She Ain't My Blood, But She's My Girl

Chapter 47

Rory was again waiting on Frank. She had a doctor's appointment in the city. They were going to pick up Logan, see Dr. Carol, then pick Mia. After the doctor's appointment, they would decide to have Frank drive or take the Helicopter. Rory finally got Emily to agree to meet them at the DraganFly for supper. Logan and Rory were staying in one of the cottages.

Rory's exam was good. The twins were getting into place, they were both in position. When they asked Dr. Carol about Rory flying in the helicopter from New York to Hartford, she said that if Rory feels up to it, she believes it will be okay. The flight is only 30 minutes compared to 2 hours and a 20-minute drive in a car and that is only if the traffic is cooperating.

They picked up Mia and repeated last week's trip. This time Mia was peppering Logan and Rory with questions about her costume. They tried to tell her that she is the one that helped Nana work on it.

On their drive through town, they noticed all the Halloween decorations. There is a festival tonight. Logan opted to borrow a car from Honor. She and Josh left it at the Hartford office. When they pulled up to the cottage Mia was already trying to unbuckle. She made a beeline to the back porch and into the kitchen.

By the time Rory was able to catch up with her, she was sitting at the bar in the kitchen with a plate of cookies and a glass of milk. Sookie was asking her about her costume for tonight. Mia was talking in between bites of cookies.

"Did you finish my costume?" Mia's first question to her Nana when she walked into the kitchen.

"You will just have to come with me to see," Lorelai told her, taking her hand. "We will be in my office if anyone wants a fashion show." Logan helps Rory up and she follows them to the office. After modeling her costume, Mia did not want to take it off. Rory and Logan decided to take her to Luke then visit the festival. They still had plenty of time by supper with Emily and Richard.

Mia enjoyed showing off her costume. She laughed when her grandpop and Taylor yelled at each other. Rory sat at Luke's talking to Lane while Logan took Mia around to all the booths. They decided that after supper tonight, Mia would visit a few houses to trick or treat. She was gathering candy at the booths at the festival now.

The three of them made it back to the Dragonfly in time for supper. Mia was still in her costume, Rory could have changed, but why. She is permanently in black leggings and a top big enough to fit her twin belly. She was prepared to listen to Emily fuss, but she is 37 weeks pregnant. She was told the babies could come at any minute. She will not listen to Emily for very long.

Mia was already at the Dragonfly when Rory and Logan entered from the cottage. When she got close to the dining hall, she could hear Richard and Mia talking. She was explaining to him about her costume.

"Grandpa, next time I am at you house we will watch the Descendents. You will like it." Mia told Richard. Richard just nodded and agreed. As Rory approached the library for pre-dinner drinks, she was listening to Richard and Mia. She was glad that Mia got a chance to know and love her grandparents. She sat down smiling. She looked up, expecting Logan to be standing beside her but he was missing. She finally spotted him at the reception desk, talking with Emily and Lorelai. She went to get up, but that is impossible by herself without falling to the ground and crawling. Her grandpa shook his head. He didn't want her to get up. She would ask Logan later what that was about.

A few minutes later one of the servers told Lorelai that dinner was ready. Richard helped Rory up before Logan got to her. When she waddled to the table, Logan pulled her chair out for her before helping Mia get into her chair. The server brought the wine out but was unsure of who to approve it. Lorelai stood up and took the bottle. She pours a little into her wine glass before tasting it. She nodded to the server as she handed him back the bottle.

Rory and Mia are both drinking apple juice. They enjoyed a quiet dinner. The conversation was a little sedate. There was talk about business, the DAR, Mia's school then the subject Rory had been dreading.

"Rory, do you and Logan think it is proper to allow your daughter to dress like this for supper?" Emily said. Lorelai and Richard looked at her.

"Grandma, first I do not think this is a conversation that when should be having here," Rory said, but before she could finish Emily piped up.

"Well, this meal should have been at the family home. Then we could discuss this. I agree this is not the place." Emily said.

"Grandma, you did not let me finish. This is a conversation that we should be having here in front of my daughter. Second," Emily opened her mouth but Richard put his hand on her arm to stop her. "How Logan and I dress our daughter is a decision that he and I will make. Before you say anything. The decision will be made with all three family names in consideration. We will not embarrass the family names. And Third. I think I am at third. She is 5 years old and it is Halloween." Rory stood up. "I think I am going to take Mia back to the cottage to get her trick or treat bag. It is almost time to head to the festival." She took Mia's hand. Mia kissed her Nana on the cheek and told her thank you, for the meal. The child had manners.

The others remained seated as Rory and Mia left the room. Lorelai looked at Emily. She opened her mouth, but Logan stopped her.

"Emily, Richard, Lorelai, and Luke. Thank you so much for the meal and for agreeing to meet us here at the Dragonfly instead of at the Hartford Home. This makes it so much more convenient for Mia to be able to trick or treat. At her age, missing this is like losing a friend." Logan said. He paused for a minute. He wanted to make sure what he said next would be understood, but not harsh.

"Rory is 37 weeks pregnant with twins. They are your granddaughter and grandson, and your great-granddaughter and great-grandson. I am sure you want the best for Rory as well as the children. You would do nothing to harm them. I just want to remind you that Rory and I are capable of making decisions for our children. If you have any concerns, I would appreciate you discussing this in private with Rory and me. Thank you for a wonderful evening, I am going to find my wife and daughter and we are going trick or treating." Logan smiled at each and walked out of the dining room.

"Well, Richard, did you hear what he said to me? Now, I have no say in what is good for MIa. I can't believe Logan would talk with me that way. I will be sure to mention it to his mother." Emily said. With a huff.

"Emily, I did hear what Logan said. I agree with what Logan said. Do I need to remind you who Mia's parents are? Who are the parents of the twins? Just in case you do not understand. Rory and Logan are the parents. They make the decisions. Like what to wear and who they can see. That, my dear Emily, is something you should think about." Richard stood up. "Thank you for a lovely meal Lorelai. I saw some interesting books in your library. Is it alright for me to find one to enjoy?" Richard asked.

Luke had been sitting in his chair, eating and watching. He had to answer Richard because Lorelai was sitting there with her mouth open. He is worried that she may be in shock.
