The Tortuga flies out of a time warp, and arrives Pennsylvania of the Early Jurassic. Which at this time was a lush rainforest similar to those of present-day New Zealand. And had valleys within the mountain ranges as a loud roar was heard within it's depths.
Pennsylvania
200 Million Years Ago
"So, where and when are we now?" Jimmy asked.
"Let's see." Chris said checking the map of Pangaea. "It looks like were over where Pennsylvania will be 1 day."
"You know, I think we're over where Philadelphia will be." Koki said.
"At this point, Pangaea is beginning to break apart." Martin said.
"So how did dinosaurs came to rule the Earth anyway?" Jimmy asked.
"Well that's an interesting story." Chris said and works on the big screen. "Well, 50 million years earlier, it was just 20 million years before the dinosaurs arrived. Pangaea was ruled by a different group of reptiles, but they were actually more linked to mammals, including us."
The screen then showed a Gorgonops, Scutosaurus, and Lystrosaurus.
"Whoa, strange-looking guys." Koki said.
"Yeah, this is what we would see in the Permian." Martin said. "But then, everything changed."
"What happened?" Aviva asked.
"Well, in the area where Siberia will be, a major volcanic eruption happened." Chris said. "The region is called the Siberia Traps, and it caused a huge chain reaction. Causing the Permian Extinction or the Great Dying."
"It's the biggest mass extinction to ever hit the planet." Martin said. "95% of all life vanished into extinction."
"Whoa." Aviva, Koki and Jimmy said in unison.
"Yeah, but few animals were lucky to make it through." Chris said. "Including our ancestors of the time."
"So... is life on Earth still recovering even it this time?" Aviva asked.
"Well, there are signs that the Earth still recovering in this time." Martin said. "Including the animals that are filling in of the extinct ones."
"Then 20 million years after the Permian Extinction, a new kind of creature has arrived." Chris said. "It was Eoraptor: the very first dinosaur."
"Eventually, dinosaurs were able to spread to other parts of the world because of Pangaea." Martin said. "And were some of the smartest creatures of this time. And they're adaptable."
"So, what dinosaurs live here, anyway?" Koki asked.
"That we gotta find out." Chris said.
The Tortuga slowly soars over the forest, but because it was so thick, Jimmy couldn't find a clearing big enough to land. So, the Tortuga was put into hover mode, and they were lowered down by ropes.
And soon, they begin exploring the primordial forest.
A few minutes later, they soon came across a pack of 4 small predatory dinosaurs with a short crest on their heads.
A group of flesh-eaters is on the prowl. This is Syntarsus, at 10 feet from head to tail, they're about the same size as their forerunners in the Triassic, but these guys aren't chasing bugs.
They're stalking dinosaurs.
"Who are those guys?" Jimmy wondered.
"They look like Syntarsus. But they've been renamed to Megapnosaurus." Chris said. "Amazing, they're moving together like a pack."
The Megapnosaurus pack growled as they patrolled their hunting ground, and one of them turns to the Wild Kratts. It cocked it's head curiously at them as if they were the strangest creatures it ever seen. But soon it lost interest and follows it's pack.
The Megapnosaurus pack lightly shrieked as they moved through the forest as the Wild Kratts followed.
Somewhere up ahead of them, another dinosaur about 4 times bigger than a Megapnosaurus was feeding on the ferns. It was a plant eating dinosaur called Anchisaurus, it had a long neck and tail. And it made a lowing sound as it feeds.
Nearby, the Megapnosaurus pack were prowling still and soon heard the calls from the Anchisaurus and begin to head to it.
The Anchisaurus continues feeding as the Wild Kratts have managed to get ahead of the Megapnosaurus and soon saw it.
"Whoa, an Anchisaurus!" Chris and Martin said.
Anchisaurus is a plant eater. Although it walks on all 4s, it spends most of its time on its hind legs browsing in the tree. A claw on its thumb is its only protection.
"This is actually some of the first plant-eating dinosaurs." Martin said.
"He's amazing." Aviva said.
"Whoa, that's a big claw of that guy's thumb." Jimmy said seeing the Anchisaur's thumb claw.
"Hey, it can be a serious weapon it needed." Chris said. "But it might also help with pulling down branches to feed."
They continued watching the Anchisaurus as then the Megapnonsaurus pack appeared. And soon they begin to confront the herbivore.
The Megapnosaurus soon shrieked out as the Anchisaurus turns to them, and then turns towards the pack as it growls out as the confronts it. The Anchisaurus growled at the pack and then rears up on it's hind legs as it tries to intimidate them. Then 1 Megapnosaurus lunges forward to get at it's throat, but the Anchisaurus swiftly swatted it's right hand at the smaller predator as it was knocked back as the pack turns to their fallen member.
"Whoa!" Chris said amazed. "A hit like that could easily kill a Syntarsus."
The remaining 3 Megapnosaurus turns back to the Anchisaurus.
Close by, another Anchisaurus growled and runs off.
Not far away, a whole herd of Anchisaurus including a youngster soon were aware of the Megapnosaurus pack, and quickly flee.
