She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl
Chapter 19
Christmas morning 5:30 am. Logan and Rory have not been to bed long. Santa is bringing Mia a big girl bike. Rory ordered it and hid it at her office. Logan forgot to pick it up until yesterday when he picked up the rest of Santa's stash. He forgot he had to put it together. By the time they got Mia to bed, the stocking full, set up the various Barbie activities, then putting the bike together, it was 3:00. Rory hears little feet, then she hears a faint knock on their bedroom door. Rory pokes Logan. "We have a guest at our door," she says. "Tell her to go back to bed," Logan said. Mia opens the door. "Come here sweet pea," Rory said. Mia walked over to her side of the bed. Rory picked her up and sat her in between her and Logan. "It is still dark outside. We can not get up until the sun comes up." She hands Mia her tablet and turns on Frozen that is downloaded on her tablet. "Lay down and watch this. When the sun comes up we will see it right there," She pointed to the side of the curtain. "Sun will come in right there. Then we can get up." Rory kissed her and laid back down. Mia snuggled into Logan to watch her movie.
Rory woke up with the sun shining under the curtain. Mia and Logan both were sound asleep. She looked at the phone to check the time. 7:30. She quietly got up to go to the bathroom to wash her face and take care of the necessities. When she returned, Logan was just opening his eyes. Mia was still asleep. "Do you think I have time for a shower?" Logan asked. "If you make it quick, I can keep her in here till you get finished," Rory told him.
When Logan came out of the bathroom with his robe on, Mia said. "Daddy Logan, you better hurry, or I will leave you behind." Logan laughed. "Give me five more minutes," He said, holding up 5 fingers. When he returned from the closet he was dressed in a pair of Khaki Carhartt pants and a Christmas tee shirt. "Okay, now who is ready to go to school?" Logan asked. The look on Mia's face was priceless. "It's Christmas, Logan dear, Did you forget?" Rory said, trying not to laugh. "Christmas? You must have been dreaming. It is not Christmas, I have to go to the office. I have a meeting in an hour. You and Mia need to get dressed or I will leave you here." Logan said. Mia's eyes were filling with tears, she was going to have a meltdown. "Mia, Merry Christmas." Logan and Rory said together. "Let go see what Santa left for you."
They first went to the living room. Rory was grabbing the stocking off the fireplace mantel. "Santa didn't come," Mia said. She was looking at the Christmas tree in the living room. It has wrapped presents under it, but that is what it had when she went to bed. Logan looked around at Mia and realized what she was talking about. "No, Mia, remember, We lift the milk and cookies for Santa in the den," Logan said. Mia's face lit up. She started toward the den. Logan stopped her. "We are going to see what Santa left in our stockings, then we are going to eat breakfast before seeing what Santa left." Mia wasn't too happy, but she said okay.
Mia looked in her stocking first. She had bubblegum, playdoh, hair bands, and ties. She wasn't very impressed but she knew that Rory would get mad if she didn't like it. "I got hair bows and bubble gum," Mia said. Logan told her. "It looks like something else at the bottom of your stocking. What is it?" Mia pushed her hand all the way to the bottom of the stocking and pulled at a hard jewelry case. She opened it and it was a locket. Logan helps her open the locket. There is a picture of Logan and Rory together on one side and a picture of Mia on the other. "Wow, Santa took your picture Moma. Will you put it on me, Daddy Logan?" Logan fastened the locket around her neck. "It's beautiful. Just like you." Logan said. She hugged his neck. "Now, Moma it is your turn. Rory pulled a box of candy nerds, some bubble gum, a candle, and a jewelry case. She cut her eyes at Logan. This was not in the stocking when she filled them up last night. She opened it. It was a 6 baguette and 30 round brilliant diamonds. Traffic Diamond Bracelet. By Harry Winston. "Logan," Rory said. "This is too much." "Moma, you don't like the bracelet Santa brung you?" Mia asked. "I love it, sweet pea. It is perfect." She said looking at Logan.
Logan was smiling. "Empty your stocking Daddy Logan," Mia said. Logan pulls a box of starbursts, some bubble gum, some jolly ranchers, and a watch box. He opened the watch box and it was a Tiffany 1837 Makers 27 mm square watch in 18k rose gold on an alligator strap."Oh, wow, Santa knew I needed a new watch." Logan said with a smile as he put the watch on. "Let's eat breakfast, I got to see what Santa bung me," Mia said. "Brought not brung," Rory corrected.
After eating pancakes for breakfast, they headed to the den. When Logan opened the door. Mia just froze. "Wow, look at that. Momma, look at all the Barbie doll clothes. Look, a closet for her clothes. And over here Momma, look Chelsea and a treehouse. There's Ken." She was so excited. She hasn't noticed the bike yet. Rory and Logan were sitting on the sofa drinking coffee, watching Mia go from one toy to another. The bike and helmet were on the other side of the tree. "Mia, did you check to see if Santa ate all the cookies," Logan asked. Mia jumped up to check on the cookie and see the bike. "Santa brought me a Skye paw patrol bike." It is a Nickelodeon's PAW patrol: Skye Sidewalker 12' Bike, Pink. "I need to go get dressed, I have got to ride my bike," Mia said and she started to her room. "Whoa there. Play with your barbies for a little while. Momma wants to go take a shower. Then we can go outside and you can ride your bike." Rory said. "You play with me, Daddy Logan?" Logan got on the floor and was playing with a Barbie doll with Mia.
That is where Rory found them when she got out of the shower. Mia and Rory hurried upstairs to get her dressed while Logan took the bike and helmet out on the driveway. When Rory and Mia got outside, Logan put Mia's helmet on her. Rory told her that she could not ride the bike without a helmet. She had a hard time getting started, but when she did she rode up and down the driveway. She rode the bike for at least an hour. Logan saw a car pulling up to the gate. He called for Mia to come to him. It was Chris and Gigi. Before the gate could close, another car pulled up.
Everyone came at different times. They all had stockings to open, courtesy of Rory and Logan. They all had gifts to give and Rory and Logan had gifts for everyone. They even bought a few gift cards in case someone showed up that they forgot about. Everyone had a wonderful time. By bedtime, Mia was out like a light.
