so many centuries ago. Alice was able to catch a few glimpses of Irina’s immediate future, nothing too concrete. She wasn’t going back to Denali, as far as Alice could tell. The picture was hazy. All Alice could see was that Irina was visibly upset; she wandered in the snow-swathed wilderness—to the north? To the east?—with a devastated expression. She made no decisions for a new course beyond her directionless grieving. Days passed and, though of course I forgot nothing, Irina and her pain moved to the back of my mind. There were more important things to think of now. I would leave for Italy in just a few days. When I got back, we’d all be off to South America. Every detail had been gone over a hundred times. We would start with the Ticunas, tracing their legends as well as we could at the source. Now that it was accepted that Jacob would come with us, he figured prominently in the plans—it was unlikely that the people who believed in vampires would speak to any of us about their stories. If we dead-ended with the Ticunas, there were many closely related tribes in the area to research. Carlisle had some old friends in the Amazon; if we could find them, they might have information for us, too. Or at least a suggestion as to where else we might find answers. It was unlikely that the Amazon vampires had anything to do with the legends of vampire hybrids themselves, as they were all female. There was no way to know how long our search would take. I hadn’t told Charlie about the longer trip yet, and I stewed about what to say to him while Edward and Carlisle’s discussion went on. How to break the news to him just right? I stared at Renesmee while I debated internally. She was curled up on the sofa, now, her breathing slow with heavy sleep, her tangled curls splayed wildly about her face. Usually, Edward and I took her back to our cottage to put her to bed, but tonight we lingered with the family, he and Carlisle deep in their planning session. Meanwhile Emmett and Jasper were more excited about planning the hunting possibilities. The Amazon offered a chance from our normal quarry. Jaguars and panthers, for example. Emmett had a whim to wrestle with an anaconda. Esme and Rosalie were planning what they would pack. Jacob was off with Sam’s pack, setting things up for his own absence. Alice moved slowly—for her—around the big room, unnecessarily tidying up the immaculate space, straightening Esme’s already perfectly hung garlands. She was recentering Esme’s vases on the console at the moment. I could see from the way her face fluctuated—aware, then blank, then aware again—that she was searching the future. I assumed she was trying to see through the blind spots that Jacob and Renesmee made in her visions as to what was waiting for us in South America until Jasper said, “Let it go, Alice; she’s not our concern,” and a cloud of serenity stole silently and invisibly through the room. Alice must have been worrying about Irina again. She stuck her tongue out at Jasper and then lifted one crystal vase that was filled with white and red roses and headed toward the kitchen. There was just the barest hint of wilt to one of the white flowers, but Alice seemed intent on utter perfection as a distraction to her lack of vision tonight. Staring at Renesmee again, I didn’t see it when the vase slipped from Alice’s hand. I only heard the whoosh of the air whistling past the crystal and my eyes flickered up in time to see the vase shatter into ten thousand diamond shards against the kitchen floor. We were perfectly still as the fragmented crystal bounced and skittered in every direction with an unmusical tinkling, all eyes on Alice’s back. My first illogical thought was that Alice was playing some joke on us. Because there was no way Alice could have dropped the vase by accident. I could have darted across the room to catch the vase in plenty of time myself, if I hadn’t assumed she would get it. And how would it fall through her fingers in the first place? Her perfectly sure fingers... I had never seen a vampire drop anything by accident. Ever. And then Alice was facing us, twisting in a move so fast it didn’t exist. Her eyes were halfway here and halfway locked on the future, wide, staring, filling her thin face till they seemed to overflow it. Looking into her eyes was like looking out of a grave from the inside; I was buried in the terror and despair and agony of her gaze. I heard Edward gasp; it was a broken, half-choked sound. “What?” Jasper growled, leaping to her side in a blurred rush of movement, crushing the broken crystal under his feet. He grabbed her shoulders and shook her sharply. She seemed to rattle silently in his hands. “What, Alice?” Emmett moved into my peripheral vision, his teeth bared while his eyes darted toward the window, anticipating an attack. There was only silence from Esme, Carlisle, and Rose, who were frozen just as I was. Jasper shook Alice again. “What is it?” “They’re coming for us,” Alice and Edward whispered together, perfectly synchronized. “All of them.” Silence. For once, I was the quickest to understand—because something in their words triggered my own vision. It was only the distant memory of a dream—faint, transparent, indistinct as if I were peering through thick gauze... In my head, I saw a line of black advancing on me, the ghost of my half-forgotten human nightmare. I could not see the glint of their ruby eyes in the shrouded image, or the shine of their sharp wet teeth, but I knew where the gleam should be... Stronger than the memory of the sight, came the memory of the feel—the wrenching need to protect the precious thing behind me. I wanted to snatch Renesmee up into my arms, to hide her behind my skin and hair, to make her invisible. But I couldn’t even turn to look at her. I felt not like stone but ice. For the first time since I’d been reborn a vampire, I felt cold. I barely heard the confirmation of my fears. I didn’t need it. I already knew. “The Volturi,” Alice moaned. “All of them,” Edward groaned at the same time. “Why?” Alice whispered to herself. “How?” “When?” Edward whispered. “Why?” Esme echoed. “When?” Jasper