Okay people of the Fanfiction Community! I have heard your demands and I have come to deliver! But in all seriousness, one. Whole. Year. I know the pandemic and the need to help the family meant I had to pull back on my stories, but still should have let you guys know.
With that said, let get into the details of this chapter.
Now first I went and goofed up a bit. What I mean is that the Blood Moon Ball episode happened after the episode this chapter is based on. That being said,... sigh. Well Rome wasn't built in a day right? (Note to self, remember to check episode order!) So anyway, this chapter will be based off the Mewberty episode. Except, Star's mewberty will be taking on a much more let's say "Darker" form and mannerisms.
Also! You guys may have noticed that I switched the rating of the fic from T to M. Well... I'll let you guys figure out what that means.
Okay, that's enough of my complaining and explanations, let's ROCK!
Chapter 9: Dark Metamorphosis Pt.1
Today the school was having all the students take a physical health exam, as well as a flu shot. This was due to a couple of students catching the flu or having a cold.
Currently, Principal Skeeves had the boys being examined by Konoe(a.k.a. Nine) in her office. While the girls were being checked out by her friend Tercera(a.k.a. Halibel) in the gym. The reason for this arrangement was because a couple of days ago, some teachers reported possibly seeing someone looking into the girl's locker room while the cheer squad was changing.
Skeeves didn't even want to think of the lawsuits that would come flying at him if this was to come to light. So when the school was asked to perform the health exams due to a few cases of the flu popping up, he made the actually smart move to have the boys and girls examined in different parts of the school.
"Skeeves you've once again out did yourself." He said proudly mentally patting himself on the back.
(School Gymnasium)
As the principal was having his mini celebration of his "smart" decision making, Star, Janna, and Patty were waiting for their names to be called.
"So these exams are like tests to make sure we're all not sick and we don't get grades for them?" Star asked her friends.
"Pretty much Star." Janna said from her seat on the bleachers.
"Okay then. But, why are we also letting them pock us with a sharp needle too?" Star asked.
"That's called a flushot Star." Patty said. "It helps to strengthen your immune system so it's harder for you to get sick." She explained. "They don't have anything similar to this back on Mewni?"
"Nope. Back on Mewni if you got sick, you just have to either use an old mewman recipe depending on what sickness you have. Or just go to the local doctor." Star said. "Well that's for the people who live around the Butterfly Kingdom. Whenever I get sick, my mom was always the one who knew what to do."
"Wait so you're mom was the one who took care of you when you got sick?" Janna asked. "I would have thought you guys had like a royal doctor or something like that."
"That's what I thought too." Patty said in agreement.
"Right. Well let's just say we use to have a royal doctor." But my dad, he-"
But before Star could continue, the three took notice of the person walking passed them.
It was one of the three new foreign exchange students that arrived two weeks ago.
It was the girl who was the same age as them with short brownish red hair with two mirroring white streaks and amber eyes. She was wearing her black jacket with a fur collar, a white and purple t-shirt underneath that reads "satsu" (殺), meaning "kill", a short red skirt, and black knee high boots. She was also wears a black spiked choker around her neck.
"Isn't that girl one of the new transfer students?" Patty asked. "What was her name again? Umm..."
"Gibril Enoyoshi, she's from somewhere in England." Janna said. "Plus, she gives off this pissed-off vibe."
"You get that feeling too Janna?" Star said. "I thought I was the only one who got that feeling from her. It's like a whole army of monsters would run as far away as possible if she even looked at them."
"Not too far the truth if you ask me." Janna said in agreement.
"But it's strange." Patty says. "That level of irritation seems to vanish when she's around Marco or those other two exchange students."
"Yeah, that is kind of stra-" Janna started to say, but stopped after registering what Patty had said. "Uh Patty? What was that part about Gibril and Marco?"
"Yeah! This is first time I'm hearing about this too!" Star said.
"Oh? I thought you guys were already aware of this."
"No! We didn't know!" They both said, with a shared look in their eyes directed at Patty that said 'tells us what happened'.
"Alright, alright. Just relax you two, and let me explain." Patty said as told Star and Janna what she knew.
(Flashback, several days earlier)
"Sigh, that test was not easy in anyway, shape or form." Patty said as placed her history books in her locker. As closed it, she noticed Marco a few lockers down from her.
