"Breathe." Melinda calmly spoke. "Relax, you're a bit too tense."
"Sorry, mother." Daisy exhaled as she stood in a tai chi stance. She had become extremely excited about the trip to The Hub; so excited that she woke up extremely early. With nothing to do, she snuck into her parents' room and woke her mother. This lead to them bonding over tai chi once more. "I don't know how you make it look so easy."
"Comes with practice."
Melinda's laugh caused a smile to appear on the young girl's face. There was something about the way her mother's laugh made her feel. "I can't exactly promise to be an early bird just to practice Tai Chi."
"Oh, I know already." Again, a laugh sprouted from Melinda. "I've tried to get you into this before."
"Is that why you settled for teaching me martial arts?"
"You seemed more excited to learn how to throw a punch." She smirked. "Who was I to stand in your way?"
The Night Terrors and all the negative aftermath that accompanied it came frequently since they resurfaced, however, Daisy had been getting a handle on her anxiety attacks to the point where someone other than Melinda could help. At that point the only other person was Bobbi but it showed improvement.
With the way the symptoms fed off of Daisy's outlook, Melinda had been spending more time with her doing things like Movie Night, Parental Pizza dates, and occasionally Tai Chi.
"You never told me if you liked the Fitbit I got you."
"It's great, mom." Daisy smiled. "It works like a charm and it records my heart rate. Pretty sure it also tells you how active I am during the day."
"That's exactly why I got you it."
"Dad would have probably found some antique that could do the same thing." She laughed which made Melinda burst out into laughter.
"Phil does love his antiques."
"What? I'm a sentimental guy." Phil remarked as he stepped into the room. "You don't like the fact that I have stuff that are retro limited edition?"
"How long were you there?" Daisy gasped.
"Long enough." He replied. "I'm surprised to see you up and at it so early. Morning isn't usually your thing."
"Well, seeing that we're going to The Hub? I got really excited." She beamed. "It's like Christmas but in July."
Phil smiled at seeing how happy his daughter was. Every time she spoke of The Hub trip since he suggested it she was glowing. This joy was enough to make him melt which everyone else would pick up on since he wore his heart on his sleeve. "I'll get started on breakfast. Anything you'd like?"
"Can I have bacon and french toast?" She looked up at him. "With some eggs?"
"Totally. Although, I wonder why you didn't say pancakes."
"Can't have them all the time."
"Ain't that the truth." Melinda chimed in. "Bobbi probably wants Cap'n Crunch cereal and then there is Jemma."
"The real mystery is lunch." Daisy voiced.
This wasn't surprising to Melinda. She knew just how important food was to Daisy. "You haven't even had breakfast as yet and you're still thinking about lunch. I wonder who you got that from."
"Can't it be unique to me?" Daisy smiled proudly at her mother. "Everyone has their own thing. Bobbi's the super cool geek, Jemma has her intelligence, I'm pretty sure you're a ninja, dad is like Obi-Wan and I like to think that I got the food thing down."
"I'm like Obi-Wan? You mean awesomely cool?"
"I meant you're like the negotiator."
"Ouch." Melinda laughed. "Thought she was going to say that you're cool? That's funny."
"Laugh it up." Phil smiled as he walked to the kitchen.
After everyone was ready to go, they got in the SUV and departed for The Hub.
At the Hub
"Did you know S.H.I.E.L.D wasn't always S.H.I.E.L.D?" Daisy beamed as she asked Bobbi another question.
"Yes I know that." She laughed. "It was once known as the S.S.R and was lead by Peggy Carter."
"Did Jemma tell you all of that? She is always reciting that."
Phil got out of the SUV and locked it. "Alright girls, it's time. Best behaviour and no wandering off."
"That goes doubly for you, Daisy." Melinda added.
"Why are you singling me out?" She pouted and folded her arms
"You're not one to like rules and being watched over."
"Touché, but this is the hub, mom!" She replied as they walked over to the front desk.
At the desk sat an agent who was on his phone. He hadn't noticed the Coulson family since he was preoccupied with the app he was on. A Game-Over tone emitted from the device and he groaned. "And I was close to passing that level too!" He still hadn't looked up until Phil cleared his throat. "Ah! Agent Coulson!" He hopped up and smiled. "Agent Coulson, we've been expecting you."
"Agent Keonig, it's a pleasure."
The man stood up and walked up to Phil excited. "It's an honor to meet you sir." He extended his hand out and shook Phil's hand. "I'll hand you your lanyard! Usually they're distributed on a case by case basis but today, you all get day pass lanyards."
"Thank you, Billy." Melinda nodded as she reached for the lanyard.
"I'm Sam; Billy is the shorter one." He chuckled as he handed her, Daisy, Bobbi and Jemma their lanyards.
"I will keep that in mind."