repeated in a voice like splintering ice. Alice’s eyes didn’t blink, but it was as if a veil covered them; they became perfectly blank. Only her mouth held on to her expression of horror. “Not long,” she and Edward said together. Then she spoke alone. “There’s snow on the forest, snow on the town. Less than a month.” “Why?” Carlisle was the one to ask this time. Esme answered. “They must have a reason. Maybe to see...” “This isn’t about Bella,” Alice said hollowly. “They’re all coming—Aro, Caius, Marcus, every member of the guard, even the wives.” “The wives never leave the tower,” Jasper contradicted her a flat voice. “Never. Not during the southern rebellions. Not when the Romanians tried to overthrow them. Not even when they were hunting the immortal children. Never.” “They’re coming now,” Edward whispered. “But why?” Carlisle said again. “We’ve done nothing! And if we had, what could we possibly do that would bring this down on us?” “There are so many of us,” Edward answered dully. “They must want to make sure that...” He didn’t finish. “That doesn’t answer the crucial question! Why?” I felt I knew the answer to Carlisle’s question, and yet at the same time I didn’t. Renesmee was the reason why, I was sure. Somehow I’d known from the very beginning that they would come for her. My subconscious had warned me before I’d known I was carrying her. It felt oddly expected. As if I’d somehow always known that the Volturi would come to take my happiness from me. But that still didn’t answer the question. “Go back, Alice,” Jasper pleaded. “Look for the trigger. Search.” Alice shook her head slowly, her shoulders sagging. “It came out of nowhere, Jazz. I wasn’t looking for them, or even for us. I was just looking for Irina. She wasn’t where I expected her to be...” Alice trailed off, her eyes drifting again. She stared at nothing for a long second. And then her head jerked up, her eyes as hard as flint. I heard Edward catch his breath. “She decided to go to them,” Alice said. “Irina decided to go to the Volturi. And then they will decide...It’s as if they’re waiting for here. Like their decision was already made, and just waiting for her...” It was silent again as we digested this. What would Irina tell the Volturi that would result in Alice’s appalling vision? “Can we stop her?” Jasper asked. “There’s no way. She’s almost there.” “What is she doing?” Carlisle was asking, but I wasn’t paying attention to the discussion now. All my focus was on the picture that was painstakingly coming together in my head. I pictured Irina poised on the cliff, watching. What had she seen? A vampire and a werewolf who were best friends. I’d been focused on that image, one that would obviously explain her reaction. But that was not all that she’d seen. She’d also seen a child. An exquisitely beautiful child showing off in the falling snow, clearly more than human... Irina...the orphaned sisters...Carlisle had said that losing their mother had made Tanya, Kate, and Irina purists when it came to the law. Just half a minute ago, Jasper had said the words himself: Not even when they were hunting the immortal children... The immortal children—the unmentionable bane, the appalling taboo...With Irina’s past, how could she apply any other reading to what she’d seen that day in the narrow field? She had not been close enough to hear Renesmee’s heart, to feel the heat radiating from her body. Renesmee’s rosy cheeks could have been a trick on our part for all she knew. After all, the Cullens were in league with werewolves. From Irina’s point of view, maybe this meant nothing was beyond us... Irina, wringing her hands in the snowy wilderness—not mourning Laurent, after all, but knowing it was her duty to turn the Cullens in, knowing what would happen if she did. Apparently her conscience had won out over the centuries of friendship. And the Volturi’s response to this kind of infraction was so automatic, it was already decided. I turned and draped myself over Renesmee’s sleeping body, covering her with my hair, burying my face in my curls. “Think of what she saw that afternoon,” I said in low voice interrupting whatever Emmett was beginning to say. “To someone who’d lost a mother because of the immortal children, what would Renesmee look like?” Everything was silent again as the others caught to where I was already. “An immortal child,” Carlisle whispered. I felt Edward kneel beside me, wrap his arms over us both. “But she’s wrong,” I went on. “Renesmee isn’t like those other children. They were frozen, but she grows so much every day. They were out of control, but she never hurts Charlie or Sue or even shows them things that would upset them. She can control herself. She’s already smarter than most adults. There would be no reason...” I babbled on, waiting for someone to exhale with relief, waiting for the icy tension in the room to relax as they realized I was right. The room just seemed to get colder. Eventually my small voice trailed off into silence. No one spoke for a long time. Then Edward whispered into my hair. “It’s not the kind of crime they hold a trial for, love,” he said quietly/. “Aro’s seen Irina’s proof in her thoughts. They come to destroy, not to be reasoned with.” “But they’re wrong,” I said stubbornly. “They won’t wait for us to show them that.” His voice was still quiet, gently, velvet...and yet the pain and desolation in the sound was unavoidable. His voice was like Alice’s eyes before—like the inside of a tomb. “What can we do?” I demanded. Renesmee was so warm and perfect in my arms, dreaming peacefully. I’d worried so much about Renesmee’s speeding age—worried that she would only have little over a decade of life...That terror seemed ironic now. Little over a month...Was this the limit? I’d hade more happiness than most people ever experienced. Was there some natural law that demanded equal shares of happiness and misery? Was my joy overthrowing that balance? Was four months all I could have? It was Emmett who answered my rhetorical question. “We fight,” he said calmly. “We can’t win,” Jasper growled. I could imagine how his face would look, how his body would