Chapter 36 Party? Rehab?
Logan entered the Gilmore Manor, looking for Rory. The place looked great. He saw her in the kitchen with Patty. She looked beautiful. She was wearing a red Carolina Herrera that flared out and stopped at the knees. She was something else. He kissed her and told her that he was sorry for being later than he planned. "I'm headed to the shower now. When will Karson be back with the boys?" "You go get dressed. The boys are staying with Mom tonight. Karson has a date." Logan smiled and headed up the stairs.
After a while the activity in the Gilmore Manor was exciting. The Hartford office has around 25 employees. After the move there will 40-50 employee. Most of the 50 + people tonight were Hartford employees or spouses/partners. Logan was talking with his dad and one of the board members that lived in Hartford. He was listening, but he was also watching. He saw Rory out of the corner of his eye. He shifted a little to be able to get a better view. Mitchum noticed. "Stanley, you will have to excuse my son. He is getting married in a little over a week. He can't seem to keep his eyes off his bride to be." Mitchum and Stanley chuckled. "Would you like to meet her Stanley?" Logan asked. Stanley smiled and nodded his head. Logan left to go get Rory. When he returned Mitchum spoke up. "Stanley Hayden, I would like you to meet Rory Gilmore." Rory and Stanley both smiled. "Uncle Stanley, how have you been?" Rory said as she hugged her uncle, and he kissed her cheek. "Good, Rory, just good. How is your dad and Gigi? I haven't seen them at all this season." "Well shame on them. They were with us on Thanksgiving, and they will be here Christmas Day. You and Aunt Betty are welcome to come. We will be having an open house starting around 11. Snacks and finger food. Please come. We would like to have you." "I will talk it over with Betty. Our grandchildren and great grands are in California. Facetime is a life saver." Stanley said with a smile. Logan and Mitchum were grinning from ear to ear. Logan forgot about her being a Hayden. "Is Aunt Betty here? I haven't seen her." Rory asked looking around. "No, I just dropped in for a few minutes. Checking on Mitchum here". Patting his shoulder. "Don't see the twins." "There with mom and Luke." "Tell them I said hey, that goes for your dad and Gigi. Mitchum, Logan, I will take my leave. Logan, you have a fine woman here, treat her well." As he kissed Rory on the cheek. "Gentlemen I will see you at the next board meeting. Rory my apologize to you and Logan but we will not be able to attend your wedding. I am surprising Betty with a trip to California to see the babies."
Logan started laughing as soon as Stanley left. "Ace, I forgot you are a Hayden." Rory smiled and returned to mingling with her guest, being a great hostess.
They enjoyed the rest of the party. They mingled, dance, and eat.
After everyone left and the clean up was done, Logan and Rory finally got to bed only to be woken up an hour later with Logan's phone ringing. He tried to slip out of bed and answer it without disturbing Rory. No luck. "Hello" Logan answered, not looking at the caller ID. "Logan, this is Evelyn. I am so sorry to bother you at this late hour, but it your mom." "Evelyn, it's okay. What is wrong with mom?" "The ambulance is on the way to the hospital. Not sure what happened. I was leaving for the night when I heard her in the kitchen. I thought she had gone to bed. I went to the kitchen to tell her I was leaving, and she was passed out on the floor. There were some dishes broken on the floor. I'm guessing that happened when she fell. Snowy was licking her face." Logan was getting dress; he had put his phone on speaker while he got dressed. "Who is Snowy?" Rory asked. "that's her miniature schnauzer. Evelyn, I'm on the way" Logan said and closed his phone. Rory started getting up to get dress. "No" Logan said "you rest, I won't be long. I'm just going to check on her and talk with the doctor." "Logan, the boys are with mom, let me go with you" "Okay, let's go."
When they arrived at the emergency room, Logan approached the desk asking about Shira. He was told to have a seat; someone would be out shortly to speak with him. While he was waiting, he called Honor. Told her it was not necessary for her to come. After waiting about 30 minutes, Shira's doctor entered the waiting room. "Logan, son, it's good to see you. Sorry about the circumstances." "Dr. Wilson how is Shira" Logan and Rory stood when he entered. "Come let's go to my office to talk" Before they could leave Honor came rushing in. "Logan How's mom?" "Honor you remember Dr. Wilson?" Honor nodded. "We are just going to my office so we can have some privacy to talk." Dr. Wilson said as he led them to the elevator.
