Chapter 6
Elena was lying down on her bed, her laptop was on stand-by for some while now. The whole Saturday afternoon had been spent looking at themes for the dance. Greek Mythology was an amazing option, people would be able to explore something different and get creative with it. She had prepared a neat board with her ideas for this theme, she had to pitch it to Elijah on Monday at the council meeting.
Obviously, now she had more opponents there. For instance, Damon Salvatore.
Blood rushed to her cheeks thinking about him and if she was being honest the whole week after the day at the gym, she had been distracting herself but somehow she would trace her thoughts back to Damon.
She was mad at herself but mostly she was mad at him. How dare he touch her like that? If only she had pulled enough energy to shove him away then but this was an actual problem, she just didn't know how to stop him or herself in the moment.
'Its just hormones, it's just trauma from Matt! It's just- bad.' She'd reason with herself.
Oh she missed another hour thinking about Damon. Time was money. And Damon was actually robbing her in that sense.
She pulled out her phone and called Bonnie, "Where are you?"
"Mm I am at your place." She said as if it was obvious.
"Huh?" Elena sat up and then rolled her eyes when she realised her friend was with her dumb brother. She got up and went outside, knocking on Jeremy's door, "Open the door! Boy-Lolita."
She heard an annoyed Jeremy grumble something before he opened the door for her, Elena looked inside to see Bonnie with a drink in her hand on Jeremy's couch with a game controller in her lap,
"Go away Elena." Jeremy said holding the door so she would leave.
Elena gave him a dirty look before looking back at her friend, "Bon, I need to talk to you about something."
"Sure. Come on in, Jer, Can I get a re-fill." She waved her glass at him.
Elena raised her brows as she saw her otherwise lazy brother take Bonnie's glass and leave the room.
"Are you dating him?" Elena said with a scrunched up face, "His acne hasn't even come in yet."
Bonnie laughed , "No I am not dating him. He's just hanging out with me. Letting me play games on his XBOX."
"Oh he's so in love with you. If Christ resurrected today, and asked to touch the XBOX, Jeremy would refuse." Elena said in a serious tone, "You better keep it in check Bon, I don't want to choose sides this thing bows up."
"You'll obviously choose me." She said giving her shiny hair a wave with her hand dramatically.
"I actually would." Elena chuckled, Bonnie raised a brow, "So tell me what did you want to talk about?"
Elena swallowed thick, now feeling stupid for even thinking about it.
"Um."
"Come on, Elena. You can tell me." Bonnie assured.
She bit her lip slightly, keeping her voice low, "Eh, some stuff happened between Damon and I."
"Some stuff is always happening between you two, now what did he do again?" she asked a bit bored.
Elena's cheeks turned crimson and blood started rushing to all specific parts of her body for even thinking about it.
"Well, I don't know how to put this- em, I guess you can call it oral sex." She said keeping her voice above a whisper.
Bonnie's eyes widened, she had imagined her friend meant Damon flirted or yet again annoyed her.
"You what?" she asked in shock.
"I didn't know what happened, we were alone and I was hurt after the Matt thing, next thing I know he kisses me and I couldn't stop." She explained looking around in her room and avoiding Bonnie's jade green eyes that were full of judgement burning into her.
"Oh wow. So what now?" Bonnie asked, unable to form words. Elena scratched her neck in nervousness, "I can't work, I am distracted. I am thinking about it."
"So it was that good, huh?" Bonnie chuckled. Elena scrunched up her face, "I just want to get over it now."
Bonnie had a hint of a smile on her face, "That council meeting on Monday is going to be weird. Sorry honey, I can't help you. The only way to get over a guy is to get under another, but that's out the door since you're virgin Mary."
Elena knew Bonnie found amusement in her misery so she grabbed a cushion and shoved her with it, "Shut up, Man eater!"
She got up and went towards the door, when she got out, she saw Jeremy leaning against the wall as if trying to hear, she slapped his shoulder, "Get a real girlfriend, errand boy."
"Says the Geeky whore." He spat.
"Says Bonnie's Butler!"
