So I wasn't as hyped as other InuYasha fans with the Yashahime series, Towa and Setsuna are the main duo and Moroha seemed way too OP for my liking. But it did get me thinking, of if InuYasha and Kikyo had a daughter together, of a life they could have had if Naraku never ruined it.
Kikyo's reaction to being a mother and InuYasha's reaction to being a father
Lots of fluff, please follow, favourite and review
Kikyo rubbed her swollen stomach protectively, she never thought life like this would be possible for her, from the moment she discovered her powers as a priestess, the destiny before her, the life of fighting demons. She knew she would be sacrificing normality, a peaceful existence that so many were blessed with. She had watched so many other girls her age buying perfume, falling in love, marrying off and experiencing their own happy endings. She could have never predicted she would be able to live out a normal life. She had pushed all forms of selfish life away, any inhibitions that may deter her from the path of a priestess, which was what allowed her to become so strong. But her life had changed so abruptly, deterring from the path she believed she would be forced to endure. That love would consume her life the way it had, that she would be blessed with such happiness.
She was resting on her futon, though she was only four months along and her bump wasn't very noticeable, she was still protective over her child and made sure that she didn't perform painfully strenuous duties which would harm her unborn baby. Their village was protected by her barriers, the temple warding off demons from causing her home harm. But she hadn't been able to act as tentatively and follow routines the way she used to. But that didn't mean her stresses had been excelled, if anything they had lessened. Since becoming involved with InuYasha, she had welcomed him into her home, sharing her hut with him and Kaede. Giving him the home he had longed for since his mother died, a safe place with a warm fire, food and shelter. Living among humans in content, watching them live their lives yet never being seen as an outcast. Much like herself, through her influence they had come to see the good in him. He had helped protect and babysit the children of the village who were fascinated by his ears and powers, instead of being afraid of him seeing him as a hero. InuYasha helping to protect the village from demons, but also helping with chores such as hunting for food and other tasks, making sure herself and the village never ran out of harvest. She was endlessly grateful for all the help he had offered herself and Kaede.
Abruptly, she felt a familiar wave of nausea wash through her body, dragging her from her internal debate. Gripping the wooden bucket by her bedside as cold sweats ran down her body, heaving as she prayed she wouldn't vomit yet again. She had little to no food in her body left to give her the nourishment herself and the baby needed, the morning sickness was unpredictable and sometimes though she could be violently sick, other times she was merely nauseous and weak. Though she had aided in the birth of numerous babies in the village and helped pregnant village women before, she had never known she would experience such strenuous pregnancy symptoms in such a profusely draining way. But she didn't regret it, not for one second, she would never want another life, she would never wish for anything different. To be carrying the child of the man she loved within her womb, it was a gift. Many children were curious about her pregnancy, asking questions about what it was like, the innocence of children, seeing a new mother. Welcoming a new child into the village, especially one from someone they all greatly admired for protecting them. Villagers offering congratulations and telling tales of what their child would become.
But it wasn't without its negative aspects, how her life had been shattered from the illusion of predictability, an enormous pressure placed on her shoulders. She had become slowly aware of her changes, the changes to herself but also her body. The subtle changes now becoming more prominent, causing InuYasha to become fiercely protective over his mate and unborn child. She remembered how much he cried from happiness when she told him of her pregnancy, hugging her stomach and cuddling her. Their child wouldn't be like any of the other village offspring, her child would follow a different path than normal children, a rarity born into this world. Their child would be the first quarter demon in known existence, most likely Hanyo's had created offspring before, but it was never documented. Carrying one-quarter of demon blood and three-quarters of human blood, born with her innate spiritual power, the infant of an infamously powerful priestess and a half-demon. The daughter of the son of the great dog Daiyokai general of the western lands, the child of the previous guardian of the Shikon jewel.
She couldn't help but worry about the life their child would lead, the expectations placed upon their shoulders, just like she had never wished for her powers, their child would be robbed of that choice too. How they would learn to control their powers? If any enemies who harboured grudges towards herself or InuYasha may come after their child, putting their life in danger. Kikyo felt her child stir within her belly, sensing her anxiety, trying to comfort her while still in the womb. She stroked her stomach, hoping to calm her baby. She loved InuYasha deeply, more than she ever had anyone before, he was her soulmate, he kept her grounded, he made her feel safe. Allowing to her act on her selfish desires that she had once repressed. InuYasha was her first love, the first man to ever steal her heart, her equal, a mutually lonely soul forced to fight and hide their true nature. The father of their unborn baby, but she couldn't repress the fear that gnawed at the back of her mind. The fear of the unknown paths of their future, what fate had in store for them. She had heard numerous tales from her husband of his past, the stigma he had endured and faced due to being a half breed, his own brother casting him aside leaving him to fend for himself. But what about a quarter demon? What kind of pain would her baby know for that?
