Taking the fairy's advice into consideration, Audrey packed far less than she normally would have for an out-of-kingdom trip. Reluctantly taking Mal's advice, the princess packed no dresses and limited herself to one bag. Considering most of her wardrobe were tight fitting, Audrey didn't have a choice when it came to packing her clothing. Surely it wouldn't be that big of an issue.
Right?
"So! A little birdie told me you were expelled from Auradon Prep and have been booted to the Isle of Leftovers. What do Sis and Philip have to say about it?"
Taking a deep breathe to calm her nerves and her anger, Audrey forced herself to keep folding her clothes so she wouldn't lash out at her aunt. With being the second and the youngest daughter of Queen Leah and the late King Stefan, her aunt looked almost identical to her mother. From her long blonde hair to her vibrant blue eyes, she could easily be mistaken for Aurora's younger self.
"I haven't been expelled, Ariana," Audrey corrected roughly, making sure to organize her bag by shirts on one side and pants on the other. "I'm just going to the Isle as a form of punishment for what I've been doing to the VKs. You need to be careful though. If they find out you were a part of what I've been doing—"
"As long as you don't say anything, I'll be fine," Ariana stubbornly claimed, carelessly laying on the bed next to the bag, so her niece would have to look at her. "Do you think you'll meet someone on the Isle that you'll end up having sex with?"
Scoffing at the brash suggestion, Audrey retorted, "You shouldn't assume that I would do such a thing while I am being punished."
"What else are you going to do there?" Ariana wondered sarcastically. "Might as well have some fun fucking a random VK. It would rub in King Ben's face that his punishment for you didn't work. How long will you be there?"
"Right now a month," Audrey replied as she placed her last outfit in the bag. "I'm hoping my 'good behavior' on the Isle will help me come home sooner. If it works, you'll see me in a week."
"A month is a long time," Ariana agreed, before teasing, "That may be enough time for you to have sex with all the boys in one school. I know I could sleep with at least five in a week if I try. Maybe that's how I'll become more popular than you by the time you return."
"Don't let your mother hear your plans," Audrey warned. "She nearly disowned me when I decided to break up with Chad because he wasn't my type. Whatever she does to you will be worse since she's just my grandmother."
"I'm not scared of her," Ariana boasted. "Mother gives me whatever I want became I'm the youngest."
"More like you get everything you want because Grammy spoils you like you are the first born, and is afraid you'll be cursed like my mother was," Audrey argued. Zipping up her bag, the princess turned to face her glaring aunt. "Ever since you were born, my mother has been cast to the side like a rabid dog. She may not be around much due to her royal duties, but at least I wasn't born to be her second chance to be a mother because of her husband's idiocy."
Biting her tongue at the insult pointed toward her late father, Ariana decided to change the subject by asking, "Are you going to wear any jewelry while on the Isle?"
"I'm leaving everything in my jewelry box and giving Lonnie the key to make sure no one takes anything while I'm gone."
"That's a good idea," Ariana praised, though she offhandedly retorted, "A bracelet or ring could easily be stolen by some guy while you're distracted by them fucking you."
"Get out," Audrey demanded. "I'll see you when I return home."
"Audrey!"
Suppressing the groan that wanted to come out at hearing his voice, Audrey reluctantly turned to face the teen, adjusting her bag on her shoulder in the process. "What do you need, Chad?" She questioned stiffly. "Ben won't like it if I show up late to meet Mal and Jay."
"It will be quick," Chad promised between pants of breath, having ran the distance to her. "I was wondering if we could get back together when you get back."
Sighing softly, Audrey shook her head in denial. "Chad, I'm sorry, but you are not my type. I told you this before: I don't like guys who only cares about their appearance or tries to instigate fights."
"That was only one time," Chad argued. "And that VK had it coming when he—"
"When he took your spot on the ROAR team?" Audrey finished with a curious eyebrow raise. "I watched that practice. Carlos is a better swordsman than you, but you just had to trip him on his way out, making him sprain his ankle. No one believed him when he accused you. You got mad and decided to throw the first punch."
"He only had a black eye for a week—"
"But he was given detention for a month for something he didn't do," Audrey retorted. "If I had said something—"
"Why didn't you?" Chad interrogated quite snidely. "You could have told the truth and saved him from being punished. You didn't because you hate the VK's just as much as I do."