curve protectively over Alice’s. “Well, we can’t run. Not with Demetri around.” Emmett made a disgusted noise, and I knew instinctively that he was not upset by the idea of the Volturi’s tracker, by the idea of running away. “And I don’t know we can’t win,” he said. “There are a few options to consider. We don’t have to fight alone.” My head snapped up at that. “We don’t have to sentence the Quileutes to death, either, Emmett!” “Chill, Bella.” His expression was no different from when he was contemplating fighting anacondas. Even the threat of annihilation couldn’t change Emmett’s perspective, his ability to thrill to a challenge. “I didn’t mean the pack. Be realistic though—do you really think Jacob or Sam is going to ignore an invasion? Even if it wasn’t about Nessie? Not to mention that, thanks to Irina, Aro knows about our alliance with the pack now, too. But I was thinking of our other friends.” Carlisle echoed me in a whisper. “Other friends we don’t have to sentence to death.” “Hey, we’ll let them decide,” Emmett said in a placating tone. “I’m not saying they have to fight with us.” I could see the plan refining itself in his head as he spoke. “If they’d just stand beside us, just long enough to make the Volturi hesitate. Bella’s right, after all. If we could force them to stop and listen. Though that might take away any reason for a fight...” There was a hint of a smile on Emmett’s face now. I was surprised no one had hit him yet. I wanted to. “Yes,” Esme said eagerly. “That makes sense, Emmett. All we need is for the Volturi to pause for one moment. Just long enough to listen.” “We’d need quite a show of witnesses,” Rosalie said harshly her voice brittle as glass. Esme nodded in agreement, as if she hadn’t heard the sarcasm in Rosalie’s tone. “We can ask that much of our friends. Just to witness.” “We’d do it for them,” Emmett said. “We’ll have to ask them just right,” Alice murmured. I looked to see her eyes were a dark void again. “They’ll have to be shown very carefully. “Shown?” Jasper asked. Alice and Edward both looked down at Renesmee. Then Alice’s eyes glazed over. “Tanya’s family,” she said. “Siobhan’s coven. Amun’s. Some of the nomads—Garrett and Mary for certain. Maybe Alistair.” “What about Peter and Charlotte?” Jasper asked half fearfully, as if he hoped the answer was no, and his old brother could be spared from the coming carnage. “Maybe.” “The Amazons?” Carlisle asked. “Kachiri, Zafrina, and Senna?” Alice seemed too deep into her vision to answer at first; finally she shuddered, and her eyes flickered back to the present. She met Carlisle’s eyes for the tiniest fraction of a second and then looked down. “I can’t see.” “What was that?” Edward asked, his whisper a demand. “That part in the jungle. Are we going to look for them.” “I can’t see,” Alice repeated, not meeting his eyes. A flash of confusion crossed Edward’s face. “We’ll have to split up and hurry—before the snow sticks to the ground. We have to round up whomever we can and get them here to show them.” She zoned again. “Ask Eleazar. There is more to this than just an immortal child.” The silence was ominous for another long moment while Alice was in her trance. She blinked slowly when it was over, he eyes peculiarly opaque despite the face she was clearly in the present. “There is so much.” We have to hurry,” she whispered. “Alice?” Edward asked. “That was too fast—I didn’t understand. What was--?” “I can’t see!” she exploded back at him. “Jacob’s almost here!” Rosalie took a step toward the door. “I’ll deal with—” “No, let him come,” Alice said quickly, her voice straining higher with each word. “I’ll see better away from Nessie, too. I need to go. I need to really concentrate. I need to see everything I can. I have to go. Come on, Jasper, there’s no time to waste!” We all could hear Jacob on the stairs. Alice yanked, impatient, on Jasper’s hand. He followed quickly, confusion in his eyes just like Edward’s. They darted out the door in the silver night. “Hurry!” she called back to us. “You have to find them all!” “Find what?” Jacob asked, shutting the door behind him. “Where’d Alice go?” No one answered; we all just stared. Jacob shook the wet from his hair and pulled his arms through the sleeves of his t-shirt, his eyes on Renesmee. “Hey, Bells! I thought you guys would have gone home by now...” He looked up to me finally, blinked, and then stared. I watched his expression as the room’s atmosphere finally touched him. He glanced down, eyes wide, at the wet spot on the floor, the scattered roses, the fragments of crystal. His fingers quivered. “What?” he asked flatly. “What happened?” I couldn’t think where to begin. No one else found the words either. Jacob crossed the room in three long strides and dropped to his knees beside Renesmee and me. I could feel the heat shaking off his body as tremors rolled down his arms to his shaking hands. “Is she okay?” he demanded, touching her forehead, tilting his head as he listened to her heart. “Don’t mess with me, Bella, please!” “Nothing’s wrong with Renesmee,” I choked out, the words breaking in strange places. “Then who?” “All of us, Jacob,” I whispered. And it was there in my voice, too—the sound of the inside of a grave. “It’s over. We’ve all been sentenced to die.”’ But Selena Gomez, a very good singer and actress, the star of Wizards of Waverly Place, puts it best when she sings the show theme song—Everything Is Not What It Seems—and you’re going to hear it, right now—“Well, you know everything is gonna be a breeze. The end will no doubt justify the means. You can fix any problem with slightest ease. Yes, please. But you might find out, it will go to your head when you write a report on a book you never read. With the snap of your fingers, you can make your bed. That’s why I said, ‘everything is not what it seems when you get what you want in your wildest dreams. Everything is not what it seems. You might run into trouble if you go to extremes. Everything is not what it seems. When you can have what you want by the simplest of means. Be careful not to mess with the balance of things, because everything is not what it seems.’ Well, you know everything is gonna be a breeze. The end will no doubt justify the means. You can fix any problem with the slightest ease. Yes please. Be careful not to mess with the balance of things, because everything is not what it seems.’”—See, how can you say someone’s Wicked, if you don’t really know them, what they’re like? I think, no, I feel saying that the Witch of the West is Wicked, simply because she and the Wizard don’t agree on some points, is wrong. ‘What is popular is not always what’s right and what is right is not always what’s popular.’ Maybe, just maybe the Witch wants to fit in and ‘terrorizing’ Oz is the only what she’s noticed Like me. See, what I gathered is that the Witch was picked on, left out, ignored, the way I was, am. She’s stuck on the outside looking in, and you’re not doing anything to fix it. You’re making it worse for her, and for yourselves. My guess is till she’s accepted, by all of you; she’ll just keep on ‘terrorizing’ Oz—“You don’t know my name. You don’t know anything about me. I try to play nice. I want to be in your game. The things you say, you may think I never hear about them, but word travels fast. I’m standing here behind your back, to tell you to your face. You don’t know what it’s like to be outside the crowd. You don’t know how it feels to be left out. And you don’t know what it’s like to be your own best friend, on the outside looking in. If you could read my mind, you might see more of me than meets the eye. And you’ve been all wrong; not who you think I am. You’ve never given me a chance. You don’t know what it’s like to be outside the crowd. You don’t how it feels to be left out. And you don’t know what it’s like to be your own best friend, on the outside looking in. Well, I’m tired of staying at home. I’m bored and all alone. I’m sick of wasting of all my time. You don’t know what it’s like to be outside the crowd. You don’t know how it feels to be left out. You don’t know what it’s like to be your own best friend. You don’t know what it’s like to be outside the crowd. You don’t know how it feels to be left out. And you’d you don’t know what it’s like to be your own best friend, on the outside looking in.”—or like Aladdin says,—“Riffraff, street rat, I don’t buy that. If only they’d look closer, would they see a poor boy? No sirree. They’d find out there’s so much more to me.” My character, Madison Tiffany-Crystal’s second speech, given when she returns to the Emerald City and is trying to help Glinda the Good and the Wizard to clear Elphaba’s name, and to explain to the Ozians the true meaning of Wickedness and when she first begins to attack Madame Morrible and accuse her of being Wicked “Okay, I’m sure some of you hate me for what I said earlier. But listen to me. You were all taught that the Wizard is wonderful and good, and he is. He really is. But he’s been controlled lately, by someone within his own government. That someone is none other than his Press Secretary, Madame Morrible. If she is not stopped, she will destroy all of Oz, not just one person. She is dangerous and too ambitious. As for the so-called Wicked Witch of West—she’s just an underdog against Madame Morrible. Elphaba—that’s her name—not the Wicked Witch of the West—was in way over her head. She was struggling just weeks after leaving the Emerald City since none of you dared to believe her or help her. You all chose to support the real Wicked Witch—Madame Morrible—and her lies.—“She’s an underdog who lives next door to me. She’s always heard you won’t amount to anything. And it kills me to watch the agony behind her eyes. It’s tragic that someway people pass her by, but now I realize that. Everyone sees her, but nobody knows her. She screams in her pillow for a better tomorrow. She hates it. But she takes it. Watch out for that girl. One day she may change the world. She’s original, never trying to fit in. She’s got a way to always go against the grain. Oh, yeah. Someday they’ll see how beautiful she really is. I know the last will be the first. The table’s gonna turn ‘cause. That everyone sees her, but nobody knows her. She screams in her pillow for a better tomorrow. She hates it. But she fakes it. Watch out for that girl. One day she may change the world. Maybe she'll be in a movie. Maybe she'll be in a song. Better pay her some attention before she’s gone. She’s an underdog. Yeah. She means the world to me. Yeah. Everyone sees her, but nobody knows her. She screams in her pillow for a better tomorrow. She hates it. But she makes it. Watch out for that girl. One day she may change the world. Everyone sees her, but nobody knows her. She screams in her pillow for a better tomorrow. She hates it. But she makes it. Watch out for that girl. One day she may change the world.”—I know what I say seems crazy, but yes, she may have had more power than others here, but even that sometimes it isn’t enough. I came here for a reason. I brought the Witch with me so she can tell what she was trying to do—to save Oz, to save her home, not that you cared. Besides, this is what we came here for.—“They say that life is a two-way street. When you’re not sure, you gotta trust your feet to know the right way. You can keep on moving with your head down or you can stop and take a look around. And that’s the choice I’ve made, yeah. It’s for that movie inside your head. Making memories we can’t forget. And when you can’t forget. You’re gonna know in your soul this is what we came here for. So live it loud, here and now. This moment, it won’t be ignored. So why not open up that door? It’s what we came here for. For every song that we let play outside. And melodies we get to ride. Every time we sing. The friends we’ve made, the fun we’ve had. Remembering is gonna make me laugh. It’s a beautiful thing, so beautiful. I wanna send it around the world ‘cause everyone should feel this good. ‘Cause when you feel this good. You’re gonna know in your soul this is what we came here for. So live it loud, here and now. This moment, it won’t be ignored. So why not open up that door? It’s what we came here for. We’re just gettin’ started. To celebrating what we are. You’re gonna know in your soul this is what we came here for. So live it loud, here and now. This moment, it won’t be ignored. You’re gonna know in your soul this is what we came here for. So live it loud, here and now. This moment, it won’t be ignored. So why not open up that door? Open up that door. So come on, open up that door. It’s what we came here, came here for. That’s what we came here...came here for.”