I need some feedback. I have about 3 or 4 more chapters. Do you want me to end with an epilogue or would you like a sequel, 10 years later? Something like When Fate Steps In? Let me know. I am coming to an end soon.
She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl
Chapter 46
Fall was in the air, well if you want to get real, it is getting chilly. Just last month it was beautiful outside. The weather was great, now it is chilly outside. Logan and Rory had enjoyed after supper strolls. Mia would ride her bike or scooter while Logan and Rory walked. As Logon exited the car, he could tell there was a chill in the air.
Rory and Mia have been debating (arguing) about her Halloween costumes. Mia wanted to be Chucky's Bride although she has never seen the movie Chucky. All Rory could figure was someone in school who told her about Chucky. Rory wanted her to be a princess or a Disney character. Logan found them in Mia's room debating this when got home from work. Mia was whining, she wanted to put on scary makeup. Logan listened for a few minutes. He was treading lightly Rory is 36 weeks. According to Dr. Carol, the babies could come at any time. Twins are usually early.
"Good afternoon, my sweet ladies. How was your day?" He said smiling, he leaned in and kissed Rory, then Mia.
"Same debate we have been having for a week, " Rory told him. "Help me up. Please," Rory was sitting on Mia's queen size bed. Logan helped her up.
"I have a suggestion that I think you will both like." He told them. Mia and Rory just looked at him. How could her daddy know anything about costumes? Mia was shaking her head.
He guided Rory down the stairs to the family room. When they were seated, he pulled his phone. He had been working on finding a solution to the costume problem on the way home.
"How about if you dress as Mal from the first Descendants movie? You can dress like she did when she was on the isle of misfits." Logan said. He was watching them. He handed Mia his phone. He had Mal's picture pulled up.
"I like that idea, Daddy. You are smart. Mommy? Can we do it?" Mia asked. She was smiling. It took Rory a minute to think it through, but he could see the smile forming on her lips. He let out a breath that he didn't realize he was holding.
"Yes, Daddy, How did you get so smart?" Rory said. She then looked at Mia. "We will get started on the costume this weekend while you are staying with Nana." She took the phone from Mia and sent the picture to herself and Lorelai, with a text. This is Mia's Halloween costume. Can you do this? Lorelai texted back almost immediately, No, problems, will start looking for material tomorrow.
They were eating supper, talking about their day. This was something Logan had longed for when he was growing up, so this is one of the few rules that Logan had. They discussed when they would leave for Connicute. Again they were staying in the Gilmore's pool house. The Country Club shower is Saturday. Mia was staying with Luke in Stars Hollow, while Logan and the boys played golf. Logan wanted to be close to Rory. Logan was hoping to get through this weekend and next without having to rush Rory to the hospital to deliver the twins.
Shira and Emily had a baby shower planned for this weekend at the Country Club. Next weekend is Halloween. They would spend the weekend in Stars Hollow so Mia could go trick or treat safely, then another baby shower Sunday.
Friday morning, Logan was up getting ready. Rory was awake, but as of late, she remained in bed until after Logan and Mia left. Kimmy was helping Mia get dressed. Rory and Mia's routine was for them to pick out her clothes for the next day the night before. Not that there is a lot to choose from, she wore a uniform to school. But it helped Rory feel better about not getting up. After Mia ate breakfast, she would come to sit in bed with Rory while she waited on her daddy to finish getting ready.
After they left, Rory decided to go ahead and get up. She needed to get packed. As she got out of the shower, she heard a knock on the door. Rory grabbed a robe and answered her bedroom door. It was Claira.
"Mr. Logan told me to get one of the maids to come to help you pack. I was just making sure you are up. What would you like for me to have her bring you to eat this morning? What are those precious babies wanting to eat?" Claira asked.
"It won't do any good for me to tell you that I could pack by myself, would it?" Rory asked with a smile on her face. She should have expected this.
"No Ma'am, it would not. I have Kimmy in Mia's room this morning packing. Is there anything special she needs to pack for her?" Claira asked. Rory shook her head.
"I'll let her know if I think of something. Did Logan get the suitcases out of the attic?" Rory asked. Claira nodded and pointed to the bench at the end of the bed. Rory rolled her eyes, "Baby brain….Claira thank you so much for taking care of us. I think I will have butter toast, a bowl of blueberries, and some juice."
Claira nodded, closed the door, and went downstairs. Rory got dressed. She had on a pair of black leggings and Logan's old Yale tee shirt. She will change before she leaves to pick up Logan and Mia. Because Logan was in the city, they decided to leave Mia in the school she is in this year. She will start 1st grade at her new school in Great Neck.
Rory was packed and ready to go. She took a nap earlier. She talked with Logan after her nap. She was feeling pretty good, so Logan asked her what she thought about taking the copper. She agreed. She was just waiting for Frank to get there to pick her up. They would get to Hartford in plenty of time so that they would not have to rush for Friday night dinner.
Frank stopped at Mia's school to pick her up. This is normal for him. He got out to walk her to the car and get her buckled in.
