Our group was standing around congratulating our teachers, while the news continued to report on All Might's standoff with the main boss, the one with the hands over his face.
"The pros were on top of this way before - well, before it got out of hand!" said Kaminari, catching himself before he gave Yaomomo's group away. I glared at him and he looked sheepish.
Mina's phone had rung in the meantime, and Tsu had called us up on voicemail.
"Isn't it amazing?" she gushed.
"Guess there's nothing else to do," I said, watching as our teacher stood, hands on hips, framing the villains who now looked small and helpless.
"And they've saved Bakugou too," said Tsu.
I nodded and looked back at the screen, where the villain leader had risen to his feet, despite Kamui Woods keeping him down...
And out of nowhere, black sludge appeared around him, strange explosions of bubbling murky gunk. From inside came crawling out the most hideous things I've ever seen - brains showing out of their skulls, misshapen eyes looking in other directions. I realized what they were: the creatures the League used for their pets. Noomu. Creatures strong enough to give All Might a hard time.
And the worst wasn't that. The worst part was that that black sludge came flowing out of Bakugou's mouth, consuming him and seemingly teleporting him away before All Might could seize him. Along with him, the rest of the villains were zapped out of Kamui Woods' arms, disappearing and leaving behind only a virtual army of monsters.
We all fell silent. It had happened in seconds, almost before we realized what was going on. In less than a few seconds, we could feel it - the aura of death and defeat. The heroes had done nothing but stand there, completely helpless, while villains whisked away our friend and escaped unscathed.
What the hell - what in the world was that? How did they - what did they?
And then another thought. Yaomomo...and the others who went with her -are they there?
Dammit, what's gonna happen to them? Are they there, with all those creatures on the loose? Or are they somewhere else? What villain did that? That wasn't the old warp gate guy, this was something else. Something way more powerful and dangerous, a villain who can - who can zap people from one place to another in seconds? I can't just sit here, not if they're - I have to -
I picked up the phone, thinking for one crazy second that I needed to call her - call Yaomomo, call our teachers and let them know where she and her group were - how crazy could I have been to encourage her to go? - cal the cops, I don't know. But then a hand grabbed mine.
It was Kaminari. He was looking at me hard. Saying with his eyes: Don't. It's too late for that.
Right. It wouldn't do any good now. Gotta stop. Gotta think. There's gotta be a better plan.
The TV Announcer was screaming what we'd already seen. "The villains have all been warped away! They've disappeared into nowhere and All Might is pursuing - it seems he has a lead on where they might be! Reports are coming in - our choppers are heading to the second location where the villains are reported to be - "
The camera changed over to what looked like the aftermath of a bomb attack. Part of the city had been decimated, obliterated leaving behind nothing but a crater and the distant images of a few famous pros left in the dust.
The League of Villains was there - and All Might had arrived already, facing off with a strange hovering figure in a gas mask and a dark suit.
Oh no - please don't let her be there - not there - even the Noomu attacks would be better. Please, no -
Bzzt.
My phone buzzed. I looked. Yaomomo.
"Got Bakugou. We're safe."
My heart buzzed up, then down, back to normal. It was later that Yaomomo told me what had happened.
It was all MIdoriya's plan. They'd arrived at the second location - the one that had been leveled soon afterwards - and seen Bakugou get transported by the sludge powers of the mysterious villain, named apparently All for One. Midoriya had come up with the idea to launch himself and Kirishima, using his own and Iida's quirks, into the air, while Kirishima called to Bakugou to take his hand and fly away to safety. He'd done as needed, while Yaomomo and Todoroki ran for it, and they'd all gotten away.
At the time, I was just damn relieved. In the aftermath, I was damn grateful that Midoriya was such a fast planner.
Cause if he hadn't done that - I don't know that what happened in reality wasn't pretty darn bad, but it could've been even worse. Damn grateful for small favors, I guess.
