Mundane, that's how I would describe my life. I never thought it would come to this, 22, working in the diner of this mundane small town, still living with my dad, a career cop whose never actually home.
"Order up Bells" Jasper shouts from the kitchen,
"Coming," I walk over to the kitchen, Jessica walks up to me,
"Hey Bella, have you heard the news?", ugh why is she so chipper, she ties her apron as she goes behind the counter,
"No, and your late again," I huff, I suppose having two young children to cart around must be hard, maybe I should cut her some slack, maybe its just my grumpy self, I deliver the food to the table and head back around the counter to where she is sat,
"How have you not heard? The Cullen's are back in town!" with that I feel my heart sink into my stomach, not that I let it show, I just shrug wiping the spotless side. "Did you not know, I thought he would have been in touch?"
"Why? Why would he contact me?!" I Snap, the guilt filling me instantly, "Sorry Jess, but he left me 4 years ago, he didn't even… it doesn't matter, how do you know anyway?" I feel my eyes brimming with tears I turn my back to Jess and sport Jasper shooting me a sympathetic look from behind the kitchen hatch.
"Mike saw them when he went to work at the store last night, they were buying things to renew the house!" Of course, the biggest two gossips in forks would end up together, Jess and mike were the ultimate high school sweethearts, now married with two kids, forever stuck in the small-town life.
I didn't want that life, but he ruined that for me. "Ahh" is all I can gasp out, I hear the bell above the door go, I turn not lifting my eyes "Welcome to Whitlock diner, what can I get you today?"
"A coffee, black please" the voice stops me dead in my tracks as I lift my eyes up, I'm hit with so many emotions, but the anger fills me,
"Alice? What are you doing here?" I meet eyes with my best friend, she's dressed to the nines, especially for this town,
"You, I need to talk to you" she drops a ten dollar bill on the top "Bring yourself a drink," She walks to a booth and takes a seat.
"Bells, are you okay?" I feel Jas behind me,
"Uh…" I clear my throat, "Ye-Yeah I just, do you mind if I go? I can't be here with her, I..." Jas nods, as my current best friend's brother he knows the story behind me and the Cullen's,
"Go, I'll call Rose, me and jess will cope, go out the back," He gives me a quick hug, "Love you, I'll send Rosie over!". I just nod, he knows how much I appreciate this by the tears brimming in my eyes, I sneak past him out to the back of the restaurant where my beat up truck is parked, and I can feel my breathing faltering.
I sit in the cab of my truck when my phone rings, I look at the screen and answer immediately,
"R-Rose, I think he's back" I stutter out,
"I know he is, His oaf of a cousin just dropped a fancy car off at the garage, don't worry, I'll meet you at mine!" I hear her car revving in the background, Rose was the owner of Whitlock Garage after her and Jas parents died when we were 19 they got enough inheritance to last them a lifetime, so they both set up their own businesses.
I drive to Roses house, too far gone to notice the black Sudan following along behind me.
