Rory was upstairs getting ready. Tonight is Mia's end-of-the-year school program. Logan should have been here by now. She is 15 weeks pregnant and her pants are uncomfortable. Leggings are too hot. She had some cute sundresses, but that was not right for the occasion. She is sure that Emily and Shira will disown her on the spot if she showed up in a sundress and sandals.
She finally decided on a peach-colored Chelsea Maternity Nursing Dress from the Stowaway Collection Maternity. She accented it with a choker made of small freshwater pearls. After much debating, she decided she will wear her Alexa Suede Crystal Flat Sandals by Alexandre Birman and she will dare anyone to say something about her shoes. The plan for after the program is to go to Moryagon's.
Shira called the first of the week to get a headcount. She was making reservations for the private room. At least it was somewhere that had a kid's menu. It was going to be a long night and it was cruel to ask her to wear heels.
She was just strapping her sandals on when her phone rang. She picked it up off the nightstand where it had been charging. It was Logan. She had an unsettling feeling.
"Logan, you are calling to tell me that you are pulling up, correct?"...The frustration on her face right now could only be described as painful. She listened. "Okay, I will send Frank back to you. If you are not there when they dim the lights, you are going to explain to that baby why. You will also explain to your parents, my parents, my grandparents….I love you too."
Rory was rolling her eyes as she pulled his Navy blue Tom Ford suit out of the closet and into a garment bag, She added a peach-colored button-down shirt and his brown Riley Gancini-Embossed Leather Loafers by Salvatore Ferragamo. She added his "ace" cuff links. She headed downstairs where Franks was waiting on her.
She sent Kimmy and Mia ahead. Mia had to be there early. Frank was supposed to drop them off and go pick up Logan. Now, Franks will drop her off and take Logan his suit to change into. Hopefully, Logan would get there on time.
Frank dropped Rory off at the entrance. When she entered the lobby, she saw Josh. On her way to Josh she was stopped several times by parents that had not realized she was pregnant. Yeah, right. She knew that when She and Logan got married, they were all the gossip parents talked about. She is sure they have seen her dropping Mia off or picking her up. They just wanted to let me know, they knew. Rory thought. This was making her head spin. If only Logan were with her, he knows how to remove them from any group without seeming rude. Or not polite.
Honor grabbed her. "Rory, oh don't you look so cute. I love the shoes. They are perfect." she said laughing. "Where is my baby brother? He is not parking the car?" Honor asked with a concerned look on her face. She knew that Logan nor Rory rarely drove in the City, especially since they hired Frank.
"He sent Frank back for me. I sent Mia and Kimmy ahead. She had to be here early. He was supposed to come back with Frank so he could change, but he called. He had one more meeting. But he promised to be here before the lights dim." Rory told her. Rory could tell Honor was not too happy about this.
"You know we are leaving in the morning for a week in Florida. He is finishing up so that he will not have to work while we are on vacation." Rory told Honor. Why she felt the need to defend him, she didn't know. Maybe it was because she loved him. She knew he was doing this so they could leave for Florida in the morning. They were taking Mia to Disney World.
Before Honor could respond, Mitchem and Shira walked up. They greeted each other then Honor showed them to their seats. Rory was going to wait on her family. She didn't have to wait long. She could see her grandpa at the door. He was tall and easy to recognize. She held up her hand so that he could see it.
She watched as Emily, Richard, Lorelai, Luke, Chris, Gigi, and Francine walked to her. She greeted everyone. Emily asked if Logan was in the auditorium saving them a seat. Before she could answer, she saw him coming down the hall.
"No, here he is," Rory said as he kissed her on the cheek, then greeted everyone. Rory told him that Honor and the rest of the family were already in the auditorium.
They had just sat down when the house lights dimmed. Logan leaned over to Rory. "I told you I would make it." She smiled at him.
Everyone clapped as Mia's class danced around, showing the parents and families what they learned in school this year. Then they were each given a certificate. When the program was over, Kimmy brought Mia to the family in the lobby. They were having a reception of sorts. They only planned to stay long enough to be polite, then they headed to the restaurant.
When they got to the restaurant and were seated in the private room, Mia was showered with gifts. Everyone told her how proud they were of her. They told her they enjoyed watching her show them what they had learned.
Lorelai and Luke were going back to Rory and Logan's house with them. The five of them were leaving for Florida in the morning. Mia was excited. So excited she was asleep before they left the City.
