Alex – or rather Ragnar he had to get accustomed to his new name – was annoyed by his current situation, having an adult's mind in a toddler's body was not that good, having to deal with a near overwhelming father even less so. Truly his consciousness had only truly awakened when he was three years old, which was a blessing in disguise, before that his body was going on autopilot, in which his strange behavior was noted by his new family especially his mother.
He secretly heard talks she had with the other mothers of the village of how after his birth he never cried, which was considered to be a bad sign. Ale-Ragnar (almost slipped there) almost forgot how frankly superstitious the people of the current world were. Though he supposed in a world where the supernatural was not only real but very active in some regions, superstition was the current logic in a world where humans had only the number advantage against the other races.
At least before Vampires enter the equation. 'And speaking of Vampires' Ragnar looked at his younger brother, the young Elijah was very different from the man he saw in both The Vampire Diaries and The Originals, for one he was dirtying himself by playing in the dirt and mud. Which considered how he usually reacts when he got his suit filthy was surprising.
Then again he was still a child and a three-year-old child at that, he was pretty sure his refined and well-mannered look and personality was partly because of his time as a noble, but the true fault lies in the mental block Esther put in him on his behest. The events that led to the creation of the Red Door had been a debate he had some time ago whether or not he should interfere.
He decided he should, but only at a pivotal moment when the moment the inner beast of Elijah Mikaelson surfaces for the first time and he attempts, and originally would have succeeded, in killing the first Petronova Doppelganger. But just before he goes for the kill he arrives and stops him, whether he succeeds or fails doesn't matter as Elijah will be particularly thankful to him even if he failed. Though he would try to succeed as Elijah will be forever in his debt if he does.
There was also Klaus, but that was a particular issue that won't come in a long time.
"Ragnar go get your brother it is time for dinner" Esther, he wasn't going to truly call the witch mother even if he died, said to him. He nodded at her with a short 'Yes mother' before going to pick the young Elijah Mikaelson.
Dinner time with the Mikaelson family was very nice, even with the knowledge that half of them would turn into monsters in a few decades. Finn, his older brother, was silently eating his food not making any attempt to speak or make any type of small talk, heck even since he had awakened, he barely even spoke with him. Finn was truly a shell of what he could have been, preferring magic over spending time with his siblings, he had never truly recovered from losing Freya to Dahlia, coupled with the stress of the secret, and Ragnar could see why he would be so inclusive.
He was also pretty sure that Finn own obsession with magic came from the desire to save his sister to the point he would do anything to have it back when he eventually lost it thanks to becoming a vampire. That coupled with Esther's manipulations and his self-hatred made so that he would eventually turn against his brothers and sister resulting in his death right at the moment he got to rekindle the familial bond.
Truly a sad story. Ragnar didn't give two shits about it. If Finn got in his way he spent far more time in that coffin than just nine hundred years, who knows maybe he will throw him the depths of the ocean, unlike Klaus. Because he didn't know how he could control him, he was far more moral than Elijah and definitely wouldn't approve of his actions, and with his self-hatred, he would attempt to kill him-
"Ragnar" Mikael called out pulling him out of his thoughts "Tomorrow you shall accompany me in the hunt, it is time for you to learn"
"Yes, father" From the corner of his eye he saw Esther frown. "My husband Ragnar is still very young he-" She tried to make Mikael desist of his plans but he cut her off. "I was his same age when my father taught me the very basics, and that is what he shall learn, unlike others" Mikael didn't look at him but everyone was pretty sure he was talking about Finn who flinched.
"...yes I understand" It seems that Esther caved in, either she feared her husband's anger ‐ which considering how powerful she is, makes her pathetic - or she loves him too much to go against his decisions. Oh, the power of love. The same love that will be betrayed in the end. Esther was a big hypocrite even before the events that started it all.
He is not going to miss her.
Dinner then went on with silence after Mikael's final words.

Ragnar had to admit that Mikael was a very good teacher, even if his philosophy that strength is all that matters, which he agreed though Mikael only believed in physical strength, Ragnar himself believed that there were various forms of strength beyond the physical. Wealth. Influence. Contacts. All of that made the power of the individual, some would argue that love is also a form of strength.
But love is a two-pointed dagger it has destroyed and created entire nations, thanks to it kings and queens have met their ends long before they died from old age. But it has also made the noblest into the most terrific of monsters to protect or avenge the ones they love. Which is precisely how he is going to make matters with the Originals.
Niklaus wanted his family, or at least someone, to hear him advise him, to stand by his side in his time of need. Elijah was that person but ultimately his loyalty was not only to Niklaus, and their mentalities were very different from each other. So ultimately they made each other worse.
Elijah was obsessed with protecting his family, his loyalty was to his family, if one member turned against the other no matter how he will pick one to stand with. But he will never kill his siblings so at least he could count on that.
Rebekah was desperate for emotional and romantic support. He could offer both with the right manipulations here and there, after all, she was pretty gorgeous all grown and incest never truly mattered to him.
Through the angst problem regarding children can be difficult if she doesn't want to simply adopt one. Really for an immortal that lived more than a thousand years the idea never seemed to have crossed her mind.
"Ragnar come here" Mikael called out, he quickly moved to his 'father' position, kneeling in the dirt was Mikael inspecting a trail of, barely visible, paw prints left by the dirt. "Which beast do these trails belong to?" He questioned, and after analyzing them for a few seconds he had his answer.
"Wolves"
"Correct, now tell me how many there were"
Ragnar looked at them again, the trail left was already nearly invisible thanks to dear old mother nature but he still had his answer. It was very good that he had already a modern-day level of intellect and the lessons of Mikael were all straightforward to learn to him.
"Eight"
"Correct again, now which direction they went?"
"North"
"Wrong south" Even if he failed in the last answer there were no signs of disappointment in his face or eyes, he knew how it looked alright. The glances he sent Finn when he was in his magic books said everything that needed to be said. "Come, I shall find a new trail"
Ragnar followed him, but truthfully speaking he really couldn't wait for the day he became immortal.
Disclaimer: I do not own The Originals, Vampire Diaries, and Van Helsing (Movie). The only thing I own is my OCs.
And we're moving up the ladder. The next couple of chapters are going to be his relationship with the Canon!Mikaelsons and how he interacts with them, especially Klaus and Rebekah who he has special plans for.
After that is going to be him and his siblings throughout history doing shenanigans here and there.