The Anchisaurus ran through the forest as fast as it's legs could carry it as the Megapnosaurus pack chased after it.
The Anchisaurus growled as it ran through the forest, and the Megapnosaurus as they shrieked. The Anchisaurus continues running as the pack soon gave up the chase.
Syntarsus and Anchisaurus may look similar now, but in the future they'll go their separate ways.
Anchisaurus will evolve into Sauropods, the largest plant eaters of all time.
Soon, the Wild Kratts caught up to the Anchisaurus, and soon Martin scans the dinosaur with his CreaturePod. And soon shows a holographic screen of it's skull.
Its leaf-shaped teeth are well suited for plucking vegetation.
The screen then moves over to it's neck. As well as it's hands.
Its neck is long for reaching into the trees, and the claw on its foot is ideal for digging or pulling down branches.
Koki then scans the Syntarsus.
Syntarsus will evolve into Theropods, like Allosaurus and T. Rex.
The holographic screen then showed the Syntarsus' skull.
Its jaw is designed to absorb the stress of struggling prey.
The screen then shows it's rib-cage.
Its wishbone only found in birds, helps make its arms more flexible.
The screen then showed it's legs and feet.
And its 3-toed feet allow for faster running than the plant eaters.
The Syntarsus walks off.
Aviva works on the M.I.K with the collective information from the scans of both Anchisaurus and Syntarsus. And soon, she finishes and 2 orange Anchisaurus Power Discs and grabs them.
"2 Anchisaurus Power Discs ready." Aviva said.
She then tossed them to Chris and Martin as they inserted them into their Power Suits. They went up to the Anchisaurus, and touched it's tail and soon activated into Anchisaurus Power.
"Whoa, these claws are awesome!" Chris beamed.
The Anchisaurus walks through the forest as then it turns back and growled, and then moves away as it got nervous.
Anchisaurus is clearly outclassed.
The Megapnosaurus pack begins to close in as they shrieked.
"Oh, this will be fun." Martin said.
The Megapnosaurus shrieked at them, but then suddenly a screaming bloodcurdling roar rings through the forest as the Syntarsus stiffen.
"What was that?" Aviva wondered.
The Megapnosaurus looked around as then another roar was heard close by.
Only 1 thing intimidates a predator: a bigger one.
The Syntarsus shrieked and then runs off, and then a much larger predatory dinosaur at 20 feet long arrived with dark green scales. And sports a pair of crests on it's head, and Chris and Martin knew there was only dinosaur with crests like that.
Dilophosaurus towers over its competitors, and its prey.
The Anchisaurus moves away from the Dilophosaurus and growls.
The Dilophosaurus then lets out a screaming bloodcurdling roar.
"Oh, boy." Martin said. "Dilophosaurus."
This is no ordinary predator.
The Dilophosaurus roars out and starts confronting the Anchisaurus, and the Kratt brothers thinking they were strange colored Anchisaurs.
Its a triple threat, it can slash, bite, and run.
"Oh, no, no, no, no, no." Martin said nervously. "You don't wanna eat us, big guy. We're very... uh, chewy."
The Anchisaurus growled as they were cornered, and the Dilophosaur roared. The Anchisaurus growled, and then the Dilophosaurus lunges and bites down on the Anchisaur's neck as Chris and Martin got out of the way. And the Dilophosaur slashed his 4-fingered claws at the Anchisaur's neck, and then the Dilophosaurus throws the Anchisaurus to the ground lifeless after snapping it's neck.
"Whoa!" Chris said. "Glad it wasn't us."
The Dilophosaurus then started to feed on the Anchisaurus as the brothers deactivated.
"Hey, isn't this the crested dinosaur from Jurassic Park?" Jimmy asked. "Where it's frill?"
"Actually, Dilophosaurus never had a frill like in Jurassic Park." Martin said. "And it's unlikely it spits venom as will. But this, is the real Dilophosaurus."
"Those crests on it's head is how it got it's name." Chris said. "Dilophosaurus in fact means, Double-Crested Lizard."
Then, a Dilophosaurus youngster suddenly appeared as the adult moves aside. Revealing that the Dilophosaurus is actually a mother.
A meal comes all too soon when there's a hungry mouth to feed.
"Whoa, a Dilophosaurus youngster." Chris said. "He looks like he's about 7 months old probably. Possibly a year old even."
"Amazing, paleontologist have long expected that dinosaurs showed parental care." Martin said.
"Aw." Aviva said adored.
The Dilophosaurus youngster soon starts feeding, but then the mother acts up as she growled.
But there's no time to relax when a stranger is sneaking around.
Then they saw a rival male Dilophosaurus arriving on the scene, attracted to the carcass.
"Uh-oh, a rival male!" Chris said.
"This is bad." Martin said. "Not only could he take the carcass for himself, but he might kill the youngster he if gets a chance."
The mother Dilophosaurus knows that very well, and won't tolerate his presence as she roars out.
She then confronts the male as they circle each other, and then they started snapping at each other. The 2 Dilophosaurs roared at each other, and then the mother bites the male on his snout. He soon pulls free as they roared at each other, and then the male lunges but the mother bites down on his neck. The mother lets go and the male runs off lucky to escape without having his throat torn out.
