Chapter 3

Elena was finally done with most of her work for the week. Thankfully Aunt Jenna was in town, Jeremy's favourite adult around so he was spending time with her and not chugging alcohol somewhere in a stupid party. It meant it was the perfect night for spending some much needed time with her girls. Obviously shopping for tomorrow.

They were at the mall, trying on dresses.

Elena had picked out a floral dress to try on considering the event was day time and not that extravagant.

"It's way too cutesy and not sexy enough." Bonnie said looking at the loose dress.

Elena held up the dress to herself in the mirror, "I just want to relax."

"You're literally going to sell yourself for a day so at least look pretty." Caroline screeched. "At least my date is something I would choose."

Bonnie put her hand on her hip as Elena raised a brow, "How is that?"

She blushed slightly, "Well, I got a peek at the question form and let's just say I texted my answers to Stefan."

Elena scrunched her face, "Ughh, don't talk about those people, we don't want to conjure up his pervert brother again."

Bonnie picked out a mustard yellow dress, looking it up and down, "You know he's right, he's on your mind all the time."

Elena churned her teeth in frustration, "This is coming from a place of pure hate."

She sat down on the chair near the try room, her phone had been constantly buzzing because Matt had been calling her all day long. He had came to his senses by Wednesday when she didn't talk to him.

Honestly, Matt was exhausting her. A part of her knew she felt something for him because he had always been the guy for her. If they break up then what about all the memories, he was her first kiss, her first date ever.

She then settled on a pear green dress that Caroline said gave her some shape. It had a halter neck with a diamond outline. It was beautiful, simple and classy. Once they got some heels, they headed to the parking lot.

Elena gasped when she saw Matt near her car. He had used lovely peach and white orchids to write the letter 'I am Sorry' in front of her car.

"Matt." She looked back at Caroline and Bonnie who were showing a range of emotions from taken back by the big gesture to creeped out.

He stepped forward to hold her hands, and got down on his knees, Elena was struggling to get any words out, "What are you doing?"

"Apologizing." He swallowed thick as he looked up at her, "I- I admit, I was insecure because you know- I sometimes feel like I am not as smart as you, not as enthusiastic about things. And because I lack there I often take it out on you without realizing it."

He pressed his lips against her hands in a small kiss. "But this is the last of it. I have always loved you, but now I'll always trust you too."

Elena was feeling cold and hot at the same time. Was she suppose to say no to the only guy she liked because of her work? He loved her, he just said he loved her.

"I am so sorry." He murmured, "I'll never do that again."

His shiny light blue eyes came in handy to convince her and Elena found herself not finding anything wrong with forgiving Matt. "Okay, get up now. I forgive you Matty." She said lovingly. He smiled from ear to ear as he stood up and pulled her into his arms.

..

It was Saturday, Elena had spent a good two hours on proper pampering from showering, waxing to hair and make-up. Though it didn't matter to her but she had to look her best. Her nails were polished an orange color to contrast her dress, her hair were wavy and flowing down her back in silky brown soft curls. The best thing was that she didn't have to go on a date with some random boy now that Matt and her made up. She took a copy of the questions from Caroline and sent it to him with her own answers.

She was ready for today. When she reached the Lockwood Gardens, she spotted Matt at the venue in a brown suit, looking his charming self. She walked up to him with a grin, "You've come prepared. "

"Exactly." He pulled her by her hand and she giggled when she ended up against his chest as he pressed kisses to her neck like a lovesick pup. She still couldn't get over how he said he loved her. But did she love him? That's when he said something else that completely shocked her, "Happy anniversary."

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

Did she forgot their anniversary? He had won a football game and then asked her to be his girlfriend in front of everyone last year. She was keeping track of the date till July and then she got so busy. If she remembered correctly, she had put a watch on hold for him.

Pulling away from his embrace , she swallowed thick , "You remembered?"

"Of course I did! It's the best day of my life, right after Vikki moving out." He snorted, "But isn't this weirdly romantic that I get to win you again."

She was clutching his hands so tight, he winced, Elena backed away, "Oh sorry, I am just so nervous."

"Don't be. I have picked out the same restaurant from our first date, then we go to-" his plan was making her so guilty, she stopped him, "Wait, Bonnie is calling me. I'll be back babe." She gave him a quick kiss before going to find Bonnie and Caroline.

