Author's Note: Welp, heres the ending chapter... ive learned a lot while making this story. Most importantly, writing can be hard. But I've really wanted to make a fic for a while, I just couldn't think of what to start with. One day I had an idea for a story and decided to type it out on my computer. I did this often with story ideas I had. I thought this was a good plot for a fic, that maybe I should post it. So I flipped a coin, and it told me I shouldn't, but I was determined and ignored it. Thats how I officially became a fanfic author. I hope you've enjoyed the story so far, but I understand that its very rough around the edges, and I don't expect anything else, as this is still a story written by an amatuer. This ending is a testament to that as I tried to pad it out, but I still find it a bit rushed. Anyways, I hope that you atleast got some enjoyment, and that you'll enjoy this ending, but be wary, it's not exactly spectacular.
Disclaimer: I dont own NGE in any shape or form.
It was an hour later that they had made a solid plan. The only downside to it was that it could be some time before it would come to fruition, in the meantime, they would have to lay low and act as they had before. When they asked if the Commander would be suspicious, Dr Akagi assured them that he shouldn't be at the moment, and that she would make sure to tamper with any incriminating footage any camera's may have gotten of them.
The doctor then insisted that they leave immediately as it was late and she wanted to get to work so she could have time to actually sleep.
Kaji was the first to bid them a good night before heading off, as he had to make a few very important phone calls.
Kaworu followed shortly, deciding that he should walk home, refusing when he was offered a car ride to his place, telling them that it was a beautiful night out before walking off, whistling a tune as he did.
Shinji decided to stay with Rei again. Misato dropped them off nearby the girls apartment so as to not draw attention from any agents that may be monitoring the building, before heading to her home to get black out drunk, knowing that a certain redhead was probably going to be pestering her with questions. The couple took a minute to regain their sense of direction from the car ride before managing to get into her apartment unnoticed.
They had enjoyed their night and the day that came after before Shinji returned to his home.
The days that followed were rather uneventful, Shinji had to unfortunately deal with a seemingly always irate redhead at home. School had resumed for them, Shinji seeing Rei there who used her usual aloof demeanor as she always did at school, only sharing a few knowing glances and small smiles when she was sure no one was around. These were the only moments they could have at the moment, as despite the amount of time they would get to see each other at school and Nerv, they wouldn't be able to really do anything with one another.
Ritsuko had told the Commander that the reason behind Rei's fluctuation at the last sync test was simple because she had a small illness. He didn't look too much into it, as he had to have his own medical check ups to make sure the other inhabitant of his body wasn't effecting him.
Misato tried her best to act casual, but to anyone who knew her, they could tell she was somewhat on edge.
They had another sync test, where Ritsuko had asked Maya to not comment on Rei's score, to which she agreed without question, doing as her sempai had asked. It truly was a thin line she was walking, but one she knew to walk all too well. It was the others who weren't so used to it. Dr Akagi waited for a perfect oppurtunity in her schedule to do another check up on Rei and her pregnancy, running a few more tests. Everything seemed to be fine at the moment.
Despite the way they had somewhat easily fallen back into their routines, they all still felt worried.
-One week later-
Lorenz Keele, who was the head of the Seele and was currently the oldest living person thanks to his cybernetics, sat in his private chamber in his complex that was situated in Germany.
He was currently meeting with the other members of Seele, as well as Gendo Ikari via a communication link between monolithic devices. They were discussing progress they had in creating mass production evangelion models and its relation to their schedule at the moment and were about to change the subject, when it happened.
"Onto another matter we need to discuss, we have noticed that -thud- Huh? Who are you!… no wait- click" One of the other Seele members had been interrupted as a commotion occurred before their connection had been terminated. This caused an uproar among the members of Seele.
"What happened?! -Bang- What?! No, get away! click" Another member's connection was terminated.
One by one, Keele watched in silence as each of the monoliths had lost their connection, the sound of their panic-filled voices being the last he heard of them. If Keele still had eyes, they would have widened as they all cut off. He then realised it.
They had been found out, somehow, someway, and now he could do nothing as the door to his chamber was forced opened, a group of men dressed in military uniforms storming in before grabbing him from his seat
Gendo Ikari was speaking with Seele in his conference room, when all of a sudden their monoliths started going, their hysterical voice crying out, before being abruptly silenced.