The mother Dilophosaurus roars out as the male retreated, and she growled as she turns back to the carcass.
The Wild Kratts watched as she made 1 last look behind her and heads to the carcass to feed.
The carcass of Anchisaurus is too large for 1 sitting. The dinosaurs will eat their fill, then they'll be back.
The mother Dilophosaurus and her offspring then head off.
At a dry section of mud, footprints left by a Dilophosaurus were still shown.
Prof PAUL OLSEN
Columbia University
"This is one of the most amazing slabs of footprints I've ever seen." Professor Paul said standing next to a fossil exhibit of dinosaur footprints. "The tracks are raised because it's the mud that filled the tracks rather than push down as it would be if they were the actual tracks, but more abundant on this slab are various different sizes of dinosaur footprints. Particularly Theropod dinosaur footprints. There are small individuals like this one here, you can see the 3 toes right there." He gestured to a footprint. "It was a carnivore you can see from they very sharp and large claws. This is about as large as Late Triassic dinosaur footprints get. Not all that much bigger than the palm of my hand. When we get over the Triassic-Jurassic boundary however, we see an immediate and abrupt increase in the maximum size of Theropod dinosaur tracks." He showed a footprint of a larger Theropod from the Early Jurassic. "We get up to the size of truly large carnivorous animals. There aren't many other kinds of footprints around. Gone are tracks of things like Desmatosuchus and in their place is an almost complete uniform assemblage of various sizes of Theropod dinosaur footprints. Basically large and small versions of this." He gestured to the footprint.
The sun shines through the lush rainforest of Early Jurassic Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania
200 Million Years Ago
Deep in the forest, the trio pack of Megapnosaurus went up to the Anchisaurus carcass left by the Dilophosaurus mother.
The rules of the forest are simple: kill or be killed, or steal.
Soon, the Megapnosaurus start feeding as they were busy, Chris and Martin hiding in the bushes stick their arms out and blindly feel around till eventually their fingers were brush by the tails of the small predators. And then a bright green and blue flash occurred in the blues.
And then Chris and Martin leaped out of the bushes in Syntarsus Power Suits after Aviva finished making Syntarsus Power Discs.
"Wow, I feel so light and fast." Chris said checking himself out.
"Yeah, and good thing that Aviva also made us Dilophosaurus Power Discs." Martin added holding out a green Dilophosaurus Power Disc that was recently made.
"Okay, now we just have to wait for one." Chris said.
Syntarsus may be a hunter, but it's also an opportunist.
Chris and Martin watched the pack as they feed, but they also know that a Dilophosaurus could show up at any minute to claim the carcass for itself. And the small Theropods continue feeding as one looks around incase they weren't alone.
Ironically, Dilophosaurus and Syntarsus are family. They're both Ceratosaurs, but you'd never know it.
Then suddenly a familiar screaming bloodcurdling roar echoes through the forest as the feeding Megapnosaurus froze. They turned and saw a Dilophosaurus charging towards them.
The Megapnosaurus shrieked and fled as the Dilophosaurus roars out, and the Syntarsus runs off into the forest as the Dilophosaurus roars out.
Chris and Martin poked their heads from the bushes watching the Dilophosaurus as it growled. They then brought out their Dilophosaurus Power Discs and inserted them into the slots, and slowly went up to the bigger dinosaur. They managed to touch it's tail and press the Activation Button, the Dilophosaurus growled noticing the flashes and turns and saw what he thought were the 2 strangest members of it's own kind in a different green color and blue one as well.
"Wow, I feel so tough with this claws." Chris said.
"Yeah, pretty cool." Martin said. "Right, buddy?"
But the Dilophosaurus growled and roared at them causing them to back away, as it was clear he wanted the carcass all to himself.
Dilophosaurus is still a primitive dinosaur.
The Dilophosaurus roared and started feeding on the carcass.
In the future, carnivores will have 3 fingers instead of 4. Their heads will grow larger, their bodies more massive, and the crests will disappear.
The Dilophosaurus rips a chunk of flesh from the carcass, then gnaws on it and swallows it whole.
The Dilophosaurus continues feeding on the carcass, and nearby 2 Anchisaurus watch lightly chittering.
The Dilophosaurus continues feeding as it scrapped it's foot claws on the carcass.
Dilophosaurus may be top dog for now, but when predators get bigger, so does the prey.
Soon, the Anchisaurus begin to head off into the forest.
The descendants of Anchisaurus have nowhere to go, but up.
Soon, the Tortuga retrieves the Kratt Brothers, and flies into a time warp.
Author's Note:
Sometime ago, Dilophosaurus was actually reclassified as a Dilophosaurid rather than a Ceratosaurid. And Syntarsus has been renamed to Megapnosaurus.
It might be possibly the range of Dilophosaurus, Megapnosaurus and Anchisaurus could've extended to Pennsylvania.
Next time, the Wild Kratts will meet the Giants of the Jurassic.
And last thing, of 4th of July, I've sadly found out that actor Samuel E. Wright who played famously known Sebastian and Kron has passed away at 74 on May 24.