She squinted her eyes when she saw her brother talking to Bonnie. They were almost arguing. She heard them when she walked closer.

"You can't just put yourself out there for all the guys in town!" Jeremy said angrily.

Bonnie sounded pissed, "I'll do what I want, I've told you to back off."

"Well what about the other night- you have feelings for me." Jeremy stated a but too loud and Elena was shocked, slightly disgusted that her fourteen year old brother was crushing on her best friend. Then again Jeremy was nothing like the boys his age.

"I helped you get into bed. And then you begged me to cuddle with you. If that's what feelings are then you might have a very twisted relationship with your mother." Bonnie said pushing at his chest.

He whined in pure teenager fashion, "Don't make me puke. What's it going to take for you to actually admit you like me?"

Bonnie sighed and looked around, Elena gasped and hid behind a tree so she wouldn't be spotted. Her friend turned back to Jeremy and took a paper out of her bag, "Memorize this, win me. Take me home and I'll let you stay for one movie."

Jeremy instantly demanded, "Three. And you'll let me kiss you."

She scrunched up her face, "One and I'll let you hold my hand."

Jeremy negotiated again, "Two, and one kiss."

Bonnie bit out, "Two and we can cuddle. No kiss."

Jeremy huffed in surrender, "Fine. But I'll tell on you if you refused to go through with it."

She rolled her eyes as she walked away, "And he says he's mature enough to date me."

Elena shook her head at the exchange, what in the upside down was going on here.

"Hello detective." She heard Damon's familiar voice behind her and jumped in surprise, "Ah!" she turned around and glared at him, "What are you doing here."

Damon held up his white paddle, "Here to win a date."

"This is getting sad." She said feigning a pout.

"It's going to get so much worse when I win you." He chuckled.

Elena laughed, she walked closer and rose on her heels so she could whisper in his ear, "Matt has all my answers already. So there is no way you would win."

His expressions didn't change, he shrugged, "So Matt cheated to get to the screening process, I already know you. A to Z. I've even filled the question form and submitted it." He said dangling the paddle, "That's why they gave me this."

Elena crossed her arms in front of her chest, "You're being cocky."

"With good reason." He said as he leaned against the tree.

Elena picked out the crumbled note with her answers from her bag, she hadn't filled out her form yet, but she knew her answers. If Damon knew her well, he would know them too, wouldn't he?

"How would you spend your time with your ideal partner ?" Elena read from the question form.

Damon smirked as he looked her up and down, "You want to learn something all the time, so I guess if we aren't at home, we are outside in some stupid dance class."

She took a deep breath because for a while now she had wanted to learn a different genre of dancing. And she did put it down in her answers to Matt.

"Our first date is-" she started nervously.

Damon interrupted, "Museum of Fine Arts in Richmond. Then long drive back home. Star gazing maybe if its late on the way back."

Elena wanted to rip her hair out, did he know everything? "Your favourite fragrance."

He narrowed his eyes and Elena saw victory before he said, "Jasmine."

"Fuck you." She said pushing the paper back into her bag, "Where did you find out?"

He laughed at her 'out of breath' reaction, "You say it like it's hard." He pushed away from the tree, right into her personal space, slightly more intimidating than before, "You think you're so special, there is no such thing, I know girls like you- snobby little princesses who think they are better than everyone else. Well guess what, you're the most predictable girl I've ever seen."

Elena felt like it was a slap to her ego, she stood firmer, she would never go on a date with him, "Then why are you so obsessed with me? Even if you do take me on a date, which you won't- I will never even look at you."

His eyes widened comically, "We'll see about that." She cursed under her breath as she left him standing there to go find Matt.

He was nowhere around and Elena was getting impatient, she had to change her answers to the complete opposite. Damon had already submitted his form and Elena had to submit hers because Mrs. Lockwood was calling her.

"Elena, have you filled a form yet?" Mrs. Fell asked when she was busy calling Matt.

Elena shook her head, "I am just- waiting for someone."

"Come on , the bid starts in thirty minutes, we have to screen out the swarm of boys who want to date you." Mrs. Fell dragged her to the stage, Elena quickly filled the forms with absolute bizarre answers.

Half of them were more like what complete brainless girls would want. The kind of girls Damon dated. Urghh, she shuddered as she submitted her form. Though Matt wouldn't take her now, at least it won't be Damon.