"Guys, break it up. Jeremy, where's my refill?" Bonnie asked. Elena mocked Jeremy by showing her tongue to which he pushed her towards her room, "Coming right up."
...
..
Elena was the first one there to the meeting, she put her blue folders on the table, eager to share her idea with Elijah. Dragging the presentation board that she had bought personally because Rebekah thought it was a stupid expense half an year ago, she set it with some of her printed mood boards.
The door opened and she thought it was Elijah but it wasn't.
It was him, Damon.
"You're forty minutes too early." Elena commented on his unlikely 'on-time' appearance. Where was everyone else? She thought in her head.
"I am a spontaneous person, you know- one moment you hate me- the next you are begging me to make you come." He said standing near the opposite end of the table.
Elena tensed up, he addressed the elephant in the room without wasting a second, "I never begged you besides its called a moment of weakness for a reason."
"You seem to be having a lot of those." He chuckled as he stalked towards her slowly, Elena begin stepping back till she was as pinned against her presentation board like her magazine cut outs.
"And around me." His cool breath brushed against her cheeks, she kept her eyes lowered, "You'll step away if you don't want me to knee you in a very sacred place for you." Her warn sounded like a joke to him.
"Oh come on, don't act like you hate it. Once you give in- you won't ever want to stop." His lips brushed against the shell of her ear, one of his hand was curved around her waist to keep her in place.
Her face lifted when he pulled her chin up with his thumb, "Does that scare you? Or are you game?"
She found herself way too eager to take his challenge, "What if someone walks in on us?"
"Well we better hurry." The corner of his mouth quirked up, making him devilishly handsome.
Elena nodded, leaning up to close the distance between their lips. He held her harshly, as she bit his lower lip, her legs wrapping around him slowly. Damon slid his hands down her curves to lift her up as he turned them around, sitting her down on the table, while their mouths clashed against each other, sucking on her tongue that was completely familiar with him by now.
She winced when she felt the bulge in his jeans press against her centre in pleasuring sinful thrusts causing her to move back against him for more friction. His lips brushed against her cheeks down to her neck in slow, sloppy kisses that were definitely intending to leave a mark.
If someone walked in now, that would be social suicide for her. But she had never felt more excited. The touch of his dangerous skilled fingers against the bare skin of her thighs under her skirt reminded her of what he made her feel that day in the showers. Pure carnal desire began bubbling inside her, only he could bring her to the ecstatic release she craved.
"Uh-uh ask me to touch you." He demanded when she moaned for him to continue.
He was cruel, he knew that. She was helpless at this point, on the verge of hating him to just giving up and begging him.
"Damon, please." She whimpered surprising herself and him.
Then there it was, her nightmare looking at her like she lost. He finally owned her ego, her control and he couldn't be more obvious about his victory. With a cocky expression he reached for her skirt. Elena looked down at his large hands, aching for their touch-
Knock, knock, knock.
She shook, opening her eyes- She was in her room. One cheek warmer than the other because her face was pressed against her laptop. Snapping her eyes towards the door, Elena realised it had a been a dream.
Of course Damon being early to a council meeting should have been her first clue.
"Yes?"
She knew it was one of her parents because Jeremy never bothered to knock.
It was her Dad. Elena sat up in her bed when her dad entered. One of the rare Sundays he was home. Dressed in a blue checked shirt and beige pants.
"Elena, you missed family lunch." He seemed in a good mood.
He sat on the bed, one of his hand reached to stroke Elena's hair back in place, "You've been working a lot. I remember in med school I'd just pass out wherever. On top of the books, in the school grounds."
Elena felt guilty because here her Dad thought she was exhausted from working but actually she had been day dreaming about Damon. Her subconscious was not done with the cruel bastard.
"I am fine, really. I'll go get myself left overs, you don't need to worry about me, Dad. You've got so much on your plate." She tried to say it with her best smile.
He shrugged, "Sweetie, its a parent's job to worry, and before I am some wacky doctor, I am your father."
She giggled as he pulled at her cheek like he used to do all the time when she was a little girl.