It was obvious what happened, Seele had been overthrown.
He gritted his teeth as he knew whoever was behind this would most likely also know of his involvement to the group. Meaning they would most likely be coming for him as well.
He left the room, entering his dark office, only a small amount of light being able to reveal the large diagram of the ten emminations on the floor. He thought quickly as he considered what his next course of action would be. Ultimately deciding that he needed to speed up his scenario if he wanted to be reunited with his Yui.
He already had Adam in the palm of his hand, he only needed to get Rei and then make it to Lilith in Terminal Dogma, then he could get his wife back.
'Soon Yui' He thought as he moved to leave the office, when a boy stepped out from the shadows of the corner.
They had silver grey hair, pale skin, and red eyes and wore a simple white button up with black pants, he also appeared to be a teenager. But appearances can be deceiving.
"Going somewhere?" He asked, their voice laced with false sweetness.
Gendo didn't want to be impeded when time was of the essence. As such, he wasted no time in pulling out the small revolver he kept on him and fired two shots at the intruder.
An orange translucent hexagon appeared from thin air, the bullets bouncing off it, the event causing Gendo's eye's to widen from behind his orange glasses.
"How rude" They said mockingly, "Though I suppose I should introduce myself first, ahem, I am Tabris, angel of freewill"
'The seventeenth angel?!' Gendo thought with panic as his breath hitched.
"You shouldn't be here yet" He told the angel, as the only slightly viable option he could do was try and talk with the being before him.
"I suppose I shouldn't really be here, not according to your scrolls, but I chose to be here," Tabris told him as he grinned. He then took a step forward, causing the bearded man to take one back.
"And why did you choose too?" Gendo asked, though he already knew the answer.
"In order to get my father back of course,"
"Then why are you in my office, and not searching the rest of the building?" Gendo questioned, in a futile attempt to mislead the angel elsewhere.
"Because, a little birdie has told me that he is now in your hand," He looked at the mans arm that wasn't still holding the gun, from it, the angel could sense his father.
"speaking of, I will be taking that now" Tabris continued as he smiled, one that was laced with malice before he started stepping towards the man.
Nobody was around or close enough to hear the sounds that came from the Commander's office, the doors were locked, keeping the anyone else from leaving... or escaping.
The eva pilots had just finished another sync test. The sub-commander Fuyutsuki was the one overseeing it as the Commander was currently in a meeting. Maya Ibuki had said that everything was alright, prompting Dr Akagi to end the test. The pilots started exiting their entry plugs, when a group of armed soldiers in JSSDF uniforms entered the room and filed out. Footsteps could be heard from the halls as soldiers started filling them.
"What the?", "Huh?, "Hey!" Came some of the confused and upsetted responses from various technicians as they were put at gunpoint.
"Uh Sempai?" Maya had said as she raised her hands at the gun barrel. the faux blond doctor doing the same.
The three eva pilots had also raised their hands, the second child crying out indignantly at the soldiers.
"What the hell is going on here?!" MIsato shoute.
"Stand down!" came a gruff voice as two people entered, one being a captain, while the other was Ryoji Kaji who followed the man.
"Kaji?" She questioned.
"Good to see you Misato" He greeted.
"Why the hell is the damn Jssdf here?" She asked.
"Well they're actually here under the Prime Minister's and U.N's directive" He explained.
"Huh?"
"They are currently securing Nerv headquarters as we speak" He continued.
"We have orders to apprehend three people" The captain spoke up, "Gendo Ikari, Kozou Fuyutsuki, and Ritsuko Akagi are to be arrested under the authority of the United Nations to be tried for suspected crimes".
The blond doctor and sub-commander were seized by a set of soldiers as their arms were forced behind their backs.
"Sempai!" Maya cried out.
"Hey wait, Ritsuko helped though, didn't she? So why are you arresting her as well" Misato said in defence of her friend.
"It doesn't matter Misato" Ritsuko said in resignation as she looked at her purple haired friend giving a sad tired smile, "I've been been nothing but a willing tool for Gendo's plans, that doesn't make me much better than him. So what if I helped you? I've helped Gendo get this far. You could say I deserve this, but it just doesn't matter."
With that, the doctor was escorted out of the room along with the now former sub-commander.
Misato turned to Kaji and grabbed onto his shoulders, "Kaji, can't you do something"
The shaggy man sighed.
