Alucard wakes up with the first rays of morning light shining through the windows, looking at the clock he sees it's only 6:30 am, he has a while before he has to be up for breakfast and decides to spend half an hour clearing his head for his occlumency training, the faster he gets through it, the faster he can start working on other things. After his thirty minutes of clearing his head, he reads through another chapter in the book before getting ready for his day.
He is ready just before 8 am and decides to head to the dining room himself instead of waiting for his maid to come to get him. He sees her on the way to his room when he is halfway to the dining room, she sees him and has another slightly surprised look on her face for an instant before the trademark smile is back. It makes it extremely hard for him to know what she is thinking.
"Young Master, is there something wrong? You are up early today" Echo asks her young master, Alucard just smiles at her and gives a nod before he informs her that he is fine and just that he woke up early and was feeling hungry. She just falls in behind him, acting as the dutiful servant that she is, although the new Alucard has already guessed all the maids are more guards for his protection than actual maids, taking the roles of maids so as not to worry Alucard when he was younger. With House-elves why would any wizarding family need maids?
He decides to get to know her a little better and starts a conversation "So how are you today Echo? Did you sleep well?" he internally cringes, scraping the bottom of the small talk barrel and asking such a cliche thing but he is ashamed to admit he has never really gotten to know any of the maids. It is a start, in any case, it takes a second for her to reply which he presumes that she was surprised that he asked her a question.
"I am well, young master, I slept well, young master" she answers but without giving him the chance to get a conversation started. Alucard is not sure what to do about that, but it seems his maids or at the very least echo are not very keen on him. Another thing that will have to wait until he has checked over his memories before he worries about it.
They had just reached the dining room, seeing that Vittoria had just arrived as well and sat down, he goes over and sits opposite her giving her a smile. "What no kiss on the cheek this morning?" she asks cheekily, "Oh forgive me" he responds, before getting walking around the table and giving her the kiss she asked for, he seems to have caught her off guard, expecting him to blush and not for him to actually give her the kiss, but she seems happy about it.
Sitting back down just as his breakfast appeared as he starts eating, he hears Vittoria asking him a question "Any more bombshells you want to drop on me?" she asked, clearly joking, he gives a thoughtful look and answers "Yeah I found out a few things last night after I went to bed, but there is nothing that needs to be handled immediately". She gives him a look that basically demands more information than that. He decides to ignore that and ask a question of his own "How are we coming along with what I asked for and the Columbian situation?", she signs knowing she won't be getting more information about what he discovered last night.
"Someone will be going to get the books today, it was late last night so there wasn't a chance to do anything then, but they will probably purchase them in batches by country, you will get the French books today at least possibly the English ones too, why you want anything from that joke of a school is beyond me" She muttered that last part but it was just loud enough for Alucard to hear it. "Mostly so I can compare what each school is learning and there is no point leaving out a school just because it is run by the loony tunes," he said jokingly. "The who?" she asks, confused. "Never mind, it's not important. If they haven't left yet, have them drop by a muggle book store and get books on things to assist in studying, speed reading, meditation, things like that. Now what about the Columbian drug money?" he asks, slightly depressed that his joke fell flat, not sure if it's because he is in the magical world or there are no loony tunes here.
"Well, I sent off a squad of 12 of our best people last night, they should be getting back to me later today, it shouldn't be later than lunchtime I shouldn't think" She answers his question "do you really think that they will be able to retrieve that much money? a hundred million dollars? Wouldn't they just put it in the bank?" She asks, she still seems sceptical that someone would have that much cash just lying about. The ICW does keep a close eye on muggle banks to make sure no one magical thinks about robbing any bank vaults and risking the statute, but if Alucard is right and someone is just burying money there would be no magical protections.
Alucard is shocked that he had 12 people that he could send, he guessed that she would just send some of the maids but that doesn't appear to be the case, he really needs to find out all about his family situation, but it again comes to occlumency first. He is really starting to hate occlumency and it has nothing to do with the actual skill. He believes he should be able to get far enough in a week to start other things. He decides to answer Vittoria, "yeah, I believe there shouldn't be a problem getting double that, as long as he is still the same as he was in my last life, and the reason it's not in the bank is that muggles don't have banks like Gringotts that ask no questions," he said. He was actually kind of nervous that he wouldn't exist in this world and would look like an idiot.
Deciding to change topics to something he can deal with at the moment, "Oh Aunt Vittoria, I need an office to work out of, the sofa in my room isn't bad, but I would like a dedicated workplace, as well as some blank parchment, to make notes, maybe a blank journal, is there any places that I could use?" he asks his guardian. She takes a moment to ponder the question, "There is the Family heads office, but you would need to be 11 and take up the lordship to gain access. I guess there's the heir's office, but it hasn't been used in 20 years. I'll have some of the maids go through it make sure it's safe and restock it." She signals 2 of the maids, Alpha and Beta if his guess was right, that had been standing by and they left without another word having understood what to do. "It should be ready for you by the time you have finished your breakfast" she let him know.