He was sitting in the audience among other boys. Elena groaned when she saw Matt, put his filled card in the 'Elena Box' and sit down in the audience, waving at her. Elena cringed. Matt would be so mad that she changed her answers, if only he had checked his phone for Elena's text messages.

She was standing with Caroline and Bonnie. They were all talking about their answers and she felt somewhat annoyed that she ended up being the one who was going to be on a random date with someone.

The screening started and sure enough, half the sleaze balls in town were matching her form, except Matt.

He looked confused and Elena just wanted to rush to him and give him a hug.

Then the names were being announced, sure enough Caroline matched with Stefan and four boys and Bonnie matched with Jeremy and two boys as well. They had made their answers extremely specific to get less matches. Elena imagined their answers would have been buck wild to get so many little matches but then it was her turn and she had matched with seventeen boys.

Yup.

Matt was redder than a tomato when the names were being announced, "Andy Brown, Dylan Martin, Bruce Davies, Aaron Eisenberg , Damon Salvatore-"

Elena's body stopped functioning when she heard the name, she spotted Damon grinning in a pure evil manner.

Then she saw Matt, he looked broken and betrayed.

She couldn't even leave the stage until the bidding was over, surely Damon would win, he had more money then all of the boys at school combined.

Elena's face turned white as she faced Caroline. "He is going to win."

"Calm down we don't know that yet, didn't you give Matt the answers?" Caroline asked whispering.

"Yeah but Damon knew all my answers so I changed them but- I don't understand this." She gestured towards Damon who was already waving his paddle at her wickedly.

The announcements started rolling in, "And the highest bid for a date with the beautiful and talented Bonnie Bennett is submitted by our very own Jeremy Gilbert."

Elena grabbed Bonnie's arm as she leaned next to whisper to her, "Where did Jeremy get the money?"

"His piggy bank?" Bonnie said coldly. Elena hissed leaving her on her own, she would have to deal with this later. One by one the girls were being auctioned for dates.

She looked over at the audience and took a big breath in as she stepped forward for her turn.

Ivan, her chemistry lab partner was pretty rich as well. He put the first bid on her, then came Matt's friend Liam from the football team.

Matt looked like he was about to cry due to helplessness.

Then Damon washed them off easily with a high bid, "1000."

"Can we go higher than a 1000 for Elena?"

Aaron called loudly, "4000" over-confident that no one would out-bit such a high price.

"Amazing. This is our highest bid today." Mrs. Lockwood cheered.

"No it isn't, 8000." Damon called.

Elena looked at Aaron as if asking him to save her, he hesitated, "8500"

Damon had the poor guy sweating bullets, he cooly put his paddle up, eyeing Elena in his usual sinister way, she looked away as he called what would be the last bid, "10,000"

She knew, he knew, everyone knew poor Aaron couldn't go higher than his last bid.

1,2- 3.

And his bid won.

Elena hung her head as she stepped back, at least she earned the highest among all the girls. When she saw Matt getting up and leaving, Elena hurriedly took the three stairs down and went after him, the bid for Caroline was in progress.

"Matt, Please." She ran to stop him. She held his hands, "I tried to find you."

Matt narrowed his eyes at her, "Are you kidding me? He won! What about all this?" he said throwing a rolled piece of answers she had wrote for him the previous night. "I changed them because he knew all of them. And I texted you about it and called you too but-"

"But I was too busy getting us my Dad's car for tonight's anniversary date." He chuckled humorlessly.

"Matt, no, I am sorry. No part of me wants to even be near him." She pleaded

"That's weird." Damon said interrupting them as he showed up, now facing Matt beside Elena, "Because you gave me all these answers earlier."

"Shut up." Elena gritted her teeth, she could tell Matt was believing him.

He put his arm around Elena, "You can stop pretending now, Elena. The jock is a bit of an idiot but this one is even a no-brainer for him.

Elena flinched feeling his arm around her, "Get away from me."

He whispered loudly, "Seriously this is the most elaborate and embarrassing break up I've ever seen."

Matt stepped back disgusted, "Okay, you know what. I am not going to stand here and watch you choose this asshole and that too on our anniversary."

Before Elena could protest, he left her there. Damon snickered, "Hooof, so easy."