As she was about to call to get his attention, she saw that exchange student with angry look on her face was standing next to Marco as he closed his locker. Wanting to know what was going on, Patty hide herself behind a corner in the hall as she listened in.
"Uh, thanks for... you know... letting me use your notes for that class." Gibril said as Marco made sure the lock was secure.
"Oh, it's no problem really." Marco said. "So hey, is it okay if I ask a question."
Gibril stared at Marco for a moment before speaking again. "Fine, what's the question?" She asked.
"I was just wondering if you're okay with maybe... hanging out with me and my friends after school?" Marco asked her.
Gibril just looks at Marco, not saying anything, as she weighs her's opinions on the question. On one hand; this could allow her to get a better idea on Marco, to better observe him. While on the opposite end; she doesn't trust herself not to blow-up on his friends and risk blowing her cover.
"No offense to you, but I'll pass." Gibril said. "Plus I kinda already have this... band... that I hang with after school."
"Oh, okay then." Marco said.
"It's not that I think you're lame or anything," Gibril said.
"No,no, I understand. I just wanted to be friendly is all." Marco said. "Well I have to get to my next class. But, maybe I'll see you around sometime." He said as he walked passed Gibril as gave quiet "Yeah sure" as he went by.
After Marco had left; Patty decided she'd seen enough and got ready to leave herself. "I think that's the most calm I've seen her since she's been here." she said as she took her leave.
(Flashback end)
"Oooh, so Marco was just being nice to her." Star said. "If it's just that then it's alright with me. Actually, now I want get know her too." She said. "What about you Janna?"
"Uhh, not so much Star." Janna said as she watched Gibril walk out of the gym. "If you and Marco want to try and be friends with her that's cool. With me it's a toss up."
"And by that you me?" Patty asked and received one of Janna's famous smirks. "Why am I suddenly sorry I asked?"
Before Janna could elaborate, the three girls turned around to the sound of a soft voice from behind.
"Excuse me?" The voice belonged to a girl who was about three years older than them. She had long brown hair and green eyes, was wearing an orange sweater dress made of wool, with a black and white short sleeved jacket on top. She also wore multiple purple wrist bands, two on each wrist, and a black belt with a silver buckle in an lemniscate shape.
"Aren't you- " Before Janna could even get the sentence out, Star beat her to it.
"Oh hey Desna!" Star said happily to the older girl, who didn't really show any kind of reaction, but slightly tilted her head to Star in recognition as Patty and Janna looked on in confusion.
"How... do you both know each other?" Patty asked.
"She just came up to me one day during study hall and asked if she wanted to be friends with me?" Star said. "And you guys know how much I like making new friends. So of course I said okay."
"Should have figured." Janna said. "So did you need something from Star?"
"Not me, Nurse Tercera. She said to tell Star it's her turn to see her." Desna said.
"Okay, thanks Desna." Star said as she took off, leaving Patty and Janna alone with the other girl who chose to play with her hair to occupy her time.
Once Star entered the gym teacher's office, she saw a lady with olive skin, aqua green eyes, short blonde hair and wearing white nurse's scrubs with a mask over her mouth.
"Nurse Tercera I presume?" Star said in a jokingly cool tone.
"Star Butterfly." Tercera said as she looked at the file in her hand, "Your exactly as Konoe described, surprisingly."
"Yeah, some people say that the first time they meet me." Star said. "So how exactly do these health exams go on earth?"
"I'm assuming they usually don't do these back where you're from?"
"Uhh, no. There's a lot of things here that aren't done back on Mewni actually."
"Well it seems like this will be a first for us both." Tercera says, "This will be the first time I'm giving a health exam to a mewman."
After the bit of awkwardness had passed, Star listened as Tercera explained each part of the exam as they went through it.
The one part Star didn't seem to have any issue or suspicious was when she was asked to undress to her bra and underwear as Tercera took her measurements.
"Alright, we're almost done." Tercera said. "All that's left is the flu shot."
"Flu shot?" Star asked in confusion.
"It's something that helps to make it less likely for you to get sick." Tercera explained, as she was preparing the syringe while Star put her clothes back on.
"Oooh, so it's sort of like a potion to help you not get sick, right? Star asked.
"Something along those lines, yes." Tercera said. "Now hold your arm out for me please?" She said, as she aligned the tip of the syringe to where Star's vein was. "And try to relax a bit."