"Right this way!" He lead the group to the main atrium of the Hub. "Feel free to check out all the cool places. Enjoy."
The first place in the tour was Operations. They stood in the hallway that led to planning rooms and debriefing rooms. The hallway had a few agents who were chatting and moving. When they got to the end of the corridor, Phil opened the door and walked into the room. "This is the main Operations room where we plan and watch the progress of our missions."
"Wow!" Daisy smiled. "Look at how big that screen is."
"I'm sure it's big enough to amaze you." A voice came from behind them.
Spinning on her heel, she turned around and gasped. "You! What are you doing here?"
"I work here. The principal job is my cover."
"You were a shield agent all this time?" She asked in disbelief as her principal, Victoria Hand, stood before her.
"How'd you think Barbara was able to become a student the same day she showed up? That's quite a long process but I made it happen in less time." She folded her arms. "As a principal, I get to make the necessary changes of the school. The security system there is shield tech. We also have other special things in place for the school."
"You watched me get bullied!"
"A means to an end. That's not to say we're using you but that little group you're so concerned about, The Rising Tide? We've been able to disrupt them. I also have been looking into that Raina girl."
"Why?" Daisy folded her arms. "She hasn't done anything!"
"Daisy, Hand is just doing her job. She's there to scope out potential agents, potential enemies and the normal people." Melinda stepped in. "Keeping a facade that we don't know the true her is important for her to do her job."
"Exactly." Victoria nodded. "I've had a team start looking into something called Project Centipede. One of The Rising Tide kids said something about that to Raina and she reacted to that. When we know what it is, I'll do what is necessary."
"Okay, Principal Hand! Who else is shield at the school? Mr. Garner?"
"That's classified." She replied. "Even now, you know too much."
"At least tell me one thing. What does any of this have to do with Grant Ward?"
"Grant is my intern. He's preparing to become apart of Big Brother."
"Big Brother?"
"I got this one." Phil stepped in with a smile. "Big Brother is a shield program set up for new agents and students of Shield Academy. It was set up by Agent Maria Hill herself."
"Oh."
"Well, I spent enough time entertaining you. I got a mission to go plan." Victoria folded her arms. "Would be nice to have you present Coulson. You're supposed to be the best when it comes to these types of ops. It's level 7 so, You're more than welcomed to join as well, Melinda."
"Actually, I have something important to do up in my office. I'll catch you guys later. Bobbi, come with me." Melinda walked out of the room with Bobbi following her.
"I think I'm going to head to The Science Department." Jemma smiled. "I believe I should have clearance to visit." Leaving Daisy with their father and Hand, Jemma walked over to the Science Department, believing that she was going to run into one of the head scientists. If that happened, she would be able to share her thoughts and get some feedback.
"I'm going to get an Agent to take you through the Communications wing." Phil smiled.
"Is that your way of saying I can't come with?" Daisy looked up at him.
"Pretty much. I won't be too long with helping Hand. If you need Jemma, you know where she is and your mom and Bobbi shouldn't take very long."
"Can you at least tell me who you're assigning me to?"
The agent stood before Daisy and smiled. "Daisy Skylar Coulson. Do you remember me?"
"Agent Sitwell; still as bald as the last time." She chuckled. "I'm joking, I'm joking."
Sitwell sighed and adjusted his glasses. "Very funny. Anyway, I'm supposed to be showing you around Communications."
"Can we go to the Science Department instead?"
"We can go there after Communications." He sighed. "Right this way." Sitwell escorted a bored Daisy over to the Communications department. The young teen didn't want to know all the front end workings of Communications, she wanted to get her hands on some real S.H.I.E.L.D. tech. She wanted to see what she could do with it as she was pretty good with doing stuff on her computer.
While Daisy was stuck with Jasper Sitwell, Melinda took Bobbi to an office space that wasn't being used. It had some files belonging to Agent Melinda May. When Melinda got married to Phil, a lot changed and in some instances using her last name. Even so, while at shield, they found it extremely hard to both go by Agent Coulson so Melinda found herself running some of her operations under Agent Melinda May.
"Agent Melinda May." Bobbi smiled as she read the name on the file. "It suits you."
"Thanks, Bob." Melinda smiled before leaning on the desk. "Now, onto why I brought you here. You're eligible to become an intern here, at S.H.I.E.L.D. It would help especially if you're still planning on going into the academy. It may even shave off a few years."
"An internship? Here at S.H.I.E.L.D? You think I should take an internship?" Her jaw was agape.
"Yes, Bob. I think you should and if you do, I will be the one you'll be working under. That also means you won't get much special treatment and I will work you hard."
"I would expect as much, Aunt Melinda." She smiled. "I will take the internship with you."
"Good, from now on, when you're here or with me I am Agent May."
