She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl
Chapter 20
Rory, Logan, and Mia are on their way to Aspen. They have a car picking them up at the airport. Christopher and Gigi will be coming in later this week. When they reached the Chatel, they were told by the maid that Emily and Richard are at lunch with friends in town. They went to their rooms to unpack.
When Richard and Emily arrived, Rory and Logan were sitting in front of the fireplace reading and Mia and the maid were putting a puzzle together. At first, Emily was upset that the maid was playing with a child, but Richard told her it was a good thing.
Emily asked. "Rory, what are your plans for today?" "Grandma, I think we are Mia ice skating tonight. They have that ice rink with the twinkle lights that they turn off every 30 minutes for the light show. I can't remember the name, Dad, Gigi and I took Mia last year." "I know the place," Logan spoke up. Finn broke his leg a couple of years ago trying to ice skate." "Was he sober?" Rory asked. Logan laughed. "Nope."
"Would you and Grandpa like to come with us?" Rory asked. Emily looked at Richard. "I think that will be an excellent idea," Richard said. "There is a sleigh ride that originates from there. May you and I could take a ride." Richard says, winking at Emily. "Richard," Emily said. "Grandpa there is a fire pit you can sit around. They have hot cocoa and marshmallows to roast."
"Will we eat here or grab a bite on the way?" Emily asked, looking pointy at the maid. "There is a great burger joint on the way, we could stop and eat there," Rory said. "I guess," Emily replied. She wasn't sure she wanted to eat at a burger joint. "Emily, It will be adventurous," Richard said. Emily smiled.
It was almost dark when they arrived at the skating rink. Emily enjoyed her burger. Rory talked her into getting a milkshake. Mia was excited. She was the first to unbuckle. She was almost out the door before Logan caught her. "Whoa there. You have to wait on an adult." Logan said. When they got to the entrance, Logan rented a pair of skates for himself. Rory and Mia have their own.
Emily and Richard signed up for the sleigh ride. They were sitting around the fire pit waiting for their names to be called. Emily enjoyed watching her granddaughter with her great-granddaughter. Logan and Mia were skating together. Mia could skate better than Logan. She was 'teaching' him.
Rory sat down with Emily and Richard. "Rory, look at that. She isn't his blood and he is such a good father. Don't you want to give him a child?" Emily asked. "Grandma, I really would, but I'm worried. I am older now. My career is on track, and I still have time for Mia and Logan. Another child would mean a lot of changes. I know I am being selfish," She told Emily. "Just think about it," Emily said, patting her on the thigh. Richard and Emily's names were called for the horse-drawn sleigh ride.
Rory sat and watched Logan and Mia together. Maybe giving him a biological child would not be so bad. She thinks back to the talk they had before they were married.
"Logan, we need to talk," Rory tells Logan when he comes to pick her up for a date. "Ace, you said yes. You can't take it back," Logan said. They have been engaged for a couple of weeks. They are meeting with their friends to pick a date. "Well, If you want to take it back after our talk, then I will not hold it against you," Rory said a lot more seriously than Logan wanted. "I want to talk to you about children. I have Mia, she is my world. You are aware of the difficult time I had after Mia was born. I just want to know where your thoughts are on children." Logan looked at her closely. "I love Mia. Mia loves me. As the Huntzburger heir, I am expected to produce an heir...but if Mia is enough for you, I will be fine with that. If you want to start a baseball team, I am fine with that. I want to do what will make you happy. Sure, I would like to have a little boy to teach how to throw a ball. Honor taught me….Bottom line. I will do what you want. I can be happy without a biological child."
Rory heard Mia squeal. That brought her out of her own head. Logan was spinning Mia around like a figure skater. Rory smiled. Maybe another child would not be so bad.
Logan and Mia joined Rory by the fire. When Emily and Richard return, they will be next to take the sleigh ride. They enjoyed the sleigh ride. They stayed and roasted marshmallows and drank hot cocoa. When they returned to the cabin, Mia was already asleep.