As Tercera carefully slide the needle into Star's arm, she felt the young mewman girl tense up for a moment before relaxing. Tercera then pushes down on the plunger; but notices as the content empties into Star's arm, Star herself appears to have zoned out.
'I suppose this means it's beginning to merge with her smoothly enough.' Halibel thought as carefully pulled the syringe out and placed a Band-Aid on Star, which snapped her out of her trance.
"Huh? did I space out or something?" Star asked.
"For a moment." Tercera said. "With that, we are finished miss Butterfly. Your in good health from what we've gone over."
"Oh great!" Star shouted happily as she jumped up out of her chair.
"However..."
"However?" Star repeated.
"From the file Konoe gave me on you, it says that young girls of your... kind go through something called... Mewberty?"
As soon as the word left Tercera's mouth, Star felt as if literal butterflies were fluttering in her stomach.
"M-M-Mewberty?" Star stuttered.
"Yes? Apparently it's your people's equivalent to puberty. But from the book Konoe was given the signs and warnings are a bit more... extreme." Tercera explained.
"Extreme sounds about the right word for it." Star mumbled.
As that little chat ended, Tercera said Star was clear to leave and asked her to let Janna know she was next. After Star left the office, Tercera started preparing for the next student.
As she was throwing away the empty syringe, she picked up the vial that contained the flu shot she had given to Star.
Tercera sighed as she swiped her finger over the label. It glowed for a brief moment before going back to normal. In it's place was a picture of a flower bud surrounded in black flames.
'I suppose we'll see how the boy handles your test Nine.' She thought.
A little while after all the students were cleared with their health check ups, classes resumed.
Currently, Star, Marco, and Eric were in art class. Their assignment was to draw or paint something that is usually on your mind.
Marco and Eric sat next to each, while Star chose to draw what was usually on her mind.
The surprising part about it thought, was that Star chose to sit further away from both boys.
Marco glanced at what Eric was doing. While like Star, Marco chose to draw. Eric decided to paint his picture; which Marco had to admit was looking really amazing for someone so inpatient.
The painting was that of a castle silhouetted by a blood moon at night as what appeared to be a flock of bats flew over it.
"Wow Eric, that's a really amazing painting." Marco said awestruck. "Is this what's usually on your mind?"
"Mmm... more or less." Eric said. "It's more like a... representation of what my family is destined to fight against." He said as focused on his painting. "What about you? What are you drawing?"
"Oh, it's a drawing of all of us." Marco said as he showed what he had so far to Eric.
The picture had Lady on the far right winking and Morrison on the far left with a good-natured smile. Kat was reading a book next to Lady with Janna flashing the peace sign with her classic smirk, while next to Morrison Patty and Eric were shooting each other annoyed looks with their arms folded. Closer to the middle was Dante on the right flashing the peace sign like Janna, and on the left was Vergil with his eyes closed and his hands on the pummel of his katana as it was sheathed.
'The day I see this happen, is the day Dracula turns over a new leaf and let's humanity live in peace.' Eric thought sarcastically. He then looked to the center of the picture and found Marco with him almost falling over as an overly-happy Star had one arm around his neck and waving her other arm in the air in joy. 'Now this scene is more plausible.' He thought.
"Your drawing looks okay Marco." Eric said. "But where is this suppose to take place at?"
"The shop. That's the part I'm working on right now." Marco said.
"So your going to try and make a place that's usual a pigsty look good in that picture? How?" Eric asked.
"Ha-ha, good question." Marco said as he look over at Star. "What do you think Star's working on?"
"My guess is either monster fighting of demon hunting." Eric said.
"Okay? Or she could being drawing something that has to do with stuff she did back on Mewni before coming here to earth." Marco guessed.
"Hmm, that's also possible."
What Eric and Marco didn't know was that they were both wrong. Star was actually drawing something that was completely out of her nature, even she didn't know what had come over her. But she didn't seem too bother by it, what Star was drawing was in fact a picture of... Marco. To be more accurate, she was drawing a picture of Marco in a more action oriented way. He was wearing his dark blue coat, but it was fluttering wildly. His Red Queen sword was in his hand planted into the ground as flames dances along the blade while his Devil Bringer was out in a flexing position. Finally, Marco was drawn with a confident smile and a little battle scar on his right cheek.
