She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl

Chapter 35

Rory and Logan were quiet on the ride home. Mia was chatting away. She was telling of what was happening at her school. Mia being a child of only 5 years, did not notice that her parents were not listening.

At supper that night, both parents were still quiet. Claira knew something was going on. She figured they would tell her in time. She was very watchful of the two.

Logan entered the bedroom from putting Mia to sleep. It has been a long day. They decided to turn in early. Rory was in the en suite in the middle of her nightly routine, while Logan was in the closet changing into his pajama pants. He got in bed with his laptop. He was sitting up with his laptop on his lap, his reading glasses on his nose, concentrating so hard that you could see the wrinkles on his forehead.

Rory stood in the door watching him. She loves him so much sometimes it just overwhelms her. She walked to her side of the bed and got in.

"Did you have any problems getting her to go to sleep?" She asked him. He shook his head.

"No, three books, and she was gone." He told her. He was still concentrating on his laptop. Rory moved over to cuddle up to him, looking at the laptop to see what had his attention.

"Babe, you have 7 months to learn all of that. Put the laptop up, I want to celebrate. Rory said with a smile. Logan closed the laptop, putting it on the side table along with his glasses. Celebrate, yeah that sounds good to him.

The next morning Logan woke to Rory in the bathroom throwing up. He found her on the floor, leaning against the cabinets. He gave her a wet washcloth and helped her up. She brushed her teeth and let him help her to bed.

"Ace," He said as he helped her back to bed. "You want to wait to tell. It is probably going to be hard to do with you throwing up. She just nodded her head.

They had a meeting with Collin this morning before work. She had already told Harper that she would be late. Logan went down to breakfast where he found Mia and Kimmy eating cereal. He kissed Mia on the forehead before greeting Kimmy and Claira. Benjamin walked in the door off the patio.

"Good Morning my lovely, and you too Logan," Benjamin said. Logan laughed. Mia asked where Rory was. Logan told them that she was not feeling well and was still in bed. Claira smiled at him. Yeah, Rory was pregnant. Claira was sure.

"Logan," Claira said. "When you finish, take Rory this bowl of grits." Logan was going to protest. Rory told him she didn't want anything to eat when Claira continued. "These saltines and ginger ale will help." Logan looked at Claira and she just smiled. Logan shook his head. How do women always know?

Logan told Kimmy to take Mia to school today. The driver will be here at the usual time. He told her that he and Rory would drive themselves today. Logan hated driving in Manhattan traffic. That is why he has a driver, but this morning he would have to endure. He wasn't sending Mia to school with Kimmy driving.

Logan gathered the tray for Rory after telling Mia to stop by to tell her momma bye before she left. Logan entered the room and Rory was just getting out of the shower. He sat the tray on the bed.

"Are you feeling better?" He asked. She nodded her head. "Claira sent you some grits, saltines, and ginger ale." Rory smiled. Claira knew. "I didn't tell her, I think it is just a woman thing." He told her. "I called Collin, told him we would be a little late. He didn't have a problem with that. Kimmy is taking the car to take Mia to school. We can just drive."

Rory ate some of her grits, saltines, and drank her ginger ale. She was regretting it. Logan's driving was causing her to be sick. When they arrived at Collin's office, She excused herself to go to the lady's room. When she returned, Logan and Collin were already in his office reading over the paperwork. Collin was explaining to Logan and now Rory, that Mia will be Logan's child and he will be as responsible for her as Rory is. He also informed them that if Logan and Rory divorced, Mia would be treated like all other children in the marriage. If no other children, then Mia, would be treated as Logan's biological child. This was all standard stuff, but Collin had to inform them. They would be asked under oath if he had explained it to them.

Collin also informed Logan and Rory that the court date is set for March 28 9 am in the Judge's chambers. When they left Collin's office, Logan asked her if she was okay to go to work or did she want to go home. Rory told him that she is okay to go to work.

Logan dropped Rory off at The New York Times. When Rory got to her office she called her mom. She told her about the court date. Her mother suggested they have supper to celebrate. Rory thought that was a fantastic idea.

Before the day was over, the supper had turned into a party. Emily and Shira are now involved and the party has been moved to a banquet hall at the Morgan in Manhattan. On the way home, Rory and Logan discussed the party.

"I think that will be a good time to make our other announcement," Logan said, Rory agreed. She was looking at Mia, who was watching a movie in the car.

"I have an idea of how to announce it." She and Logan started the planning. Rory and Logan both were happy. Logan was officially becoming Mia's daddy and Rory is pregnant.

When they got home, they told Claira about the court date. She was all smiles. While Logan and Mia were in his office doing 'homework, Claira pulled Rory to the side.

"Keep saltines and ginger ale on your side table. Nibble on a few crackers before getting out of bed. The quick movement after being asleep and still for so long on an empty stomach is what causes nausea." Claira told her. Rory smiled. "Thank you. Logan was sure you had guessed. We will make the announcement at the adoption party." Rory told her.
