She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl
Chapter 42
Logan and Mia refused to tell Rory where they were going. Rory was sure they were going to Stars Hollow, but she didn't want to spoil Mia's surprise for her. She finally snuggled into Logan and it wasn't long before she was asleep. Mia was bucketed in the third seat with her iPad and headphones.
When they passed the roaster at the entrance of Stars Hollow, Logan got Mia's attention. He took the iPad, then he nudged Rory.
"Ace, wake up. We are almost there." Logan said. Rory sat up slowly but didn't open her eyes. Logan laughed at her. She finally opened her eyes and smiled.
"Stars Hollow, Mia did you know about this?" Mia was laughing. Rory was looking out the windows when they pulled into the Dragonfly Inn. Her eyes and smile got wider when she realized Frank was pulling around to the Cottages. "Logan, are we spending the weekend?" She asked, bouncing in the seat.
"Unbuckle me, Unbuckle me," Mia was yelling. She was trying to undo her car seat, but she was not strong enough. Logan reached back and unbuckled her. She climbed over the seat and maneuvered to Logan's lap. When Frank stopped the car, Logan opened the door and Mia jumped out. She took off to the kitchen door and disappeared. Logan, Frank, and Rory were laughing. Mia knows her way around the Dragonfly Inn and Luke's diner.
"Logan, I hope you had someone pack us a bag," Rory said looking around to see if she could see a suitcase.
"Yes, Claira packed a bag for all three. If you are missing anything, we will go shopping," Logan said. Rory grabbed him and kissed him hard on the lips. Frank returned from putting luggage in their cottage.
"Frank, you know the drill, Go get you some cookies from Sookie. You know she will have some for you and for you to take home to your family." Rory told him. She still had a hold of Logan.
"Yes ma'am," Frank said as he walked toward the kitchen door. Lorelai was coming off the back porch as Frank was stepping on.
"Frank, Sookie is waiting. She has you some cookies, a cake, and some sandwiches. She wasn't busy this morning." Lorelai said laughing as Frank shook his head. He was glad that he worked for Logan and Rory instead of the car service. Logan hired him after he and Rory started dating. Frank was their driver, but he also took care of the maintenance on all their cars.
When they got inside the Dragonfly, Mia and Frank were sitting at the counter eating cookies and drinking milk. Logan patted Frank on the back.
"Take your time Frank. When you are finished, you can head home. We won't be needing you until Sunday. I will text or call to let you know about what time." Logan told him. Frank had his mouth full of chocolate cookies, but he nodded.
Rory and Lorelai moved to the dining room, while Logan joined Mia and Frank for cookies and milk.
"Were you surprised?" Lorelai asked as they sat down at a table in the back of the dining room. Rory nodded.
"I didn't know anything about it until I realized we were going in the wrong direction. Then I figured it out, but I didn't say anything. Mia was so excited to surprise me." Rory told her.
They talked for a little bit, then Rory, Mia, and Logan took a walk through town. They were going to visit Luke's and hopefully see Lane. The 10-minute walk took about half an hour, everyone they saw stopped and spoke to them.
When the bell over the door at Luke's dinged, Luke didn't have time to look up before Mia grabbed him around the legs and was hugging him. Luke enjoyed being Grandpop. They spent some time at Luke's. Mia helped him clear tables. Everyone was giving her tips.
That night, Lane and her family, Sookie and her family, Lorelai and Luke, Rory and her family all gathered in the dining room of the Dragonfly Inn to have a game night. Michel joined them for a little while also. Everyone enjoyed themself. They had several games going on. Monopoly was set up on one table as Luke brought the ping pong table out. Mia was playing candy land with Martha. Marhta called herself babysitting.
When Logan and Rory crawled in bed, they both were tired. Mia decided she wanted to spend the night with Lorelai and Luke. Rory nor Logan protested. They could sleep in.
Logan remembers telling Rory that because Mia was spending the night with Lorelai they would be able to sleep in. So why was he awake? It was still dark outside. He looked around the room. He was looking for Rory, she was not in the bed. He heard the doorknob jiggled. He watched it as the door opened and Rory stepped in carrying a whole pie and a jug of milk. She was trying to be quiet, but she stumped her toe and yelped. Logan started laughing.
