She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl
Chapter III
Rory and Logan touched down in Hartford at 6:30 am. The 8-hour flight was long. There was a car waiting for them. They arrived at Luke's diner. Rory texted Lorelai when they landed. She was waiting for them at the diner. Mia was still half asleep. She was sleeping in Lorelai's lap. Rory made a beeline to her. "Momma" She smiled at Rory. "I got a boo-boo" "I see," Rory said. She took her from Lorelai. Luke came over to see if they wanted something to eat. Rory and Logan both ordered. While they were waiting, Mia went back to sleep.
Rory and Logan rode with Lorelai to the Inn. They needed to sleep off some of the jet lag. Lorelai promised to wake them if Mia needed them. Logan and Rory snuggled into bed and were fast asleep. Rory had tried to sleep on the plane but to no avail. Logan asked Rory what time she wanted him to set the alarm.
Logan and Rory were up in time to eat in the dining room. Mia was there also. She wanted to stay with Rory and Logan, so they let her.
Saturday morning, they left to go to Chris's house in Boston. Gigi came running out the door as soon as they drove in the driveway. She was getting Mia out of the car seat. Logan was getting out when he asked Rory about what time he should have Frank return. "After lunch," Rory told him.
When they got in the house, Chris was standing in his office doorway. "Ms. I got a boo-boo," Chris said. Mia went to him for him to pick her up. They enjoyed spending time with each other. Chris and Gigi told them that Mia had to stay. After a while, Rory stopped arguing. After lunch, they played a game with Mia and GiGi, then left to go to the newly remodeled house. Logan had a penthouse apartment in Manhattan. He also owned a 9 bedroom, 8.5 bathroom house with a detached 2 bedroom guest house. Claire and Benjamin live in the guest house. They are a couple in their late 50's. Claire manages the house and Benjamin is the handyman. They supervise the staff.
Rory and Logan dated for over a year before he proposed. It took them 6 months to plan the wedding and reception. During this time Logan had moved in with Rory and Mia while they remodeled the house. Logan had a final inspection before he left for his wedding. Everything was supposed to be moved in and unpacked, but Rory wanted to make sure. Logan tried to talk her into another week of honeymoon, but she would not have it. Then when Mia broke her arm, she was glad they had not planned to stay another week.
They arrived at their house. Logan had lived here for a while, therefore requiring remodeling his bachelor pad into a family home. He and Rory talked about having more children. They wanted 2 but would be okay with just one more. Rory wanted to get started on her honeymoon. Logan insisted he carry her over the threshold. They laughed all the way into the house. They were greeted by Claire and Benjamin. Rory tried to convince Logan that they did not need a staff. But after they started the remodel, Rory knew she couldn't keep up with the housework, even with help. This house is bigger than the Huntzburger Manor in Hartford. She wondered what Shira thought of that.
Rory was brought out of her thoughts when Claire asked her what she would like for supper. Rory told whatever she could easily fix. The staff would not be back in until Wednesday. Claire reminded her that she needs to sit down with her and go over things about the household. "Don't forget that Mia is coming home Friday. Chris and Gigi will bring her home. They will stay for the weekend. The housewarming and welcome home party will be Saturday afternoon. I can't tell you how many will be staying overnight Saturday night. I will try to get you a headcount." Logan said.
Logan and Rory got settled in, ate supper, and enjoyed sitting cuddled up on the couch watching a movie. The next morning after Rory had her coffee, they sat down with Claire and Benjamin to over instructions for the staff now that Rory and Mia would be living there. One thing Rory wanted to make sure of, is that Mia is responsible for picking up her playroom and bedroom. She will have age-appropriate chores. "She is a sweet little girl that knows how to get her way. I want her to understand that she is responsible for herself." Rory said. "Ms. Rory, will she have a nanny?" Claire asked. "Yes, Honor is sending us resumes to look at. I think I would like to set up interviews for Thursday." "Ms. Rory, we will like to help until you get a nanny hired," Claire said. "Thank you. I want you to sit in on the interviews if you can." Rory asked. "I will make the time."
Claire and Rory went from room to room setting them up the way Rory and Logan wanted. Some of the rooms were fine the way they were, but some of them they called Benjamin and Logan in to move stuff around. They got about half of it done Monday. Logan and Rory went out to eat Monday night. After all, they are still on their honeymoon. Frank took them to Manhattan. They ate at 3 Knights. Logan then surprised Rory by taking her to see Wicked.
Tuesday morning, when she went down to get coffee, Claire introduced her to one of the maids. Claire explained to Rory that she went ahead and called her in. Some of the rooms they rearranged yesterday needed tidying up. "You Claire, are in charge. Whatever you think is necessary." Rory said with a smile. "Have you seen Logan this morning?" "I think I saw him and Benj outback," Claire said. Rory took her coffee and headed to the patio. She sat down at a table with her coffee and the newspaper Logan left. She smiled as she watched him and Benjamin on the gator. They were stopping at some of the trees, examining them. Rory waved and he waved back.
She was almost finished with the paper when Logan returned to the patio. "Hey." He said leaning over to kiss her before sitting down. "What were you doing?" Rory asked. "There are some trees at the lower end of the property that need to be thinned out. Benjamin is also going to have the fence removed and replace it with a privacy fence. I don't want anyone to be able to look in while Mia is out playing. The fence that we have by the playground is Roath iron. It would be easy for someone to slip onto the property at night. I am also sending my head of security out here. I want him to recommend any improvements that he thinks need to be made to keep you and Mia safe." Logan said. "Are you expecting trouble?" Rory asked. "No, It was just me out here. I wasn't worried. I set the alarm when I was at home. That was all the security I needed. With you and Mia living here, I want to make sure no one can get in." Logan said. Rory just nodded. She would have to get used to it. This is a part of her life now.
They were still sitting on the patio when the new maid interrupted them. "Mrs. Huntburger, I am sorry to interrupt, but you have a phone call from Mrs. Dugray. I can plug the phone in out here if you would like." She asked. Rory closed her eyes. "I will take it out here please," she told her. Rory answered the phone. "This is Rory….Yes, Nancy, we enjoyed it immensely….Paris, London. We got back Friday, although we are still technically on our honeymoon… We both return to work Monday, it will be a fairly busy day, as I have not been at work for 2 weeks. But I can probably meet you for lunch Tuesday…..I will send you a text…..Yes, Bye Nancy." Logan raised an eyebrow at Rory. "She somehow knew we were back in town," Rory said. "Google us and see if anyone has us arriving at the theater or eating last night," Logan said. "No, I will look later. I am enjoying sitting here with my husband right now." She told him.
