She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl
Chapter II
Rory and Logan were on the jet. Their destinations are London, Paris, and Belgium. When Logan's grandfather Elias passed away, Logan was left with numerous properties around the world. These are just three of many. Some Logan sold, as no one ever visited. Logan and Rory stayed at the Morgan Hotel in Harford, the honeymoon suite last night, courtesy of Finn. His family owns the Morgan Hotel Chain. Logan wanted to be on the plane watching the sun come up. This meant getting up pretty early after a late night. After the plane took off, Logan held on to Rory as they watched the sunrise. It was spectacular. Rory laid her head on Logan's shoulder. She was still tired. She did not get much sleep last night for obvious reasons, but her conversation with Nancy and Janlon worried her a bit.
Rory began working for the Boston Globe in January of 2009. She took some time off after She left the campaign trail when Obama was elected in November 2008. Rory ran into Tristian in the summer of 2009. They both were at the Boston Pops on the 4th of July. Tristan was in the Marines. He was stationed in Washington DC. They did the long-distance, with Tristan traveling to Boston when he wasn't on assignment. Rory was also able to travel to Washington.
Tristan proposed at Christmas 2010. They got married in December 2011. Rory moved to Washington DC. She worked for the Washington Post. Tristan was on assignment more than he was home. Rory enjoyed her work. She missed Tristan, but she had her work to keep her busy. Tristan was transferred to Germany in March of 2012. Rory joined him in May 2012. Rory worked as a freelance reporter. This is also when Rory started writing her book.
Amelia Virginia Dugray was born in Germany on June 11, 2013. Lorelai made plans to be in Germany when the baby was born. Mia had other plans. She was two weeks early. Lorelai did not make it in time. Tristan was on assignment and couldn't get to her either. Rory gave birth to Mia alone. By the time Tristan got back, Lorelai was there. Rory had a bad case of postpartum depressions. Lorelai was supposed to stay for 2 weeks. When she left, she begged Rory to come back with her. She refused. Tristan was allowed 2 weeks for paternity leave. He waited to take leave after Lorelai left. Tristan returned to work after his two-week paternity leave. He was back at work for a week, before he was on assignment again. Tristan called his mother Nancy to see if she could come to stay with Rory. Emily came instead. When she saw how bad of shape Rory was, she packed her and Mia up and took them back to the states. Tristan agreed this was best. Rory started seeing a therapist as soon as she got back to the states. To start with Rory and Mia stayed in the main house. Emily hired a nanny. Rory was getting better. She and Mia moved into the pool house. Tristan was coming to visit. Mia was 7 months old. The only interaction with Rory or Mia was by video. Tristan was away more and more. He had been transferred to Japan. The plan was for Rory to meet him at the Morgan Hotel in Washington DC. Tristan had several meetings before he was released for leave. The day before Rory was going to meet him in Washington, he called to tell her not to come. He wanted a divorce. It was what is best for them all. Rory contacted her Dad, who just happened to be the best divorce lawyer around. Rory ended up with child support. That is all she asked for. Well, she told her lawyer that she didn't want child support, but the judge and the lawyer would not let it go. Because of her age, and the fact that he did not live in this county, Tristian visitation rights were supervised in the States only. Custody agreement to be amended when Mia gets older. They were divorced in 2014. Rory and Mia continued to live in the pool house, while Rory continued to freelance. When Mia was a year old, Chris bought her a townhouse in Brooklyn. It was her congratulatory gift for getting a job at the New York Times. This was Rory's dream job.
Rory woke up with a start. "Hey, Ace, it's okay, it's just a little turbulence." "How much longer?" she asked. "We will be at Heathrow in about thirty minutes. It will take customs 10 or 15 minutes, then we can head to the townhouse."
When they departed, a driver was waiting for them. He drove them to the townhouse. Logan carried Rory over the threshold. They face-timed Mia, to let them know they had landed. She was so excited to tell them all she was doing in Stars Hollow. She went to work with Grandpa, then she helped Nana at the Inn. She was a very busy girl.
They stayed in London for two days, then left for Paris. Logan took Rory to the top of the Eiffel tower. He made arrangements for them to have a picnic up there. When they got back to the apartment, they enjoyed sitting on the balcony, watching the lights. They went shopping the next day. Logan told Rory that he was going to have to buy her new luggage to be able to take it all back.
