It won't be like this for long: Chapter 17
Chapter 17
Sunday morning McKenzie is feeling better. Rory wanted her to stay in bed today, to give herself time to rest. Mckenzie agreed after Rory let her pick out several books from Rory's and Logan's collections.
While Rory was tending to McKenzie, Logan took this opportunity to talk with Mia about her behavior of late. He found her in her room laying on the bed with a book and her phone.
"Hey, can we talk for a few minutes?" he asked. Mia nodded, made a few more finger storks on her phone then sat up. Logan sat down at her desk.
"Listen, we need to discuss your attitude of late." Logan began, which caused Mia to sigh loudly as she rolled her eyes. Logan was trying to stay focused and not sweat the small stuff. He needed to help her understand the type of person she wants to be.
"You know that neither I nor Aunt Honor had the best parents growing up. Your Grandpops is totally different now. Your mom and Nana had a wonderful relationship. Mia what I am trying to say is we love you. That is something you should never have to wonder about. There is nothing that you or your siblings could do to make us not love you. But….There are things that you can do to disappoint us. Things that we know that you know not to do. I realize being a teenager is tough. I don't know what it is like to be a teenage girl with all the hormones, but I do know you. I know that you can and will think about others, not just yourself." Logan paused to access Mia's body language. He didn't get where he is in life without learning a few tricks.
"Like leaving Mom in the store to deal with McKenzie and checking out at the register," Mia said.
"Yes. How about inviting your friends to meet you at the mall, when you knew that your mother wanted to spend time with you?" Logan asked. Mia was focused on the floor. She understood what he was saying.
"I didn't invite them…." Mia said. Logan took his finger, put it under her chin, and lifted her face so that she was looking at him and not the floor. "I told them that I was going to be at the mall with my mom and little sister. I knew they would come." Mia told him. Logan just nodded his head.
"So, you understand that you could have handled that better?" Logan asked. Mia nodded. "How?" Logan asked.
"I could have told them that I would be spending time with my mom and sister now and that we could hang out later," Mia said. Logan nodded.
"I'm glad we understand each other. I want you and the twins to enjoy life. I have worked hard to provide the kind of life that you have, but I don't want you to think you can skate by on my money and influence. I know you have heard stories of my youth. I will be honest with you. I am not sure where I would be now, or who I would be if I had not met your mother. She changed my life. After we broke up, I strived to be the man that your mom knew I could be….Mia, I hope that one day, not anytime soon, that you find a man that will love you the way your mother loves me. But you should know, not all relationships are like ours." Logan paused, took a deep breath.
"Now, I want to talk about Ryan," Logan said. Mia's eyes got wide. "Your mother and I do not mind Ryan spending time at the house," Logan said.
"But?" Mia asked
"But, we need to know. I don't want to come home and see him here. No more calling someone to come to stay with the twins while you go out. I know that this will not be the last talk I will have about this. I don't want to be that father that his teenage daughter hates. I love you. Your mother loves you. Never forget that." Logan stood up and hugged her.
Logan joins Rory in the family room. She was getting the sofa ready for McKenzie to lay down and watch a movie.
"How did it go?" Rory asked Logan.
"I guess okay," Logan told her. "I am going to regret this question. Is she having sex? No, don't answer that. I am better off not knowing.
McKenzie came down the stairs dragging a blanket and a stuffy. She settled between Rory and Logan to watch a movie. Mia was in her room and Hayden was at a friend's house.
The movie was just about over when Rory's cell phone started ringing. She got up to get it. It was her assistant Parker.
"Parker, today is Sunday….Okay…." Rory sighed and looked at her watch. "Tell her that I will be there by 9:00 tomorrow. If she can not wait, tell her to high tail it to Hartford. I am not going to New York today. Tell her I understand this is important, but it is not something that can be resolved today…..send me the information and I will start on it tonight… Thanks" She hung up the call. Logan was looking at her. He heard her end of the conversation and wanted to know what was going on.
"That was Parker. I need the helicopter in the morning. Can that be arranged?" She asked Logan. He nodded.
"What's happening?" he asked.
"Whitney called. All my business calls are forwarded to Parker's company phone. She demanded that I meet her today in New York. He was not sure what was going on. He asked her if this meeting could be taken care of on Monday. She told him, yes, but she would prefer I came to New York tonight."Rory told Logan.
"If this is going to work, I am going to have to delegate. I will not be able to jump every time. Parker and I are meeting Lane this afternoon to go over some of the changes being made on my property in Stars Hollow. They elected a new selectman. I am going to meet him today." Rory told Logan.
Before Logan could answer, McKenzie told them to be quiet and watch the movie.
This is a crappy chapter. I am not sure where to go from here. Help.
