Hey guys, just a heads up. I see maybe 5 more chapters. I have enjoyed writing these stories. I have another one swimming around in my head. I am not one that can write two or more stories at a time. I applaud those that can. Read and Review. There will be an epilogue. Give me some suggestions on where the kids will be by the time Rogan retires.
It won't be like this for long: Chapter 24
Chapter 24
Sunday morning was a lazy morning. Everyone was taking their time getting up and moving around. Rory was on the terrace drinking coffee and working the crossword puzzle in the Times. Mia was still in bed. The twins were both up eating cereal and watching TV. Still in their pajamas. Logan was in the shower.
"What time do you want to leave?" Logan asked Rory as he entered the terrace with a cup of coffee and a muffin.
"Huh?" she looked up at him trying to register what he said. "Whenever. I have no agenda for today. Check with the kids." she told Logan as he sat down to enjoy the cool air.
They spend most of the morning just being lazy. Because everyone had a late breakfast they decided to fly into Hartford, then drive to Luke's for a late lunch.
When they arrived in Stars Hollow, Lane met them for lunch. The diner was almost empty. Hanna was working the counter.
"Hanna," Mia said as they walked into the diner. Hanna looked up from the book she was reading.
"Hey guys," She said as she walked from behind the counter to hug everyone. "Let me call Jess, Let him know you'll are here." She said reaching for the phone.
Caesar came out of the kitchen to take their order while Hanna called Jess. It wasn't too long before Jess came down the stairs.
"Hey, what brings you to sleepy hollow?" Jess said, causing everyone to laugh.
"More like the funny farm," Logan said. This again got laughter.
Lane and Rory both tried to look offended. Lane told them about the Taylor Doose Festival. She talked with the twins to see what kind of booth they wanted to run. Rory talked with Lane. Mia is going to help her on the day of the festival.
After leaving the diner, they checked in at the Inn. Everything was going smoothly. On the way home, Rory fell asleep. Logan noticed that she has been tired lately. When they got home, he woke her up to go inside.
Rory was in the bed when Logan came into the bedroom. Usually, when he came to bed after her, he still beat her to bed. Rory always took her time removing make-up and moisturizing. She must have been doing something right. She still turned heads at 45 years old.
"Ace," Logan said. But she didn't answer. He looked at his watch. It was not 10:30 yet. He walked to her side of the bed and felt her head. She wasn't warm. He tucked the cover around her then went to the closest to shed his clothes and put on his pajamas. He was a little concerned. He hoped she wasn't getting sick.
The next morning, Logan entered the bedroom after his run, expecting Rory to be in the shower or just getting out. She was still in bed. He was now past concerned. He has moved up to worry. He jumped in the shower. He was out in minutes. That was the quickest shower he has taken in a while. He dried off and slipped into a pair of pants.
He sat on the side of the bed. He checked her again. She was not warm.
"Ace," he said, shaking her just a little. She opened her eyes, barely, and closed them again.
"Tired," she mumbled and rolled over.
"Rory," Logan said. "Wake up babe, I need to know what is wrong," Logan told her. He was still sitting there with just his pants on. Rory opened one eye, looked at him, and smiled. Then she opened the other eye, grabbing at her phone as she sat up in bed. Logan took the phone from her.
"It's 7:30. The kids are getting ready for school. Just stay seated and talk to me." Logan told her. Before she could say anything, she jumped up and ran to the bathroom, throwing up as she got to the toilet.
Logan followed her. He rubbed her shoulders. When she finished, Logan helped her up. She brushed her teeth, then Logan helped her back to bed.
"Do you think you need to go to the doctor?" Logan asked. Moving the strands of hair that had fallen out of her bun, off her face. She shook her head no. Before either one could say anything, Mia knocked on the door, and she and Hayden walked in.
"Come on dad, you are not even dressed yet. We got to go, I don't want to be late for school. Hayden said. Mia shoved her brother.
"Can't you see Mom is sick? She looks so pale." Mia said. Logan looked back at Rory. then the kids.
"Mia, you can take your car to school. Go straight to school, then straight to the office." Logan said. Mia was all smiles. "Mia, do you understand me. You are getting a break. Don't make me regret it." Mia smiled and nodded.
"Leaving in 5 minutes," she yelled as she shut the door to the bedroom. Rory looked at Logan.
"You need to finish getting dressed for work," Rory told Logan. "I think I am going to go back to bed. Maybe I will feel like going to the office later. If not, I will work from home. I will call Parker." Rory said.
Logan was reluctant to get up. He was worried.
"I think I will work from home today," Logan said, getting up off the bed.
"No, I will be fine, Olivia is here if I need her. Go to work. I will bring lunch." She told him. He studied her and nodded his head.
After Logan left, Rory got up and took a shower. By lunchtime, she was feeling better. She stopped by and picked up sandwiches for her and Logan.
The rest of the afternoon went great. Rory stayed on the phone with New York most of the afternoon. Mia and the twins checked in. All was good. After work, Logan and McKenzie went to Hayden's soccer game while Rory and Mia went home.
After supper, the kids were in their rooms while Logan and Rory were enjoying a movie in the family room. Rory brushed Logan off several times today when he asked how she was feeling. Logan was worried. He paused the movie causing Rory to look at him.
"Tell me what is going on. Are you sick? You not telling me has me worried. I would feel better if you would talk with me. At least then we can be worried about the same thing." Logan told her. His eyes pleading with her to talk to him.
Rory stood up. She grabbed a pillow off the loveseat and sat down, hugging the pillow. This concerned Logan. She had moved away from him.
"My…..I…..For the last year…..my periods have been rather irregular. My doctor…."
"When did you go to the doctor?" Logan asked. Why wouldn't she tell him about a doctor's appointment? Oh no, she is sick, she has cancer and doesn't want me to worry.
"Calm down, I am talking about when I had my yearly physical. Then I talked to her again when I took Mia for her physical." Rory said.
"Wait," Logan said. "When did she start going to your OB/GYN?" Rory rolled her eyes.
"Can we have one conversation at a time?" Rory asked. Logan nodded his head. Rory was getting frustrated.
"My doctor says that me having irregular periods is probable the onset of menopause." Before Rory could say anything else, he interrupted again.
"You're too young." He said making a face.
"Apparently not. Most women go through this between the ages of 40 and 58. So no, I am not too young… I called her today to make an appointment to run some blood tests. She wants to check my FSH levels and several others. She thinks I need to look at the different options of hormone therapy. I made an appointment for next week. That is the earliest she can get me in."
Logan wasn't sure what he was supposed to say. This is his wife. Since the day they married, maybe before, he knew his job was to take care of his family and to make sure they were happy. He felt like he was failing them. This was a problem that he was not able to fix. He needs to do some research.
"Okay, do you want me to come with you?" Logan asked. Rory laughed.
"No, I can do this on my own," Rory told him.
