She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl

Chapter VI

Sunday morning the overnight guests were slowly emerging from their rooms. Claire had breakfast set out in the dining room. Most of them fixed a plate and headed to the pato. Logan, Rory, and Mia were reading the paper. Rory and Logan were eating eggs and Mia had a bowl of cereal and a Pop-Tart. She was reading the comics. She liked looking at the comics, making up stories as she goes. She also likes to ask questions about what Logan and Rory were discussing in the newspaper.

As the morning dragged on, everyone headed back to their homes to get prepared for Monday morning. Rory and Logan both had already started checking and replying to emails. They have been doing that since they got home Saturday. Both hoping to lessen the burden of being away for two weeks.

The nanny they hired will be arriving this afternoon. They decided to put her on the top floor. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 baths on the top floor. Logan and Rory were in the office working on getting together the things that the nanny will need. Mia was outside helping Claire plant flowers. It was decided that Mia would finish this year out at her current school which was not too far from Rory's office. She will ride in with Rory and Logan. On occasion, one or the other will need to go in at a different time. Logan had his Porsche and a BMW 5K. They will be using Frank as much as possible. Kimmy, the nanny, will use Frank to pick up, drop off Mia.

Rory was working on a report. The numbers were emailed to her this week. She just needed to compile them to be ready in the morning. She heard the doorbell ring. She closed her laptop and cleared her desk. Logan walked in and Kimmy followed. They talked again about what is expected of her. What can not happen? Rory explained that Mia had age-appropriate chores and that she is to make sure Mia does them. They explained about Claire and Benjamin. They took Kimmy to meet Mia, Claire, and Benjamin. She talked with Mia for a little while. Claire showed her to her room and then gave her a tour of the house.

Rory was in the kitchen making herself a sandwich when her phone rang. She looked at the caller ID. "Hey Mom," She said. "Rory, we just got home and you are not going to believe what is on our answering machine," Lorelai said. "Well tell me so I won't have to guess," Rory said. "You had better sit down." "Okay, I am sitting down." She was actually just leaning against the counter, still making her sandwich. "Tristain," Lorelai said. She then heard a loud clang. "Rory, are you okay?" Lorelai asked. "Yeah, I just dropped my knife. I was making myself a sandwich." Rory said. "What did he say," Rory asked as Logan entered the kitchen. "You making me a sandwich?" Logan asked. Rory pointed to the phone. "He wants your number. He says he saw you and Logan in Belgium. He asked me to call you back. He said he was going to be in the states for Christmas and wants to see Mia. He left his number." Lorelai said. "Give it to me," Logan said. He wrote the number down. "Kid, what are you going to do?" Lorelai asked. "Call him. Find out just what he wants. Then set up a meeting with my lawyer." Rory said. "That's you, Dad," Lorelai said. "That's what you and he have been telling me all these years. Thanks for the heads up. I will give him a call." Rory said and hung up the phone.

Logan was watching Rory. "Babe, Can I give you my opinion?" Logan asked. Rory nodded. Nancy knew he was coming home. That is why she stopped you at our wedding. I think you need to meet with Nancy Tuesday as planned. Just explain to her that she, Jarlon, or Tristain can set up visits with Mia, but they have to be approved by you and have to be with someone Mia knows. At the diner with Luke, at the Inn with Lorelai or we can meet them with her somewhere. Let them visit. We don't have to be right under them, but in the building." Rory nodded. "I think I will suggest this to Daddy. See if it is possible to put that in writing." Rory said. "Do you think he maybe wants to give up his parental rights? He wouldn't have to pay child support. He knows you don't need it now. He could be worried that one of his enemies will find her and use her to get to him. He does have high government clearance." Logan asked.

Rory picked up the house phone and dialed the number Lorelai gave her. It went to voicemail. "Tristian, this is Rory. I am meeting your mother Tuesday for lunch. We will discuss Mia visiting while you are in the states. She will have the details." She hung up the phone. Logan wrapped his arms around Rory. "Hey, I will not let anything happen to her. Chris will not let anything happen to her. Hell, even Mitchum will stop Tristain or any of the Dugray's. You don't need to worry. I know you will but talk to me. Let me help you." Logan said then kissed her on the lips.

Logan and Rory went downstairs to find Mia in the kitchen with Claire, helping cook supper. She had a butter knife and was spreading garlic butter on the bread. Claire was just taking a casserole out of the oven, then she would put the bread in. "Well, look at my chef. Did you help Claire cook?" Rory asked. "Yes momma, I help her." "Well, I bet this will be the best supper I have ever eaten," Logan said. "Will you and Benjamin be joining us?" Rory asked. Claire smiled, "Not tonight. "I have a beef stew in the crockpot for us. But thank you just the same." Claire said. "If you will put the bread in the oven, we will get it out and you can go on home and feed Benjamin," Logan said. "Thank you, I will come back later and clean the dishes," Claire said. "No, you will not. I know how to run a dishwasher. Logan and Mia will help me. You have had a long week with the party and everything, "Rory said. "Are you sure?" Claire asked, looking at Logan. Logan smiled and nodded his head. "She is the Lady of the house."