Elena clenched her teeth as he whispered, his lips touching the shell of her ear, "I would have won either way, but I loved watching him helpless and all squirmy as he saw me win you."

"You are a psychopath."

She was going to push him but he held both of her arms in his tight grip, pulling her close to his chest, "I didn't even need the government to make you go out with me."

She tried to pull away from him but all her efforts were fruitless. "I hate you." She bit out each word.

"I don't care." He said unaffected, "You're going on this date and everyone is going to see it."

She shook her head at him, "You're such a fucking loser." When his grip loosened slightly, she stepped with her high heel on his foot, he hissed stepping back and she got out of his grip, "Matt!"

She went after her boyfriend, Damon bit the inside of his cheek when he saw her catch up to him, she held him by his arms, one of her hand went to cup his face as she pressed her lips to him as hard as she could.

Matt resisted a good few seconds before giving into her. Damon flinched in disgust as he turned around, why was it bothering him so much? It's like he didn't win anything. He indeed did feel like a complete loser.

When he looked back and saw them still, kissing like it was more important than breathing, a fire blazed inside him. No way was he going to let the jock take Elena Gilbert. She would give in to him. She would love him. And when she falls in love that's when he would dump her. Elena will remember him every time she feels something for anyone. His memory would torture her.

..

Elena was unable to do anything all day, the more she dreaded Sunday, the quicker it came. Elena had somehow convinced Matt that Damon was just being a dick trying to play them like puppets for his fun. She was going to make this date hell for him, that was for sure.

Bonnie was going on a date with his brother and Caroline was going on a date with Tyler, in a surprising turn of events, he out bid Stefan. She was very upset about it and had called Elena a bunch of times about it.

Elena wore some jeans and a gold color shirt with a jacket. Making no effort to get ready for Damon. He wanted to play, well she would drive him to insanity today.

Damon was actually embarrassing her, he had set a social media counter for their 'date' called "EG DS" almost the whole school was keeping up with it.

Elena checked her laptop for the count down, according to it, he was fifteen minutes late.

She kicked off her heels and turned the music on her laptop high, she picked up her notes but her mind was occupied with ways she could torture him.

When she looked at the clock, she groaned and realized, he was an hour late.

Elena groaned shutting the timer off and getting out of her heels, she wiped all her makeup, and changed into sweat pants. When she settled in bed, the bell rang. Since she was alone at home, she did have to go see who it was and when she went downstairs, her anger flared up.

Her date finally showed up.

She opened the door, "Go away!"

"What in the scare crow-" he blurted seeing her appearance. She was wearing her sweatpants, no trace of make up on her face and her hair were tied up on her head in a bun, she pushed at his chest when he tried to come in, "You said six, it's seven thirty so –"

"So what I paid for you, I'll come when I want." He said coming inside anyway. Elena bit her lip, "Then wait five minutes, I gotta go get ready."

Before she could race upstairs, he held her wrist, "No-no I am not waiting for five minutes, I know what five minutes mean for you women. So you better come with like this."

"What? I am not going out this way." She said looking over her shoulder.

"Well it's not your choice is it?" he said pulling her back down. She palmed her head, Damon picked up some shoes from the shelf, her running shoes. "Come on, let's go."

She groaned as she wore them, Damon was very ready as compared to her- wearing a grey Button up and jeans with a jacket. His hair looked as dark as the night. He obviously was an attractive guy and she didn't want to be seen with him, looking the way she was.

"Checking me out?" he asked wiggling his brows, she rolled her eyes and stood up to follow him outside. "Where are we going?"

"I have reservations but after that I want to take you some place for something."

How vague.

Elena turned to him and sighed, "I am fine with everything as long as you keep your pervy hands to yourself."

Damon started the car before scanning her appearance once again, making it obvious that she wasn't looking her best self, "I think I'll manage."

She looked out of the window when the car started, she knew her not dressing up was just an icing on the cake for him. He wanted to publicly embarrass her. She looked down at her cropped grey jacket, she took it off, opened her hair and ran her hands through it, reaching into her pockets, she took out some clear gloss she left in there a while back and put it on her lips. Her black shirt was at least form fitting and she looked less baggy and more of a off-duty model this way.

When he saw her fixing her hair in the mirror, he huffed, "Can you stop? I was kidding, you don't look bad, okay?"

She ignored him. Pinching her cheeks for some color.

