A/N: Thanks for all the reviews. I can't express how happy I am that my story is back to flowing again. I'm hoping that it will stay that way. Here's the next chapter. Enjoy.

Chapter 19

Rory POV

It's been a year since I graduated law school and nearly killed myself with alcohol poisoning. Steph and Colin had moved in with me to make sure that I wouldn't drink myself to death. I'd come a long way in the last year. I didn't drink anymore which my family and friends were happy about. Tonight was Steph and Colin's engagement party and it would be the first time that I have seen Finn since he graduated three and a half years ago. I thought about the phone call last week as I finished getting ready.

***Flashback… One Week Ago***

I was sitting in my office trying to finish the paperwork for a law suit when my cell rang. I didn't look at the caller ID and quickly answered. "Hayden." I said.

"Huntzberger." I smiled hearing my friend's voice.

I sat back in my chair. "Hey how's it going?" I asked him.

"Good. Í'm flying in Thursday and I was hoping I could crash at your place." He said.

"Avoiding your parents again?" I asked him.

"Always. Mom's trying to set me up again. Keeps saying that I need a date for the wedding. I told her I was going alone to keep you company. She smiled when I said that. I think she's secretly hoping that you and I will get together." He said.

I couldn't help but laugh. "Yeah you can crash at my place. Shira's always hoping." I said.

"Yeah. Anyway, that wasn't the only reason that I called." He said sounding a little mysterious.

"Okay I'll bite. What's going on? Cause I know something is. Steph and Colin are acting weird and my mom gave me a weird look last night when I met her for dinner." I said.

Logan let out a sigh. "Are you sure you shouldn't have been a journalist?" He asked me.

"Logan, just tell me." I said, sounding a little annoyed.

"Finn's coming home. He's moving to New York." He said.

"Oh." I said. No one had bothered mentioning Finn's name to her since he'd left for Australia knowing that it would do nothing but anger her because they'd broken up because he had to move for his job. She'd spoken to his parents from time to time at different society functions but she never asked how he was. "Well, I mean we were bound to run into each other at some point. After all he's Colin's best man." I said.

"Yeah sure. Are you okay? I know that it's been rough this year." He said.

"Logan, I'm fine. There's no reason for anyone to come camp out at my condo." I said. "Listen let me know when you get in Thursday and maybe I can get out of the office early."

"Yeah sure." He said before I ended the call.

***End Flashback ***

When I walked into the Hartford Country Club it was no surprise that it was all decked out in elegance. Steph's mom had definitely gone overboard. I immediately found Steph and Colin by the bar. "Thank god you're here." Steph said as I approached them.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"My mom has already taken three Xanax. I'm freaking out." She said.

"Steph, it will be fine. Have a drink." I said and she raised an eyebrow at me.

"Are you okay? You actually seem… I don't know… relaxed maybe." Steph said.

"I'm fine." I said.

"Have you been drinking?" She asked me. I glared at her. "Okay sorry. We're all just a little worried about how your gonna handle seeing him tonight."

"Well I guess we're just gonna have to wait and see." I told her.

Finn POV

As I climbed out of my car at the Hartford Country Club, I suddenly felt nervous to see her after this time. Logan and Steph had assured me that she hadn't been dating. They told me that after I'd left that she'd focused on school and law school and starting at her family's firm. My mother had mentioned that she'd seen her a few times at various society functions and that she seemed good.

When I walked in, I quickly looked for my friends that I'd missed these last few years. I found them standing in a corner laughing about something. That's when I saw her. She had Steph standing on one side of her and Logan was on the other. I took a deep breath before I walked over to them. "Hello everyone." I said.

They all stopped and looked at me. "Finny!" Steph greeted me.

"Is she drunk?" I asked.

I noticed Rory look down at the floor while Colin was the one to speak up. "No she's not. Her mom is stressing her out so I may have slipped her a Valium." He said.

"Right. Logan, how's London?" I asked him.

"It's good. Busy but good." He said.

"Rory." I said, not really knowing what else to say.

She looked up at me and gave me a half smile. "Finn." She said.

I let out a breath that I didn't realize that I had been holding. I heard the band start a song. A song that I immediately recognized and knew that this was my opportunity. "Care to dance?" I asked her holding my hand out. She didn't say anything, just nodded and took my hand. I led her over to the dance floor and we started to dance. She smell just as I remembered she did. "How are you?" I asked her.

She looked up at me. "I'm okay. I'm not gonna lie… it was pretty bad for a while but it's been getting better." She told me.