They continued some small talk while they finished their meal, having finished Alucard excused himself with Vittoria telling him the maids will inform him when the office is ready. He headed back to his room thinking he would be able to do some more reading before moving on to the office, once he picked up his book he was curious if reading mutable books explaining the same thing will actually teach him anything.
"Hey Isis, does reading mutable books on the same subject actually teach me anything?" He asks his trusty system knowing that if he doesn't ask, she definitely won't tell him.
[Good morning, Master] She said with a yawn, 'she can sleep?' he thinks to himself. Something to ask later he tells himself. She continues [And yes and no, if the books are exactly the same you will gain nothing, however, if the books are slightly different the system with correct itself with the new information. For example, if you have 10 books that are 95% correct but that 5% is incorrect at different parts in each book then the system will help you in learning the complete 100% correct version.] That sounds good to Alucard but doesn't sound too impressive. It appears that Isis noticed he wasn't too impressed because she actually put forward information without being forced to. [Don't look down on the little increases, a spell that's written down just a tiny fraction wrong could be more than twice as difficult to use. Your occlumency for example, slight increases in your performance could save you weeks if not months of time] She told her master rather angrily because of him looking down on her.
"Ok ok, I'm sorry Zero, it is amazing, I'll make sure I read all these books. You are the best System ever" he quickly apologises to her, wondering why he had to comfort his own system. Though he does believe that a system with a personality is much better than a boring dull computer-like system would be.
Isis doesn't answer him, but he has an instinctual feeling that she is slightly appeased. Focusing on the task at hand to goes to pick up his book to continue his reading when a knock at the door comes. "yes" he calls out. The door opens and Alpha the maid comes through, she is the oldest of his maids, being of a similar age to Vittoria, and Alucard thinks she is in charge of the other maids, she is taller than Echo, at about 5'10" with black hair and glasses and she informs him that the office is ready. He asks her if she could help with all the books on his table and with a barely noticeable flick of her hand a wand was instantly in her hand, another barely noticeable flick and all the books are floating off the table and heading for the door. He grins at her and thanks her getting a small smile from her before following her towards his new workroom.
They come to a quite large room, the walls of the room is a pale yellow colour with dark wood furnishings, with a large desk although it looks like it's not quite adult height, which is good because he is only 10. There were bookshelves against one of the walls, another had a large window that looked out onto the grounds, which were extensive. A forest in the distance was also part of the grounds as far as he could remember. A fireplace was against another wall with a couple of chairs in front of it, which he can already tell will be where he will be spending most of his time, the chairs looked very comfortable.
He notices the maid laid the books onto his new desk; he thanks her as she excused herself after asking if he needed anything else. Deciding he now had some peace to do some proper reading he gets comfortable on his chair with his book. He sees it's just after 9 am so he has a good few hours to get this book finished off and read another.
It takes a couple of hours to finish off the book and move on to another book called 'Complete guide to Protecting your Mind by Modesty Blaise'. After starting he realised, he lucked out and it is another book that he had already read and 10 minutes later he had memorised the contents. Deciding to go through them all and get all the ones he has read before out the way. Unfortunately, there were only two out of the ten or so books that he had read before, though not unexpected, without a system that can correct what you learn there is no need to read multiple books about the same thing.
Mentally calling out to see his occlumency skill thankfully leads to just the skill he wanted to see and not the entire list of skills. While not a problem most of the time, if he was in a hurry it's useful to be specific.
Occlumency - 9 - Protection of the mind
Alucard's slightly relaxes after seeing that his Occlumency has already reached level 9, which seems much better than the 4 it was at previously, although he isn't sure what each number represents. If it is out of ten, which he doubts, he would have nearly finished mastering occlumency, but it could be 20, 100, or even 1000. He really hopes it's not out of 1000. He releases a sigh as he knows what he must do next.
"Hey Isis, what do the levels for skills represent?" He asks his rather temperamental system.
[Oh yes, it's quite simple really, if you want to look at it in comparison to your magic skills here is a small table] Isis says as a table appears before Alucard mentally.
Skill Level |Skill Level Explanation | Comparison to School year
1-10 - Novice - 1st-2nd year
11-25 - Beginner - 3rd-4th Year
26-50 - Journeyman - 5th-6th Year
51-75 - Advanced - 7th year-Mastery
76-100 - Master - Mastery-Mastery+
[The knowledge level on the world where you first unlock a skill is divided into 100, meaning everything that the world knows about a subject is level 100, if you discover new things then your level can become over level 100.] she continued her explanation.
Slightly confused about what she meant about the world; he asks, "What do you mean the world where you first unlock the skill?".
[Well, for example, let's take the medicine Skill if you go into a sci-fi world next then the level 100 in this world will definitely not be the max level in that world, but if you go to a medieval world then the level 100 from this world would be significantly above the available knowledge. Don't worry about it, and just focus on raising skill levels regardless of their levels.] Isis tells him, subtlety pointing out that regardless of his skill levels there could still be more to learn.
"Thanks, Isis, you are the best" He informs his trusty system, hoping she had forgiven him for doubting her earlier, which seems to have worked as he feels her happiness through their connection. Having that cleared up, he looks back at the pile of books and grabs another one.