"Besides, Jeremy is far too embarrassed to have parents right now at his age." Elena shook her head with a laugh, "Yeah, he's going to grow out of it and then you and I are going to embarrass him."
Her dad agreed and pat her shoulder, "So I've noticed your absence from the hospital."
Elena squeezed one of her eyes, "I was just caught up in school, our school won debate though."
"That's amazing sweetie, I knew you could, but I am going to need you to come in on Wednesdays and Fridays, okay?" He raised a brow, definitely expecting her to say yes.
She agreed with a nod. Then Grayson left her room and Elena was left to collect her scattered thoughts.
...
..
Week two of his hell had started pretty great, Damon found exactly who he was looking for right outside school.
'Oh my naive puppet' he thought as he approached the person leaning against the greyish stone banister of the staircase.
"A splendid morning to you, Mr. President." Damon jokingly tipped his imaginary hat.
Elijah looked up from the book he was reading with a poker face, "Damon. Can I help you?"
Damon scoffed-laughed, "Uh no Elijah, but I can help you." Like this teenage grandpa knew anything other than solving crossword puzzles. Damon thought condescendingly.
"I don't believe I've asked for your help in any matters." He said a bit too proud.
"Yes and that's terribly unfortunate because you can really use it." Damon scrunched up his face, "Look, I'll be straight with you about this, your sister can't shut up about how your unrequited love for Elena has made you sour than you already were, which I thought was impossible." Damon raised his brows, "So since you showed me such deep and pure hospitality at the council, I'd like to return the favour by setting you up with Elena Gilbert."
Elijah's jaw dropped at this information, he didn't need any love advice from this borderline delinquent, especially to get the affections of a very sophisticated Elena Gilbert. "Its a hard pass." He commented, "I'll need to tell Rebekah to shut Her chatterbox around people." He murmured.
Truth was Rebekah only mentioned it once. Damon had to get Elijah willing to take his help, if he had to make Elena's life a living hell, Elijah needed to be on his side.
"Oh come on Elijah, it's not fair." Damon pretended to be angry, "You shoved your feelings to this box inside your robot heart and meanwhile guys like Matt Donovan play this chick like a fiddle."
Elijah only stopped for a second before Damon started his speech.
"Don't you think Elena needs to be treated good, I know you're the kind of guy that can treat her right. You've thought about it, don't deny it." He pressed.
Elijah let out a breath before confessing, "I have. But I will never make Elena uncomfortable."
"Who says she's uncomfortable? Look if she can go out with Matt, she's going to strike gold with you. You'll just have to let her know you're available." Damon said grabbing his collar as if setting it right, "So you want my help now?"
Elijah pursed his lips as if doing the math in his head, "Okay. But you better keep it decent. I don't want to get on the sex offender's list."
"Hey trust me, so phase one. You're going to level yourself with her." He moved a step back, by show of hands he raised one hand above the other, "Right now you're far below her, so you have to switch the power dynamic."
Elijah's narrowed his eyes , "Well I am the president, doesn't that put me above her in hierarchy?"
Damon gritted his teeth, "I am not talking about the council, look girls don't want to date a guy who can't stand his own. And right now the council is on auto pilot. Elena makes all the decisions."
Elijah rolled his eyes, "That's not true, she has to pass everything by me."
"And do you ever say no?" Damon had noticed that, Elijah was a 'Yes man' when it came to Elena, that's how Damon ended up with excessive responsibilities.
"Well, in my defence they are all very good ideas." Elijah blushed slightly. Damon cocked his head to the side, "Did the girls bathroom really need more lights?"
Elijah scratched the back of his head as if caught, "I can't ask her why she needs more lights, what if she uses the menstrual cycle card?"
"Or maybe she wanted to apply her makeup in bright light." Damon mocked.
"Okay fine. I am basically dead and the vice president runs everything." Elijah sighed in frustration, "So what about it? What should I do?"
"Easy, to be visible to her, you have to challenge her. How about you say no today? Come on, I'll tell you all about it." Damon suggested.
...
..
This was real now. Elena was in the council meeting for real this time. Thankfully the room had other people too. And like real life, Damon was late.
