"Marry me, Ace..."
He couldn't believe he just blurted it out. Of all the plannings, preparations, even bathroom mirrors rehearsals went to waste. Because he couldn't shut his mouth. And it's too late to take it back.
But that look on her face. That deep emotion radiated from those two electric eyes, filled him with trust, joy, and love, and he couldn't stop himself.
Those eyes now widen with surprise, but not for long. It quickly changed to pure joy as her smile grew. She cupped his face and gave him a smearing kiss while happy tears streaming down her cheeks. This looks like a yes, definitely better reaction than the first time, but...
"I'm gonna need a solid answer, Ace."
She nodded hard, choked on her tears and struggling to form words. "Yes," she finally managed to say while still bobbing her head up and down. "Yes, Logan! Of course yes!"
"Yes? Yes? You said yes?" He just needed to hear it once or twice more even though they were both giggling like two teenagers while hugging and kissing simultaneously.
"Yes, Logan!" She said more firmly.
"Yes." He repeated it slowly, basking in the joyous feeling. "We're getting married?"
"Yes, we are..." she confirmed.
They both continued to hug and kiss each other, giggling all the way. He might gonna wear this grin for a month.
"Logan, you're not proposing on a whim, right? Spur of the moment thingy? Driven by adrenaline rush and all?" She asked curiously.
"What? Of course not!"
"I mean, you've thought about this right? And this is really what you want? You know I am not exactly a prize, if anything I'm a broken creature. You sure you want me?" She asked worryingly. Is she serious?
"Hey, careful there! That's my fiancé you're talking about..." he warned, pinching the tip of her nose.
"I'm serious, Logan! You have always so impulsive, we know that. But why are you proposing out of the blue?"
"Oh, Ace!" He chuckled. And then standing up to his forgotten jacket laying on the seat.
"Where are you going?" She asked. "Oh!" She exclaimed upon seeing the blue box he took out of his pocket.
"Yeah oh!" He teased.
He prepped himself in front of Rory and got down on one knee opening the box. Rory gasped at the sight of the ring and once again her blue orbs drowned in happy tears.
"Rory Gilmore, this isn't a whim. This isn't a fruit of some adrenaline rush or one day fear and panic. This has been in the book for me for ten years, if not more. Despite of what you think of yourself, you are the most beautiful, intelligent and talented woman I had ever known, with a heart of gold as today's event had shown. On top of that, you are also the strongest person I know. You've been to hell, lived in it, and came back a winner." He paused to get a grip of the overflowing emotion. "I am so proud of you, Ace! If you ask me if I'm sure I want you to be my wife and spend the rest of my days being married to you, then yes! I am sure, I have been sure for ten years and more. I have been sure for the last few weeks when I plan this proposal... so yes, Rory Gilmore, the love of my life. I am sure... now will you please take this ring and put it on your finger to seal this engagement?"
She was completely weeping now, but found the strength to extend her hand for Logan to put on the ring.
"I accept the ring, Logan Huntzberger..." she said after clearing her throat a few times. "You are the most amazing man I know. You are kind, smart, full of live and optimism. I love you, I love seeing the world through your eyes. I love the silly boy you once were, and I love this incredibly brilliant, endearingly patient, and amazingly supportive man you've become. You've shown me your true self, the one no-one else had seen, and I couldn't be more in love with you. You have been my lighthouse, guiding my way home, but you let me grow by myself... And it worked! I am home now, and I promise you that from now on it will be balanced and equal, you will no longer have to nurture a fragile me, you can lean on me as much as I can lean on you. Thank you for being so patient and supportive, you truly are a dream come true. You're my the one, Logan Huntzberger. And I'd be honored to be your wife..."
Logan was at loss of words. As much of a wordsmith herself, Rory had never pour out her feelings like that, in the most sincere, un-rambled, more than three sentences like that. He knew that Rory loves him, but this was the first time he heard her full on heartfelt confession speech.
"You're my the one too, Rory Gilmore..." was all that he could muster before all words stop and they celebrated their engagement in a very private and intimate way. They did not talk much that night, instead they showed their love in the most raw and primitive way and fell asleep in each others arms wearing nothing but a crumpled sheet and the shiny ring.
They woke up the next day exhausted but over the moon. They decided to postpone telling their family and just live in their little bubble for a day. They spent the whole morning in bed, had breakfast of skittles and leftovers from last night. It was a true bliss.
But of course the bubble won't last till noon, because they ran out of food and they had to turn on their phones to order food, so Logan dreadfully went to grab his phone knowing full well that he's going to face a flood of messages and missed calls from worried friends and family.
"Hey, Logan?" Rory called from the vanity mirror where she sat fishing her phone from her bag.
"Yes Ace?" He answered scrolling through his phone.
"When did you plan to propose to me?"
"Last night."
"No, I mean... when did you plan to propose originally? Before, you know, Lewis happened?"
Logan looked at her and grinned. "Last night."