—Tell me something, could you possibly forgive her for she’s done? Elphaba’s willing to apologize if you’re willing to forgive her. She’s really hoping that it’s not too late for her to beg your forgiveness.—“Ooo. Here I am. Feels like the walls are closing in, once again. It’s time to face it and be strong. I wanna do the right thing now. I know it’s up to me. Somehow I’ve lost my way. If I could take it all back I would now. I never meant to let you all down. Now I’ve got to try to turn it all around and figure out how to fix this. I know there’s a way so I promise I’m gonna clean up the mess I made. Maybe it’s not too late. Maybe it’s not too late. So I’ll take a stand, even though it’s complicated. If I can, I wanna change the way I’ve made it. I’ve gotta do the right thing now. I know it’s up to me. Somehow I’ll find my way. If I could take it all back I would now. I never meant to let you all down. Now I’ve got to try to turn it all around and figure out how to fix this. I know there’s a way so I promise I’m gonna clean up the mess I made. Maybe it’s not too late. I’m gonna find the strength to be the one who holds it all together. Show you that I’m sorry, but I know that we can make it better. If I could take it all back I would now. I never meant to let you all down. Now I’ve got to try to turn it all around and figure out how to fix this. I know there’s a way so I promise I’m gonna clean up the mess I made. Maybe it’s not too late. I never meant to let you all down. Now I’ve got to try to turn it all around and figure out how to fix this. I know there’s a way so I promise I’m gonna clean up the mess I made. Maybe it’s not too late. Maybe it’s not too late. Ooo.”—I just hope you can all learn to forgive Elphaba in time and that you’ll learn where you went wrong.—“Come with me. I’ll take you now to a place that you fear. For no reason why. Your heart has turned away from me and I will make you understand. Everything will become clear to you when you see things through another’s eyes. Everything will become clear to you. Whatever’s meant for you, you will find. Come with me. I’ll take you there to a place where you’ll see everything you need to be the one you need to be. And all of those things that you feared will disappear from you in time. Everything will become clear to you when you see things through another’s eyes. Everything will become clear to you. Whatever’s meant for you, you will find.”—Elphaba was stuck in a dark place, trapped by lies, and trying to escape. All she needs is forgiveness and a little help, she’ll be free—“Everywhere I turn, I hurt someone. But there’s nothing I can say to change the things I’ve done. Of all the things I hid from you I cannot hide the shame. And I pray someone, something will come, will take away the pain. There’s no way out of this dark place. No hope, no future. I know I, I can’t be free. But I can see another way. I can’t face another day. Tell me where did I go wrong? Everyone I loved, they’re all gone. I’d do everything so diff’rently, but I can’t turn back the time. There’s no shelter from the storm inside of me. Oh. There’s no way out of this dark place. No hope, no future. I know I, I can’t be free. But I can’t see another way. Oh, and I can’t face another day. I can’t believe the worlds I hear. It’s like an answer to prayer. When I look around, I see this place, this time, this friend of mine. I know it’s hard but you found somehow to look into your heart and to forgive me now. You’ve given me the strength to see just where my journey ends. You’ve given me the strength to carry. Oh. I see the path from this dark place. I see my future. Ooh, your forgiveness has set me free. Oh, and I can see another way. I can face another day, yeah. I see the path. I can see the path. I see the future. I see the path from this dark place. I see my future. I see the path. I can see the path. I see the future. I see the path...”—Don’t you see what I’m trying to say to you? It’s not that hard. Or at least it shouldn’t be. Not that I know anything since most of you would say I’m just a kid. Yeah, I’m a kid, but a kid with a very different way of looking at things. In fact, I have this poem—I just found it—I’d wanted to read earlier. If you ask me it’s a pretty good poem too—“Look beyond what you see. People seem to judge everyday/ Those around them on what they say./ Or even how they look and act./ Never caring what lies in the heart./ Teasing carelessly, hurting them./ Forgetting they have feelings too./ Basing final opinions on what you first/ See never really works, only hurts./ That shy girl could save the world./ Or that boy next door could be your best friend./ You’ll never know unless you/ Look beyond what you see./ Look to the heart./ No matter the differences,/ You’re never far apart./ Try to understand how they feel./ Accept them, no matter how strange./ Try to let them be themselves rather than change./ Be their friend, ready and willing to help them./ Don’t let other tell you, “They’re too different.”/ And look beyond what you see.”—that’s what I’ve been trying to say along. Just give her a second chance and don’t believe Madame Morrible. We’ve got to stop her before someone else gets hurt or killed. I didn’t really kill the Witch of the East...—Sorry and you could have told me that earlier, like before we got back to Emerald City—I mean, Nessarose. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time as was she.