She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl
Chapter 26
When the guys got back to the Chalet, it was busy. Logan, Richard, and Chris stood at the door looking around. Everyone was busy. They scanned the area, to get a better bearing of what was going on and where everyone was located. Logan spotted Rory talking with a maid. He made a beeline to her.
"Ace," Logan said to get her attention. She dismissed the maid she was talking to. Logan was still looking around the room, trying to come to the reality of the changes being made.
"Hey," She said, kissing him on the lips. "Did you get it all figured out?" she asked, smiling at him. He smiled back at her. He was holding her hands in his hands.
"I want to talk to you about that." He again looked around him. "Where is Mia? Upstairs playing?" He had her hands and was gently moving toward the stairs. His intention was to check on Mia, then tell Rory they needed to be cautious.
"She's in back," she pointed to the glass door. Logan could see her outback with a teenager. They were playing. "That's Holly, Estella's sister." Logan immediately reversed his path, heading for the glass door.
"Mia," Logan said as he opened the glass door. Rory was right behind him. Something was off. Rory was getting a feeling deep in her stomach that something was wrong. Her fear increased when she realized her dad and grandpa were right behind them. Logan had let go of her hand and was holding Mia.
"Logan?" Rory asked. "What's going on?" It was cold outside and she did not have her coat on. She was sure that was not why she was shaking. Logan turned around with Mia on his hip.
"Holly, can you and Mia play in her room for a bit?" Logan kissed Mia and put her down. He watched them walk up the stairs. He turned to look at Chris. Rory was sure they were having a silent conversation. He turned to Rory, but before he could say anything. Rory took his hand and led him to the library off the living room. When they entered, she closed the door.
Logan stood for a moment, then had a seat. He didn't relax, he was sitting on the edge of the sofa. Rory sat down on the coffee table in front of him. She sat there patiently waiting. She knew Logan had something to tell her. She was waiting.
"The meeting this morning with Collin was interesting, to say the least. He has some interesting finds. Richard took what Collin told us and gave his theory on what he thinks happened." Rory was still sitting there waiting for Logan to finish, hoping that something would make sense. "Rory," Rory's eyes got big, he hardly ever calls her Rory. "I want to tell you everything, but for now, I just need you to know that Mia could be in danger." Logan was holding Rory's hands. He could see tears puddling in her eyes.
"What do you mean danger? Why can't you tell me now? That's my baby. She never bothered anybody. The only thing that happened to her is that she was born. Do they hate her this much?" Rory was rambling. He had to keep her quiet.
"Hey, do you trust me?" Logan asked her. Rory looked him in the eyes. They were serious eyes. She nodded her head. "Then trust me to make sure Mia is okay." Before Rory could say anything, there was a knock on the door. Logan gets up, pulls Rory up, gives her a hug, then walks to the door. When he opened the door, Gigi was standing there.
"Rory, I was looking for you. I need to raid your closet." Gigi said, pulling Rory away from Logan. As Gigi pulled her sister up the stairs, Rory was looking back at Logan and Chris. They were talking. It looked serious.
When they got upstairs, Rory stopped by Mia's room. The door was open and Mia and Holly were on the floor playing Candy Land. Gigi pulled Rory into the bedroom and started looking through her clothes.
"I'm wearing my GRLFRND Hailey Low-Rise Straight Jeans with Splits and my Christian Louboutin Pole Chic Shearling Red Solo Combat Booties, Black. I just need a top or a sweater of some sort." Gigi said. She was steadily pulling tops out of Rory's closet. Rory's mind was on Gigi, but Mia. When Gigi finally got her attention, Rory pulled out a Pink Elaine V-Neck Wool-Cashmere Sweater and gave it to Gigi.
"This will be a little big on you, but I think being big will be just what you need to pull the outfit together," Rory told Gigi. Gigi held the sweater out so she could look at it.
"I think it will be perfect. What are you wearing? Gigi asked. Rory moved to the back of the closet. She pulled out her white Frida Long Knit Tunic Sweater by Ulla Johnson. She laid it on the bed. She went back to the closet, pulled out her High-Waist Suede Ankle Leggins in Chocolate by Sprwmn and her black Christian Louboutin Belle Leather Red-Sole Ankle Boots. She put her leggings on the bed and her boots on the floor.
"What do you think? Rory asked Gigi. Gigi nodded her head. "Let me show you what I have picked out for Logan. Rory went back into the closet. When she returned, she was holding Logan's Brunello Cucinelli Cotton Novel Cable-Knit Sweater along with a baby pink Line Button Down Sport Shirt by Canali. Gigi nodded her head.
"Khaki pants?" Gigi asked. Rory nodded and pulled out a pair of Incotex Washed Chino Flat-Front Pants and a pair of Achilles Patterned Suede Low-Top Sneakers. Rory was grinning from ear to ear. "Sneaker?" Gigi asked. Rory nodded.
"Logan loves to wear sneakers, he just doesn't get the chance very often," Rory said. "Mia is wearing a red Cable Knit Sweater Dress with black leggings and her Taupe ankle boots," Rory said.
"I approve. You know my niece will be the best-dressed five-year-old at any party." Gigi said. "I hear Dad talking about Mia changing schools. Where are y'all thinking of enrolling her?" Gigi asked.
Rory and Gigi stayed upstairs for a little while talking and chatting as sisters do.
