She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl

Chapter 14

Monday morning came early. They had gotten into a routine. They were all sitting around the breakfast table when Mia sneezed. "Are you getting sick?" Rory asked, feeling her head. "You don't feel warm. Do you feel bad?" Rory asked. Logan had put down his paper to check on Mia. Mia told her that she felt fine. "This was the last week of school until January. Christmas was coming upon us fast." Rory said. "Do you think we should keep her out of school today?" Logan asked. He wasn't sure how it worked. "Look at me. Let me look into your eyes." Rory told Mia. Mia rolled her eyes. "I can't see your eyes if you roll them," Rory said laughing at her. Rory looked. She looked fine to her. "Claire, are you still in the kitchen?" Rory asked. Claire walked around the corner. "Yes, Ma'am." "Would you feel of Mia? Tell me if you think she is warm. She sneezed a few minutes ago." Rory said. Claire picks Mia up out of the chair and sits down, putting Mia in her lap. Claire held her close to her and put her cheek next to Mia's cheek. She then told Mia to look her in the eyes. "Ms. Rory, I think she is fine. She is not warm, her eyes look fine."

Rory, Logan, and Mia were on the way to the City. Rory wanted to drop Mia off first. She wanted to talk with Ms. Pennye about Mia. To make sure they called her if she started feeling bad. Mia sang to them the whole way to the City. Traffic was not bad. The 15-minute drive only took 30 minutes. After Rory returned to the car from talking with Ms. Pennye, Logan and Rory continued their discussion on whether Mia could go to Hartford this weekend. Logan didn't think it was a good idea. Rory wasn't sure. She needs to think about it some more.

Logan and Rory both got out of the car at the Times. They rode the elevator together. Rory got off on the 23rd floor. Logan was going all the way to the 25th floor. Rory gave Logan a quick kiss before getting off the elevator. Harper met Rory at her office. They discussed Rory's schedule for the day. Then they tackled the week. Harper reminded Rory that she was taking Friday off to go wedding dress shopping with her mom and her bridesmaid. Rory wished her luck but told her to remind her again closer to Friday.

It was almost lunchtime. Rory had called the school to check on Mia. They told her she was fine. She has been playing with the other kids. Nothing unusual. Rory was staring at her computer. Reading an email that she just got from one of the reporters. She had a niece that needs an internship this summer. She had attached her resume. Harper knocked on the door. Rory looked up. She thought that she was going to tell her she was going to lunch. Rory was going to get her to bring her something back. Harper told her that she was needed on the 25th floor. Mr. Baquet's office. Harper raised an eyebrow. Rory shook her head. "Logan had a meeting with Dean this morning. He probably wants to take me to lunch. But, I need you to mumm the word right now. I will fill you in as soon as Logan says I can."

Rory grabbed her coat and purse, slipping her laptop in her purse, and walked to the elevators. When she got off on the 25th floor, she walked toward Dean's secretary. " Rory Gilmore to see Mr. Baquet." The secretary looked at her, then motioned for her to go ahead. "They are waiting for you. Rory and Logan had decided that Rory would continue to work under the name Rory Gilmore. This would stop a lot of gossips. When she entered the room Logan was sitting at a conference table along with Dean and Mr. Murdoch. The three men stood up to greet Rory. "Mrs. Huntzburger, it is nice to see you today." Mr. Murdoch said. Rory nodded her head at him. Logan pulled a chair out for her to have a seat.

"Ace, I'm sure you are wondering why you were called to Dean's office today," Logan said. "I want to know, what do you think about me selling this paper to your husband.?" Mr. Murdoch asked. "Is it going to make him lots of money? Is it going to affect my job in any way?' Rory asked. "If the answer is yes and no, then I don't have a problem with it." Mr. Murdoch laughed. "That right there is why I hired you." He said.

"Ace, hum. I like that nickname." Dean said. "I haven't heard you call her that since my days at Yale." Logan smiles. "I am going to buy the paper. Right now, I am going to leave everything like it is. After everything is finalized, I will meet with each department. After that, my communications will be with Dean. You don't have to worry about people thinking you slept your way to the top. Dean has been instructed not to show you any favoritism." Logan said. "Are you sure you are going to be okay with this?" Mr. Murdoch asked. Rory smiled, "I don't see it being a problem," She said. "It won't be long before you will be quitting to have Huntzburger babies." Mr. Mucrdoch said. Rory just smiled at him. Rory and Logan have decided not to have any children. Logan told Rory that Mia was enough. He did not want Rory to have to go through what she did with Mia. No one is privy to this conversation, so they still get the 'when are you going to have a baby.

"Would you like to go to lunch with us? You are one of my top editors. Nothing unusual for us to take out an editor." Mr. Murdoch said. Rory told them that she would go to lunch with them. On the way to the elevator, Logan asked if she talked with the school this morning and if Mia was okay. She told him that Ms. Pennye said she was fine. She was playing.

They got in a limo and went to lunch at the Around the Curve Restaurant. No one even turned their head at one female with 3 males going to lunch. This is New York. Nothing unusual for a female executive to have lunch with males.

They were finishing up lunch when Rory heard someone call her name. She turned around to see her Grandpa. Rory stood up and hugged him. It does not matter how high up the corporate ladder she climbs, she will always have time for her Grandpa. "Grandpa do you know Mr. Murdoch and Mr. Baquet?" "Yes, Rory, I have known James for years. How is the family?" He asked. Mr. Murdoch replied. "Everyone is great. Richard, have a seat." He said. "No, thank you. I have to get back to my lunch meeting. I just saw Rory and wanted to speak." Richard kissed her on the cheek. "Give Mia a kiss for me." He then returned to his table. "I guess I am getting old. I forgot you are Richard and Emily's granddaughter." Mr. Murdoch said.

They finished their meal and went back to work.