"How bad?" I asked her, slightly afraid of the answer. If things had been bad why hadn't anyone told me.

"Finn…" She said barely above a whisper.

"I want to know."

She let out a sigh. "Last year when we graduated law school and Colin proposed to Steph…" She started and I could tell that this was hard for her. "I drank so much that I ended up in the hospital with alcohol poisoning. Steph and Colin lived with me until six months ago." She said.

I couldn't believe this. She could have died. "Why didn't anyone call me?" I asked her.

"I told them not to." She said.

"Why?"

"Why?" She asked me. I nodded. "Finn, when we broke up it was because your father was sending you to the other side of the world away from me. When you left it broke my heart. Up until Law school graduation the only thing I did was go to school, drink, work at the firm and occasionally visit Logan when he went to London because Steph was tired of seeing me depressed." She told me.

"I'm sorry." I said softly.

"I know." She said. "I heard you're in New York."

"Yeah, I wanted to call you but I wasn't sure if you would have wanted to talk to me." I said and it was the truth…partially. The other part was he wasn't exactly sure what he'd be coming home to.

"I honestly don't know if I would have. I mean I'd like to think that I would have answered the phone for you but I'm not sure." She said as the song finished. "I should probably check on Steph."

"Sure." I said letting her go and watched her walk away. I needed a drink.

Rory POV

After the dance with Finn I was feeling flustered. I needed some air so I made a beeline for the door. Once outside I just inhaled the cool air of the night.

"You okay?" I heard behind me.

I turned around to see Logan. I shrugged. "I don't know. I've been telling myself since Steph told me that he was gonna be Colin's best man that maybe if I saw him that everything would fall into place and that things could go back to the way that they were … before Australia. But being that close to him and talking to him it makes me think about the things that we've missed out on. Birthdays, holidays, anniversaries…he missed both of my graduations." I said. I let out a sigh. "I told him about my hospital stay." I told him.

Logan shoved his hands in his pockets. "Is he mad?" He asked me.

"Logan, you know he is. When he asked me why nobody called him I told because I told yall not to." I said.

"Why?" He asked.

"Logan come on."

"No Rory. You come on. We, me Colin and Steph have spent the last 3 years watching you dig yourself into a hole that you almost didn't come out of. All because you refused to get on a plane and go see him. I bet you didn't tell him about your first hospital trip either did you?" Logan said.

I rolled my eyes. "No, but even if I did it wouldn't matter, now would it." I said suddenly feeling angry at Logan.

"Ror, I didn't mean anything by it. You do realize that at some point the two of you are going to have to sit down and talk about the last three years, right?" Logan said.

"I know." I said, "I should get back in."

Finn POV

I was standing at the bar when I saw Colin approach me. "You okay?" He asked me.

"You guys told me that she was okay." I said taking a drink of my scotch.

"How much did she tell you?" He asked.

"The alcohol poisoning. Col, she could have died." I said.

"Before that happened, we had spent two years trying to get her to come see you. She wouldn't. Honestly man, you and her need to sit down… not in public and the two of you need to talk about everything." Colin said.

"Did you tell her?" I asked him.

He shook his head. "No. Logan and I promised you that we wouldn't. Although I still don't understand why you couldn't tell her that you were there." He said.

I let out a sigh. "Because it would have hurt too much when I had to leave again." I turned around at my place at the bar and Rory and Logan walking back in from outside. "What's going on there?" I asked him.

"Absolutely nothing. He and Steph are her two best friends. They accompany each other to social events when needed." Colin said as I watched her walk over to the table where Steph was sitting. "Like I said man, the two of you need to talk."

"Thanks."

Rory POV

When the end of the night had approached, I noticed that Logan had left with one of Steph's friends claiming that he'd see me in the morning. Colin had asked me if I would mind supervising the clean up as Steph's parents and already left and Steph was having a hard time staying awake. I told them that I'd see them in a couple of days, having given Steph the next day off because I knew that she would need it. I had just finished talking to the cleaning crew when I noticed Finn leaning against the far wall with his arms crossed. I walked over to him. "What are you still doing here?" I asked him.

"I wanted to talk to you before I left." He said.

I crossed my arms. "What's on your mind?" I asked him.

"Do you have any plans tomorrow? I'd like to sit down, the two of us and clear the air about the last three years." He said.

I couldn't help but notice that he looked just as good as he did when he left three years ago. "Sure. If you want you can come to the condo for breakfast. Unless that's too early." I said.