Elena set her boards. Bonnie was annoying her all day, and now too. "Elena, best of luck for the presentation, although you've always been good orally." Bonnie snickered.
Elena glared at her, "I regret giving you my turn on the swing when we were kids."
"Oh come on Elena. I am just having fun." She slapped Elena's shoulder.
Elena whined, "Well, I am dying. Its like fire is jumping out of my skin."
"Oh relax it's just Damon, he gets around this school like ecstasy at a rave. I am pretty sure he's forgotten all about it." She tried to comfort Elena, but that irritated her for some reason.
So she was just one of the many girls. Damon did that with other girls? She felt sick to her stomach. The thought of being in a similar group with other girls made her want to kill him even more.
Would he have forgotten about her? Not thought about her constantly like she did all week and the weekend? That was so harsh and ugly.
Elijah entered the room, followed by Damon. Elijah had a file in his hand while he was still talking to him.
Elena bit the inside of her cheek, acting aloof. Then Damon took the other seat next to Elijah. Elena glared at him, how dare a new member sit with them but Elijah didn't even react.
Elena started to peek over the file Elijah was holding, "Is em, is this the 1000 words report?" great, now she got to exercise her power. She was eager to point out his mistakes, make him re-edit for the whole school year.
"Yes. I was just talking to Damon about it, it's astonishingly one of the finest pieces I've ever read." He said with an appreciative nod. Elena tried to reach for the file but Elijah kept it under his arm, "I've passed it for the demo paper."
"but I haven't even read it." She said taken aback, looking at Damon for a second who was smirking.
Elijah slightly chuckled, "Elena, I don't need your insight on this."
She pursed her lips tightly, she wasn't used to this. Elijah always wanted her opinion.
"Now we are talking dance today." Elijah said knocking the table. Bonnie stopped filing her nails with a roll of her eyes and Rebekah too sat up more straight.
Elena quickly spoke, "Before we hear other ideas, that I am sure are very interesting and I value them, I also have been working on a theme that I want to share."
She got up from the seat, bringing out her presentation board. She gulped thinking of what happened against this board in her dream and maybe stared a bit too long as if captivated.
Rebekah scoffed, "Argh look what Dora pulled out of her nerd bag."
Mason, Damon and Bonnie laughed but Elijah knocked on the table again, "Rebekah please, keep your nonsensical jokes for when you're not in this room."
Elena turned around licking her lips, somehow she was only looking at Damon. Thinking of how he made her lose all control in her dream fantasy.
Damon seemed amused with her nervousness.
She swallowed thick as she started, "I thought for the dance we can go with themes, Greek mythology. We'd make the decor white and gold so it seems heavenly. We can serve fruits, cakes and cheeses as food, everyone can dress accordingly. It would get the students to indulge in something new."
"Or something ancient and completely uninteresting." Damon commented.
Elena put her hands on her hips, "I don't want your opinion."
"Why not?" Elijah asked, "He is part of the council, you should respect his opinion."
"Yes but he doesn't care about this, and he knows nothing about arranging a good dance. Now if I may give the rest of my presentation." Elena said rudely.
Elijah interrupted, "When did he say he didn't care about this? Damon, do you not care about this event?" He asked Damon.
Damon had a smile on his face, "I care as much as she does. Maybe even more. I don't want to spend our limited funds on this party, this idea has many cons than it has pros."
Elena hissed, "Oh really Mr Trust fund, tell me what the cons are other then students enjoying a classy party, because we know everyone's happiness rubs you the wrong way."
Damon rubbed his hands together then looked at Elijah for permission who nodded for him to proceed.
"There's going to be many school events, I've checked the calendar so spending excessive amount of money on this will limit us and we will have to cancel three of those events." He continued boring his blue eyes into hers.
"I don't think the students care about Greek mythology, they don't need fruits and cheeses, I am pretty sure I've seen people here drink punch from a bowl that had dry paper towel ships in it. Besides, classy can be done on a budget."
Elijah didn't let Elena speak, "Do you have any ideas?"
"A masquerade dance. Normal food, black and while decor. No ice statues." He said the last one as a joke. Elena bit her lip in anger, "So If you care so much about the dance, where's the homework?"
