She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl
Chapter 22
Logan, Rory, and Mia went into town to get breakfast. They took a seat at a table in the back of a diner that reminded Rory of Luke's. They were waiting on Collin, Steph, and Finn. They didn't have to wait long. Logan spotted Finn right away. He stood up so that he could wave them over. Mia ordered pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon.
Finn: "Little Love, are you sure you can eat all of that?" Mia looked at Finn with her mouth full and nodded.
Mia: "If I don't, Daddy Logan will eat them." she said when she swallowed
After they finished eating, the girls went shopping, while the guys talked about the Dugray situation. Logan wanted Collin to check into their finances.
Logan: "Dillon will be here today. He will be able to get started on backgrounds and such. He may run into a problem with Tristan. Him being in the military, but I need the financials sooner rather than later." Collin took out his phone and started taking notes. Collin and Logan were discussing information he needed when Finn finally spoke up.
Finn: "Mates, are we going to spend the whole vacation on bloody Dugray?" Finn looked like a puppy with sad eyes. He was disappointed.
Logan: "No, Finn, But I am going to spend my whole vacation making sure Mia is okay and taken care of."
Finn: "I know mate," He was sorry he said anything. Mia's wellbeing is all that matters.
Steph: "Collin told me a little of what is going on," Keeping an eye on Mia who was looking at ski suits down the aisle. Rory nodded.
Rory: "They will be here today. Logan has Dillon coming in too. I want him to get to the bottom of why they want to spend time with Mia. It's like Tristan is being pushed. He doesn't seem to mind, but I don't think he would push the issue if it wasn't for Nancy," Rory was whispering so that Mia wouldn't hear.
Mia walked back over to her Momma and Aunt Steph.
Mia: "Can I get this?" She was holding up a ski coat with Barbies on it. Rory took it from her and looked at the price tag.
Rory: "Sure, but I want you to find some wool socks and a new pair of snow boots," They
walked toward the boots. "She is growing like a weed. I just bought her a pair of snow boots when school started."
Steph: "Yes, kids are expensive," Steph was smiling. "Did you know that it cost $13,000 to raise a child in an average home?" Rory raised an eyebrow.
Rory: "That must not include a private school. I pay $25,000 a year for Mia to go to school. Let me rephrase that, My dad pays $25,000 a year for Mia to go to school. He paid this year. He says it is because Logan and I were not married yet. And it was his responsibility as a grandparent to pay for school. My grandparents did." Rory shrugged her shoulders. "My grandparents got wind of it and insisted on buying her uniforms. Mom could be left out, she insisted on buying a backpack, lunchbox, and snack box." Rory was laughing. "Yes, you can imagine Lorelai's granddaughter going to school with a backpack, lunchbox, and snack box with Paw Pal all over it. She is only allowed to carry it on dress down Friday.
Steph: "Oh, I remember them. You would wear your tightest jeans and hope you got sent home." Steph was laughing at the memory.
Rory was texting Logan, that they were finished shopping for now and we're ready to go. He is sending the car for them. They were walking back toward the diner. That is where the car will pick them up when it hits Rory.
Rory: "Steph….How do you know what it costs to raise a child?" Rory was looking at Steph waiting on a reply. Steph turned to Ror.
Steph: "Google," Steph was smiling. "
Rory: Why did you google it?" Still looking at her long-time friend.
Steph: "To shut Collin up," Steph stopped in the tracks to look at Rory still smiling, well maybe grinning.
Rory: "Are you?" Rory's eyes were wide. Steph smiled and nodded. "Oh, my, gosh. I can't believe it. You and Collin are going to have a baby," Rory was a little too loud.
Steph: "SSHHH, I am not ready to tell the world," But she couldn't get that grin off her face.
They made it to the diner and the car service was waiting. The driver opened the trunk and helped them put the packages away. All the way to the Chalet, Rory kept looking at Steph and grinning.
Rory: "I just can't believe this."
When they got back to the Gilmore's Chalet, the boys had already returned from their errand. Dillon was with them. Richard and Emily were out with friends. The younger adults had the Chalet to themselves. Dillon stopped talking when the girls entered the room. Mia entered first, having pulled her snow boots off on the porch. She made a beeline to Logan.
Mia: "Daddy, I got some purple snow boots and a pink Barbie coat." She hopped up into his lap. She didn't realize that she had left the Logan part off of Daddy Logan. Logan wasn't going to correct her. "Hey Uncle Dillon, when did you get here?" Mia was smiling at Dillon.
Dillon: "Your Dad picked me up at the airport while you were shopping." Dillion was watching her.
Mia: "Oh, okay," She jumped down from Logan's lap. "You going skiing with me? Aunt Gigi" Mia was laughing. "Thinks she is going to teach me how to ski." She was laughing with her hand over her mouth. "Momma." She hollered. "I'm hungry," and off she went. Dillon was smiling. That girl put the spunk in the office when she visited. He started keeping candy and bubble gum in his desk drawer just for her.
Logan: "Dillon, come back to earth," Logan was trying to get Dillon's attention.
Dillon: "Yeah, Okay, You are going to be a wonderfully attentive host on their first night here. I was thinking you should invite them over for supper tonight." Logan looked at him.
Finn: "You want to watch them, observe," He injected himself into the conversation, trying to figure out what was going on.
Dillon: "No, I won't be here tonight," he looked at Logan, "I have somewhere else I need to be. Maybe I will make it back in time to observe." Dillon was smiling. Logan's eyes got wide.
Logan "Sure, let me run it by Rory and Emily,"