"Ritsuko's going to be put on trial before the UN, the most I can do is vouch that she had helped us. She shouldn't get anything too severe but…" Kaji trailed off, Misato letting go of him.
"Where is Gendo Ikari though?" the captain asked as they had yet to arrest the former commander.
"I'm afraid that he'll be a little indisposed" A voice came as the occupants of the room turned to Kaworu who was currently in a blood splattered shirt and pants, and was holding a severed arm that was in a black sleeve and had a white glove on the hand, "Indefinitely"
The sight made some people queasy, Asuka looked disgusted, Shinji paled and felt sick, while Rei nearly gagged up when she saw what was once the former commander's right arm still dripping red onto the floor.
"Though if you hurry, you might be able to stop all the bleeding, though I genuinely doubt it" Kaworu conrinued.
The soldiers obviously turned their weapons to the blood covered teen.
"Wait, wait, don't shoot" Kaji said as he tried to keep the pale boy from getting gunned down, but he seriously had to ask why he had to indiscreetly carry a bloody arm so nonchalantly.
"This is my informant who gave us the information necessary to do all this" He explained as he went near Kaworu, staying a few feet away as the boy dripped blood on the floor and reeked of it.
The captain just looked at the blood covered teen.
"Greetings, I'm Kaworu Nagisa" He said with a smile, creeping out some of the people around.
"Yeah… well... I think it would be best if he came with us for now" He said hesitantly.
Kaworu shrugged.
"I suppose thats alright, but this is staying with me" He said as he waved the severed arm.
Rei threw up in her mouth, while Maya fainted.
A few months had gone by. In that time, a lot occured. Kaji was there when Kaworu was questioned of his relation to Seele by the U.N, he ended up telling them that he was something of an ally at one point, but had found out that they wanted him dead. He also ended letting it slip that he was an ange. They were initially shocked and scared, but once he explained to them that he wasn't going to kill them, they had calmed down enough to ask him the why's and how's.
He explained that he made an arrangement to help dismantle Seele and stop all future angel attacks in exchange for his father to be returned to him. When they asked for Adam's current whereabouts, Kaworu simply pointed to the severed limb he brought with him. Kaji had told them that it was probably better if they finished asking questions. They decided that was for the best and let him go, seeing as how he most likely wouldn't take not being allowed to leave for an answer.
The entire topic of the arrests and the announced trials were discussed everywhere in the news and the media. Most of the important details were explained, but of course certain details were withheld from the public. Overall, to say that Nerv's reputation became somewhat tainted in the eyes of people, is an understatement.
It was only a week later when trials were held for all the arrested individuals of both Seele and Nerv.
All the members of Seele were brought before the United Nations at the world court. It was not very long, as every single member was charged with numerous heinous crimes that included high treason and the conspiring of the mass extinction of the human race and were found guilty, being sentenced to death for crimes against humanity. Some had tried to bribe there ways out, or use threats, but those attempts were only added to their lists of trangressions. In the end, most of them protested and threatened various people as they were dragged away to be put into custody. Out of all of the members, only Lorenz Keele remained silent, seemingly still at a loss for word from his defeat. Their sentences were carried out the following day.
A couple of days later was when Kozou Fuyutsuki was also tried before the world court and was found guilty of conspiring and acting as an accomplice to the former Commander of Nerv Japan, as well as having an association to Seele despite fully knowing of their goals and intentions. Due to the reasons behind his comliance to them, that being blackmail and other personal reasons, he was only sentenced to life in prison without a chance of parole. The old man did nothing to defend himself and accepted his punishment, a sad look of regret crossing his face as he was taken out of the court.
It was not long after that Dr. Ritsuko Akagi was finally tried before the world court. During the trial, Ryoji Kaji had explained that she was an asset in the planning of Seele's dismantlement, helping to provide information as well. The court had put the information under consideration. But in the end, she was still charged with being an accessory to the former Commander of Nerv Japan. She was found guilty, but due to her contributions, was only sentenced to twenty five years in prison with a chance of parole. Ritsuko was surprised at her sentence and gratefully accepted it. Misato had watched with commiseration as her friend was escorted out of the court room.
