Chapter 28
Rory POV
When we returned from our trip, it didn't take long for the media to find out that Finn and I had gotten married. The grandparents had been less than thrilled that we hadn't had a big society wedding but I couldn't have cared less. The only thing that had mattered to me was that Finn and I had gotten married the way that we wanted and we were starting a family. It had been the perfect wedding present.
It didn't take long for Finn and I to find a house that we both liked. It was beautiful. It had eight bedrooms, 7 bathrooms, a library, a pool and a jacuzzi. It even had a finished basement that Finn had convinced me to turn into our very own movie theater. Finn and I had agreed to hire someone to build a fence around the pool. It had plenty of space. Once the Grandparents found out that I was pregnant, the Grandma's had convinced us to hire a couple of people to help around the house. Charlotte had even suggested that we hire a nanny at least part time once the baby came.
We had Steph and Colin's bachelor and bachelorette parties this weekend. I had spent so much time preparing Steph's party. The only thing that was going to suck about it was that I wouldn't be able to have a drink with my best friend. I'd decided to tell the girls on the way to the spa resort that I was pregnant. Finn told me that he thought it was the best decision. He said at least this way they wouldn't be questioning me all weekend.
Juliet had called me that Friday morning and asked if I could meet her for lunch. I'd told her that I had a busy day but if she wanted to grab some food we could eat in my office while I caught up on some paperwork. At 12:30 my assistant let Juliet into my office. She looked worried when she walked in. "You okay?" I asked her.
"I need to talk to you. I'm trying really hard not to read too much into it but I'm unsure so I figured that you were the best person for me to talk to." Juliet said.
I leaned back in my chair. "What's on your mind?" I asked her.
"I know that you used to spend a lot of time with Logan in London. And I know that you and Finn are married. I guess…" She trailed off looking deep in thought.
"What is it, you want to know?" I asked.
"Did you and Logan ever hook up?" She asked me.
I knew that at some point somebody somewhere was going to ask one day about my trips to London. Over the years, Steph and Colin had never asked…well at least they'd never asked me. If they'd asked Logan, nobody had ever said anything. "You know that Finn spent some time in Australia after graduated right?" I asked her. She nodded. "Well, after he left, I was really depressed. All I did was go to school, drink and sleep. After a while Steph and Colin got tired of seeing me like that so they suggested that I do some traveling. I think that they were hoping that I would go see Finn. And I did try once. I couldn't make myself get on the plane. I don't think that anybody expected me to jump on a plane and fly to London. Over the course of two and a half years, I flew to London a dozen times." I said. I reached for my bottle of water and took a drink. "Logan had even tried to convince to go see Finn, I just couldn't bring myself to go see him." I told her.
"My first trip to London, Logan had wanted me to stay with him but since I owned property there, I had declined. When he finished work for the day, we met for dinner and then we'd gone to a pub to get a drink. As I said before, everyone kept trying to convince me to go see Finn and I just couldn't bring myself to do it. While Logan and I were at the pub, I'd drank more than I intended to." I told her, thinking and continuing my story about my first trip to London.
***Flashback***
Logan and I had just ordered our third round when I'd started thinking about Finn again. "Why can't I do it? Why can I get on a plane and come here, but I can't get on a plane to go see him?" I said.
"I don't know, Ror. I know that he loves you and you love him. You know what else I know?" Logan said.
"What?" I asked.
"I wish that I could find somebody that I could love and that would love me the way that you and Finn love each other." Logan said.
"Am I a fool, Logan?" I asked him. "Am I a fool for thinking that we'd be together forever?"
Logan put his arm around my shoulders and pulled me into his side. "He will come home to you. It may take time but it will happen." Logan said.
"You know, I spent his last night with him. We made out at the party and then we walked around campus before we went back to his apartment. I begged him not to leave me. I told him to stay. I told him to fight his dad on this…Why did he leave me?" I said feeling the tears fall down my face.
"We all do what we have to do for the sake of family and name. One day though, he's going to come home…the two of you will make up, you'll get married and you'll have kids. When that happens everything will be right in the world." Logan said.
"I hope that your right." I said.
***End Flashback***
"Listen to me when I say this. Once upon a time, I liked Logan. I thought that I could tame the playboy of Yale. But then I realized that I wasn't willing to compromise myself. That's when Finn and I started hanging out and I found out that we clicked more than I did with Logan. It didn't take me long to realize that I was in love with Finn. I just took me a while to realize that he was it for me. It took me a while to want to make the jump with him." I said. "That probably didn't answer your question." I laughed.
"Not really." She said.
"Once Finn and I got together back at Yale, nothing ever happened between me and Logan. The most that has ever happened between Logan and I was a couple of kisses and that was back during my sophomore year at Yale. Logan is one of my best friends. He's been there for me through some very low points in my life while Finn was gone." I told her.
"Thank you for telling me." Juliet said.
I smiled at her. "Can I ask you something?" I asked. She nodded. "Why did you ask?"
"Logan and I had dinner with Honor the other night and when we did she was asking about you. I'm not sure why but I guess I just felt a little self-conscious about why she was asking about you… you know like maybe something had happened between the two of you that nobody knew about." She said.
"I get that." I told her. "Like I said, since the moment that Finn asked me out back in college he has been the one for me. The entire time that he was in Australia, I didn't date. I knew that one way or another he would come home and when he did… we would work things out. And we did. We got married. We moved into a new house. Can I let you in on a secret?" I asked, she nodded. "I'm pregnant." I told her.
Finn POV
Rory and I had spent all week making the final preparations for the parties this weekend. By the time Friday evening rolled around I was exhausted. Rory and I were having an early dinner before we went our separate ways for the weekend for the parties. I was already late for dinner. When I arrived at the restaurant, Rory did not look happy. "I know, I'm late. I'm sorry." I said, kissing her cheek and sitting across from her.
"You know that this means that we have to have a quick dinner." She complained.
"I know and I truly am sorry. I promise that I will make it up to you next week. Okay?" I said, begging a little. Ever since Rory had found out that she was pregnant, she'd been a little emotional… and snappy.
"You're lucky that I knew what you would want to eat." She said giving me a sad smile.
I reached across the table and held her hand. "So, I have some news." I told her.
"Do tell." She said, taking a drink of her water.
"Logan came to see me today." I said and she nodded. "He came to me with an idea. He wants me, him and Colin to partner together and open a nightclub." I told her.
"A nightclub?" She asked me.
I nodded. "Yeah. He knows that I know the business side of things and he said that nobody knows how to throw a party like I do." I told her.
She was quiet for a minute. "You want my opinion?" She asked me.
I nodded. "Your my wife, of course I do." I said.
She sat up straight in her chair. "I don't think that now is the right time to do this." She said. "Finn, we just moved into a bigger house, that we are still unpacking. Two of our best friends are getting married in two weeks. The remodel of your Hartford offices are complete. I'm finalizing a merger with Andrew McCrae. And finally, we're preparing for a baby." She said. She was right, we had a lot going on. We didn't need anything that was going to make it to where I spent even less time with her. "I just think that you should wait. I think that it's a good idea, just…not right now."
I gently squeezed her hand. "Your right babe. Now isn't a good time for it. I'll tell Logan this weekend." I told her, taking a drink of my water. "I don't want to do anything that's going to take me away from you anymore than necessary." I told her.
"I love you." She said.
"And I you, love." I said.