InuYasha entered the hut a satchel of herbs in hand, his nose had allowed them to locate them in no time, memorizing a recipe his mother had used once before. He'd been in the forest hunting for medicine for his mate, he knew Kikyo had been suffering from nausea and morning sickness rather badly. Reassuring him she was fine, despite the fact she could barely leave her bed due to her poor health. Which due to the scent made him all the more convinced she was carrying a girl, knowing that girls put extra strain on the mothers during pregnancy. He'd been foraging for hours, locating herbs for nausea, as well as a wild boar for their dinner, hoping to surprise her. He saw Kikyo resting in her bed and smiled, her already soothing scent had become stronger, pheromones exuding from her. He couldn't deny her beauty which had caught him off guard before had only become more seductive during motherhood. His love for Kikyo only growing stronger, this woman who opened her heart to him. InuYasha approached his mate fondly, kissing her cheek before tending to his spoils "Tadaima Kikyo" he responded fondly.
Kikyo smiled weakly, comforted that her husband had returned and she could feel comfort in knowing she was safer "Okaeri, InuYasha" she greeted weakly. She wished she could do more to help, grateful that he was helping to take care of her. Yet feeling guilty that he had become not only the current protector of the village but provider for herself, himself and Kaede.
Kaede approached her sister's bedside with a concerned look, though she was knowledgeable on herbs through her sister, she had learned much from InuYasha too. She was very excited to be an auntie to her sisters baby. She was so happy that InuYasha and his sister were now married and expecting a child, her sister becoming even stronger and happier than she was before. But she couldn't help but feel concerned for her sister's health "Onee-chan, are you feeling ok?" she questioned impatiently, she looked pale and tired.
Kikyo stroked her sister's cheek and smiled back at her "mere morning sickness Kaede, I shall survive" she soothed. Her body was experiencing changes due to the baby inside of her, this was nothing to be concerned over. But she appreciated how much Kaede wanted to help, trying to make her life easier and prepare for the arrival of the baby. She'd asked for the villagers help, creating a wicker basket for the baby to sleep in.
Kaede smiled proudly, she knew her sister was strong, and her baby would be even stronger, once she was older she could teach the baby the same way Kikyo had taught her. This baby would not only look to her sister and InuYasha for mentorship, but also herself "It's gonna be a girl, I know it" Kaede announced proudly. She had a gut feeling, everyone thought Kikyo would bear a son, but she knew better. Their baby would be the prettiest girl in the village, wondering if she would resemble Kikyo or InuYasha the most. InuYasha chuckled as he prepared the medicine, he and Kaede both had the strong intuition that Kikyo would bear him a daughter. They hadn't yet chosen a name but he had a few in mind. He approached Kikyo, slowly positioning her to rest on his chest as he knelt behind her, making sure she was comfortable. Holding the medicine up to her mouth and allowing her to sip slowly, making sure not to spill a single drop. It was a medicinal tea he had found among his mother's old recipes, one for morning sickness. No doubt she had consumed this while she was pregnant with him, the ingredients included dried or fresh ginger root as well as Ginseng, two herbs that helped with nausea. Adding mint for the strong flavour, a new addition of his own, boiling down all the ingredients into a tea making it easier to consume. Though his mother had probably made it into a potion of dried ingredients. Kikyo sipped the brew gently, the taste was strong and yet refreshing, knowing these herbs would do herself and the baby good. Her nausea already starting to ease away, becoming more tolerable. She felt so loved, so protected, InuYasha always took such good care of her, as if she was something fragile. Fearing she would only grow more selfish due to her desire to never leave his side.
InuYasha laid curled up beside his mate on their futon, rubbing her stomach protectively as Kaede slept nearby, the long day of travelling wearing her out. The scent of the roasting pig filling the hut and the warmth of the fire comforting them. "InuYasha, are you afraid?" Kikyo questioned solemnly, she had never shown weakness to her sister, only to him. She could lower her guard to InuYasha and relieve herself of the pressures she withheld from others. She never had to lie to him, she never had a reason to doubt him. It was her first time as a mother, her first time carrying and giving birth to a child, bringing a new and innocent life into the world. Among war, bloodshed, famine and enemies, be they human or demon. She knew many children had become orphans, separated or died during these times. Watching many children go about their lives, she herself had lost her parents at a young age, raising Kaede alone. She wanted her child to be safe, she couldn't bear the thought of harm coming to her baby.
InuYasha blushed, he'd never shown fear to anyone, he could never afford such a risk. Staying alive had been his mission ever since he became an orphan ever since his mothers death. Never in his life had InuYasha predicted he would fall in love, that he would ever have a family, a child, a life, peace. Fighting was all he had known for so long, it was woven into the very fabric of his being. His father had died before he was born, never knowing anything more than his name, his appearance, his scent, his voice, all of that was alien to him. His mother had died from frail health when he was a pup, his half brother loathed his existence. But Kikyo accepted him, loved him, his first love, his wife, his mate and now the mother of his child. "You really gotta ask?" he huffed awkwardly, staring into the distance as he wondered through his thoughts. Yes he was scared shitless, but weren't all new parents?
