It won't be like this for long: Chapter 9

Chapter 9

Logan and Rory made it home in time to kiss the twins good night. Mia was in her room reading. They both stopped to talk with her for a few minutes before heading to bed. Logan was in bed sitting up with his reading glass perched on his nose reading a book. He was like Rory, He liked the feel of a good book. Not so much the smelling part, but a good leather-bound book didn't smell too bad. Just don't tell Rory.

Rory was in the bathroom, going through her nightly routine. When she finished brushing her teeth, she turned the light off. Before going to bed she went to the hall, stood, and listened to the twins' even breathing. This is something she does most nights. When she is sure they are sleeping soundly, she knocks on Mia's door. When she opens it, she tells her it is time to turn the light out. She asked her if there is anything she needs or wants to talk about. Mia told her the mock business proposal was going well. Rory suggested she asked her daddy for help or advice. Mia told her she would. Rory kissed her goodnight and pulled the door almost to.

When she crawled in bed, instead of turning on her bedside lamp and picking up her book, she snuggled into Logan. He looked down at her. He put his glasses and his book away and turned off the light. He then situated himself so that he was holding her and she was cuddled into him.

"Do you want to talk about it?" he asked. She shook her head. He could feel a few teardrops falling on his chest. She had her head buried in his slightly graying chest hair. "I will call Collin tomorrow, I think you should call your dad. I think the more people we trust to read this, the better we will be. I am worried that Taylor….I'm sorry, you said you didn't want to talk about it. I love you, Ace, Good night." Logan lay there until he could tell that her breathing was evening out. Then he fell asleep.

The next morning, as Logan was stepping into the shower, have just come back from his run. Rory told him that she would call her dad today and she would appreciate it if he called Collin. She then asked him to call her when the copies of the contracts and Will arrived.

After Logan left for work and the kids left for school, Rory went to her office. She was having a hard time concentrating. Her mind kept wandering back to her childhood in Stars Hollow. She didn't know if it was because Taylor basically left her the town, or because Mr. Gordon talked so fondly of her mother. She finally decided to go see her dad. She called to find out if he was at the office or home.

Meanwhile, at HPG, Logan is on the phone with Collin. He tries to explain to him what happened. Because Collin has never had any dealings with a small town, he could not imagine someone inheriting a town. He could not imagine someone owned a town to be left to someone. Logan told him that he would call him when the package came in, then they could set up a meeting.

Before Logan's lunch was delivered, MaryBeth came to the door to let Logan know that he had a package that only he or Rory could sign. Logan had been so busy with this about Honor not being Mitchum's daughter that he forgot about the package. He told her to send him in. Logan signed for the package. Before he opened it, he called Rory.

"Hey Ace, I just received the package, I have not opened it yet, but I did talk to Collin. He could not understand. How someone could inherit a town….Okay, yeah, I ordered a sandwich from the deli down the street…..yes that will be fine…..see you then. I love you….." Logan ended the call.

Well, I guess I won't get any work done today. He had a few phone calls to make. He should be able to get them in before Rory and Chris get here. He called MaryBeth to tell her he ordered sandwiches and he was expecting Rory and Chris. He called the deli and ordered Rory and Chris sandwiches.

Rory ends the call with Logan. She had already tried to explain to her dad about inheriting the town. She told him that Logan received a copy of the paperwork. She asked him if he could go with her to Logan's office so he could examine the paperwork. He agreed. She grabs her coat and they head out the door.

This would be a first for Chris also. Like Colin, Chris has never dealt with inheritance like this. Rory is inheriting a lot of property from a non-relative. This inheritance will affect a lot of people, a whole town. While Rory drove, Chris was looking online to see if by chance the town charter was online.

"Rory, Stars Hollow is a town, but it is not incorporated. It is considered a suburb. I don't think I will be able to find a town charter, but I should be able to find the town ordinances." He continued to look online. "I think we may find out that Taylor Dorsey had little power as a selectman…..This could get interesting." Chris said as he continued to bookmark sites on this phone.

When they arrived at Logan's office, MaryBeth told them to go on in. Logan was sitting at the conference table in his office with papers scattered all over the table eating a sandwich. He looked up when they came in.

While Logan was waiting on Rory and Chris, he had MaryBeth scan the paperwork into his computer and email it to Collin. He now had Collin on the phone. They were looking over everything.

"Hey Ace, Chirs, Come in. Help yourself to a sandwich." Logan said as he stood to kiss Rory. They sat back down. Rory picked up a sandwich while Chris grabbed the folder Logan had gestured to. "I got Collin on speaker. I scanned the papers." Logan told them after swallowing his bit of sandwich and wiping his mouth.

Collin told them to look over the paperwork. He would call them back in a few minutes. He had a call he needed to take. They ate and talked about how this could happen.

"I think that Taylor wanted to make sure the town had the funds that it needed to survive. I think he knew Rory had the money or access to the money to put into the town so that it does not turn into a ghost town." Logan said, finishing the last bite of his sandwich.

"I agree. Having spent a little time in Stars Hollow, Taylor was always raising money for one thing or another. Yeah, I'm sure you are right. Chris said.

Rory started to say something when Logan's cell phone started ringing. It was Collin. Logan answered it, then transferred it to the big screen on the wall. Now, Collin was in the room.

"Okay," Collin said. "I had a phone call to take and then I needed to read through this paperwork you sent," Collin said from the big screen.

"Wait a minute," Rory said interrupting. "I want to address what Logan and Dad just said about Taylor." Everyone's attention was on Rory.

"This is what neither of you understood about Stars Hollow. The fundraiser, the festivals, This was Taylor's way of keeping the town close. Mom used the dance marathon fundraiser as an excuse that we could not go on a trip with Grandma and Grandpa. My Grandpa called Taylor, he offered to pay for the bridge to be repaired if he would call off the dance marathon. Taylor wouldn't agree. Ms. Patty told me about it. I asked Grandpa. He said yes he did, but not to tell Mom because it would give her another excuse to hate him." Rory looked so sad. Logan stood up and went to her.

"I guess we just have to experience Stars Hollow," Chris said as Logan stood behind Rory with his hands on her shoulder.

"Okay, So what do we do?" Collin asked.

"I have some ideas," Rory said, "but I need to know what I can legally do?"

Rory told them a couple of ideas she had. While Chris and Colin gave advice on the legal end, Logan helped her figure out the logistics.

I know you want to know what ideas Rory has for the town. Me too. I have a few, but I need help. Tell me what you think.