Damon snickered, "Didn't you say you value our interesting ideas?"
Elijah huffed, "Okay, you know what, I think Damon is right."
Bonnie hissed looking at a mortified Elena, "Argh that's got to hurt."
"Elijah!" Elena said shocked, "Are you really passing his on the spot plan? I am not arranging a stupid masquerade." She felt like she was getting stripped of her dignity.
Elijah shrugged, "Fine, Damon will do it."
Damon clutched his hands, fuck. The plan really backfired, he didn't want to work on the stupid party, Elijah continued, "He will supervise you and the volunteers."
Elena's cheeks turned crimson with indignation.
Great, Damon thought, he was back on the wheel.
"What? He can't supervise the dance, it's my job." She said sitting back in her seat.
"I'd be honoured, Elijah." Damon's words added salt to the wound.
"It is what it is, Elena." Elijah huffed opening his planner, "Okay, so we have the carwash on Saturday. I want you people to get me maximum volunteers, and write your volunteer's names down so if I catch them making out on the job, I can suspend you from the council."
Bonnie let out a sigh, "Is it weird that I am kind of attracted to Elijah right now?"
...
It was the first time ever that Elena approached him in the hall way, "What did you do?" she asked Damon, holding his elbow, turning him to her. He had an annoying smile on his face that she wanted to wipe off, "What? I don't know what I did?"
"Why did you do that in there?" She spat.
He was so calm that it was killing her, "Because I can."
"Damon, this isn't a game." She bit out.
"Then why do you keep losing, kitten." He said touching the tip of nose.
She pushed his hand away, "If this is a way to win me over, it's going terribly wrong."
He laughed, "I am not interested in winning you over. Although I don't mind watching up pull your hair out in anger."
Lie. Biggest lie of his life. He was infatuated with getting her. In all ways, she would want him, desperately. And right when she gives up and gives in- he would leave. He detested snooty girls like her though it was also his type.
Elena was the definition of his type, full of fire and fight, long dark hair that he imagined wrapping around his hand, lips that felt like they were drawn by an artist, olive skin, and those long legs would be the death of him.
"What?" she asked with narrowed eyes, he was looking at her like he wanted to eat her and it freaked her out.
"I've got football practice so I have to go, but I don't mind you stopping by the showers later."
Her eyes widened with the memory, he didn't miss how she squirmed slightly, "I don't know what you're talking about."
He rolled his eyes, classic Elena.
He leaned in near her ear to whisper, "I am talking about getting a taste, you know like I did the other day. I haven't forgotten about it, I know you haven't either, so quit lying."
She pulled away from him, "Why don't you call Elijah?, apparently he's doing everything else for you." She hissed walking away.
Damon scrunched up his face at her mock suggestion.
...
..
Elena couldn't believe what she was reading. The article that was published in the demo newspaper was outstanding. No way Damon wrote this. His writing was so witty, yet so on point. He made all the facts less about numbers and more about what they presented in town history. Even his critique on some political decisions was so educated. He had ended it with suggestions for the future but didn't forget to applaud the efforts of the ancestors so he didn't seem too much of a nit-picker. Perfectly balanced.
And here she expected less than the bare minimum. He was- making her feel insecure about every article she had ever written. Elijah was right, Damon's article was remarkably good. He was a diamond in the rough.
She enviously read the article a few more times, did it just come naturally to him?
She folded the paper and put it her bag for a later read. She intended to break down every sentence, find something that was not visible right now. One mistake that would validate her.
She went back to signing up volunteers for the car wash day.
Damon had gotten a bunch of girls to sign for the car wash, he hated this life where he had to work for the stupid school, it was still better than drama club. They were going to put together some play soon and Damon wished that they'd run short on funds.
"Hey- Blond Broody." He called Stefan when he saw him in the cafeteria. Damon handed him the clipboard, "Sign your name, you're washing cars on Saturday and I need at least four guys on my team."
Stefan tutted, "You owe me fifty dollars for this."