"You would make a bad cat burglar," Logan said. Rory jumped, she thought he was still asleep. "I was hungry. All I could think about was that pie Luke brought that didn't get eaten. I was afraid Sookie would throw it away." She told him, At this point, he was laughing.
The next time he woke up the sun was coming through the windows. Today was the day. They are having their gender reveal. He wants to surprise Ace, but it is probably in his best interest to tell her this morning. He opened his eyes. He saw her sitting on the sofa reading a book. That is his Ace, she is reading. She will always find time to read.
"Hey, babe, Come back to bed. I have something to tell you. I was going to keep it as a surprise, but in full disclosure, I want to go ahead and tell you." This intrigued her. She put her book down and moved toward the bed. She snuggled up with Logan. "What is my surprise?" she asked. She was smiling. How did he get so lucky?
"We are having the gender reveal today. Everyone is coming. Lane and Honor planned it. Lane is supposed to be the only one that knows the genders." Logan told her, kissing her on the head.
"The boys will be here? My grandparents? My dad and Gigi?" Her smile was so big Logan was afraid she was going to split her lips.
"Yes, all of them along with most of the town. I can't wait to see the town interact with Finn. Your momma, Shira, how will she act? It will be funny to see Kirk ask her questions with his pig in his arms." Rory was laughing so hard she was rolling on the bed.
It was getting close to lunchtime. Mia had already been to the cottage to make sure they were awake. Lorelai sent her. The gender reveal is after lunch. When Rory and Logan got to the Inn, Sookie had soup and sandwiches waiting for them. Mia led them to their table. She tried to help Rory sit down, but Logan had to assist. Mia then asked what she could get them to drink. She was the hostess. She was so cute.
After the lunch, and dishes cleared, the guest for the gender reveal started showing up. Some were sitting on the front porch, some on the back. Lane was out front with Kirk, she was directing him on the decorations.
Everyone was directed to the side yard where Lane and Honor set up for the party. There were cupcakes everywhere. Some cupcakes were all blue, some were all pink, somewhere half pink half blue. Steve, Kwan, and Trac had buckets of ribbons. Each person was instructed to pick two and pin them to their clothing. Rory and Logan were sitting on top of a platform made out of hay. They were laughing about Taylor planning another hay bale maze. Rory noticed the ribbon.
"Hey Taylor, are those the old Luke and Lorelai ribbons?" Rory asked. Everyone was talking at once. Lane just nodded. Rory was laughing.
"Ace, you have to tell me about that," Logan told her. She proceeded to tell how Taylor asked the town to pick sides when Luke and Lorelai started dating so that when they broke up, they wouldn't have to decide which side to take. Now Logan was laughing.
"Okay, Is everyone ready?" Lane asked, getting everyone's attention. "Mia, Where are you?" Lane was looking around.
"I here," Mia raised her hand to show Lane where she was. This was cute, everyone thought it was funny. Zach picked her up and stood her in front of her parents. Lane walked over with two cans of silly string. One with a big A on it, the other with a big B on it.
"Okay Mia, remember how we practiced last night?" Lane asked. Mia nodded her head and stood between the two bales of hay that her parents were sitting on. Lane was shaking the can of silly string, then she gave it to Mia. "This one is Baby A, and Momma is your target." Lane said. Mia was grinning. She gave the can a shake and pointed it at Rory's belly. When she pushed the tip, Rory's baby bump was covered in pink silly string. Everyone was clapping and yelling. Another Gilmore Girl. Logan and Rory were grinning. They didn't care, boy-boy, girl-girl, or boy-girl.
Logan reached over and kissed Rory, then he kissed Mia. Lane told Mia she had one more to do. Lane took the empty can and gave her another can of silly string. Mia shook it up a little before she pointed it at Logan's head. She pushed the tip and Logan found himself covered in blue silly string. Again, everyone erupted in clapping and laughing.
Honor stood in front of the crowd trying to get their attention. Luke finally got everyone's attention and told them to listen to Honor.
"I'm Honor, I and Logan's sister. I just want to thank everyone for coming and tell you to help yourself to cupcakes, lollipops, and all the goodies." Everyone ate, mingled, and congratulated Logan and Rory.
Logan was having a great time, but he was watching his mom making sure she didn't do something. Shira had accepted Rory and Mia into the family, but sometimes she forgets she did.