Kikyo shifted, InuYasha still squeezing her hand reassuringly, slowly forming the words that lingered on her mind. Her brown eyes were intense and full of conflict, her dormant emotions fighting to break free "I'm afraid…." she trailed off, "… This child will be special, not only the child of a half-demon, You, the son of a DaiYokai but the child of a priestess. Our union will birth a special child, capable of harnessing spiritual power" Kikyo reflected. She knew DaiYokai had a higher ruling over common demons, able to take on a humanoid form compared to the commonly known monstrous ones she had fought before. They were like royalty among the demon hierarchy, the top of the food chain. Making InuYasha a legal prince, which she found both amusing and surprising.
InuYasha softened, understanding her anxieties, though half-demons were the most common offspring in terms of hybrid children, there had never been a record of a half-demon and a human bearing a child. It was more common for half-demons to find the power to become a full demon, or mate with a demon mate with whom accepted them or used them for power. More so, it was unheard of for a priestess of all people to mate with a half-demon and bear his child, priestesses, monks and priests had been enemies of demons since the beginning of time. Her fear was natural, she was a first-time mother and she wasn't experiencing an average pregnancy, her profuse spiritual power would allow her to sense the demonic nature and spiritual power of her baby too. He wrapped his arms around Kikyo tightly, pressing her against his chest, breathing in her familiar scent "No matter what happens, I'll protect you both with my life. You've raised Kaede well, she's a smart kid. We're both running blindly into unknown territory and we're both scared shitless. But I promise you, we'll be fine" he soothed. He would always choose Kikyo, he would always come running to her and he would always find her. This village was now his home, he had forged his place here and he knew it was where he belonged. Kikyo was his mate, Kaede had become like a sister to him, he would never let anyone touch Kikyo or his unborn baby. He would protect the village with his life, he would make sure nobody got near his wife. He knew his father had done the same for his mother upon her pregnancy, now he was following in his footsteps. He had no idea of what kind of father he would be, he had no idea of what lessons, what role and what life he would have with his daughter. But his child would be devotedly loved, she would be the moon, his stars and his whole world.
Kikyo's eyes became glassy with tears, she believed him, she believed every word, aware he was always right. But she had lost her parents when she was but a girl, she had no worldly parental advice she could bestow on her child. Her child would never understand what it was like to be fully human, nor fully demon. What if they hated her for giving them powers, for giving birth to them? "What if they resent us? Resent me?" she stammered anxiously. She had always been aware of her difference from other girls, how Tsubaki despised her, how Kaede admired her, but how she was never able to fit in. Her child would experience these feelings too, because of her.
"Don't talk like that" InuYasha growled, it still hurt him how Kikyo could never see how perfect she was in his eyes. How powerful she was, how loved she was, how many people admired her. She gave him hope in humanity, allowing him to see how flawed yet redeemable people could be. He cupped Kikyo's face to gaze into his eyes, stroking her cheek tenderly. "You raised Kaede alone, you taught her how to be a priestess, how to be a good person. You're a kind person Kikyo, you worry endlessly about others, you worry about how your actions affect the entire village. You've been mother and sister to Kaede your whole life. This baby will love you, just like I do, I know it" he soothed. He remembered the first time he saw that heartbroken lonely gaze in Kikyo's eyes, how he knew that moment he could never leave her alone.
Kikyo gripped InuYasha tightly, tears of happiness spilling down her cheeks, he always saw the best in her even when she forgot it existed. When she lost herself to doubt, when stress accumulated, he always reminded her of how special she was. She loved their unborn baby as much as she loved him, both were so precious to her. She was excited for their new family, their new life together, the father he would become, the life they would lead, she knew she could face anything alongside him. "I love you InuYasha" she whispered, she meant every word, she felt it every second of her life, that fluttering feeling in her stomach and that passion in her chest. Stroking her bump gently, resting against him wearily. Their paths had aligned in a way neither could have expected, nobody could have known fate would bring them together. But their destiny became happier than either of them could have known. One day they would both relive their love story to their future child, leading them to meeting their future soulmate.
InuYasha nuzzled her hair fondly, feeling her instantly calm in his embrace, he knew her body would be a cocktail of different feelings, her hormones and anxiety turning manic due to the baby. Kikyo had been overjoyed to learn she was pregnant with his baby, but she was afraid of the future their child would face after he told of what he dealt with growing up. Her feelings were natural, the maternal instinct to preserve her child, to protect them from the dangers life would throw at them. But they would get through it together, he would never allow her to feel alone. "I'm right here, I always will be" he soothed, this woman meant everything to him, their souls intertwined. He slowly pulled Kikyo closer, capturing her lips in a loving kiss, so sweet like honey. Her kisses drowned him in passion, feeling as though he was in a dream. Kikyo kissed him back, easing her body against his as he wiped her tears away. They would survive.
