It was brought to my attention that I listed Mia's middle name in Chapter 18 wrong. I have fixed it. Let me know if you see any inconsistencies. I appreciate it.
She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl
Chapter 27
Rory was in her and Logan's room, getting Mia dressed. Mia was being somewhat uncooperative. She wanted to wear her unicorn dress. After a while, Rory convinced her that it was too cold for her unicorn dress. She and Rory were both standing, looking in the tri-fold full-length mirror when Logan entered the room.
"Don't my girls look beautiful?" Logan said. He was standing at the door admiring his two girls.
"Don't you look pretty too, Daddy Logan," Mia said. She was smiling so big. She walked over to Logan with her hand up for him to take her.
"Mia, Men are handsome, not beautiful," Rory told her.
"Daddy is handsome," Mia said.
"Are we ready to go? Our audience awaits us." Logan said laughing. Mia and Rory were both giggling. They walked out of the bedroom. When they got to landing. "Mia, I'm going to put you down so you can walk down the stairs. Okay?" Logan asked. "Take my hand."
The three of them walked down the stairs to their awaiting guests. It wasn't long before the party was in full swing. There were 10 couples in attendance. Everyone was enjoying themselves. Mia was never out of the sight of Rory, Logan, or Chris. She spent some time with Tristan and Anita. Logan and Chris took turns standing or sitting close by.
Before the party was over, Dillon showed up. He caught Logan's eye, then went upstairs. Before Logan could follow him, Collin stopped him.
"Dillon had information. He is verifying now. He will talk with us in the morning. Don't draw attention to him." Collin whispered to Logan. Logan nodded. Rory saw Dillon come in. She went to Logan, he took her hand, kissing her on the temple.
"Excuse me, everyone. I hope you are having a fabulous time. Welcome. After discovering that we have several friends that are in the area this week, we decided to have everyone gather together to celebrate the coming new year." Richard said standing on the 2nd step of the staircase. Richard was a tall man. He could see above most of his guests without standing on the steps. "I am not so old that I don't know that New Year's Eve is not tonight. But we were unsure of Mia's," Richard smiled at Mia and she waved at him. She was in Logan's arms. "Attendance on New Year's Eve. She is a very sought-after young lady. We were able to reserve today for her to attend. Everyone, say HI to Amelia Virginia Dugray. We call her Mia. My great-granddaughter." Richard said with a smile. "I have been informed that dinner is ready to be served if everyone will follow me to the dining room."
Everyone was talking to Mia. She was eating it up, but she would not let go of Logan. Logan and Rory were okay with that. Everyone enjoyed the meal. After eating, coffee was served. The older couples stayed at the table when the younger group mingled in the large living room.
After a few minutes of listening to the women at the table talk DAR, and fashion, Richard decides to do a little snooping.
"Gentlemen, if you will join me, I believe I have some brandy and Cigars in the study. Join me? Richard said. Everyone agreed. William Henderson, Chris Hayden, Jaylan DuGray, and Joseph Lambert all followed Richard to the Study. Logan and Collin notice this. They both exchange looks.
Dillon joined the younger generation in the living room. Everyone was mingling. He was introduced as a friend of Logan's. Anita was talking to Madeline and Louise. Madeline was telling her how pretty she was with her little baby bump.
"I can't believe in this day and time that you would get pregnant accidentally," Lousie said. Madeline elbowed her. "What? She knows what she did. She was looking for a husband. Tristan just happened to be who you set your sights on. Did you meet him in Germany? I know that he was stationed in Germany when he was married to Rory. Oh… Were the two of you having an affair while he was married?" Louise was grinning.
"Louise, keep your voice down. Not everyone needs to hear you." Madelyn whispered. She then looked at Anita. "I'm sorry, we don't let her out much. I will cut her off." She looked at Louise and winked. "No more alcohol for you. I will inform your husband." Madelyn walked away, looking for the twins.
"Anita, you and I both know what happened. You and Tristan hooked up. He didn't want a long-term commitment, you did. I just can't believe you got pregnant on purpose." Louise said. Anita grabbed her by the arm, pulling her down the hall.
"If you don't shut your mount, I will tell your husband that you faked the pregnancy and the miscarriage," Anita said. Louise just shook her head. "See we are all alike. I don't have access to my trust fund until I get married. So you just shut up, before someone with good sense hears you and tells Tristan."
In the Study, Richard, and the guys are discussing the latest stock market trends, when Williams asks Jaylan when he plans to retire.
"Hell, I'll die at my desk or a board meeting," Jaylan said. Taking another drag off his cigar. "Besides, Who's going to take over for me. Do I wait on Amelia?" This made Richard and Chris sit up straighter.
"What do you mean by that?" Chris asked Jaylon. "Mia," He made a point in saying Mia's name, "Is only 5 years old. You will have to last another 20 years for her to take over." Chris said, taking a sip of his brandy. "Besides, who to say she wants to take over for you. She had plenty of options. Hayden Enterprise, Gilmore International, DragonFly Inn, or even HPG". Chris was grinning at this point.
"Yes, I have every intention of leaving Gilmore International Insurance to Rory. I have someone in place to run it for her. She will oversee it." Richard said. He was smiling, he was so proud of his granddaughter. "I am sure that Christopher will do the same, as will Lorelai. Mia will have a pick at any of the businesses she wants to run." Richard chucked. "I have even set aside a trust that will allow her to start her own business if she so desires."
"Well, Richard, I am sure you are aware of what my mother has set up for Rory, Gigi, and Mia," Chris said.
"Yes, Christopher, Straud, and I discussed it before he died. He set aside money for any of Rory or Gigi's children. He was very thoughtful after Francine told him how it was going to be." Chris was laughing.
"Yes, Mother don't play when it comes to her girls," Chris said. Jaylon was just listening. He was not commenting on any of this conversation. William and Joseph both start telling about the trust that was set up for their grandchildren.
Logan and Rory took Mia up to bed before the party was over. When they returned, Tristan asked Rory if he could go kiss her good night. Rory told him yes. She followed him up the stairs. She told him not to wake her. Tristan opened the door and kissed his sleeping daughter on the head. When he stepped out of her room, he looked at Rory.
"I have screwed up." Rory looked at him. But before she could ask. He shook his head and started down the stairs.
It wasn't too long before the older adults called it a night. After saying their goodbyes, the young adults relaxed a little more. They talked at high school and college. Everyone seemed to be getting along. Madeline and Louise laughed about tails of Paris in college. They discussed Rory's nicknames.
It was getting late. The younger crowd decided they were too old to stay up past midnight two times in one week. As they were saying their goodbyes, Tristan whispered to Logan that he needed to talk with him and Rory alone before the end of the week.