"You're worse than a hooker you know that?" Damon said putting his hands in pockets to get his wallet, "Here, take 100, you're not leaving till five."
"You've bought my loyalties with royalties." He faked a bow. Damon cringed, "I liked you better on drugs."
"Well I am sober now, I've been sober three weeks and four days, so basically a whole month." Stefan huffed.
Damon was honestly surprised how well Stefan was doing, something was really fishy about this.
"Molly counts as drugs." Damon implied that just because he wasn't coked up didn't mean he was sober.
"I know, I am not doing molly. Now don't be a fucking dick." Stefan said stuffing the money in his pocket.
...
..
It was car wash charity day, everyone was outside school and by the looks of it, dressed down to bathing suits. Elena and Bonnie were in a corner exchanging gossip while Caroline had been thriving the whole month due to her chick-flick romance with Tyler Lockwood.
"I finally get the hype about it. Tyler says he fell in love with me at first sight." She gushed.
Bonnie raised her brows, "Well that explains, if only he had waited till you talked about yourself for four days straight."
Elena gasped, "Bonnie! We have to show support to our friend. Caroline, ignore her she's just bitter."
Caroline waved her hand, "Oh I don't care at all. Tyler rented out the whole movie theatre for me. If I were her, I'd be jealous too."
Bonnie groaned in annoyance, "I am not jealous, remember when she used to throw a fit about you and Matt spending so much time we didn't have any girl time. Well, she's practically living with Tyler now. I miss us."
Caroline and Elena melted with her confession, the blonde said, "Aww Bonnie, you should have said that. Hey, you know what? No more Tyler talk for the rest of the weekend."
Bonnie chuckled, "Sign me up for that."
Caroline quickly added, "Except when or if we end up in a sleepover tonight."
"Deal." Bonnie and Caroline shook hands like two kids after a fight on the playground. Elena thought it was adorable, just when she was enjoying her day, it got interrupted by Damon calling her from across the parking, "We're out of soap here, Gilbert. Do you mind bringing some?"
Elena snarled, "He's been trying to corner me all day, I know this is an excuse."
Caroline tapped her shoulder, "Don't worry Elena, I'll get it."
Elena was sure almost all boys here were shirtless. Yet Damon had his black V-neck on with his jeans. The shirt was all wet, stuck to his body yet he wouldn't take it off.
Didn't he say he didn't mind walking around naked? Didn't he know taking off that shirt would bring swarms of women here. She didn't know why she was upset that he wasn't shirtless. Well because she had been looking forward to it while getting ready in the morning.
Elena wasn't proud to admit but she was fascinated with him, whether it be his toned body or that mysterious wound on his chest. He had been nothing short of a Greek god, not to mention nothing was short on his body. Especially his tumescent cock. Would it even fit? She thought , but then she grew appalled at her outrageous ideas.
Maybe she looked too long because suddenly his eyes caught hers in act.
She averted her eyes away and started using her sponge on a car that Bonnie was cleaning too.
Meanwhile, Caroline walked across the parking with soap, hand on her hips she said in a 'in your face' tone, "Here, brought you soap."
His eyes were fixed on his eventual damnation, Elena Gilbert, dressed in denim shorts and a black Cami-blouse.
Her legs were mile long drenched in soap and her movements were sensual as she used the sponge and water to clean the windows. About five minutes ago she was staring at him, now she was cleaning that car the very sexy way. Was she doing it for him? Or was he just imagining it. Yeah, she wouldn't move her hips like that. It wasn't all innocent.
"Yeah, use it." He said avoiding Caroline and going straight to Elena.
Caroline rolled her eyes, "So Elena was right, he is just trying to corner her." Talking to particularly no one.
"Yup, that's Damon for you. Always wants what he can't have." Stefan commented.
Caroline noticed him cleaning the trunk just then, "Well Elena's not one to fall for it."
"Oh she's going to fall for it." Stefan said way too surely, "I know this pattern. I can bet on it."
Caroline raised a brow, "Really? Fine I'll bet on it. What do I get if I win?"
Stefan thought for a few seconds before answering, "I'll get you any dress you want, whether its 100 dollars or 1500."