Gendo Ikari was to be tried on the charges of conspiring the mass extinction of the human race, treason, high treason, bribery, human rights violations, sedition, child endangerment, child neglect, and numerous other charges. He was found guilty, but unfortunately was unable to be sentenced to death, due to having bled to death. His body being found mangled on his office floor, his right arm was missing. Nobody was upset about his untimely death, not even his only son.
The trials hadmade headlines, sparking controversy among some people, especially towards Nerv as they were still allowed control of three evangelion units for the moment. Thankfully, the pilots identities remained anonymous to most the world, though the few who knew who they were, such as their classmates, mostly had mixed thoughts when regarding them. But they mostly didn't pay much mind to it.
It was not longer after the trials that Kaworu had decided that he should leave before another one of his siblings tries attacking, as to keep his part of the deal. Shinji and Rei felt it was only proper to say goodbye, Kaji was busy, and Misato didn't like being around the boy, so they were the only ones to visit him.
"Thank you for seeing me off," Kaworu said as he stood looking at the city. Kaworu had asked for somewhere outside the city, to which Shinji suggested the overlook Misato had shown him after his first time piloting unit one.
"It's not a problem," Shinji said nonchalantly.
"Yes, seeing as how you have helped us greatly, it is only right we at least see you before you leave" Rei agreed, her stomach had started to bulge slightly, not yet noticeable enough to see while she wore her clothes though.
"Still, its thoughtful of you to do so, especially seeing as how I did not make a great first impression" Kaworu replied, he held an arm, only now it was gloveless, revealing a gray mass in the palm that resemble a fetus, it had an eye which was looking around the scenery. It unnerved the couple, but they didn't say anything, not wanting to offend Kaworu, or his father.
"We did act rather hostile to you," Rei stated.
Kaworu just waved hishad, "It doesn't really matter anymore", He then looked back to the city.
"-Sigh- Now I will be able to reunite my family together" Kaworu said contented.
"Um yeah, sorry about, you know, killing some of your siblings" Shinji said as he rubbed the back of his head.
"Dont worry about it, they're not really dead anyways. You just destroyed their physical forms, they'll be there when I go to join them" He explained.
"O-oh, okay... they aren't going to want revenge, are they?" Shinji nervously asked.
Kaworu chuckled, "No, they won't want revenge, they don't really care for such things. They don't think the same as Lilums. Once father is with them, they have no reason to come back here… But I think I will return her, sometime soon. It's just that the Lilum world is so interesting, and has so much to do. So many things I can entertain myself with, and so many things to try. Lilum are so fascinating, how could I not come back?"
"Well, after all you've done to help us, I don't think anyone would mind. I wouldn't mind if you came and visited us" Shinji told the other boy, to which he smiled.
"Yes, I believe I will... though I suppose you two will be busy raising a little one now, won't you?" Kaworu gave a teasing smile, Shinji blushed just a little bit, while Rei just nodded.
Kaworu chuckled, then went quiet as he looked over the edge of the lookout.
"I'm not exactly an expert on parental relationships, but I think you two will be good parents," The pale boy said solemnly.
"I guess this is goodbye for now, I'll be seeing you, Shinji, Rei" Kaworu continued as he then proceeded to walk off the cliff.
Shinji thought he was about to fall of the edge and was about to call out, but the pale boy did not fall however. He was intsead floating.
He then started to ascend towards the sky, waving goodbye. . . with the severed arm, as he continued to rise, until he had disappeared past the cloud line.
Shinji just looked slightly confused as to what happened while his girlfriend said the first thing that came to her mind.
"That was odd"
With the loss of the higher ups, Misato had been promoted as acting commander while Nerv and the pilots of the evangelion units were put on standby until the newly dubbed 'Angel wars' were officially declared to be over.
Misato was at the Geofront with Asuka, wearing her usual work clothes and red jacket while her young roommate wore a yellow dress, when they saw the eva units being moved by groups of JSSDF soldiers.
"Hey! What are you trying to do with my unit two?!" Asuka had yelled when she saw them moving her beloved red eva.
"Major Katsuragi, Pilot Soryu," The soldier who was in charge acknowledge, offering a salute "Due to their no longer being a threat of anymore angel attacks, we have been ordered by the prime minister to remove all evangelion units from Nerv's custody"
"Huh?" Asuku had asked dumbfounded.
"All evangelion units are to be moved into storage to be sealed in bakelite indefinitely until further notice" He continued.
"WHAT!" Asuka screeched.