When they got to his office, it was explained to them that Shira is okay at this time, but she did over dose. "We're not sure if it was an accident or attempted suicide." Dr. Wilson explained. "We are going to keep her a couple of days. I know it is right here at Christmas, but I think you should try to make arrangements for her to go to rehab." Honor put her face in her hands and started to cry. "Honor, Hey, it will be okay." Logan said, sometimes feeling more like the older brother instead of the younger. The Doctor continues. "Regardless if this was an accident or attempted suicide, she needs help." They sat there for a few minutes. "Can we go see her?" Rory asked. "In the morning during visiting hours. Because we are not sure if it was an accident or attempted suicide, she is on the 7th floor. Those rooms are for addictions. Security is tight. Visitors only during visiting hours. Logan, I know you are probably worried about the press." Logan shook his head. "I'll talk with Bob, I will either send over some of my security or will pay for the extra. I'll call him first thing in the morning. She should be okay for now" Honor asked, "Who is Bob?" Logan explained he was the CEO of the hospital and also on the Board of Directors at HPG." The Doctor stood up, signaling it was time to leave. He handed Logan and Honor some pamphlet to look over and his card. "Call me if you need me. If I am not at the hospital, I will be at home. I don't have plans to go out of town. Logan, Honor I am truly sorry it has come to this, but I need an answer tomorrow so we can start the paperwork and have her in a facility the day after Christmas. The sooner the better"
When they enter the elevator, Logan told Honor and Rory that he needed to go to the office. He has several calls he has to make. "Honor can you drop Rory off?" "Logan, this is not all on you. This is not a decision you will have to make alone. I want to talk this out with you. I promise, I will be strong, I will be helpful." Honor said. Logan exited the elevator and looked around. Knowing it will only take one person overhearing and it would be all over the news. "Okay, Meet me at the Huntzburger Manor for breakfast. We can use the study. We will talk and make decisions together." Rory nodded her head in agreement. Rory was rubbing Logan's back to let him know she was there for him.
On the way home, Logan called Mitchum. He left a message on his voice for him to call Logan as soon as he gets this message. Pink, Lavender and Green. This was the code that the family had adapted a while ago so that anyone else would not know what they are leaving messages for. Pink is Honor. Green is Logan. Lavender is Shira.
Logan and Rory got home around 4am. They both headed to bed. Logan put his phone on charge. As they lay in bed Rory said. "Logan, I will help as much as you want, or I will stay out of it as much as you want. You just let me know." "thanks."
They had just dozed off when Logan's phone rang again. This time it was Mitchum. "Dad" "Logan, son, what is going on. I just checked my messages on the way to the bathroom. What has happened to your mother?" "How did you know it was her?" "If it involves you and Honor it has to be about Shira. What has she done now?" "She is in the hospital. Honor is meeting me at Mom's house in the morning. We have some decisions to make." "What is wrong with her. Did she overdose?" Mitchum said with a chuckle. "Yes, or attempted suicide. The Dr. Wilson is not sure." "Okay, I will meet with you. I don't know what I can do." Logan closed his phone shacking his head. "My dad will never change" As he crawled back in the bed.
The next morning, Logan left to meet Honor and his dad. Rory left to go pick up the boys. Logan was the first to arrive. He has a key, so he opened the door. He was not sure if Evelyn was there or not. He walked in and called her name. She came out of the kitchen and met him in the hall on the way to the study. "how's your mom. I called the hospital, but they said she was not there" "She is going to stay in the hospital for a few days. She is not registered under her name." Evelyn nodded. "Honor and dad will be here shortly. Could you please make a pot of coffee and maybe find some muffins and fruit? I will be in the study, just tell them where I am. Thanks Evelyn. After I have met with Honor and Dad, I would like to meet with you and Robyn in my study. Thanks again"
Logan did not have to wait too long. Honor and Evelyn entered at the same time. Evelyn had a tray with a pot of coffee and several mug. "I will be back in a few minutes with some fruit and some homemade biscuits. Robyn is just taking them out of the oven. Honor can I get you something special?" "No Evelyn, what ever you are bringing for Logan will be fine." Evelyn left to go get the rest of breakfast. "Before dad gets here, we need to make some decisions on the house." Logan told Honor. "After will meet with dad, I have a meeting with Evelyn and Robyn. I'm thinking of giving them the rest of the month off. It's according to what we decide today, I may give them the month of January off." "With pay, right?" Honor asked. Logan nodded. "You should have them come in for half a day, once a week. Just to check on things. What are you going to do with mom's dog?" "Oh, I thought you could take her" Logan said with a laugh. "No, she can go to doggy daycare. I will take her and keep a check on her. Maybe we can find a facility that will let her have her dog."
Logan and Honor were laughing when Mitchum entered the study. This is awkward for both Logan and Mitchum. Logan was sitting behind the desk, Mitchum in the chair in front of the desk. They both are used to it being the other way around.
They talked and made phone calls for about two hours. They finally agreed on a place in California. It was a high-end detox facility that catered to rich and famous. Cliffside Malibu in Malibu California. The only problem is it's Christmas. They would prefer not to take on any new people until after the Holiday's. Honor and Logan decided that Shira would stay with Honor when she gets out of the hospital. Evelyn will come to Honor's house for half a day to help with Shira. They have an appointment January the 2nd to take her to California. It was also decided that Logan and Honor will take her. Now Logan had to explain to Rory that the day after they are married, he will be flying to California.