The next morning, they were packing up. Their next and last stop was Belgium. After landing, the car service picked them up. They sent their luggage to the house, while they enjoyed lunch at a cafe on the square. Rory kept looking at her watch. She wanted to talk to Mia. She didn't get to talk to her yesterday. Logan stood up to get her a refill of coffee. When he returned, Rory was as white as a sheet. "Ace, what's wrong?" he asked. She had her head down. "Let's go. I will tell you when we leave." She took his hand and walked around the corner. "Tristian is sitting right over there. See the three men in uniform?" she asked. Logan was trying to look around the corner but was shocked when he saw Tristan headed toward them. "Huntz, is that you?" Tristan asked. "Hey, How are you? Last I heard you were in Japan." Logan said. "You know how it is, You go where they tell you to," Tristan said. "Hey Rory, You look good. I suppose this is your honeymoon?" Rory smiles and nods her head. "Where is Mia?" He asked. "She is with Lorelai and Luke. We are picking her up Friday and taking her to Chris, so we can finish moving in." Logan said. "I am sure she is well. You would have called Mom if you needed me as per our divorce agreement. I talked to her yesterday, she was telling me about how beautiful you looked at your wedding." Tristan said. Rory was getting uncomfortable. "Where are you living now, Tristan?" Logan asked. He had a hold of Rory's hand. "Well, I am sorry, but that is classified. My mother knows how to start the process to get me to call her back. So if anything happens that I need to know about, just give her a call." Tristan said. He shook Logan's hand then kissed Rory's hand. "Enjoy the rest of your honeymoon," he said, turning and walking back to his table.
Their car was pulling up. Logan helped Rory in, before getting in himself. "Call Mom if you need me. I haven't needed him since the day he asked for a divorce. What makes him think that I would need him now. He had made no effort to see Mia. She is 5 years old. She was just a couple of months old the last time he held her." "Hey," Logan said, putting his arms around her. "Calm down and listen to me. This is only my opinion. I think Tristian divorced you and has not had any contact with Mia, because he knew he could not give you the life you wanted and deserved. He didn't want to be a dad that comes and goes, that you never know when he is going to show up or how long he will be there, so he thought the best thing to do is to let you and Mia go. He knew you were young enough that you would find love again and that you will take care of Mia. I know that doesn't lessen the hurt, but just think about it. I owe him everything." Logan reached over and kissed.
When they got back to the house, Rory was amazed. This house was a castle. "We have to bring Mia back here. She will love this. Does it have a big library? If it does, I will have to buy her a yellow beauty dress so she can dance around." Rory was going a mile a minute. Logan was pointing out different things about the house when a butler appeared with a silver tray and a note. "Mrs. Huntzburger, Your mother called. She would like for you to get in touch with her immediately." He pushed the tray in front of her and she removed the paper. Logan had his cell phone out. "No Service" Rory dug in her purse. "No Service. I guess our calling plans do not include Belgium." Logan looked around for a house phone when he saw the butler standing off to the side. "Could you take us to a house phone please?" Logan asked. Logan and Rory followed him to what looked like an office. There was a desk. He sat down in the chair and Rory picked up the phone. He was looking at the picture of him and Honor. There were some of his grandmother. There were family pictures everywhere. This surprised Logan because Elias kept his office at HPG clean. Nothing that looked like it belonged.
"Momma, we just got to Belgium. I didn't realize our cell plan did not include Belgium. You must have called Shira to get the number?" "Yes, I had your itinerary, but you did not leave any house phone number and I tried to call your cell." Lorelai was saying. "It's fine. What is so urgent?" Rory asked. "Well," Lorelai started. "Mia was at the diner with Luke. She was eating with Ms. Patty and Babette. She got up to go to the bathroom and her foot got stuck in Mrs. Patty's purse and tripped her. she caught herself with her hand. We took her to the ER. I called your pediatrician. Explained that you were out of town. He told me you told him you would be out of town." "Mom" Rory spoke loudly to get her attention. "Well, he x-rayed it and she has a hairline fracture. Rory, I am so sorry," Lorelai was almost in tears. "Mom, is she okay?" "Yes, they gave me some mild pain killers to give her. She was asking for you, but I called Chris and he and Gigi met us at the ER. She was fine when Gigi got there. Rory, I am so sorry." "Mom, did you intentionally send her to work with Luke so that she could sit with Ms. Patty and get her foot caught in the purse so she would break her arm?" Rory asked. "No," Lorelai said. "Then it was an accident and not your fault. Is she where I can talk with her?" "No, she is asleep." "Okay," Rory looked at Logan. "It's up to you if you want to leave now, that is fine with me," Logan said. Rory smiled. "Mom, we will be home shortly. We have not unpacked, so we can be wheels up" She looked at Logan and he mouthed 1 hour. "In 1 hour. Tell her I love her."