"What? You were going to propose last night?" She shrieked. "At the wedding? You crazy! Clarissa would have eaten me alive!" She exclaimed.
"No, no, of course not, Ace! I had a plan. We were supposed to wait until the wedding's over, wave the bride and groom goodbye, and I would bring you to Yale... I had setup a scavenger hunt from our time there, started of course in front of you dorm room..."
"That wasn't where we started," she argued pointing out to their first acquaintance in front of a coffee cart.
"Well, I didn't notice you that time, and you were not quite fond of me so I scratched that from our list of memorable moment," he replied incredulously.
She was smiling wide now. "We have a list of memorable moments?"
"Sure we do, and most of them are at Yale. So we were to walk down memory lane and revisit our best memories,"
"Including the cafeteria break in and ice cream?"
"Yes, that too..."
"And where did this walk suppose to end?"
"A beautifully decorated very special place of ours, Ace..."
"Really? Don't tell me! Don't tell me! Let me guess!"
She got really excited her eyes twinkled and her face brightened, making him almost bounce of happiness.
"Is it the rich man's shoe?"
He shook his head.
"Umm... our tree? No, that can't be, it was just my tree..."
He chuckled.
"Umm... the daily news?"
Another shook.
"Arrrrgh! Where then?!" She asked without really wanted the answer. "I wish we can still go, a scavenger hunt would have been great, don't you think? And to remember those days, I think it would be really nice," she said dreamily.
"Wait! Who says we can't? Of course we can! I just had to make a call to ensure everything was still in place, and then we can go. Come on, Ace!"
"Really??" She bounced.
"Yes! Let's go, go get ready!" He pushed her to their bathroom.
He quickly made a call and was pleased to get the confirmation that his plan can still be implemented. Although to be honest, even if it wasn't he was gonna force them to make it happen.
He was going to go get dressed when a call popped up on his phone. Honor's angry face showed up on the screen. Uh-oh!
"Hello sis!" He answered chirpily.
"Finally! Seriously Logan! Have you ever grow up at all?" She scowled.
"What do you mean?"
"Where were you? Last night and this morning. I tried calling you both a million times!"
"We were uh, asleep."
"Really?! I almost died worried!"
"What? I told you we're okay,"
"God, I think I deserved more than a broadcasted message of 'we're fine, we've arrived home now. Thank you all, talk to you later!'... I need more, I need to know how are you, how is she?"
"Okay, I'm sorry. It was just too overwhelming last night and something happened and we just lost track of time. I swear I was gonna call you guys this afternoon,"
Honor scoffed. "Well? So how is she?"
"Why don't you asked yourself? She's in the bathroom getting ready but she should be finished by now, I don't know what took her this long, so unlike her," he commented walking to the bathroom knocked on the door. He could've turned the knob and let himself in, but Honor was on the video call, he didn't want to risk her seeing things she wasn't supposed to. "Ace? What took you so long?"
"Sorry! Be right there!" Came her answer.
"Honor's on video, don't do anything that will scar her for life," he warned Rory, gaining an eye-roll from his sister.
Rory showed up after a while, plastering her best smile and he turned the phone to face Rory.
"Hi Honor!" She greeted while putting on her earrings.
"Rory, thank God! You're okay! I was so worried, Colin called me and explained how the event turned out but I still need to see for myself... oh!" She gasped, her eyes looked like they were gonna jump out of the socket.
"What?" Rory's hand stopped midair on her attempt to put on an earring.
"OH MY GOD! You're engaged?!!" She exclaimed.
"Yeah, it was... well, it sorta happened last night!" She blushed.
Honor let out a happy laugh. "Oh God! That is incredible! Let me see my brother!" Rory took the phone and glued her head on Logan's so that they both could fit in the camera. "You sneaky little man! How did you even managed to propose?"
"Well, the opportunity presented itself, and you know me, I am not the kind to pass up a chance..." he smirked.
"Oh, God! No wonder you guys went AWOL. And that silly grin on you face even when I was scolding you..." she laughed. "So you finally get what you want after all, huh? And you turned the day around. That is quite an accomplishment, little bro!"
"Thank you!" He beamed proudly.
"Congratulations you both! I want lunch and details some time this week okay?"
They nodded.
"Okay then. I'll let you two lovebirds go and enjoy your engagement. It's just too bad you didn't get to run your plan. It was such a beautiful plan," she said.
"Oh, actually we're planning on doing it anyway. I just confirmed that the props are all still in place, so we figured, why not? There will be no element of surprise anymore, but we still will have the moments... we're actually getting ready to go to Yale now when you called,"
"Oh, okay! Good, good plan. I gotta go now, but good luck and congrats once again! Love you both!" She quickly ended the call.
Logan grinned at his sisters hysteric reaction, he bet the whole family and friends will know about this before dinner and he contemplated to turn his phone off again but decided to just ignore the flood of calls that he was sure were gonna explode his phone this whole afternoon.
He turned to call Rory who showed up looking very beautiful he could almost swear she was glowing. "Let's go,"