Her eyes widened slightly, "And what if you win?"
He pursed his lip before smiling, "I'll think of it later. All I can think right now when I picture you is pom-poms."
Caroline shook her head with a giggle, "So how did you ever come to a school event?"
Stefan shrugged, "Mm I wanted to, also Damon threatened to feed me my balls if I didn't."
She picked up a water hose to help him clean soap, "Your cleaning is sloppy."
She said taking the sponge from him and sitting down to properly clean the trunk of the car, he huffed with a hand on the trunk, "Hey, I actually wanted to apologise for being a jerk to you."
She shrugged, "You weren't a jerk to me. You just never replied to my texts or when you did, you wanted a naked picture."
He grew embarrassed due to her sarcastic tone, "Well, thank you for not bringing that up."
She looked over her shoulder at him, "Stefan, it's cool, I am with Tyler now so we can just put this behind us."
"Oh you're with Tyler." He said only slightly disappointed, that was fast. He thought.
But then again, if that meant she wouldn't pine for him anymore, he was okay with it. She got up and handed him the sponge, "That's how you do it."
He tried to hold the water hose from her but just when he grabbed it, she put the sprayer in front of his face, he coughed when the water drenched him. Caroline giggled, "Well I guess I wasn't completely over it."
He took the pipe from her, "Caroline, you've got soap on you. Let me get that."
She shrieked when he ruined her perfect curled hair with the water. "Jerk! Jerk!"
"How do you like it now?" he asked grabbing her when she tried to escape, he held her in place soaking her hair.
"Oh wow, someone's having fun." Tyler showed up out of nowhere, making it weird. Caroline looked back at Stefan before pulling away from him, "Yeah, they needed more soap."
Tyler put his arm around her protectively, "Well, I am sure they have it now."
"Yes we do." Stefan said calmly.
"I'll see you later." Caroline waved her hand politely as Tyler dragged her away.
...
..
"Bonnie, Elijah is asking for you." Damon said once he walked over to her spot. Elena was so transparent about ignoring him that for a second it felt like he was invisible to her.
Bonnie, who was dressed in a lime colour crop top and a denim skirt, pinned her hair up with a claw clip, as if exhausted, "I don't think so, pretty boy."
"Why would I lie?" He asked putting his hands on the hood of the car.
"Because you want to annoy Elena." She said in a straight forward tone. Damon bit the inside of his cheek, "Fine, I'll tell Elijah that you don't give a fuck."
Once he turned around to leave, Bonnie huffed, "Okay, I'll leave but this better not be another episode of the biggest pathological liar." She dropped her bucket and walked away.
Damon looked back to see Elena was gone.
He narrowed his eyes, did she really run away from him? He walked across the empty spot and noticed her just sitting behind a tree on a curb stone.
He walked closer and as if she could sense his presence without even turning her head, she said, "I am taking a five minute break."
Her eyes were staring into the distance.
He sat down next to her but she didn't run away or flinch like most times, "What's wrong?"
She chuckled humourlessly, "You don't get to ask me that."
"Why shouldn't I?"
"I read your article, it was- okay. Then you took over the party. I didn't care about it."
"You sure were subtle about it." He snickered.
"Yeah and now when I was washing Mr. Saltzman car, he told me I am off the tech quiz team. Because they found a better candidate from the school. You." She pursed her lips looking away.
"What?" He made a disgusted face, why would Mr Saltzman do that? He knew Damon loathed quizzes and competitions and he'd rather die than- Oh okay this was another punishment.
"Elena, I didn't want to be on that team." He said when he realized the girl sitting besides him was very upset.
"That's the thing Damon, you don't want things! You just get them. You get the praise, the article, the party, the team- a fucking quiz I've been working on since summer!" She was near bursting into tears.
"Weren't you the one who said these things were 'good' for me?" He asked only slightly bitter in his tone.
She nodded, "Yes but you couldn't care less about these things. All of this is just because you want to make me feel miserable, well congratulations. I do." She bit her lip in frustration.
