Misty Lola sighed happily as she rested her arms on the railing and looked out at the vast, seemingly endless expanse of deep blue water before her. It sparkled like diamonds in the sunlight shining down from a cloudless azure sky. As a highly successful model she had been to many fascinating and beautiful locations for photo shoots, but out at sea was one of her favourites.
The irony that she had become a Dark Signer after crashing her car into the ocean was not lost on her, but despite that her views had not changed. There was something about being out on the open waves, far from human influence, that she found deeply soothing. Out here time almost seemed to stand still. Not that she had any intention of staying fixed in one point, quite the opposite in fact. While she still missed her little brother Toby greatly, now that she had finally learned the truth about what had happened to him she could at last move on with her life.
At the moment she was currently on the deck of a luxurious white yacht, the Graceful Swan. She and two other models were aboard for a photo shoot for a fashion magazine article on swimwear. Misty herself was wearing a sleek black one-piece swimsuit and white sandals.
Misty was brought out of her reverie when the photographer, a man named Daniel, walked over. He was a few years older than her, with short black hair and sideburns. "Okay Misty, we're ready to shoot now" he said
She turned around and nodded at him. "All right then. Please make sure to get my good side."
He chuckled. "That's easy. All of your sides are good."
She posed, leaning back casually against the railing and smiled, looking every bit the picture of serene, elegant beauty.
"Perfect" said Daniel as he began enthusiastically snapping pictures while the other two models, Jenny and Iris, gazed at her with looks of awe. Jenny had red hair and green eyes while Iris had brown hair and blue eyes. Both girls had recently signed to the same agency as her and she had taken them under her wing, helping them learn what they would need to know to thrive in their careers.
All in all the day was going very well. That was about to change.
None of the people on the yacht had any idea that they were being watched. Beneath the waves a man was peering eagerly through a periscope.
"Ah what do we have here? Easy pickings I say." He looked over at one of his henchmen. "Prepare to surface!"
"Aye-aye sir!"
Misty had moved away from the railings and was now sitting on the stern, letting her feet dangle in the water. She looked back over her shoulder, her flawless smile still in place as Daniel continued to photograph her.
The water is warm. Maybe after we're finished I'll go for a swim she thought.
Just then she heard a scream of fright. Her smile became a look of concern as she stood up and hurried for the bow with Daniel following. They arrived to find Jenny, Iris and the Graceful Swan's captain, an older man named Benson, all staring in disbelief as a submarine rose up out of the ocean like a giant marine beast. As water sluiced down its sides a hatch opened on top of the vessel and four men climbed out. All of them were dressed identically in blue and white striped t-shirt, white nautical hats, blue knee-length jeans and black sunglasses. Their faces were stony and expressionless.
"What's going on?" Jenny asked fearfully.
Before anyone could answer her another figure emerged from the sub. Unlike the others he wore a blue outfit resembling a modified diving suit. His head was completely covered by a cone-shaped helmet with a black visor.
"Ahoy there! I am Admiral Anacis II, son of the greatest duellist to ever sail the seven seas! A pleasure to meet you all on this fine day." His voice was distorted slightly by the helmet but his words were fully clear.
"Likewise" replied Captain Benson. He was trying to stay calm but he couldn't hide his nervousness. "Can we help you?"
"As a matter of fact you can. That's a fine vessel you have there. I'm sure it will fetch a splendid price on the black market."
"They're pirates!" Iris wailed as she and Jenny clung to each other fearfully.
"That's right" said Anacis gleefully. "Now come quietly and you'll be fine. Give us any trouble and we'll throw you overboard."
"No."
That single word, spoken in a calm, clear voice, caught Anacis completely off-guard. He had expected to meet no resistance at all. He looked over and saw Misty looking directly at him with an expression of firm resolve on her lovely face. She stepped forwards.
"Duel me" she said. "If I win you'll leave us be. If you win then this vessel is yours. Surely the son of the greatest duellist to ever sail the seven seas isn't afraid to accept a challenge."
Anacis hesitated than laughed. "You have spirit lass. I like that. All right, challenge accepted."
Author's Note: Anacis II is indeed named after Anacis from Yugioh GX (known as Admiral in the English dub).
His appearance is based on the "Baron Bends" action figure made by Mezco Toyz. I thought the figure looked great and wanted to use the design in a story.