"We thank you for your contributions and service, but it is no longer required" He then walked away, as the other men continued to work on transporting the massive eva units.
"But… but…"
"Sorry Asuka, but it looks like you're out of a job" Misato said as she put a hand on the girl's shoulder.
The girl groaned.
"You didn't think you were gonna pilot unit two forever did you?" She asked.
The girl didn't answer.
"It's gonna be alright Asuka, I know it will"
"-sigh- I guess I'm going to have to go back to Germany now, huh?" The redhead questioned
"Not if you don't want to, I always have room at my home for you" Misato said, giving the girl a smile.
She blinked at her.
"But… what about my dad" Asuka asked, as she remembered her father in Germany.
"Asuka… I remember meeting your father... can you really say he would care too much if you stayed with me?" The purple haired woman asked.
She didn't say anything. Though she knew that her father had grown to not really care about her, eversince her mother's suicide. He was more focused on his wife, the one he had married less than a year after her mothers death.
"Asuka, I kind of want to wait to talk to you and Shinji about this… but well… how would you feel if I kind of... adopted you?" Misato asked, to which Asuka's eyes widened.
"Eh?!"
"I mean, I was pretty much your guy's guardian while you were living with me, so what if I just made it official?" Misato said.
"...That would be nice…" Asuka quietly said.
"Yeah!" Misato pumped her fist then wrapped an arm around Asuka and hugged her, making the girl flush, "I'll talk to Shinji about it too, though I guess he's not really going to be living in the apartment anymore"
"Why not?" Asuka asked curiously.
"Oh, well he's going to be living with Rei now since they're going to be having their baby," Misato told her, not realising until a second later that the girl still didn't know about that.
"WHAT!?" Asuka screamed as her face started matched her hair color.
"I uh, probably shouldn't have been the one to tell you that huh?" Misato sweatdropped, as Asuka had already run off. She immediately felt worried for Shinji.
"Eh... I'm sure Shinji will be alright... probably... maybe..." the purple haired woman said to herself, though she obviously doubted it.
Shinji and Rei were walking through one of the Geofronts fields hand in hand. Rei's stomach had started to show through her clothes, if only barely. They had switched to another doctor since Ritsuko had been imprisoned, but nonetheless they've found out that the baby is doing alright, and that it's going to be a girl.
They had also found out earlier that day that they would no longer be piloting the evangelions. They even learned that the U.N planned on imbursing them for their service. Something which was a huge relief to learn since their only source of income had just been removed.
Now they were just enjoying a stroll with one another, thinking of possible names for their child.
"What if we were to name her Yui, after your mother," Rei suggested.
"Eh? I don't know about Yui… I mean I get It would be to honor my mom, but… I don't know" Shinji shrugged, Rei hummed in thought.
"What about… Aiko?" She asked.
"That's a nice name, but… how about Megumi?" Shinji offered, Rei thought about it.
"Megumi… I like it" She said as she smiled at Shinji who let out a breath.
"I'm glad you do…" He said as he stopped walking, turned to look her in the eyes and pressed his lips forward.
"Shinji," Rei giggled when they pulled apart, he chuckled in response.
They were about to kiss again when they were interrupted by a shrill voice.
"BAKA!"
Shinji knew that voice anywhere, and more importantly, that that tone meant pain for him. He paled as fear etched his face. Even Rei looked concerned as she looked at her boyfriend.
"Shinji... I think you should run," She told him dead seriously. He didn't need to be told twice, as he ran as fast as his legs could carry him.
Rei stood and watched, a blur of red and yellow bolting passed her.
"BAKA! I'LL MAKE YOU WISH YOU WERE NEVER BORN!"
Rei just hoped and prayed that Shinji was fast enough to outrun the irate redhead.
-End-
Author's Note: And that was the ending, though not the last chapter, and lot happened rather quickly, and some characters were mostly introduced for plot convenience but this is what I wanted to end the story with. I also added finally Asuka in person rather than being mentioned, I just couldn't think of a place to put her until now. I have an epilogue planned so stick around for that if you want. I really hope that you have all liked the story, but I know that there will be some people who feel otherwise, and thats alright. I really wanted to make it for myself as I wanted to contribute to the ReiShin community. Thanks for reading this far, please review and tell me your feelings on the story, it will help me learn from any mistakes so I can try and get better.