"No that's fine. I'm usually up at 5." He said. That was definitely different.

"Great. So tomorrow?" I asked and he nodded.

When I got home, I called mom knowing that she'd want to know how the night had been. "Hey kid." She said when she answered.

"Hey mom." I said sitting down on the couch and taking my heels off.

"How'd it go?" She asked.

"Overall it was pretty good. Colin ended up having to slip Steph a Valium though because her mom was stressing her out." I told her.

"Ah Valium and Champagne don't exactly mix well." Mom said.

"Exactly." I told her.

"How was he? Did you talk to him?" She asked.

I leaned against the back of the couch and let out a sigh. "It was nice. We danced and talked a little bit. He's coming over for breakfast in the morning so that we can talk about everything." I told her.

"Is that what you want?" She asked.

I thought for a moment. What did I want to accomplish out of our talk? "Yeah mom. It is. As much as I know that I want him back… I'm not the same person he left three years ago and even if he tells that he's seeing someone… he's still one of my closest friends." I told her.

"That you haven't seen or talked to in three years." Mom said. Ugh I did not want to have this fight with her. It was the same fight that we'd been having since my stint in the hospital.

"Don't worry so much mom. I'll call you tomorrow." I said before I hung up. I was anxious about tomorrow but I knew that it needed to happen. Whether Finn and I got back together at some point or we just remained friends It was something that needed to happen especially since we were both key players in Steph and Colin's wedding. Maybe the anxiety would be less in the morning.

When my alarm went off the next morning, I got up and went to start the coffee pot before jumping in the shower. When I got out of the shower and got dressed for the day, Logan was sitting in my kitchen drinking a cup of coffee. "Morning." I said.

He looked up at me. "Morning." He said. I poured myself a cup of coffee before I grabbed my phone and texted my assistant telling her to reschedule any meetings I had this morning and that I'd be in around lunch. Then I texted my dad and told him that I was taking the morning off. When I looked up at Logan he was staring at me.

"What?" I asked.

"So you and Finn are having breakfast." He said.

"How did you - you know what never mind. I don't wanna know." I said. I took a drink of my coffee. "When do you leave?" I asked him.

He looked at his watch. "Actually I gotta go now. I'll call you later." Logan said before grabbing his bag. He turned back and looked at me. "You need to tell him everything." He said.

I gave him a small smile. "Have a safe flight." I said.

A little while later, I was putting the last of the food on the table when I heard my doorbell. I walked to the front door and opened it. He stood there in a pair of dress pants and a polo shirt. Part of me wanted to jump into his arms and kiss him, but I knew that we needed to talk. I needed to tell him how hard things were when he left for Australia. "Hi." I said.

"Hi. You look nice." He said.

I smiled. "I have meetings later." I told him and he nodded. "Come in. I've already got the food on the table. He walked in and I closed the door behind him.

We walked to the kitchen and he looked around. "You cooked?" He asked me.

"Yeah. I don't rely solely on take-out anymore." I told him. He nodded. I poured us each a cup of coffee and we sat down at the table. "So how are you?" I asked him awkwardly.

"I want to know how bad it was. I want to know everything that happened from the time that I left until yesterday." He said.

I sat my fork down and leaned back in my chair. "The first thing that I need to tell you isn't going to be easy and I need for you to try not to be angry." I said. He looked up and me and nodded. I took a deep breath before I continued. "When you left, it was really hard on me. For the first few weeks I did nothing but go to school and drink. Then I woke up one morning and at first I thought that it was just a really bad hangover. So I tried to sleep it off. When I woke back up, I realized that it was something else. So Steph took me to the doctor. We found out the I was 6 weeks pregnant." I said trying to judge his reaction. When I first found out, I had been upset because you weren't there with me to share the news. But after about a week, I realized had started coming around to the idea there would be this tiny little person that would be the perfect combination of you and me and I knew that no what everything would be okay." I told him. I stopped for a minute to take a breath before I continued because I knew that this next part would be the hardest. "A month later, I went back to the doctor and they couldn't find the heartbeat." I said, feeling a few tears roll down my face.

It took a few minutes before Finn said anything which I knew that it would because he was processing everything. "You were pregnant…with our baby?" He asked slowly. I nodded. Before I knew it he stood up and came around the table pulling me from my chair into one of the best hugs that I've had in a long time. When he let go and stepped back from me, I looked up into his eyes. "I'm sorry I wasn't here and I'm sorry that you had to go through that." He said. The only thing I could do was nodded.