'I wonder what made me want to draw Marco like this?' Star thought. 'But, I'm actually happy I drew this. Maybe That's how Marco appears to me; a nice and caring person, who can just a easily become an amazing, cool, strong, handsome fighter who can... wait... handsome? Where did that come from?' She thought.
Star then noticed that her face was getting warmer the more her thoughts lingered on Marco. What she didn't notice was that her eyes were beginning to gain a ting of dark violent in her left eye and pale yellow in the right.
Before her thoughts went any further, the bell rang, signaling the end of class and snapping Star from her daze.
"Huh? What?" Star said as she came to from her thoughts. "Was I... saying something?"
"Hey Star,"
Star turns around and sees Eric and Marco walking over.
"Finally a reaction." Eric said. "I was wondering what was wrong with you when the teacher said you were "Lost in sea of creative bliss" as she put it.
"Sea of what?" Star asked in confusion as she looked to Marco for an answer.
"Translation Star; the teacher saw how into your drawing you were, so she said so long as your not here too long you could keep admiring your work." Marco explained. "You must have drawn something pretty amazing though."
"Oh come on Marco, y-your going to make me blush like crazy if you say stuff like that. Haha." Star said as she waved her hands in front of herself comically, while also trying to keep the boys from noticing the light dusting of pink on her face.
"Well if you're done 'admiring your art work," Eric said, "maybe now we can leave once you grab your bag...and clean up your face."
"My face?" Star said. "There's something on my face?"
"Uh yes? I believe it's either marker or whatever you were using during class."
Marco took a closer look and saw that Eric was right. Star did have a mark in the middle of her forehead.
"Eric's right Star, you've got something right in the middle of of your forehead." Marco said as he pointed at his own forehead to indicate.
Star looked up at her forehead and saw that there was a purple splatter in plane view.
"That's weird, cause I didn't use anything purple in my drawing." Star said as tried rubbing her forehead to remove the spot. "Is it off?"
"No, it's not. nothing even came off." both boys said.
"Star, are you sure you weren't using paint or anything that could have left that spot?" Marco asked.
"Marco I'm positive. I was only using colored pencils and nobody sitting next to me was using paint."
"Then how did that spot get there?" Marco wondered.
"Hold on, let me see something." Eric says as he takes out a handkerchief and damps a bit with a water bottle he has. "Hold still for a second."
"O-kay." Star said a bit perplexed as Eric used the damp handkerchief on Star's forehead.
As Eric was trying to rub the mark off, he suddenly felt the handkerchief catch on something.
'What the?' Eric thought. "Star? I'm going to try something, so I need you to remain still for me, okay?"
"Um, okay?" Star now confused at what Eric was doing.
Eric then removed the handkerchief and placed two fingers on Star's forehead. To Marco and his own shock, Eric was peeling the mark off.
"So, did you get the mark off?" Star asked.
"Yes, but not the way I was expecting to." Eric said, as he showed Star that he was actually holding what was on her moments ago.
A purple heart.
When she saw the small heart in Eric's hand, Star instantly knew what it meant. And she began to grow nervous.
"Um Star?" Marco said. "Can you maybe explain how Eric just... peeled this off you?"
His question was met with both boys watching as Star mumbled something.
"Huh? What did you say Star?" Marco asked to which Star mumbled again.
"We can't understand why... this... came off you if you mumble." Eric said. "So your going to have to raise your voice-"
"I SAID IT'S BECAUSE OF MEWBERTY!" Star yelled, which caused both boys to jump back in surprise.
Star then quickly covered her mouth after realizing she had just yelled at her friends. But at the same time, she began to fret over how she would explain.
'Great, now how am I going to explain all this? And...' Star's thoughts soon began to change as her eyes slightly drifted to Marco, who was recovering from his shock. 'And how come I feel like my heart by burst if stare at you any longer... Marco?' She thought, as both her left and right eye gained that dark violent and pale yellow respectively.
A/N: That's it for part 1 of Dark Metamorphosis. Star is suddly starting to fall under the influence of the 'flu shot' that Halibel gave her as per Nine's test request.
Desna's already become friends with Star and Gibril may have a pass to get closer to Marco. But she doesn't trust herself not to blow it.Now to finish this up, I can't say how long it will take for part two of this to come, but I can tell you this. it won't take a year. ;)Anyway, I'll see you all next time.