—“She might fool them but she don’t fool me. She talks much too earnestly and when Glinda gave her the shoes, I had nothing else to lose and I asked her to take my hand. I asked her to please understand. Oh, they love her so ‘cause she’s so sticky sweet, but she just doesn’t seem honest to me and when Glinda asked me to choose, well, I had nothing much else and—and I asked her to take my hand. I asked her who once was my friend, I thought ‘til the end. And I thought that I had the secret to life, but I don’t, do I? Do I? And I thought that I had the secret to life, but I don’t, do I? I follow her now down the Yellow Brick Road, chasing her for revenge, I suppose. She causes destruction wherever she goes. It was her house that killed Nessarose. It was her house that killed Nessarose. That’s just the way life goes.”—It was Madame Morrible who created that tornado that killed Nessarose. Don’t you see that you don’t always really know someone despite what they tell you? I need to go.” My character, Madison Tiffany-Crystal’s third speech, this time defending Madame Morrible while at the same time attacking her and confirming her as the Wicked Witch of Oz “People of Oz. I never intended for anyone to get killed, not even Madame Morrible. I merely just wanted you to forgive Elphaba. She may be Wicked, but how will she learn anything if she is killed? She will not learn anything. This is how I was taught. I’d intended for her to be jailed for life. Being killed will not teach her anything... I agree, but will this teach her anything? I don’t think so. She’s got to learn and I’ve found that the best way to teach is by forcing them to see where the one at fault saw where they went wrong. I’ll explain, but first, can you all do me a favor and not interrupt me during this speech, anymore, like what happened during my last two speeches. We can better teach Madame Morrible if we jail her. She won’t be able to fight back especially if we keep anything she can use to use her powers. I know what I’m talking about, even though it might seem like I don’t. I’m smarter than most people here seem to realize. Maybe if we sent her on a nice long road trip, she may just learn something, hopefully. Like Kenai does in Brother Bear—it’s a movie I saw once.—“Come with me. I’ll take you now to a place that you fear. For no reason why. Your heart has turned away from me. And I will make you understand. Everything will become clear to you when you see things through another’s eyes. Everything will become clear to you. Whatever’s meant for you, you will find. Come with me. I’ll take you there to a place where you’ll see. Everything you need to be the one you need to be. And all of those things that you fear will disappear from you in time. Everything will become clear to you when you see things through another’s eyes. Everything will become clear to you. Whatever’s meant for you, you will find.”—Or like I did during my journey here in Oz. You see she has to see things through someone else’s eyes and find what was meant for her—let everything become clear to her. It’s her turn to learn and Elphaba’s turn to be the teacher. She will understand someday. Anyway, she’s got to be stopped and I know how. We flip the tables on her—but we don’t kill her. We play games with her mind, keep her guessing as to when we’ll strike next, and if I’m right, she’ll crack and surrender. Don’t let her get what she wants. She wants you to want to kill her. We can’t afford to give her what she wants. I hate her, and I want to kill her, and she may be a traitor, but we shouldn’t kill her.—“How could she do it?! She just said nothing when Annabelle was lying plain as day. She just stayed quiet. She didn’t answer. Elizabeth had not a word to say! How could she do it?! I guess I hate her. I guess she’s not my friend, it’s plain to see. My father’s not a traitor! And, yes, I really hate her! Elizabeth’s the traitor—to me!”—We should punish her my way. She’s twisted too many things that others have said—including things that Elphaba has said. I know you all want to kill her, but if anything she should apologize for the harm she’s done—the harm she’s done to the reputations of the truly good—Glinda, the Wizard, and Elphaba. So many people got hurt and it’s time to end it—time for us to see what her reaction when she sees how different everything is now—“Hey! Hey! Hey! When you walk, you don’t leave tracks. When you talk, they don’t talk back. Believe in every word you say, but they don’t know. They don’t, don’t know. Secrets that you just can’t keep. Promises that you made me. You twisted it to suit yourself, but now I know. I know, I know. Ooh, everything that I told you. Ooh, you just smile and then you. Kiss and tell everything I said, stuck inside your little web. Everybody wants to know, yeah. Lips that lie, cover your track, sold me out, and you just laugh. Said we’re friends until the end, yeah, but you don’t mean it, don’t mean it. You don’t mean it, you don’t mean it, no. I wish that I could take it back. You want it all, but you can’t have that. People falling at your feet, but they don’t know. They don’t, don’t know. You’re gonna figure out real soon. The dirty deeds will catch up to you. It’s crumbling beneath your feet, but you don’t know. You don’t, don’t know. Ooh, everything that I told you. Ooh, you just smile and then you. Kiss and tell everything I said. Everybody wants to know, yeah. Lips that lie, cover your track, sold me out, and you just laugh. Said we’re friends until the end, yeah, but you don’t mean it, don’t mean it. You don’t mean it, you don’t mean it, no. Ooh, everything that I told you. Ooh, everything that I told. Ooh, you just smile, and then you. You don’t mean it, don’t mean it. You don’t mean it, you don’t mean it, no. You don’t mean it don’t mean it. You don’t mean it, you don’t mean it, no.”—I think we can all agree on one thing though—that she is has fallen to believing lies and that the time has come for her to see what has happened to her, yet reassure her that, in a way, we’ll “help” her.