Chapter 25
Rory POV
The holidays had been rough. They had kept us busy but Finn and I had also gotten into a fight. I sat on the plane and thought back to Christmas Eve.
***Flashback… Christmas Eve***
Things weren't going well with the renovations that Finn was having done at the Hartford offices. Tonight we were celebrating Christmas with Finn's family and then we were heading to Stars Hollow and staying with Mom and Luke to celebrate tomorrow. I was sitting on the edge of the bed putting my shoes on when I heard the front door. A minute later, he came walking into the bedroom. "Hey I'm just about ready. Are you going to change or are you going like that?" I asked him.
"I gotta change. You know this thing at my parent's house isn't a big deal right?" He said.
I look at him curiously. "What's wrong? You saying that you'd rather have me show up in jeans and a sweater?" I asked him. He seemed irritated and I felt like he was taking it out on me.
"It's just been a long day and I really don't want to go to my parent's house." He said sitting on the edge of the bed.
"Okay… care to explain?" I asked him.
"Brandon showed up at my office today." He said and I nodded. "He thinks that I'm running the company into the ground."
"Why?" I asked.
"He thinks that you're the one that convinced me to move the corporate offices to Hartford and he doesn't like the fact that I sent him to run the Boston office." Finn said.
"You told him differently right?" I asked.
Finn stood up and started yelling. "OF COURSE I DID BUT IT DOESN'T MATTER. HE'S GOING TO THE BOARD. HE'S TRYING TO HAVE ME THROWN OUT!"
"Why are you yelling at me? I didn't cause this. I didn't asked you to move your offices. I told you, you didn't have to move to Hartford. You made that choice…you! Brandon is pissed off because your father handed you that company instead of him." I said. I stood up and walked over to the doorway. "You better get changed, we don't wanna be late." I said before I walked out of the bedroom.
A little while later, we were walking into Finn's parent's house. I'd handed my coat to the maid and we made our way into the sitting room. It was really quiet. "Oh Rory good you're here." Liza said to me. I walked over and sat on the couch across from her and Brandon. Brandon glared at me.
"What's up?" I asked Liza.
"Okay so I found this really awesome rental space for my studio but I need a lawyer to look over the contract before I sign it and Dad suggested that I talk to you." Liza said.
"Totally. Bring it by my office on Monday. After we can get lunch." I said.
"Perfect." Liza said as Finn walked over and handed me a glass of wine.
I smiled at him. That's when everything happened. Brandon scoffed. "You got a problem?" Finn asked him.
He crossed his arms. "I'm just wondering why she's here? I mean she hasn't been around for the last three Christmas' so why now." Brandon said.
I looked down at my glass. "This isn't about Rory being here and you know it." Finn said.
Brandon glared at him. "Then what's it about?" Charlotte asked.
I looked over at her. "Brandon is trying to have Finn thrown out. He went to the board." I said.
"You need to mind your own business. This is family stuff." Brandon said.
I'd had enough. I stood up. "You know what, I'm here because your mother invited me. And Finn told me about your visit to the board because my firm represents the company. So… I suggest if you plan on actually trying to over throw your brother that you better have proof and documentation to back it up or else your looking at a hell of a lawsuit." I said. Once I tried to control my breathing I turned and looked at Charlotte. "I'm sorry, Charlotte. That was extremely disrespectful." I said before I sat back down.
Charlotte looked like she was about to speak but before she could James spoke up. "Brandon, I don't know what has gotten into you but you will apologize to Finn and Rory. Then first thing Monday morning you and I will visit the board and you will tell them that you were mistaken and that you think that Finn is doing amazing things with the company." James said.
"But Dad -" He tried to say but James cut him off.
"That or write your letter of resignation." James said and I looked at him shocked.
Brandon nodded, and then he looked at Finn and I. "I'm sorry." Brandon said.
The rest of the evening had been quiet. We had drinks, dinner and then we opened presents. When the evening started winding down, James walked out to the car with us. "I want to thank you for what you said earlier. Brandon can be a bit of a hot head and so can Finn. But you stood your ground in there and you stood up for Finn. I couldn't ask for anything more in a potential daughter in law." He said before he kissed my cheek.
Once we were in the car, I turned and looked at Finn. "What just happened?" I asked.
"That was the closest thing that we will ever get to having his blessing for anything." Finn said and I nodded.
The ride to Stars Hollow was quiet. "I'm sorry about earlier." Finn said as we passed the Welcome to Stars Hollow sign.
I looked over at him. "For which part?" I asked. If he was going to apologize I wasn't going to make it easy for him.
He reached for my hand and interlaced our fingers. "For yelling at you. I took my problems with Brandon out on you and it's not your fault." He said. "And I'm sorry for that."