"Well don't act like you hold back. You take every shot you get to ruin my life. Maybe it's just the fact that I am better at taking it." He reached to touch her hair but she pushed his hand away, "Keep your hands off me."
"Oh come on, you love them, all over you- around you, in you."
Her cheeks turned hot with his words, she clutched her fists to keep herself from punching him.
"I didn't miss the way you ogled me all morning and then you put on quite a show of cleaning that car." He said pushing her buttons. Elena hissed, "I was just wondering why of all people, you refused to take your clothes off."
"Aw, you wanted to see me naked. All you have to do is ask." He teased.
"Ugh, I'd rather run into a wall." She was going to get up but he held her hand, "You want to know why?"
Elena sat back down, not evening feigning that she wasn't interested in knowing.
"Its because I have that wound scar on my chest. People ask about it and I just don't want to share something so personal with them, I hate to talk about it. So I never talk about it." He confessed, all playfulness had washed away from his face. She pressed her lips together looking down at that particular spot, she knew where it was. On the left side, so close to his heart.
"But you told me."
"I know." He said with a ghost of a smile. Like they shared a big secret now.
She glanced up to catch his eyes already looking at her, eyes blue and dangerous like the ocean. That seemed beautiful yet they could drown you.
To think she knew something about him that most people didn't was strange, did he tell the other girls about it when he was with them? If she asked and he said no, would she even believe him?
"Bonnie's probably looking for me." She said getting up.

The rumours weren't wrong. Damon was on the school tech quiz team and he was mad about it. Somehow they told Giuseppe and the whole weekend had been embarrassing.
His father had asked Logan Fell to cover the competition on the town's local news too as if getting on C-Span wasn't enough.
He was furious when he went into Alaric Saltzman's class, "This is taking it too far!"
He seemed surprised seeing Damon enter like he was going to shoot fire out of his eyes.
"Mr. Salvatore."
"Why the formality? You're screwing me left and right anyway." He spat.
"Watch your tone, Damon." Alaric gestured for him to sit down, "I believe this is about your nomination on the school's tech group?"
"Like hell it is." He sat down, still breathing fire like a cursed dragon.
"Damon, believe it or not, your sudden improvement in academics is really surprising for all of us. All of us feel like we have a potential star pupil here."
Damon hissed, "You already have a star pupil."
He didn't study to win a fucking quiz, he studied to de-throne Elena. That was the extent of it. And now he was paying for it.
"Yes, she's amazing. She can do without all of this, but don't you see this is as a chance for you to flourish and show your potential. Elena will have next year but your college application will go out in three months, you need something to show for." He said in a concerning tone which nauseated Damon further, "I've seen the records from your previous school, Damon. You've always been exceptionally smart."
"Oh give me a break." He scoffed in annoyance.
"But suddenly you dropped out, mid-year. Why? And then taking a whole gap year. You ended up here." He talked as if he knew everything about him.
"You investigated pretty deep." Damon said with pursed lips. Alaric chuckled, "Turns out you were in the hospital. I am sure that must have been hard."
"You are insane." Damon spat.
Alaric's lips twisted into a smile, "This annoys you now but you'll be thankful for my efforts when you recognise your potential."
Damon couldn't stand the bullshit anymore so he got up to leave, "Fine, have it your way, I am going to fail this so hard that you'll be outvoted in the teacher's committee."
The sandy brown haired man remained calm as he propped his face on his hands, "The same committee will expel Gilbert if I so much as make a peep." His threat did slightly impact Damon, but he shook his head, "I don't care anymore."
"You don't?"
When Damon stayed silent, Alaric huffed and pulled out his phone, "I have the evidence in a little zip lock baggy and I am just going to text the principal- you know I'll exaggerate, once I prove one thing, doesn't matter if the next words out of my mouth are crack dealer or heroin user."
Damon reached to hold his arm, no way- Elena and him could never come back from that. She'll get expelled and that would be the end of anything. Revenge, games, any interest he had in this town and life.
"Fine. I'll do it."
Alaric looked up at him, "And you're winning this thing."
"I am." He found himself confirming.
He'd just have to deal with the revenge Elena was planning for him because if he knew her, she was plotting right now.
