She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl
Chapter IX
The rest of the day went good. Mia would not leave Logan's side. As long as Logan was with her, she talked to Tristan and Nancy. Mia, Logan, and Tristan play a game of candy land while they wait to eat. Rory tried several times to take her from Logan but she wouldn't move. Tristan asked her questions about school and her friends. She even sat in a chair between Logan and Tristan. Tristan told her about some of the things that he encountered. She laughed at some of the things Tristan told her. She made sure to call Logan Daddy Logan and Tristan Daddy Tristan.
The evening came to an end. Tristan asked Mia if he could come by tomorrow to take her to the park. She told him no, she has a playground in her backyard, but he could come to play with her tomorrow if it was okay with Daddy Logan. Tristan agreed to come to play tomorrow.
Sunday morning Logan got up to use the bathroom. When he returned to bed, Mia was in bed with them. She was asleep in the middle of the bed. Logan smiled to himself. He was glad that Mia felt secure with him. It was still dark outside, so Logan laid back down. It wasn't long before he was asleep. The next time he woke up, it was with Mia pulling on his eyelids.
"What do you think you are doing?" He said. Mia jumped, then started giggling. Rory was awake, but just laying there watching them. She noticed it was raining. She grabbed her phone to check the weather. It was going to rain all day. She wondered if Tristain would come anyway. She was so happy that she and Logan found each other again. Logan and Mia were going to get breakfast, Rory told Logan that she would be down soon, she wanted to get a shower.
When she got the water just like she liked it, she stepped in. She left the hot waterfall over her. She could feel herself relaxing. She started thinking about how happy she was and how happy Mia was. She remembers the invitation to Emily's annual Christmas. Rory got it in the mail. She was expecting it for several reasons. She gets one every year, Emily left a message on her voicemail to let her know that she has hired a Nanny for the pool house. She then called again to make sure she got the message. If she had stopped long enough to think she would have realized that Emily was up to something, but she had just got promoted to editor in charge of features at the New York Times.
She and Mai arrived early as per Emily's request. Mai enjoyed spending time with her great-grandparents. She was in Richard's office with him. Rory was chatting with Emily. She had been introduced to the nanny. There would be several children at the party. The guest began to arrive. Richard and Mia were greeting guests with Emily and Rory. Emily requested that Lorelai arrive early also, but Lorelai dances to the beat of her own drum. Rory was at the bar getting her a drink, Mia was with Richard, talking business. Rory noticed Mitchum and Shira. This is the first time she can remember them being at The Gilmore Christmas party since she and Logan broke up at graduation, Mitchum was talking to Mia. Richard was holding Mia. She walked to where they were so she could relieve Richard from holding Mia. "Ms. Gilmore," Mitchum says. "I have had the pleasure of meeting your lovely daughter, Mia." Rory smiled. "Yes. She enjoys talking business with Grandpa. Mia, let's get you settled in the pool house with the nanny." Rory said, taking her from Richard. "I want to stay until Nana and Grandpop get here," Mia said with her lips poked out. "Okay, but you come with me. Grandpa can talk business without you. He doesn't always need your opinion." She put Mia on the ground and took her hand. She was straightening Mia's dress when she looked up. Logan was staring at her. She smiled and led Mia in the opposite direction.
Logan saw what she did. He cut her off on the other side of the room. "Ace, and look at this. Is this your daughter?" Logan asked. Rory took a deep breath. "Logan this is Mia, Mia this is Mr. Logan. Mia stuck her hand out for him to shake. "She has been following Grandpa around talking business. Logan smiles and stoops down to eye level. He took her hand and shook. "My name is Logan Huntzburger and I work in the media business. Do you know what that is?" "Media is newspapers and radio," Mia said. "Is that your grandpa that was talking to my Grandpa?" Mia asked, pointing to Mitchum. "No, that is my dad," Logan said. Mia smiled at him and took Rory's hand. "I see Nana," Mia said. "Logan you will have to excuse us, she wants to talk with her Nana before she is banished to the pool house with the rest of the children," Rory said as started walking toward Lorelai. "Ace, can we talk later?" Logan asked. Rory nodded.
Logan Huntzburger, she would like to say she hasn't thought of him in ages, but that would be a lie. She thought about Logan at her rehearsal supper when she was marrying Tristan. She thought of him while she was pregnant with Mia. She thought of him when she and Tristan got a divorce. She had googled him once, but couldn't bring herself to do it again. The pictures she saw were of him and a female. She later heard that he had married her and divorced her.
After getting Mia settled in the pool house, she went back to the bar to get another drink. She was staying with Emily and Richard tonight, so she didn't have to worry about driving back to New York. Logan approached her while she was waiting on her drink. "Ace, it is good to see you. Mia is an angel. Dad said she was helping Richard talk business. He said she was smart." Rory smiled. "Yes, she is. She is only 4, but she is reading at a 1st-grade level." "I'm sorry to hear about you and Tristan," Logan said. Rory smiled at him again. It was not hard to smile all the time around Logan. "Thank you." "Can we go somewhere and talk?" Logan asked. She looked around the room, "yeah, follow me." She grabbed his hand and led him to Richard's office.
Once they got in the office, Logan closed the door. Rory still had a hold of his hand. He liked that. They sat on the sofa. "I know what I want to say, but I am nervous," Logan said. "It's just me, Logan. Talk to me. We used to could have talked to each other about anything." "First I would like to apologize for what happened at your graduation. I was scared. I knew with you by my side, I could do anything." Logan said. "That is in the past. We were not ready to get married. You know that now, right?" Rory asked. He nodded his head. "According to the Hartford gossip, you are not dating anyone," Logan said. "Well, if the Hartford gossip says so it must be," Rory said. Logan smiled. "But, just to make it clear. I do date, but I am not dating anyone seriously. I just got a promotion at work and I have Mia. She takes up what time I am not at work. What about you?" She asked. "No, not anyone serious. I was married for a minute, but that didn't last." Logan said. "Same here," Rory said. They sat there in comfortable silence for a few minutes. "Ace, can I take you out on a date?" Logan asked. Rory sat there looking at him. "I am on my third martini, so I will blame it on that. Where are you living now. I mean are you still in London?" Logan answered her. "No, I have been in New York since the summer. I will be staying in New York. Mitchum is getting ready to step down." "Congratulations, you will be great. I would love for you to take me out on a date." Rory said. Logan was grinning from ear to ear. Rory put her hand up "But Logan, we can not be friends. I have enough friends. I have Mia. I can be played. I am not asking you to marry me, but you and I both know that one date will not be enough." Rory said. Logan was too in shock to answer her. "What I am saying is be sure you want a package deal. Me and Mia." Rory said and got up, walking to the door. "Think about it Logan, let me know." She opened the door and rejoined the party.
Later on in the evening as the party was winding down, she was dancing with Richard, when Logan asked to cut in. Rory had been watching him after their little talk in Richard's office. Richard stepped back and gave Logan Rory's hand. They started dancing, when that song ended, Rory was going to step back, but Moon River started playing. They danced to Moon River. Rory had her head on his chest. Logan stepped back and pulled her chin up so that he could look into her eyes. "I have thought about what you said. I wanted to answer you immediately in Richard's office, but I thought I would give you the courtesy of thinking about it. I want to take you out on a date. I want you and Mia to move in with me. I want us to be a family, but I think the best thing to do is to start with a date." Rory smiled at Logan. "Yes, I will go on a date with you."
