"Logan, I love you, but if you don't leave now, you're gonna wake the baby... and I will be very pissed,"
Logan turned to see his wife standing on the door, arms on her side and eyes rolled.
"Okay, okay..." he whispered and tip toed out of his stance beside London's crib. He took one last look at the sleeping baby and sighed. "I'm gonna miss him."
"You say that every time you're going on trips..." Rory replied incredulously, but her eyes showed amusement.
"Doesn't make it less true," he defended.
"You're only be going for two days, we'll be fine..." she assured him.
"Never said you won't. I've been meaning to say that I don't think I will be fine," he wrapped his arms around Rory. "Leaving for business trips are getting harder and harder every-time, I just miss you guys so much. And now with our newest addition, I found myself more dreading these trips,"
"Yeah, I know. Sleeping without you stealing the blanket and try to cover me with your body instead is super annoying," she smirked.
"I make a very sexy blanket,"
"That you do..."
"But seriously, this trip is ridiculous. I am on paternity leave and they can't even leave me enjoy it properly..." Logan whined.
"Well it's either you or me, and I don't think our forty days old little man there would appreciate his milk supplier gone for days..."
"Yeah, you've got a point... promise you'll video call everyday?"
"Cross my heart. Besides, even if I don't call you, Lori or Lukie probably will..." Rory sighed.
Logan chuckled. His four years old daughter Lori had just recently figured out how to FaceTime. And she would make the call whenever she could get her hands on an iPad, and apparently she also had taught her two years old brother, Lukie. Needless to say that Logan frequently getting random calls in the day when he was on a trip, oftentimes only to be shown the ceiling while his kids ramble about their days.
They usually spent the day in the day care that Logan and Rory set up in their office building, but since they both were in a leave welcoming their new baby, London, the older kids were also stay at home. Although to be honest, they have busy schedules as their aunts, uncles, and grandparents liked to pick them up to spend the day together.
"I hate leaving this early in the morning, I don't get to say goodbye to Lori and Lukie..." Logan whined, trying to stall his leave although he knew that he had to leave now if he want to arrive in time for his eight o'clock meeting.
"Yeah, maybe we should start letting the juniors take over business trips," Rory said while handing him his bag.
Logan looked up. "You think they're ready?" This could be the best idea.
"I think they will, if we prepare them intensely these next few months. Truth be told, I am also not a fan of business trips. And Lori is starting school this fall, and she might not be able to go with us on trips anymore. It's just gonna be messy,"
"Agreed. So, we'll talk about this more when I get back." This could be the best idea, the answers to their prayers to stay at home more.
Rory nodded and followed him out, stopped a while to peek into Lori and Lukie's room although he had spent several minutes saying goodbyes to their sleeping forms and placed a kiss or two on their fluffy little cheeks. He wasn't lying when he said leaving for business trips are getting harder. He has got everything he ever wanted in the house, and he hated to miss any moments.
When their first child, Lorelai Honor Huntzberger, nicknamed Lori, was born, he was over the moon. He reached a level of happiness that he never felt before. His daughter with Rory. He couldn't take his eyes off of her and he burst in tears when they placed her in his arms. A perfect little girl, an exact replica of Rory with her brown soft curls and electric blue eyes. Although growing up, he could see more and more of him in her. She was fearless, and very sharp, not the kind of sharp like Rory, but the fast and impulsive kind like himself. And she was really good in using her charming little innocent face to get what she wants, proven by the amount of Doc McStuffins movies Logan had watched with her, and the toys she had collected from her aunts, uncles, and grandparents.
Rory got pregnant again when Lori was eighteen months old, this time intentional because they both agreed Lori needed a brother or a sister. And when Lucas Hayden Huntzberger, nicknamed Lukie by his elder sister, was born nine months later, Logan reached another level of happiness he thought he would explode. Lukie was Logan's miniature, with his warm chocolate eyes and his unruly blonds. But he was calm like Rory. Loved night ins, and junk food. And frustratingly stubborn. Exactly like Rory. His favourite song was the ABC song, obviously.
Logan felt his life was complete, and he's got everything he could ever asked for and more. But on that fateful July, just a few weeks after their London trip on Independence Day, Rory peed on sticks again, and they announced their third pregnancy, much to the delight of the grandparents. London Richard Huntzberger has the mix of everything, with Rory's blue eyes and Logan's blond hair, the perfect angelic face everyone were weak for. Unfortunately, London had to become the last baby because Rory had a complicated delivery that they had to do a C-Section on her, and the doctors heavily suggested that they don't put another stress on her uterus.
Rory responded with a relieve, because as much as she loved her kids, and the tons of support she had from the family, three kids were already had her hands full. Another kid will throw her off balance on the dance between personal and professional life. And as much as Logan hated to admit, he too had struggled with three kids under five years old and a high stake job.
"Bye, love you..." He kissed Rory goodbye for the zillionth time that morning before sliding into the car where Frank will drive him to the airport. Logan sighed, took a sip of his coffee. Lorelai and Gigi were coming later that afternoon to stay over and help with the kids.
Lori and Lukie had an appointment with their Uncle Finn and Auntie Macy, who has been in a serious relationship since Finn got over his denial and asked her out a year after the wedding. It was quiet surprising for Logan because Macy had always shown interests on girls, but again, not for Rory. She'd seen it coming.