Clenching her jaw in aggravation, Audrey noted, "Another thing that I'm not interested in: I don't like guys who make assumptions about me, whether they are true or not true. In this case, you don't need to know. Excuse me—"
"Wait," Chad insisted as though he was being sincere. "I'm sorry, okay? Let's just forget this conversation ever happened. Will you go back out with me?"
With an irritated huff, Audrey claimed, "I'll decided when I come back. Goodbye, Chad Charming."
Brooding for most of the way to the main entrance, Audrey couldn't help the surprise look on her face when she realized who Mal was speaking to.
"Mother?" Audrey greeted with a confused tone, setting her bag next to the royal limousine, which Jay took to place in the trunk. "What are you doing here? Are you convincing them this punishment isn't such a great idea?"
"The opposite, I'm afraid," Aurora denied with a soft comforting smile that would make anyone feel better. "I was just commending my sister about her and her fiance's plan for you. I think you will enjoy life on the Isle, just like how I enjoyed my limited time on the Moors."
"You spending time with magical creatures and someone you consider to be your mother is not the same as me spending time with prisoners who can't use magic because of the enchanted barrier," Audrey snapped haughtily. "Was there anything else you needed?"
"I wanted to give you something," Aurora claimed. Placing a hand in her sweater pocket, the queen pulled out a necklace with a flower charm. In that charm was a blue gem that somewhat resembled an ember. "My godfather gave this to me right after my sixteenth birthday. He vowed that with this necklace, no harm would come to me. Now—"
"I appreciate the gesture, Mother, but I don't want to take it to the Isle," Audrey denied stiffly. "I am not taking any kind of jewelry on the Isle, so it doesn't break or get stolen. I know I would feel terrible if anything were to happen to it, especially since it means so much to you."
"Alright . . ." Aurora agreed, sadly placing the necklace back in her pocket.
"She'll be alright, Beasty," Mal reassured confidently. "Jay and I will be watching her the entire time she's at school. She will be staying with some trusted friends, who will watch her in the morning and the evenings. If it makes you feel any better, I can have Dad check on her every couple days and send you an update if you would like."
"I don't need some god watching over me like I am a damsel," Audrey spat in aggravation. "Let's get this over with so I can enjoy what I have left of senior year."
Nodding softly, Aurora mumbled, "I'll see you soon, Darling." Waiting until the princess was in the vehicle and had slammed the door shut, the queen adverted her attention to the purple-haired fairy with a begging look on her voice. "Please take good care of my daughter, Mali."
"I promise, Beasty," Mal vowed. "No harm will come to her."
The ride to the Isle of the Lost was quiet for the first part. When they crossed over the Auradon side of the magic bridge was when they finally spoke to one another.
"Like I told your mother, Jay and I will take turns watching over you during the school day," Mal reiterated to the princess. "You will be staying in two places on the Isle since you will be going to both schools. The first place will be Lady Tremaine's mansion with her grandson and his girlfriend. They will be the ones to watch you in the evenings and will walk you to the first school—Dragon Hall—in the morning. If we think you can handle yourself, starting the third week of the punishment, you'll stay by yourself in the Core Four's old hideout on the other side of the Isle, which is where the other school—Serpent Prep—is located. We thought two weeks at each place would be the best way to break up your time on the Isle."
"We won't be on the Isle on Fridays," Jay added, keeping his gaze on the magic road that could disappear at any moment. "We made a deal with our teachers and Fairy Godmother that we would use that day to catch up on any work that we missed."
"We are hopeful that after a couple days you will fit in and we won't need to watch over you every second of the day," Mal continued, hoping the conversation would ease the princess's worries. "We would still be around just in case."
Sighing softly, Audrey wondered in a small, worried tone, "Will I survive here? I know you say you'll watch over me, but I've heard some rumors about what happened to you guys while you lived there. Will any of that stuff happen to me?"
"Of course not!" Mal reassured kindly. Taking the princess's hands in hers, the fairy confidently swore, "I promise, you will not get hurt while you are on the Isle of the Lost."
But just like rules, all promises are meant to be broken.