"Hey Mommy, I glad to see you. Are you feeling okay? Kenzie and Hay being good today?" Mia asked her mom. "Are we going to pick up Daddy? He said we might fly in the helicopter if you feel good. Do you feel good Mommy?" Rory was laughing.
"I'm feeling good and we are going to pick up daddy and fly in the helicopter. McKenzie and Hayden are being good today," Rory told her while Frank drove them to the HPG building. Frank was smiling. He could wait till the twins get here.
Rory and Mia are in Logan's office waiting for him. He is finishing up a meeting. Rory was just coming out of his private bathroom when he entered his office. Mia ran to him and he picked her up.
"Mia, my girl, how are you today? Did you have a good day at school?" He asked. "Are you ready for the helicopter?" Mia was nodding her head.
"Kenzie and Hay are being good for Mommy today. She is feeling good." Mia told him.
"Ace, that true? My babies are not giving you a hard time?" She was smiling at her husband. Her husband. Sometimes she had to shake her head to clear the cobwebs to make sure she was not dreaming.
"Yes, they are being perfect little angels today. Let's see what happens when we get in the air." They both laughed. Frank had already taken their luggage to the helipad. Logan let Mia push the button on the elevator to take them to the roof.
When they landed at the HPG office in Hartford, a car was waiting for them. They arrived in plenty of time for Friday night dinner. What they didn't know was that Emily and Richard invited the whole family. Mitchum, Shira, Honor, Josh. Trace was at a football game. Lorelai, Luke, Chris, Gigi, and Francine.
When they entered the house for pre-dinner drinks, Lorelai, Luke, Chris, and Gigi were already there. Francine arrived shortly after they got their drinks. The rest of the Huntzburger crew came in later. They enjoyed their family time. They talked about the shower tomorrow and the golf game Logan was having with Colin and Finn. He asked Chris, Richard, and Mitchum to join them. He still is not sure what got in him to ask them to play golf with the boys. Luke and Lorelai left earlier than anyone else. Mia was going with them and they needed to get her to bed. Logan and Rory were not too far behind. Rory needs her rest, Logan declared.
Rory was ready to go. Emily had already left. She and Shira had to make sure everything was perfect for the shower. When Logan and Rory arrived at the Poolhouse Friday, Rory found an outfit in the closet. It was for the shower today. Emily must have bought it. She didn't say anything to Emily last night, but before they left, Emily told her to check the closet, she had purchased her an outfit for the Baby Shower.
So here Rory was, waiting on a car to pick her up. She was undecided on how she liked the dress Emily picked out for her. It was a Resort Emilia Silk Maternity Dress by Emilia George. The dress fits well. It was just a floral design. It made her feel old. Her mother was going to aggravate her about the dress.
She heard the car pull up out front. When she opened the door it was a limo. Rory was used to having a driver, but Frank drove an SUV, not a limo. The driver pulled up to the entrance of the County Club and opened the door for her. When she entered the lobby, she could see Francine just leaving the ladies room. Her Grandmother saw her and waited. They entered the sociality-decorated room together. Francine was shaking her head.
"Rory dear, I love you, I think you are a wonderful young lady, and I wish you the best, but these ladies, your grandma and Shira think that you are having the next Prince and Princess." Her grandmother said. "I enjoy a good party, but you are not royalty." Francine was laughing along with Rory.
Rory was enjoying herself. As predicted, Lorelai was laughing at her. Calling her an old lady. When it was time to open presents, Rory was put in the middle of the room. She was handed one present at a time. She opened the presents as Honor sat next to her recording who it was from and what the gift was.
It took Rory over an hour to open all the gifts. Rory had registered at several places. She even registered at a few high-end stores for the benefit of this shower, but she kept her list to things that she thought she would need, not the silver rattle or the silver spoons. She lost count as to how many of those she got. She did get some good stuff. She got a nice diaper genie, a bottle warmer, and a wipe warmer. Shira and Mitchum had already paid to have the nursery decorated. Honor paid for the furniture, she and Rory sat down at the computer and Rory told her what she wanted. Emily gave her the latest state-of-the-art stroller double stroller with the toddler step for Mia and a Prim to us until they are old enough to sit up in the double stroller. All Rory could think is she is glad they had that big house. She didn't know where she was going to store all of this, and she still has another shower next weekend. Richard had stepped to the poolhouse before he left and slipped her an envelope.
While Rory was opening the gift and smiling so much that her face hurt, she was thinking about all the thank you cards she had to write. Most everyone had left, but family. One of Logan's cousins and Lorelai went to school together. They were talking in the corner. Logan entered the room from the golf course with Finn and Colin. Finn had driven his escalade, so they filled the back of it up with the gifts. Finn is going to deliver them to Logan and Rory's house. Claira has been instructed to just have him set them in the family room until Rory could get home to see which gifts she could return. No baby needs 10 silver spoons.
They spent the rest of the weekend between Stars Hollow and Hartford. By Sunday afternoon, Rory, as well as Logan, were ready to get home. Mia was just enjoying all the attention.