—“Uh oh. Oh. Uh, uh, oh. Oh. Uh oh. Oh. Uh, uh, oh. Oh. Uh oh. Oh. Uh, uh, oh. Oh. Uh oh. Oh. You walk and talk like you’re some new sensation. You move in circles; you don’t need an invitation. You spend your money—you can’t get no satisfaction. You play it right so you can get the right reaction. It won’t be long my darling. Pick up the phone. Nobody’s on it. Where are your friends now, baby? All of the ones supposed to be there for... You, you. When you’re falling down, the world starts spinning out. You, you. When you’re falling down, now it’s not all about... You, you. When you’re falling down, you know I’ll be around. When you’re falling down, falling down. What’s outta place when you look into the mirror. The truth is blurry but the lies are getting clearer. Your eyes are fixed—your smile’s so elastic. You give me roses, but they’re all just made of plastic. Smile for the camera, everybody’s looking at ya. Smile for the camera, ‘cause they’re all about to trash ya. Smile for the camera, camera, camera. Smile for the camera. Who’s gonna catch ya? You, you. You, you. You, you. You, you. When you’re falling down, the world starts spinning out. You, you. When you’re falling down, now it’s not all about... You, you. When you’re falling down, you know I’ll be around. When you’re falling down, falling down. Smile for the camera, everybody’s looking at ya. Smile for the camera, ‘cause they’re all about to trash ya.”—that is all there is to it. We can either appear to help her—give her a little nudge in the right direction or help her find her way back home—“You wake up, it’s raining and it’s Monday. Looks like one of those rough days. Time’s up, you’re late again, so get out the door. Sometimes you feel like running. Find a whole new life and jump in. Let go, get up, and hit the dance floor. But when the lights go down, it’s ending of the show. And you’re feeling like you got nowhere to go. Don’t you know? You can change your hair and you can change your clothes. You can change your mind, that’s just the way it goes. You can say goodbye, and you can say hello. But you’ll always find your way back home. You can change your style, you can change your jeans. You can learn to fly and you can chase your dreams. You can laugh and cry, but everybody knows you’ll always find your way back home. Your best friends, your little hometown are waiting up wherever you go now. You know you can always turn around. ‘Cuz this world, it’s big and it’s crazy. And this girl is thinking that maybe this life is what some people dream about. Cause when I’m feeling down and I am all alone I’ve always got a place where I can go. Cause I know. You can change your hair and you can change your clothes. You can change your mind, that’s just the way it goes. You can say goodbye, and you can say hello. But you’ll always find you way back home. You can change your style, you can change your jeans. You can learn to fly and you can chase your dreams. You can laugh and cry, but everybody knows you’ll always find your way back home. Where they know exactly who you are. Back home where the real you is the superstar. Back home, you know it’s never too far away. Let me hear you say. You can change your hair and you can change your clothes. You can change your mind, that’s just the way it goes. You can say goodbye and you can say hello. But you’ll always find your back home. You can change your style, you can change your jeans. You can learn to fly and you can chase your dreams. You can laugh and cry, but everybody knows you’ll always find your way back home. You’ll always find your way back home. You’ll always find your way back home. You’ll always find your way back home. You’ll always find your way back home. You’ll always find your way back home. You’ll always find your way back home.”—that is how I see it and the best way to solve this problem. So live with it, people!” My character, Madison Tiffany-Crystal’s fourth speech, rallying the Ozians to save their homes, to save Oz “Citizens of Oz, listen to what I say to you. We must all work together to save Oz. Oz is in very grave danger—everything we know could be completely destroyed. The only way to succeed and save our way of life, is to work together, as a team, and as friends. Now it is more important than ever that we all accept Elphaba and help each other—no matter how we appear on the outside. We may not all be heroes or may not have magic. But we all have one thing in common. We have each other! As long as we believe in ourselves, and each other, nothing and nobody can bring us down! Do you believe me? I haven’t been here very long, but I’ve been here long enough to know working together will be difficult for some of us. We all must overcome our biases and work as a team.—“We’re like a melody with no words until we figure them out. We sing la, la, la, la, la, la. I know it’s simple, yeah, but it’s worked right up to now. ‘Cuz up to now everyday’s been like a dream world, but now you’re not just in my head, oh no. Will we remember different summers? It’s like tossing your heart to see where it lands. Heads is easy. Tails is harder to plan if we’re starting all over again and again and again. You know that I can’t help but wonder what’s gonna happen next. I’m a little curious. Every star that I’ve stood under. When you were under it, too, did you ever think about us? I hope you did ‘cuz I can tell that’s something I’ll never forget. I won’t forget if we remember different summers. It’s like tossing your heart to see where it lands. Heads is easy. Tails is harder to plan if we’re starting all over again and again and again. Only friends. Just beginning. But I hope that we find it again so we can go from here. Will we remember different summers? It’s like tossing your heart to see where it lands. Heads is easy. Tails is harder to plan if we’re starting all over again and again. Will we remember different summers?”—We need to work together, using our knowledge of the world around, and be willing to listen to each other. Someone just might ‘Tell Me Something I Don’t Know’.