This is almost a copy-n-paste of my other message on Fairy Souls. So it's been years since I've written anything. I saw this draft a while ago and finished crafting it to the point I think people could come to their own conclusions as to where I was going with this. I'm too busy to ever come back to this (perhaps one day). Overwatch's lack of development is saddening. I know a little bit about what's going on with the development, but I just don't play the game anymore. Sorry to disappoint, but in the space since I started writing here I graduated Highschool, saw some of Africa, got married, and am towards the end of college. I may return one day, but it's not looking good. I hope you all enjoyed these stories and to see how far I've come (from the Teen Titans story of mine to this Overwatch tale that also sits dormant). I'm not bored or tired of writing and this isn't a I've-given-up tale, but it's hard to justify the time and effort these took. Enjoy this snippet from a few years back that I have been working on. I liked the story idea and have a whole outline of the story I may get to one day, but it won't be any time soon, if at all.
The hall was illuminated by the twilight as each silent footstep seemed to pierce through the quiet hall. To most other people this would leave them feeling uneasy. She was not mosts people. A smirk grew on her face as she walked through the darkness. This was the best time to do her work because it was a reflection of her true ambition.
After a minute or so she came up to a door on her right. A wave of her badge later the door hissed open and she stepped through the doorway, clipboard in hand. The lab had lighting that matched the hall, having just enough light to allow her to see her favorite project sitting on a lab table.
"Hello, Doctor," a deep monotone voice addressed her.
She couldn't help but smile. The thought of the final product thrilled her and with every session she grew closer and closer to another success. She came back from her thoughts and looked at the table.
She examined her subject and noticed the extra amount of clothing he was wearing. His combat boots with combat pants were usual, but the large hoodie was new. The whole outfit was midnight black, oddly hiding every bit of skin beneath it.
"My, aren't you bundled up nicely tonight," she commented as she started taking notes on her clipboard. Something told her this would be quite a conversation.
"Don't try and get under my skin, doc. Your cough syrup is doing just fine at that." He seemed agitated in a passive way. She could only assume that his transformation had already begun to take a more dramatic effect on his appearance. Still, they were so close to being finished that she had to string him along only a while longer. All the others were just stepping stones to this, her final product.
"It will only be temporary, I assume you that the final result will… satisfy you." Her smile only grew as she wrote, recording everything that happened. She would later digitized her recording, but for now she wanted no chance of getting caught. The system was monitored often and she couldn't afford the risk, not with her next achievement on the line.
"It's getting harder to hide. It's almost spread across my face."
As he spoke, he lifted his head ever so slightly allowing what little light to shine on his neck through his hood. Her eyes widened as her smile grew ever more wide. She saw it. The black mist that seethed out of portions of his skin were like black veins across his skin, almost in a web like pattern spreading upwards towards his jaw-line.
"If it goes up any higher, I won't be able to hide it. You and I both know what will happen if this gets out," His tone went from monotone to aggressive "We had better be DONE with this dose." Moments later his body retreated back into the darkness, as if he had always been sitting there, unfazed. She turned and began walking over to the cabinet and sink in the corner.
"Oh, there's no need to worry my dear. After tonight we will only need one more dose to finish." She opened a cabinet and pushed several medical items away as before reaching further back to the wall of the cabinet. She felt for a moment before finding the spot where her hand fit perfectly in the nearly invisible indentation. "Then you'll be able to change back and forth at will, and we can move into the final phase." She felt her hand be scanned and as the wall slide downward she retracted back for a moment, allowing the hidden hatch to open before retrieving her prizes. She received the bottle and the ayto-syringe and turned back to the table.
"You'll get back at those who have wronged you and I'll be able to continue my work to better mankind."
She handed him the bottle and he twisted it open and downed the fluid in seconds. She had no idea how it tasted, but from their first session she could see that it did not go down well from the look on his face. Still, as time went on he got better at hiding his disgust.
With the bottle now empty, he looked over at her, slowly rolling up his sleeve to reveal the same web pattern from his neck, only far more dense and wild. She felt up his arm until she found the vein, then injected the auto-syringe into him.
"How long before we can do the next session?" He spoke as she turned to the panel on the wall next to her. She let out a laugh as she glanced back at him.
"The next session? My commander Reyes, lets first finish this one before talking about short-cutting your recovery."
With that, she turned to the panel and a few swipes and types later the wall began to open as the table was pulled into it. Reyes, now perfectly flat on his back, crossed his arms as he disappeared into the pocket. As soon as the table was in, she closed the protective barrier and tuned began the session.
Purple light sliced through the darkness as the room was filled. The light flickered on and off, creating strobe after strobe after strobe. Reyes used to scream with each flash but after all these months only grunted in pain. It was a sign of improvement in her eyes.
She slowly turned up the power before looking back with a smile. She seemed to be staring at her one and only chance to get back at the organization that nearly abandoned her. With a slight chuckle, she thought of the benefits of her current study would provide to the world. They may even have to put Doctor Moria's name in every medical book from her on as the one who discovered a way to cheat death…