Finn and Macy completed each other. It was just the right amount of weirdness between those two to keep the relationship going. They agreed not to get married and have kids. Macy believed that the world has had enough kids, and if they want to have some, they could just adopt. While Finn believed that he has had enough kids, counting in Colin's, Logan's and Robert's kids as his own. He took over his dad's company and restructured it into digitally managed. So he could literally work from wherever he wanted in the world, but he chose Hartford, although he still needed to fly in to Perth or Brisbane once in a while. Macy wanted to stay working as Logan's assistant, but he claimed that she was overqualified now. She ended up establishing MC Wedding Organizer because she enjoyed planning and coordinating Logan and Rory's wedding. Her first client was Robert and Bethany.
Robert finally convinced Bethany to marry him. They got married in the court house, and immediately got pregnant a month later with a pair of twin, who just last month celebrated their second birthday. Bethany got back in school and earned her Masters in children education. She made it her life purpose to teach her children well, including her oldest, Robert himself. She lost her perfect figure and now has a mom-body, but Robert couldn't have love her more. She was still perfect in his eyes and he never failed to show it. She was perfectly happy being a wife and a mom, and that was all that matters.
Paris and Colin went steady over the years but haven't shown a slightest interest in marriage, although they already live together in a huge house in Hartford with their kids, who were raised under Paris' parenting style, far from the overindulging privileges Colin used to give them. Although Paris won't go too far with letting them go to school in public transport. It will be literally dangerous. Paris had been recruited into Colin's law firm, and together they were like the Gods of Legal assistance, winning cases after cases and collecting high profile clients like candy. Colin's dad finally retired peacefully, leaving his share divided to Colin and Paris. He was now enjoying his pension in a summer house in an island he bought for himself somewhere in Bora Bora, no longer marrying young women after divorce number nine, and settled with becoming the next Hugh Hefner in an island version of Playboy Mansion.
Jess and Clarissa were too busy jet setting around the world as his book continues to hit best selling rank to even stop and have kids. Clarissa left her job at the magazine to be a travel blogger and has more than two million subscriber on YouTube. She was having the time of her life hopping on adventures while Jess holed up in their hotel room in any city they were happen to be in, writing or having book reading and signing his books. Lol. They also has a house in Hartford where they welcomed Rory's kids for multi-days sleepovers whenever they were in town, filling them with junk food and sugary stuffs.
Lane and Zack were divorced but the band stayed together. They signed a huge contract with Sony and currently on world tour publishing their second album, "Life in a Mission". Mrs. Kim was more devastated and hysterical than them when the divorce happened. But Lane and Zack seemed happier that they weren't together now. The kids were home-schooled and followed their parents around the world, bringing along their highly-paid tutors. Lane was thinking of creating some way around this where her kids will stay in a city and she will go back weekly in between shows, now that the band has their own jet. But nothing settled for now.
Logan sighed in contentment. Their lives just continued to be better and better. And he wasn't just talking about the personal one, their professional life was also keep on blooming. Rory was the smartest recruitment move HPG ever made because she never stopped contributing ideas that allowed HPG to grow three times over these past five years.
Together with Logan, they were proven to be the best team leading the company. The board called them "The Midas Pair", as whatever they touched turned to gold. HPG had now doubled their annual profit since they took over, with expansion and improvements occur regularly and fairly distributed to all their sister companies and area branches. They also have a very over the top digital branch now focusing on digital publication which one of the reason their company grew in the era of internet and social medias. They led the company with a people-based approach, believing that by giving the best for the employees, they will get the best and most dedicated employees. And they were right. HPG were currently ranked first in the digital media world and were one of the most desirable place to work in the States.
Logan took his seat in the company jet, listened to his assistant, Jade brief him about the situation in the field. Two of the juniors were also accompanied him on the trip, Darryl and Agatha, and were listening closely to everything Jade was saying while occasionally adding some inputs and information. Logan listened while thinking about Rory's idea about letting the juniors take over business trips. Rory and Logan has five young junior executives they had recruited not long after Rory joined HPG, consists of a group of bright and intuitive young people, each with their own specialties: editorial, digital, management, marketing, and partnership, who acts as Logan and Rory's strategic assistants. It was actually also one of Rory's brilliant idea as it ensure regeneration of knowledge and contribution of a stream of new and innovative ideas to their publication company. And after almost five years of serving as junior executives, Logan thought that they were ready to represent the company in much bigger role. This was a brilliant idea, after all, they already had been in charge of Logan and Rory's duties while they were on paternity and maternity leave.
Logan smiled happily. A great idea indeed.
Life is perfect.
THE END.
For real.
Author's Last Note
The end. Can't believe that we finally come to this. I love how this story turned out because honestly I had several writers block where I ended up deleting a chapter and re-write it again because I didn't like how it came together. Lol. I also had hard time picturing happy moments because I didn't want it become too cliche, but I still did it. Scrunched my nose and posted it anyway. Because I knew I had been too hard to Rory by letting her experience Lewis-gate, and she deserved to be happy.
But I'm really happy about this last chapter though. I love the diverse choices the women made, and that practically showed how women should be. No wrong answers. You could be a career woman and be happy. You could be a housewife and be happy. You could be married and be happy, but you could also not be married, and still be happy. So you see the repeated words that kept showing up in the sentences? Yes, you and happy. Make sure it is what you want and that you are happy.
Everything is perfect now. And I want it to stay that way. So, I'll stop here. Before I got too creative and ruin everything. Lol.
I will, however, be posting some one-shots or some short stories on their lives. Maybe a honeymoon scene, or holidays! Yes! I love holidays! And oh! Maybe the kids' outings with Finn and Macy. That would be fun. So, don't forget to follow me, make sure you get my updates.
Thank you for your patience and support throughout this story. I love you all!