He shook his head, "Wear your jacket, its cold out."

"If you don't shut up, I am going to punch your throat." She warned.

He made a hmmph sound and the next thing she knew, he floored the cat, turning the wheel so quick, she screamed as she hit the side before landing in his lap with the force. "Punch me now." He challenged.

She pushed her hands against his thighs, "Argh!"

"Hey you touched me." He feigned an upset tone,

"You are a caveman!" she exclaimed getting back in her seat, fixing her hair.

"Wear your jacket." He asked her again, but it sounded like an order. "No!"

"Fine, freeze, what do I care?" He barked when they reached the restaurant. When they got out of the car, Elena immediately felt the chilly air against her upper body but she rather die than admit he was right.

Go figure, he had chosen the most expensive restaurant in town. How was he affording it again?

He didn't open any doors for her like Matt did. He didn't pull the chair out for her.

She sat down, looking around a bit insecure that she wasn't looking her best the first time here. Matt always said he would take her here on their graduation night.

He sat down in front of her, "The steak is very good here."

"I am ordering fish." She objected his choice even though she could really go for a steak.

He shrugged nonchalantly. "Okay."

When they put in their order, Elena took out her phone, ignoring him obviously. She texted Matt, Bonnie and even made shopping plans with Aunt Jenna.

He reached over the table and pressed her hand against the table "Keep it down. It's awfully rude."

"As rude as you knocking my ribs out with that move you pulled in the car?" she said with a fake smile. He coughed out a laugh, "Okay fine- I am sorry. I just didn't want you to get cold. Aren't you on the debate team, isn't that next week?"

She was surprised that he knew that , so he was being nice. She couldn't even swallow that one. "And then there is a game on Friday. So you probably have to cheer."

She looked away, feeling a bit embarrassed, "You could have just said that, you didn't have to knock me like that."

Then it got awkward, Elena was so uncomfortable that it made him nervous. He never got nervous! He didn't normally go on "dates" to 'get' girls.

Damon knocked on the table getting her attention, "You look fine."

"I look unrecognizable." She spat, he chuckled, "Elena, you look just like you looked at Tyler's pool party. You didn't have anything on your face that day. I still hit on you." He crowed as if it were a badge of honor.

She palmed her face, "Yes but I had my hair done, and I had that super pretty bathing suit on."

"If my opinion matters-"

"It doesn't. "

He let out an exhausted sigh, "You shouldn't be worried, you're the prettiest one here so don't make a big deal about it."

"You're lying." She accused as she poured herself some water.

She put her phone down and pursed her lips, looking at him, then she would look around, "You shouldn't have told Matt what you did. He is so sensitive."

"Or maybe he doesn't trust you." Damon said only slightly bitter. Elena shook her head, "Why would he not trust me?"

"Because he might be the dumbest guy on earth but he knows the obvious." Damon said with a raised brow.

She narrowed her eyes as Damon added, "He is a small town guy, he dreams small, you dream of the world, you want and get everything you set your eyes on. You're smarter, sharper, far more attractive- way over his league. Should I continue with the list."

She looked down at her lap, Matt had just texted her how she should tell him everything that happens.

"Even if it were all true. Matt and I make sense." She said a bit defensively. He laughed, "Only because you force yourself and make sense of it."

When the food arrived, Elena looked at her colorless dish and sat back in exhaustion. Damon saw her picking up the fork and just poking her food with it. He stood up, "Come on."

She looked up confused as he got his wallet out and put some money on the table, "We're out of here."

She frowned as she got up and followed him out, instead of heading for the car, he held her hand and took her across the street.

"The grocery store?" she asked confused as he lead them inside. Getting a small basket, he begin putting in cupcakes, chips, candy, soda cans.

When they got out of there , they got in the car, "What's going on?"

"Don't worry, I am not going to kill you." He started driving in that god awful fast speed.

She was holding on for her life despite her seat belt. She noticed they were going towards the hills near the spring. Elena was stealing a few looks while pretending to enjoy the song on the radio. She was hungry and tired, plus she wasn't ready.

When the car stopped, Damon rolled the hood back, Elena gasped as she saw the sky full of stars above, her eyes instantly went back to his face and he gave her a smug grin, "I got the Stargazing right."

Elena nodded her head, "Wow. Its- its beautiful here." Though she would often read by the window at night, the sky never looked this close and crowded with luminous stars.

