This and the next chapter were one long chapter. I decided to split it up. Okay. I know that this story has a lot of interaction with the kids. Let me know if you like that or should I concentrate on the adults. Let's hear it REVIEW. Love you guys much and more.
It won't be like this for long: Chapter 6
Chapter 6
When Rory and Logan were seated for lunch, Rory told him about the dinner party for Saturday night. She also told him about the money. Logan didn't have a problem giving April the money, but he would like to look into the business, maybe buy it from her. Rory agreed. She will contact Jess and April and go from there.
After lunch, Rory went back home while Logan went back to work. Rory was working on some edits for Whitney when she heard the kids come home. Time must have gotten away from her. She didn't realize it was time for school to be out. She decided that she has done enough for today, she is going to spend the afternoon with the kids.
Rory followed the noise to the kitchen. They were all at the table eating snacks and talking about their day. Olivia always made sure to have healthy snacks for them when school was out.
"I guess, by looking at the snack you are eating, that I am wasting my money paying meal plans at school?" Rory joked as she entered the kitchen.
"I'm a growing boy," Hayden said as he flexed his muscles. McKenzie poked him in the stomach while he was flexing.
"How much homework?" Rory asked. "I was thinking maybe we could spend some time together."
"I got tons," Mia said. She got up and took her plate to the sink and grabbed a bottle of water. "I'm going to change. I got to finish my American Lit. paper before the gang gets here." Mia said as she was washing her hands in the sink.
"Woah, I thought you had tons of homework," Rory said, Looking at Mia.
"I do. American Lit. paper. I want to finish it so you can look over it. Then, Katherine, Cathy, and Ryan are coming over." Rory looked at her with a raised eyebrow before she could finish. "We have to work on our business. In economics, the four of us partnered up. We have until Christmas break to finish. We have to write a business proposal. We are starting tonight. Deciding what type of business and what to name it will be the hardest part. That's what we are doing tonight" Mia told her.
"Okay, you can set it up in the basement," Rory said with a sigh as Mia ran off upstairs to change and get started on the American Lit. She looked over at McKenzie.
"I can spend time with you Momma," McKenzie said. Rory smiled at her.
"You don't have any homework?" Rory asked.
"Just a little," McKenzie said. Rory nodded her head.
"Go do your homework and if you want, when you finish, we will do something together."
Rory decides to go back to the office and work. Her children are at the age that they do not need her as much. Maybe she should ask Logan about working from his office at HPG, no, she would rather stay at home.
She heard some shuffling upstairs. Nothing unusual. She went back to reading over the email again when her phone rang.
"Hello, Lane. Sorry I didn't get to talk to you Sunday. I appreciate you calling me about Taylor's passing….What?...When?...Okay, We will be there. Thanks." She disconnected the call. She sat there for a minute or two debating with herself if she should call Jess or not. She should. She was scrolling through her phone looking for his contact information when it rang. It was Jess.
"I was just fixing to call you. I had my finger on the button… Yeah….Lane…..We will… Before you hang up, I talked with Logan. He wants to look at Anna's business plan. Her financial statements. He may want to buy the business…..Didn't you say April was selling?... Okay. We will talk about it later. See ya." And she disconnected the call.
Picked it back up and called Logan. He answered on the first ring. After a few pleasantries,(Flirting) Rory tells Logan about her phone calls. She told him that they had to be at a town meeting tonight. Taylor's Will will be read. Both Lane and Jess said rumors were flying all over Stars Hollow. Taylor owned a lot of property. She told him that both Jess and Lane suggested they be at the meeting. If for no other reason than she owned a business in Stars Hollow. Logan agreed. Told her he would be home shortly.
Next Rory heads to the kitchen to talk with Olivia. She explains that she and Logan will be out of the house tonight and she would appreciate it if she and Thomas hung around the house until they got back. She told her they could just order pizza or fix hot dogs. Whichever the kids want. She told her about Mia's project and that the kids should be here any minute.
Now to go upstairs and tell the kids that she and Logan would be out of the house tonight. She would need to remind them that Olivia and Thomas were in charge, and remind Mia that her guest will have to leave by supper time.
When Logan got home, Rory was upstairs getting ready for the meeting. He could hear the kids in the basement. He walked to the top of the basement stairs to speak with the kids. He saw McKenzie painting in her studio, as she calls it. Hayden playing Fortnight. What he didn't expect to see was Cathy, Katherine, Mia, and Ryan sitting around the card table. Mia and Ryan were too close for his liking.
"Hey, Kids. How's everyone's day?" He asked. McKenzie put her paintbrush down and untied her apron. She ran up the stairs to hug Logan. She begins to tell him about her day.
"I had a good day at school. At gym class today we played softball. I got to pitch. Ms. Jessi said I was good. She wants me to keep practicing and try out for the softball team next year. Missy said that was stupid because then I would get all sweety and have dirt on me. But I told her that I like playing softball and I want to play softball in high school so I can get out of class early and I get to have my picture in the yearbook…..So daddy can you practice with me. Maybe you can find someone that will give me lessons. If you do, I can do that instead of my riding lessons. Can I daddy?"
Logan was dizzy. When his youngest daughter started speaking, he could hardly keep up with her much less watch Mia and Ryan at the same time.
"Yeah, I think I want to try out for baseball next year," Hayden said. He never took his eyes off the game he was playing.
"Hayden, I can help you with that. Maybe I can come over and we can practice Saturday. Mckenzie, I will have to ask my sister, but she is a sophomore. She plays on the varsity softball team. I am sure she could help you." Ryan said.
This brought Logan back to watching Mia and Ryan. Mia was saying something to him and he was laughing. Rory is upstairs changing. I am sure she is aware of what is going on down here.
"Kenz, we will talk about this later with Mom, okay? You too Hay. Right now I have got to go get ready for a meeting at the town that houses escapees from a mental hospital" He took one last look at Mia, They made eye contact. He smiled. So did she. He left to go upstairs.
"Where is he going?" Ryan asked.
"Stars Hollow" Mia, Cathay, and Katherine said.
