She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl

Chapter 38

When the Judge dismissed the court, Rory, Logan, and Mia turned to wave at everyone. The next case was going to be called shortly, so they didn't have time to speak. They would talk with everyone at the party.

When they got to the Morgan, Finn met them in the employee underground parking. He used his employee badge to access the elevator. They bypassed the crowd of people heading to the banquet hall. Logan and Rory handpicked a couple of reporters and photographers. They were taking pictures of the crowd as they entered the room. Shira hired a professional photographer to take pictures of the family. She was also going to take candid pictures.

When they entered their hotel suite, Rory took her shoes off. She was wearing a business suit. The same thing she wears to work each day. The only problem is, her feet were swelling. She laid back on the bed. Her shirt rode up just enough that Logan could see her pants undone and tucked in. Her baby bump was showing just a little. If you didn't know better, you would just think that Rory had eaten too much.

"Babe," Rory said. "Hand me my black legging out of that bag." she was pointing at a garment bag. Logan opened the bag to get her legging out and pulled out a button-down, freshly ironed dark purple Tom Ford shirt that fit him like it was made for him. Which it was.

While they were changing, there was a knock on the door. Logan went to the door. It was Kimmy the nanny. She entered as Mia was coming out of the bathroom. Kimmy had come to help execute their plan to tell everyone about Rory being pregnant. Logan had changed his shirt. He was wearing his black suit pants, so he didn't have to change his pants.

Rory was wearing black leggings with a lavender Focus Tier-Ruffle Silk-Trim Tunic by Marina Rinaldi. She purchased one size up from what she normally wears to accommodate the baby bump. She didn't want anyone to know before they told them.

Kimmy was putting Mia's shirt on. It was the same color as Rory's but it had lettering on it. Kimmy put Mia's hair up in a neat bun on her head so that the front and back of the shirt could be read.

"Mia, daddy, and I are going down to the party. In a few minutes, Kimmy will bring you to us. I want you to smile and make sure everyone sees your shirt, front and back." Rory said. She knew that there would not be a person, including staff, in that room that Mia didn't show the shirt to. This was going to be their announcement. They told Mia on the ride over that she was going to be a big sister. She was excited. Kimmy figured it out when she was putting Mia's shirt on. She was glad that this family was expanding.

Rory and Logan entered the banquet hall. It was beautifully decorated. There were signs congratulating Mia for having great parents. Logan was handed two flutes of champagne. He and Rory were headed to the stage to welcome everyone. Rory quietly whispered to the server that she would like a flute of sparkling cider brought to her discreetly. The waiter nodded.

They were up on the platform. Mia was standing off to the side, behind a room divider. They both were looking out over the crowd. Rory was thinking this is the kind of celebration that she wanted. It was just family and friends. She was sure she knew everyone personally.

Logan tapped on his champagne flute with his wedding ring. Everyone looked to the stage.

"Now that I have everyone's attention…" He paused and took Rory's hand. "We would like to welcome you to our celebration. As you all are aware, Judge Rob," Logan nodded toward the Judge. He had been invited to celebrate as well. "Signed and filed all the paperwork that declared that I am the Daddy of Amelia Virginia Huntzburger. Many of you have asked where she is. Well now that she is my daughter, I have locked her in the tower, only to be let loose when her hair grows long enough for her prince to climb." Everyone was laughing.

"In all seriousness, I would like for you all to take a few minutes out of your time to speak with my daughter, Amelia Virginia Huntzburger. Mia come on out," Logan said.

Mia stepped on the stage and just smiled at everyone. She had been watching for the side. She was not scared. As she was smiling at everyone, Logan and Rory both were looking down at her and smiling. There was not hiding when someone in the crowd read Mia's shirt. There were gasps, whoos, really? Everyone started talking at once. Rory instructed Mia to turn around so that they could read the back. This got a squeal from the area that Honor, Gigi, and Steph were standing. They were not sure who it was.

Everyone was rushing the stage, this did scare Mia. Logan reached down and picked her up. The front of Mia's shirts said To Be Appointed Big Sister November 2019 The back says Times Two.

Everyone had questions. Rory and Logan tried to answer all the questions respectfully, even if some of them were not questions that should be discussed in public. Honor and Steph wanted to schedule a shopping day so that she could buy maternity clothes. Gigi wants to come too. Chris, Lorelai, and Luke were beside themselves.

Emily kept telling everyone that would listen that she predicted they would have children and they would have blonde hair and blue eyes. Mitchum asked if she intended to continue working? Logan was ready to rip him a new one. He was no longer in charge. But Rory stopped him in his tracks.

"Mitchum, I would prefer this does not go any further. I have yet to talk with my husband or my boss about it, but I think I would like to freelance. I think before I get too big, I will like to go ahead and train someone to take my place." Logan was looking at her, smiling. "Like I said, I would like to be the one to tell my boss, and I still have to discuss it with my husband, but two babies and an almost 6-year-old is going to be a handful." Logan took her hand and squeezed it. He was okay with this, as long as she was happy.

They received congratulations all day. Congratulations on the adoption of MIa and Congratulations on being pregnant with twins.