"I think- it's very peaceful and- feels like I am being painted on a canvas by an amazing artist." She explained her idea of it as she looked up at the dark sky again.

Damon put the bags of food between them, "You know I was hell bent on making it the worst date of your life. Orchestra singing at the table kind of bad."

Elena opened up a candy pack with widened eyes, "That's so weird! I was thinking about that too. The best I could come up with was- some how announcing to the restaurant that you had Tuberculosis and then you'd be escorted out. Quarantined for a while, maybe they'd find an STD."

She suppressed her smile when she heard him laugh, he shook his head, leaning back on the head rest as he looked up the sky, Elena tore open a pack of chips, making shapes in the sky, songs filled the silence between them as they ate and enjoyed the scenery.

"Sometimes it feels like if I reach for one of them, I'll get them." She sighed.

"And why do you want a burning ball in your palm?" he taunted.

She turned her face towards him, "You find no romance in nature?" he shrugged, "Its just trees."

Elena laughed at him, he feigned being offended, she crunched down on some chips, "Its not just trees, look around- the wind has never been cooler. The sky is made of lights- its undiscovered in a million ways, and it makes me feel like I can do anything. Get anything I want."

"What do you want?" he asked reaching for the chips too, she let him take some. "I don't know, I want to be known for something. To be alive forever in some way, like the stars, you know?"

Damon had never seen someone so- full of life. So bipolar in her expressions. Like she didn't hate his guts a few minutes ago.

Maybe he envied her for being so aspirational.

He snickered, "You are something else."

Elena bit her lip as she wrapped her own arms around herself for some warmth, her voice was hardly above a whisper, "You said I was predictable. Nothing special."

He stopped eating his chips and put them at his side, "I wanted to get in your head."

"You did." She chuckled humorlessly as she looked up at the stars again, "I mean- I don't know why I always want to prove myself. If I weren't so hell bent on it, I might be on a date with Matt."

Damon's demeanor changed to his tough cold self for even mentioning Matt. Elena licked her lips as she waited for him to say something.

"You act like you both are destined to end up and everyone else is a hurdle in your way. No high-school couples work. You want to the know the truth. It's not that serious." He grumbled.

She was quick to defend herself, "Not everyone is like you, neither is every relationship doomed to an end."

"Oh really? Tell me how Ken doll is the perfect guy?" What he really wanted to ask was how was Matt better than him?

Elena looked out the other side, not wanting to look at him, "We've known each other our whole lives."

She looked over her shoulder as she started her list, "He opens all doors for me, he pulls out every chair. He always shows up on time when we have to go out." Clearly telling him what he did wrong today.

"He is the sweetest guy I know- we're even saving ourselves for each other."

Damon was really about to puke, was she describing a boyfriend or a gay best friend. "That is the most- nauseating and pathetic thing I've heard all day and I heard my brother brood out loud about not winning Barbie."

Elena's jaw dropped as Damon ranted further, "You realize how stupid this is? I thought you were smarter than giving into this cult like monogamy so early on."

She brushed him off, "I like him, I don't know why that's so hard for you to understand."

Damon wasn't even listening to her as he continued with his rambling, "Let me guess , this waiting thing was your idea? No wonder he comes back like a boomerang every time. The second you give him what he wants, he's out- but you knew that, didn't you?"

Elena opened the door to her side and got out with her hands up in surrender, "Can you shut up! Shut up! You have no right to talk about my relationship. And what do you have? Nothing! The herd of girls around you are just there because they are the most insecure, fucked up bimbos in town. No one is ever going to actually love you, ever! But you knew that when you paid that shit load of money on this date to fan your ego, didn't you?"

It was a true slap in the face, maybe worse, "Fuck off."

she stomped her foot as she picked up her bag from the seat, as chilling and scary as the night was, she couldn't stand a second more to look at him. His face was tight as he rolled the hood back up, not caring that she would be all alone up here. He raced back, making sure her 'perfect' face caught the dust.

Elena shivered continuously, trying to get a good signal on her phone. She couldn't get any service here and being here so far away from town, it would take hours on foot.

Damon was blasting the music in his car, just tuning out all of Elena's 'kind words' about him. He didn't know why it was so hard with this girl? She really thought she owned the world, while he knew her type well. Controlling, judgey and a hell lot of bitchy. Matt and his submissive ass was an actual fit for her type. Damon wasn't going to let her toy with him.

