She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl
Chapter 34
Rory was in the elevator on the way to Logan's office. As soon as Harper returned, she called a car to take her to HPG Corporate offices. She is glad she is in the elevator by herself. She couldn't standstill. When the door opened on the elevator she stepped out on the executive floor. She was so inside her head that she did not notice Logan's assistant walking next to her. She was talking to her, but Rory had not answered.
When she got to Linda's desk she stopped. Where is Linda, she is always at her desk. She stepped away from the desk to just go into Logan's office when she ran into Linda.
"Rory," Linda said. "Are you okay? I have been talking to you since you got off the elevator." Linda looked at Rory with concern. She took in Rory's appearance. She was dressed for the office. The only difference is she is here in the middle of the day and she has a death grip on her purse.
Rory took a deep breath, "I'm sorry Linda. I am fine, just a lot on my mind." Linda nodded. She kept Logan's calendar. She knew that he set a meeting up with Collin about Mia. This must be what had her flustered.
"He is in a meeting, but it should be finished in just a few minutes. Want to just wait in his office?" Linda asked, nodding toward his office. Before either one could say another word, they could hear Logan coming down the hall talking with someone. When he turned the corner he saw her. She was beautiful. He thought, then he wondered what she was doing here. Was something wrong? Is Mia okay?
"Ace," he said and picked up his speed at the same time she did. He grabbed her hand and kissed her cheek. "Is something wrong? Is Mia okay?" She pulled him gently toward his office.
"Yeah, Mia is fine. I hope Mia is fine, I haven't heard anything to the contrary. I hope everything is okay." She was rambling. They had made it to the office and shut the door. Logan hugged her.
"Ace, you are scaring me. What is wrong? Here, have a seat." He looked at his watch. It was after lunch. "Here let me get you a drink. You look like you could use it." Logan said as he poured her a scotch. When he walked back over to the sofa she was sitting on, he sat down and handed her the scotch. "Tell me what is going on, What has you so rattled?" Rory took the tumbler of scotch. As she was putting the glass to her lips, she realized what she was doing.
"I can't drink this." She said loudly, handing the glass back to Logan as she stood up. She was pacing now. Logan stood up, putting the scotch on the table. He grabbed Rory by the shoulders to stop her from pacing.
"ACE!" he said, almost shouting. "What the hell is wrong with you?" He had a hold of her and was not letting go until he found out what was going on. She realized what she was doing. She motioned for him to come back and sit on the sofa with her.
"While I was logging into my calendar to make a notation of our meeting with Collin, I realized I was late." She was smiling. She hoped this would be good news for him. She wanted him to be excited, but she was scared. What if he just thought he wanted a baby?
"Ace, you told me earlier that you had a bad morning. Was it because you were running late this morning?" Logan asked. Rory looked at him confused. This morning had been a nightmare to be topped off with Walter walking in on her changing her blouse. Then it hit her.
"No, Logan. I am late. The last time I was late, Mia was born nine months later." She was watching him. She was waiting for him to realize what she was saying. The change of emotions on his face. First he was confused, then gradually as the pieces fell in place, he was smiling, which then turned into a grim.
"Are you?" he asked standing up. Now he was pacing. She was smiling. She was so blessed to have him in her life. Mia was blessed to have him as a dad.
"I don't know yet. I have a pregnancy test in my purse. I wanted you to be with me when I took it." She told him. He took her hand and pulled her up from the sofa.
"Come on, let's go." She said, leading her to the bathroom. "What do you have to do? Pee on something or in something?" Rory was laughing. She put her purse on the sink and got the box out. She read the directions on the box. With the pregnancy stick in her hand, she turned to him.
"I have to pee on a stick. This is something I want to do by myself. It will take three minutes for the results." She told him. He was still smiling, nodding. "Logan, step out of the bathroom. I will be right out," she told him, pushing him out the door.
True to her word, she was out of the bathroom. Logan was still standing at the door of the bathroom. She is glad he has a private bathroom. She took him by the shoulders, turning him around, pushing him toward his desk.
"Just have a seat. Set the timer on your phone for two and a half minutes." She told him. He did and they waited. It felt like it had been 10 minutes. When his alarm went off on his phone, they both jumped. Rory walked back to the bathroom with Logan following. She had left it lying on the sink. They both stood there. "You look at it. The box says two lines and we are having a baby." Rory told Logan. Logan shook his head and pointed at her.
Rory stepped up and turned the stick over. Two pink lines. She was watching Logan. He looked at the stick, then at her. The smile started showing on his.
"Whoopee!" Logan yelled. He picked her up and was spinning her around. Then he stopped. "Oh my, I gave you scotch to drink, you can't drink scotch." Logan was all worried now. "Do you need to go to the doctor, wait you had wine with supper last night? Ace?"
"Logan, yes, I need to make a doctor's appointment." He grabbed her hand and was leading her to the door. "No. I will call and make an appointment to confirm that we are pregnant. The wine I had for supper last night will not hurt the baby. I will not be having any more, until after the baby is born." She told him.
"Here." he picked up the office phone. "Call now. I want to go with you." She was laughing at him.
"I want you to go with me. But Logan, I don't have my phone. I don't have access to my calendar. I will need all of that to make an appointment." She was trying to explain it to him.
"Ace, Call now. See if she can see you today? It is a she, right?' He had never thought about it. He wasn't comfortable with another man looking at her lady parts." He had a frown on his face. Rory could help but laugh.
"Yes, Logan, It is a she. You know her. It is Carol. Carol Culverson. She is a friend as well as my OB/GYN." Rory told him. Carol had been a part of their group in college. She was not an LDB member, but she hung around with Seth most of the time. They are married and have twin boys who are 2 years old.
"Call her, She will see you today, I am sure," Logan said. Rory was shaking her head. She picked up the phone and called Carol's office. She was told her Carol was making rounds at the hospital and would be back around 2:00. When Rory told the receptionist that she needed her next appointment for a pregnancy test, She told Rory to come in about 1:30. She recognized Rory's name. She told her the doctor is usually back by them but doesn't see patients until 2:00. She is sure Carol will want to see her today. Rory agreed. It was 1:15 now, they would have to hurry.