-- Everybody tells me, That it's so hard to make it, Yet so hard to break it, And there's no way to fake it, Everybody tells me that it's wrong what I'm feeling, I shouldn't believe in, The dreams that I'm dreaming, I hear it everyday, I hear it all the time, I'm never gunna amount to much, But they're never gunna change my mind. Oh! Tell me, tell me, tell me, Something I don't know, Something I don't know, Something I don't know, Tell me, tell me, tell me, Something I don't know, Something I don't know, Something I don't know. How many inches in a mile, What it takes to make you smile. Getcha not to treat me like a child, baby. Tell me, tell me, tell me, Something I don't know, Something I don't know, Something I don't know. Tell me, tell me something I don't know, Tell me, tell me something I don't know. Everybody tells me I don't know what I'm doing, This life I'm pursuing, The odds of me loosing. Everybody tells me that it's one in a million, More like one in a billion, Or one in a zillion. I hear it everyday, I hear it all the time, I'm never gunna amount to much, But they're never gunna change my mind. Oh! Tell me, tell me, tell me, Something I don't know, Something I don't know, Something I don't know, Tell me, tell me, tell me, Something I don't know, Something I don't know, Something I don't know. How many inches in a mile, What it takes to make you smile, Getcha not to treat me like a child, baby. Tell me, tell me, tell me, Something I don't know, Something I don't know, Something I don't know, Selena hits the track like Cold Medina, making waves like Katrina asking everyone are you ready for this? Are you ready for it? Yeah I'm ready for it. Really ready for it? Yeah I'm ready for it. Let's get ready for this. I'm on my way, I know I'm gonna get there someday, It doesn't help when you say, It won't be easy. Tell me, tell me, tell me, something I don't know, something I don't know, something I don't know, Tell me, tell me, tell me, something I don't know, something I don't know, something I don't know, Tell me, tell me, tell me, something I don't know, something I don't know, something I don't know. How many inches in a mile, What it takes to make you smile, Getcha not to treat me like a child, baby. Tell me, tell me, tell me, something I don't know, something I don't know, something I don't know!”—That is all. Now, let’s...GO SAVE OZ!” No Good Deed Gutes Tun No Buena Acción 'T Is Nooit Goed My name is Tiffany. I am three. My eyes are swollen. I cannot see. I must be stupid. I must be bad. What else could have made my dad so mad? I wish I were better. I wish I weren't ugly. Then maybe my mommy would still want to hug me. I can't do a wrong. I can't speak at all. Or else I'm locked up, All day long. When I'm awake, I'm all alone. The house is all dark. My folks aren't home. But when my mommy does come home, I'll try and be nice. So maybe I'll just get, One whipping tonight. I just heard a car. My daddy is back from Charlie's bar. I press my self against the wall. I try to hide, From his evil eyes. I'm so afraid now. I'm starting to cry. He finds me weeping, Calls me ugly words. He says it's my fault he suffers at work. He slaps, And hits me, And yells some more. I finally get free, And run to the door. He's already locked it, And I start to bawl. He takes me, And throws me against the hard wall. I fall to the floor, With my bones nearly broken, And my daddy continues, With more bad words spoken, "I'm sorry!", I scream. But it's now much too late. His face has been twisted, Into an unimaginable shape. The hurt and the pain, Again and again. O please God have mercy, O please let it end! And he finally stops, And heads for the door, While I lay there motionless. Sprawled on the floor. My name is Tiffany. I am three. Tonight my daddy murdered me. You can help save girls like Tiffany, by spreading the word, and posting this story onto your profile. I would only imagine what sadistic person would read this and not post it onto their profiles. So please, post this story on your profile and help end child abuse! REASONS TO JOIN THE DARK SIDE (If you wish to join add this list to your profile): 1. We have cookies (last I checked there was hot chocolate too) 2. Meet the recruitment bunny! 3. You get a cool dark cape that covers your whole body! 4. You get a really cool crazy laugh! Practice with me people: MWAHAHAHAHA cough cough! 5. You get to walk out of shadows mysteriously and freak out the good guy! 6. One word: UNDERLINGS! Someone to get things for you when you're too lazy to do them yourself... Now that's the life 7. Money Money Money : Ever notice that we are usually much richer than the good guys? 8. (Wicked Fans Only) WE HAZ ELPHABA!!!!!!! WE NEED NO OTHER REASON!!!!MWAHAHHAHAHAHAHAH!!!! If Wicked replaced your past obsession, copy and paste this into your profile. ღ You say pink 11 people were on a rope, under a helicopter-10 men and 1 woman. The rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they decided that one had to leave, because other wise they were all going to fall. They weren't able to choose that person, until the woman gave a very touching speech. she said that she would voluntarily let go of the rope, because, as a women, she was used to giving up everthing for her husband and kids or for men in general, and was used to always making sacrfices with little in return. as soon as she finished her speech, all the men started clapping... IDIOTS! IF YOU ARE AN INTELLIGENT WOMAN/GIRL POST THIS ON YOUR PROFILE SO OTHER INTELLIGENT WOMEN HAVE SOMETHING TO SMILE ABOUT!! Even when you can’t see him God is there! If you believe in God, copy/paste this into your profile. If gym class kills all your self-esteem, copy this into your profile. If math class kills all your self-esteem, copy this into your profile. If you've ever copied and pasted something onto your profile, copy and paste this onto your profile. If you have pulled a Max: You have made a snap decision and decided to do it without thinking it through first. If you have pulled a Fang: You have sneaked up behind someone without them noticing, making it seem like you came out of nowhere. If you have pulled an Iggy: You have run into an inanimate object without realizing it was there. This could include, poles, wall, doors, tables, etc. If You have pulled a Nudge: You have chattered endlessly without even realizing it. If you have pulled a Gazzy: You know who you are... If You have pulled an Angel: You have said what a person was about to say, almost like you read their mind... |