He stopped the car, needing a damn break from thinking about her. Just when he was shifting his mind , he saw her jacket in his seat. He hit his fist against the wheel, Elena just weaseled her way back into his mind by leaving a piece of her.

Damon cursed under breath as he turned the car around to race to where he left her.

Elena was sitting near the bridge, when he got back there. It looked like she was trying to get service on her phone. She looked so helpless that even he couldn't leave her there.

When she saw the car, she got up waving her hand but realizing it was Damon, Elena stomped her foot again, turning around towards the bridge.

Damon rolled his eyes at her show of pride. She'd sooner die being stranded then get in the car. He got out with her jacket in his hands. Her whole body was shaking and shivering, yet she did her best to stand straight, holding on to the wood of the bridge. "Get in the car. I am taking you home." She heard Damon's cut-throat tone. Then felt the sudden blanket of warmth as he put her jacket on her shoulders. She involuntarily curled into it. "Just go away." She sniffled.

Damon's brows raised, was she crying? Why the fuck was she crying after what she said to him? Oh right- he left her alone with no actual help but didn't she choose to get out of his car?

"You'll catch a cold here, worse- maybe encounter a serial killer, really want to take a chance?" he asked when he saw her struggling with her phone.

"Why do you care?" she said turning around to face him, he could see the tears rolling down her red cheeks, "Get a hint, okay?"

"I know you don't want me to go, so get in the damn car already." He yelled back.

She shuddered with his voice and swallowed thick. He was staring down at her so intensely, looking dead serious. Though Elena knew in her heart, he wouldn't hurt her, it looked like he would kiss or kill her in the next second if she didn't listen to him. Clutching her jacket to herself, Elena walked back to the car and sat in her seat.

Damon too got in his seat and started the car. When he would look at her from the corner of his eyes, she would be clutching her hands in her lap, head down or sniffling, looking out the window.

What was actually wrong with him? She infuriated the hell out of him yet he just couldn't push her completely out of his mind. Why does he find his amusement in tough things?

Elena pursed her lips when her house got closer, "I am- I-"

"Huh?" he asked slowing the car down.

"I am sorry. I shouldn't have said all that to you." She almost whispered but he heard her, when the car stopped , Elena turned towards the door, waiting for him to say something , "Thank you for dropping me home."

"It was a date now wasn't it?" he said looking ahead.

Elena got out of the car and shut the door after her.

….

Damon hadn't gotten any sleep the night before school, most of the time he had been drinking. If he had taken anything after his father, then that would be his drinking habits.

Though he was hungover, Stefan looked like more of a disaster than him so he didn't even try asking his brother to drive.

When his brother got in the car, Damon huffed, "Hello withdrawal Salvatore."

"I have no ounce of strength but if I did, I'd punch you." Stefan grumbled. Damon let out a breath as he started the car, "You should have stayed home."

His phone buzzed and Damon scoffed when Stefan groaned about it, "Caroline finally started talking to me, I am not going to let Lockwood cock-block me one more day."

"Really? Tyler has far more in the bank than you do, step back. If there is one thing I know about girls, it's that they want the richer one."

Stefan texted her back and put his phone in his pocket, "Really? How come Matt Donovan is hitting it and you aren't."

Yeah right, now he wasn't going to take this shit from his brother. If he wanted the girl, he could get the girl. No matter how much of a PG cringey relationship Matt and Elena had.

He snorted, "He isn't hitting anything. They both are as virgin as the olive oil on Caroline's salad."

"Matt's a virgin? Who the fuck said that?" Stefan frowned, "He's no virgin. He was with April Young at spring break last year. They were practically fucking in front of everyone." He made a sour face. Damon was surprised at the fact that his brother was more offended. Though, he was interested in finding out how Elena would feel.

Stefan tutted, "Well it makes sense, if he's not getting any from her."

"Someone should let her know." Damon smirked, "What If Barbie somehow finds out and tells Elena?"

Stefan palmed his face when he realized what his brother was thinking, "What would I get?"

"I'll transfer some money In your account I know how you desperately need it." Damon feigned a pout.

"Fine. God, you're going to hell." Stefan said when Damon parked the car in front of their school.