"Your forgiven." I said as we pulled into mom's driveway.
***End Flashback****
As I walked into our hotel room, I took in the view. Finn had managed to get us booked into several suites beside each other. "What do you think?" Finn asked me as I walked over to the balcony door and opened it.
"It's beautiful." I said.
I felt Finn wrap his arms around my waist. "Things have been rough the last couple of months and this trip is about letting all of that go and just relaxing." He said before he leaned down and kissed my neck. "Ever since I saw your notebook, I've been thinking about our future. If I'm being honest, I've been thinking about it since before I went to Australia. I've made some mistakes in the past, Ror, and one of the mistakes that I made was not asking you to come to Australia after you graduated. Instead of us breaking up, I should have tried to find a way to make us work." He said. I turned in his arms so that I was facing him. "I never want that to happen again."
"It won't. You're home now." I said.
I stood up on my tippy toes and gently kissed him. "I have a present for you." He said.
He let go of me and walked over to his suitcase. I didn't move from my spot. He dug through his bag and a few minutes later, he came back. It was a small box. He opened it. "Ror, I have loved you since the moment that I met you. Over the years that we have known each other, I find myself loving you more each and every day. I know what it feels like to lose you and I don't ever want to feel that again. I love that you are the first face that I see in the morning and the last one that I see at night." Finn said, and I could feel the tears building up in my eyes. I had waited for this. "Rory Gilmore-Hayden, you are the love of my life, my soulmate. Will you marry me, have a family with me and grow old with me?" He said.
I had waited for this moment for so long. I had known long ago that Finn was it for me. That was the reason that I hadn't dated while he was in Australia. It was also the reason that I'd never gone to Australia to visit him. I knew that the short visits would be too hard and that I wouldn't want to leave him.
I could feel the tears falling down my face at this point. I put my hand on his cheek. "I love you Finn. There is no one else that I would rather spend my life with. Your it for me. I've known it since I graduated, the first time, when I got your flowers. It made my day that even though, you weren't there…well I didn't know you were there…I knew it then just like I know it now. Your it for me. You're the only one that I've ever pictured this life with." I said.
Finn leaned his forehead against mine. "Is that a yes?" He asked.
I nodded against him gently. "It's a yes." I said. Finn took the ring out of the box and gently slid it on my finger. "It's beautiful."
"Not as beautiful as you." He said.
A little while later, Finn and I were sitting on the couch that was on our balcony enjoying our time together. He was leaning against the armrest, and I was sitting in front of him leaning back against his chest. He kissed the side of my head. "I do have one more question for you." He said.
"What?" I asked.
"What do you think about getting married before we go home?" He asked me.
I sat up and turned to look at him. His face said it all. "Your serious?" I asked.
He nodded. "Yeah. I don't want to wait. When we go home, I want it to be with you as my wife." He said.
I thought about it for a minute. Finn and I had wasted so much time apart from each other, and despite his father's intentions, I truly believe that we would have been fine. "Then let's do it." I said.
Finn POV
That night when we met up with everyone for dinner, Rory and I decided to tell them of our plans for the week that we would be here. "So, Finn and I have an announcement and a plan. So, please hear us out. This afternoon, Finn proposed and I said yes." I said and everyone cheered. "We've also decided that we'll be getting married while we're here. We don't want to wait and we
don't want a big wedding. So…are you guys in?" Rory said.
I watched as our friends and the few family members that had come with us looked around at each other. My father was the one to speak up. "We're in." He said.
"Great." I said. "We have a lot to do in the next couple of days."
After dinner, Rory and I had decided to take a walk on the beach. I felt like everything was finally how it should be. She was the love of my life. She was the one that I was meant to be with. She was the only one that I'd ever want to live this life with. We'd been through so much together since we'd met. She could have easily ended up with Logan when I'd gone to Australia and I wouldn't have blamed her. But she loved me just as much as I loved her. She hadn't been with anyone since I'd left for Australia. And I was grateful for that. We'd lost a child because she was heartbroken over me leaving her. But I was determined to make sure that, that never happened again.
I guess that I'd been lost in my thoughts that I didn't hear her say my name. "Did you say something?" I asked.
"So I have something that I need to tell you." She said. We stopped walking. "It's not bad I promise." She said.
"Okay." I said.
"Alright, so…I woke up this morning feeling sick. I threw up a couple of times while you were gone to the gym. Anyway, I took a pregnancy test. It was positive." She said.
"Your pregnant?" I asked her.
She nodded. "We're having a baby." She said, placing my hand on her stomach.
"This day just got better." I said, leaning down and kissing her.
